I had that one, had a horrible back light flicker but it was still a great experience, really down to luck to get a completely working product, and it’s $400 which is super low compared to other monitors with the same specs
Serious question for LTT: If I make a circle of these monitors, will my mouse cursor in Windows be able to go all the way around the circle without finding a border? I imagine someday this will be very important information for someone.
how about the compatibility with games? do you get serious issues with the widescreen support of certain games, like does it get ugly sometimes when a game doesn't support it well? would really appreciate if you could give me an honest answer, im considering to buy it in a few months.

@@maximus7288 I agree with the J.J. Disney comment... But that doesn't mean their would be no DS debris. There’s some misinformation in this video. The real reason why theatre screens are curved is to keep the distance to the projector lens consistent. If the screen was flat, the outer edges would be out of focus.
Yeah, in the case of curved monitors, it is so the distance from your eyes to the screen is consistent so your eyes aren't out of focus. On the previous version of this monitor, it isn't curved enough so my eyes have to change focus when looking at the outside edge vs the inside. It is annoying, tires your eyes, and makes it tougher to use than my previous dual monitor setup for that aspect. This doesn't totally fix that, as it seems like they didn't make an even curve, they just bent the middle more and kept the outside ~10" flat, but it might be better.
What I wanted to know that Linus did not seem to care about at all, what if you game in borderless mode, is the monitor capable of splitting the screen appropriately??

Would you like to try out a 360° gaming experience? I looked up the technical data on the data sheet. The curvature is 1000R. This means the radius of the monitor in millimeters from the middlepoint. With enough monitors you could make a circle for having the ultimate setup. Just how many monitors would you need? circumference= 2πr = 2π1000 =2000π = 6 283,1853071796mm ~ 6 283mm. this monitor is roughly 1191,936 mm wide (lenght). Let's divide: circumference/lenght = 6 283mm/1191,936mm =5,2712 pieces The remaining 0,2712*1191,936= 323,2530432mm = 3dm 23cm would be the gap between these monitors you've to adjust. 5 monitors placed near each other also means 5 gaps. To get the gap between each of the monitors just calculate: 323,2530432mm/5 = 64,65060864mm ~ (64mm-) 65mm So in theory you'll need 5 monitors and a gap of 65mm between each monitor to create a perfect circle with these monitors with a circumference of 10meters (or 1000mm a.k.a. 1000R). As of the time I'm writing this comment, the ammount needed for buying these 5 monitors (240Hz version) would be 1.788,62€*5 =8 943,10€ But if you do that, you'll end up having the perfect 360° gaming experience. So I'd like to ask if the Linus Media Group Team would give this a try. This would definitely be a mindblowing gaming experience - as far as I'm imagining. So please Linus - if possible, would you like to try this out? And no - I'm NOT the first one who has this idea. I've just done the technical calculations. You yourself have to judge if my calculations are right. Comment or like your thoughts about it. PS: This would be the perfect idea for the next video, so please consider it.Please Thank you Linus Media Group.
Yeah... I had a 55" Q950 for a week to try it out, and even though it has hundreds of zones, I had a lot of issues with the zones just being too obvious. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't where I thought a thing of that price should be.
@tim reeves And like any other OLED screen, you don't want to game on it because any HUD you have will quickly burn in to the screen. Also, any 4k tv has both more pixels which will cause you to have to get a better video card, or your video card won't be able to push the same FPS, AND a worse aspect ratio for a less immersive experience. And I say this from my CRG9.. The predecessor to the Odyssey G9.
@tim reeves getting a normal 16:9 displays overlooks the main selling point of a 32:9 display.. All that LG display is is a giant 16:9 monitor. People who buy 32:9 monitors are users who use dual monitor setups. and rather than have bezels down the center of the displays, you have a seamless experience with one of these superultrawide monitors. Unfortunately Linus didn't showcase any of the benefits or main reasons someone would use one of these displays in the video... also his choice of games was bad for this type of display... as MMORPGs, MOBAs, RTS, and especially Racing type games work best and offer better immersion for these types of displays.
@tim reeves no shit sherlock :P this monitor isn't made for competitive. it's made for multitasking and immersion. again you're completely missing the point of a super ultra wide monitor.
Someone needs to buy enough of these so they can trap themselves in, " a complete circle of gaming/entertainment", and then they can die happy! Who's w/me?
@Swift Rein Was literally going to say this. Though you do need more monitors to get more screen room with stock VR you can pretty much make a 1080p monitor feel like a 4k one even on the Quest, we already have a circle of gaming, and it's kinda bad ngl having to turn my neck so much is lame
Linus drops things so often, and there's so many comments about it, an AI would almost definitely pick up on Linus dropping things and integrate it into its program.
I totally agree, and the way the edge of that curved screen was teetering on the edge of that kitchen island was giving me anxiety. What the serious fuck? One minor nudge and the whole thing would have slipped off and shattered. What a wally.
@@bobbybaeX you can't buy one right now, they're discontinued and "not recalled" by samsung. apparently it has been too long between failed launches for them and they were feeling nostalgic.

