The roughly $80 Ergotech Freedom arm has been great for me. It has a wide range of load weight adjustment to accommodate light or heavier monitors, something most users will appreciate.
I have the Huanho dual monitor mount, costed me about 60-70 dollars and performs amazing, have had it for almost 2 years and nothing has gone wrong, totally recommend!
@Dan Apple's stand is different only in the sense that it is worse. It looks shiny but has the same range of movement that a lot of stands that come bundled with other monitors. Sure the screen itself is amazing. The Mac Pro is super powerful and is actually not overpriced when you consider the higher configurations. But the stand is just plain ridiculous. And even more laughable is the fact that the VESA mount point must be purchased separately for 300$ if you want to use another stand. I just don't understand how Apple can get away with this, this is the exact opposite of "premium", it's a cash grab ! FFS it's something you'd expect from a budget company like Xiaomi, not a deluxe one ! And just so you understand, companies have no problem paying for gear if it is actually useful (for instance the computer, the screen, the tablet, ...). The stand isn't even serviceable, how could it be worth it ? Seriously, you can get the more expansive stand reviewed on this video and their stupid VESA mount point for less than their own stand and it has a vastly greater range of movement as well as a slick look. Which makes me think that most company will not buy the stand but just the VESA mount since they probably already have perfectly functional and better stand around.

You will see the one in the video has a double joint at the hinging points where the 2 arms come together. This allows him to push his monitor all the back almost against the mounting pole. The one his link points to will not even come close to going back that far. I should know, Im not happy I now have a return I have to make because I ordered here. Pay attention to this when ordering if it is important you you.
Great reviews and food for thought when researching arms for ultra-wide monitors like yours. The stands that come with these monitors are horrid and take up half the desk workspace, another issue is that the monitors - being curved - are about 32cm (12.5 in) away from the wall in the middle and 41cm (16 in) from the extremities. Other heavy-duty mounts do not allow fluid motion especially the up and down panning of the display which comes really handy when using a motorised standing desk. The Ergotoron HX you suggest can now be found at £192 ($240) which is well worth it considering the 10-year warranty and the added workspace as well as allowing easy access to the rear of the screen when needed without having to call 2 other people to help hold the screen. Defo a no-brainer. Thanks!!
Having used a 24" monitor with a height, rotate and tilt stand, I've just bought a 27" Iiyama with a basic stand. I'm surprised how low it sits on the desk. Would suit the eye line of someone 5ft 6" maybe but at 6ft 2" needed a monitor arm. I went, through necessity, with a cheap £20 one from Amazon that had excellent reviews. Was heftier than I thought it would be for the price. The issue isn't with the arm but with the desk I'm using: a metal framed one of 25mm square tube, with a 15mm top. So it needed a little fettling with a strip of wood screwed to the frame to give me a decent surface for the screw base. But it works fine. The height is now perfect. I don't see how spending more would benefit me. Thanks for your review.
Depends on your needs. Some people do not buy such things at all during their life. If you constantly change position of your display as I do you need a good one which doesn't brake after thousand tilts or rotations.
That's because they are all the same. As long as the hardware is good quality you got nothing to worry about. The expensive ones prey on the dumb unintuitive people.
I've been using the VIVO arm for 2 years now. Was scared to have my monitor held up by such a cheap product, but it's been very reliable. Definitely recommended
I can really recommend Dell's own spring loaded MSA14 monitor arms for those who use Dell or Alienware monitors. Its relatively cheap by costing 130€ and it holds my Alienware AW3418DW curved gaming monitor very good. It also has internal cable management system which makes it super neat setup so no loose cables hanging around your desk. I also have Dell U2417HA as my second monitor in vertical position beside my main monitor and it also came with its own smaller monitor arm (you can also get it with a normal stand if you like) although its movement is a little limited because its one arm design versus the bigger two arms design. But one of the greatest features in of both those arms is that they do support Dells own quick connect system instead of vesa mounting. I believe you could do vesa also but these are tool less install and very quick and easy to do yourself. You just click them into the arms head and you are good to go no screws no tools super nice and sturdy way to mount your monitors. And like I said I am using Alienwares gaming monitor with my Dell arm because Alienware is own by Dell these days so they do share the same mounting system.
I want to thank you for the recommendation. I Ordered the vivo on a whim after watching your video not being confident that it would work. I was able to get it to work and I love it. Thanks again!
Something also worth mentioning with arms like this is that the price for the arm generally reflects the length of the warranty. The higher the cost the longer the warranty.

Considering the Ergotron apparently has a weight limit of up to 42lbs, it seems like a great choice if you have a very large and heavy display. If you're going to spend $500-$1200 on a display, an extra $300 for a solid monitor arm doesn't seem like a bad idea.
@@OGTH-camEnjoyer And my Ergotron is still going strong and can hold my 32" ultrawide in any position or orientation in an impressive range of motion without (a few feet in every direction) ever wobbling. Very nicely done video! One thing to point out is that if you have a motorized sit/stand desk, then you have to adjust the monitor height every time you change position, so it's worth spending more on a monitor arm that can be constantly repositioned. By the way, your 49" monitor is wider than my entire desk :D
Enjoyed this comparison video. Have been using the Amazon Basic Single Monitor Stand for both of my monitors for a couple years now. It's wonderful having 9.25 inches of clearance under my monitors to gain additional desk space for what ever I want. I searched hard for a premium option that was as good as the Amazon one but I couldn't find anything that raised the monitor as high. No regrets though even though I'd have gone for that $300 option. Some advise for perspective buyers of the "AmazonBasics Premium Single Monitor Stand"; my 28lbs monitor is close to pushing the maximum capacity since even a very light push downward lowers the monitor from the maximum height setting. It holds fine over time but just a little warning :).
I ordered a Best Stand, spec said it could do 25Lbs, It couldnt even hold up my 13 pound 27" display, and would drop down 70%. Sent it back., it cost $80 too. Hope this helps someone...
I got a free 144hz monitor from my brother's friend, but it came without a stand. Just went with the EVEO arm for $60. Holds my monitor's weight and latched it to the corner side, giving me more legroom on top of my table. Definitely recommend it for those trying to get something less than $100.
My wise counsel after years and years with monitor arms: always buy a wall mount. Of course that it is more work and effort, but in a long term it's a win-win.
@@SpecialEllio unlike the deskclamp the wallmount is more stable because it's directly screwed to the wall, but it's definitely not for those who want to use standing table or for those who want to change position of their desk setup every now and then though.
@@SpecialEllio they are much stronger as they are fixed to the wall; also, for example, if you touch or push the table with your hips accidentaly, the monitors or the tv's you have attached to the table arm support will eventually move and loose its horizontal position. I work as a day trader with 5 monitors, so you learn quickly those tips. :)
@@847MicRoss Obviously, if you move your desk frequently, then it is better to mount it in an arm desk. Look, my humble opinion based on years of experience is that if you have a desk and you don't move it around as the colleage above, and you are one of those who want perfection, or prefer to do things better despite the extra work, the wall mout is much more worth. My opinion.
I work in I.T at a hospital. those 300$ spring loaded stands need to be adjusted (retightened) every 6 months with heavy use, and tend to last about 3yrs 4 tops in our environment before you can no longer tighten them down again. Again that's with heavy use, hope this info helps in some way.
I work in a office where some of the employee have to have a mount to rotate 90 degree for portrait position. You didn't show that with any of your styles. You only gingerly rotated a small amount
if you're using your TV to use as a display for your PC a little hack is to buy a small desk to put the TV on using the stands then put your main desk infront of it.
I love the look of ultra wide displays, but I find that vertical displays tend to be better for productivity especially when it comes to things like coding, so rather than spending a lot on one heavy duty arm for an ultra wide display, a lot of people might find it better to spend the same amount on multiple cheaper arms for multiple displays of different orientations.
for the bottom tier monitor arm, I’d highly rec monoprice. I got mine for around $30 on sale and it’s got the full range of motion of more expensive ones
Big fan of Ergotron - have a lot of them at work and the ability to adjust the tension in the arms is HUGE. Just bought a new Ergotron for the wife's home office setup. Buy once, cry once. Totally worth the extra dollars.
Hey David! Thanks for the info on the different mounts. I’m actually considering getting the Amazon one with the wall mounts into the wall studs. This video helps a lot!
Great video! That Dell 49" monitor looks great, but it's vertical resolution is nearly half of what a 4k monitor has. It's horizontally equivalent to two 27" panels, but vertically equivalent to half of those same panels. For someone used to dual 27", 4k monitors it would be a significant downgrade. I'm stuck using a dual-monitor arm so I can get the resolution I need for day-to-day work, development, team integration in my visible apps. I still have to use virtual desktops to fit all of my apps in on a workspace larger than monitors can accommodate. Dual-mount arms still have a long way to go, to compete with some of the better single-monitor arms. I do wish the industry would manufacture arms that had an articulating _bottom_ arm, instead of fixed. It really does limit your flexibility in panel placement, especially when using a portrait orientation.
I personally use 2 single monitor arms for my double monitor setup. Had an okayish dual mount setup, but it was a challenge to get both monitors setup in a comfortable position for work, gaming and whatnot. Ive found that 2 separate arms make it alot easier positioning both monitors, as well as much more adjustable, aka moving one monitor doesnt mean I have to move the other to some strange position to accommodate it. Downside is of course having a second arm, might ruin the looks for some people.
I have a Dell MDS19 dual monitor stand at work and liked it so much I bought one for my home office. 150 USD was a bargain for me but took some hunting around to find at that price. I highly recommend it if you don’t need to move your monitors up and down.
This made me realize that I am probably going to set an arm once and never move it (a lot) again. Perhaps just an upward or downward tilt every now anx then. The basic mount I think will be enough for me
Bought a 55" wide gaming desk that includes a dual monitor stand that claims to support up to 32" monitors weighing 18 pounds. Don't have the desk yet should be here sometime within the next 2 weeks. I am well aware the top of the desk is made out of particle board. Might take the tip from this video and use a piece of wood under the desk when clamping on the dual monitor stand. But at least the desk includes a mousepad that covers the entire desk.
did he say? Its not unusual for the display setup to cost more than the pc now if you aren't a hard core gamer, its the gpu's that would put it over 1k, most don't need those even to drive a big display.
Incorrect on the Ergotron not being able to handle lighter monitors. You just need to calibrate the spring tensions in each of the two parts of the arm to match the weight of the monitor (by tightening/loosening the nuts/bolts). It states this in the user manual when you buy it.
Ooh! Glad I saw this. I was debating on whether to get a 38 ultra wide, for an arm, then I saw this. Now I'm going for that the 49inch and that Ergotron HX. Thanks for posting this, especially about the how the arms support the weights of the monitors.
I got my SUW on a $40 stand working just fine. I can't see me spending $300 for an arm but I've made dumber purchases before. Looks high quality though.
Cheap one is good for 99% of people. For most people only consideration is carry weight. You really only need those expensive arms if you are constantly adjusting the screen. Which really only happens for some niche cases or some specific professional settings. Well, there's one legit use for them that's pretty mainstream, if you switch between standing and sitting on motorized desk.

Darrell Bibby Are you from US or Canada? I’m from Canada and it’s about $54. Still considering it though.
i love this guys voice its so relaxing.
My wise counsel after years and years with monitor arms: always buy a wall mount. Of course that it is more work and effort, but in a long term it's a win-win.
why?
@@SpecialEllio unlike the deskclamp the wallmount is more stable because it's directly screwed to the wall, but it's definitely not for those who want to use standing table or for those who want to change position of their desk setup every now and then though.
@@SpecialEllio they are much stronger as they are fixed to the wall; also, for example, if you touch or push the table with your hips accidentaly, the monitors or the tv's you have attached to the table arm support will eventually move and loose its horizontal position. I work as a day trader with 5 monitors, so you learn quickly those tips. :)
@@M_S_M_86 I move my desk to much to mount it to the monitor to the wall.
Dude, this is how it's done- thank you
Thanks for the vid. I have a CRG9 and definitely don’t want an arm failing on me! It’s pretty heavy and the Ergotron looks fantastic! Think I’m sold!
Thank you for making this video I was having a hard time finding a arm for my monitor. Think I'll go with the $25 one
I work in a office where some of the employee have to have a mount to rotate 90 degree for portrait position. You didn't show that with any of your styles. You only gingerly rotated a small amount
"ZA WARUDO" is the best stand
Nah it's sticky fingaa

idk why but I find tech videos so satisfying
I want to know whats your desk ! The size seems just perfect !
This video is so helpful and well-organized. I love everything about it. Wish all instructions videos were like this .
I've been looking for a good monitor arm that will hold a 49 inch display, thanks for the video.
Ask your Local Electronic Market.
apple's 999$ stand
@@jab9618 you don't need to sell your soul for a monitor stand. every VESA Norm Stand is ok.
how about a gaming cockpit that will hold your 49 inch monster?
levus.co
@@rob7xiv they're joking
if you're using your TV to use as a display for your PC a little hack is to buy a small desk to put the TV on using the stands then put your main desk infront of it.
I love the look of ultra wide displays, but I find that vertical displays tend to be better for productivity especially when it comes to things like coding, so rather than spending a lot on one heavy duty arm for an ultra wide display, a lot of people might find it better to spend the same amount on multiple cheaper arms for multiple displays of different orientations.
well the thing is that you can split up ultrawides into two sections so it looks like you hve two monitors without a gap between them :
Brilliant video! Simple and straight to the point!
for the bottom tier monitor arm, I’d highly rec monoprice. I got mine for around $30 on sale and it’s got the full range of motion of more expensive ones
This right here folks. The piston ones they make are so smooth.
I just bought a ErGear Single Monitor Mount Stand for $26 and it had all the features of the $100 arm. its amazing
I recently bought the $25 one for $15 but I can also tilt my monitor
Do you remember what it's called?
Big fan of Ergotron - have a lot of them at work and the ability to adjust the tension in the arms is HUGE. Just bought a new Ergotron for the wife's home office setup. Buy once, cry once. Totally worth the extra dollars.
Loving the presonis eris speakers. Good choice!
I bought the Ergotron HX with the Heavy Duty Bracket for my Odyssey Neo G9. Absolutely worth the price. Nothing better out there.
Hey David! Thanks for the info on the different mounts. I’m actually considering getting the Amazon one with the wall mounts into the wall studs. This video helps a lot!
I VIVO double with 2 monitor holders. I find it helpful. it gives me more space on my desk.
Thanks for this. I've had a hard time finding a good monitor arm. Going with the Ergotron HX monitor arm.
Awesome arm, i have an HX dual at work and the ergotron LX dual direct at home for my gaming/work set up
I have the Ergotron HX for a Odyssey G9. I had to import it because they didn't sell it in Brazil. Worth every cent!
This guy is the type of guy to watch one set up wars video and rearrange their whole desk setup while also making money off it, amazing entrepreneur.
bought a Ergotron, which the Amazon Basic Arm copied from, back in 2010, still working flawlessly.
I know two people who also say "compacity" instead of "capacity."
complicity
He said it twice in the video!
It’s worth noting that 2/3 the arms in this video are ergotron. The Amazon basics arm is a rebadged ergotron LX
Apple: oh well ours has “special features”
This made me realize that I am probably going to set an arm once and never move it (a lot) again. Perhaps just an upward or downward tilt every now anx then. The basic mount I think will be enough for me
Hey man, thanks for the review, very interesting. How are those speakers, I was thinking about buying them, would love some insight on that. Cheers
But at least the desk includes a mousepad that covers the entire desk.
when monitor arm cost more than your arm.
Pain
I have to ask, where did you get your desk? I love it!
Looked through the comments but it doesn’t look like anyone’s asked yet.
Someone did ask just before you haha. I agree though nice desk. Probably very expensive.
16:9 used to be "wide"... those were the days
The Amazon basics one shown here is actually a rebranded ergotron lx sold at a discount. A very solid choice
"As long as you have the cash"
buddy, we're talking about a $1000+ monitor that is probably hooked on a $2500+ system
When a monitor Stand costs more than your setup 💀
Well, there's one legit use for them that's pretty mainstream, if you switch between standing and sitting on motorized desk.
that whit one costs way more than my both monitors combined too lol 🤣
Thank you David great reviews! I picked the Vivo one you suggested. Tod
david: i need widescreen
Dell: Yes
Hello, im just curious about how stable the $25 dollar arm is as i have heard from other people that cheaper monitor arms are usually wobbly / not stable
new aspect ratio: 1000000:10
That was helpful, I think for my setup the Ergotron is gonna be the one I go with
I don't even know why I watched this video, I only have a laptop lol
Then a laptop stand for your laptop
or an entire cockpit that holds your laptop

bruh imagine the amount of head turning you would have to do while using the 49" monitor...