A monitor that has 165 hz which is amazing already and it's more than enough , over that it's a bit dumb dont see the point of 240 . I have myself a 1440p 165 hz , not gonna look at my screen and see oh I need more fresh rate lol. Plus good luck getting something over 240 fps with that resolution especially vertical lol
7:40 Samsungs previous model the crg9 has the same resolution and is also vesa display HDR 1000 certified. The Odyssey just upps the refresh rate from 120hz to 240hz, tightens the curve and dropps the input latency from 4ms to 1ms.
@@gannonrosencrans5696 As a European you can get the crg9 for 999€. And With its resolution, refresh rate, HDR, Freesync etc. it's a pretty good deal in comparison to other 32:9 displays. In my opinion, it looks even better than the Odyssey, cause I'm not quite fond of that white color.
@@kenanfurcle786 You don't pay attention huh? If you took enough monitors to FORM A CIRCLE it would be 10 meters in radius. The R literally stands for Radius.
I've always loved these type of monitors for replacing multiple monitor setups. I can't see the use case for an fps gamer because one draw for super ultrawide monitors is the need to move your head, which most do not want to do. This is why you'll see many in the competitive scene talk about 23-25 inch main screens so you only need to move your eyes but not your head. The better showcase for this would be to setup split screen (3 inputs) with 16:9 in the center flanked by software running on the half screens to either side, a clean streaming setup.
u dont need to move ur head tho. u just get a side vision so any movement in the side vision knows that something is there. if normal monitor u dont even get side vision so cant see that movement
@@ModrunOfficial Most games have minimaps in the corner and even opposite corners which would require one to move their head to see in such a wide monitor

1000 mm you mean ?
There’s some misinformation in this video.
The real reason why theatre screens are curved is to keep the distance to the projector lens consistent. If the screen was flat, the outer edges would be out of focus.
That true since the new samosung onyx led cinema. Came flat.
isn't this also something in flat screen CRTs where the outer edges would be blurrier as a result of being flat?
Doesn't mean there can't be two reasons for the curvature

Just how many monitors would you need?
circumference= 2πr = 2π1000 =2000π = 6 283,1853071796mm ~ 6 283mm.
this monitor is roughly 1191,936 mm wide (lenght).
Let's divide: circumference/lenght = 6 283mm/1191,936mm =5,2712 pieces
The remaining 0,2712*1191,936= 323,2530432mm = 3dm 23cm would be the gap between these monitors you've to adjust.
5 monitors placed near each other also means 5 gaps.
To get the gap between each of the monitors just calculate: 323,2530432mm/5 = 64,65060864mm ~ (64mm-) 65mm
So in theory you'll need 5 monitors and a gap of 65mm between each monitor to create a perfect circle with these monitors with a circumference of 10meters (or 1000mm a.k.a. 1000R).
As of the time I'm writing this comment, the ammount needed for buying these 5 monitors (240Hz version) would be 1.788,62€*5 =8 943,10€
But if you do that, you'll end up having the perfect 360° gaming experience.

Well it is a WIDE screen
Someone needs to buy enough of these so they can trap themselves in, " a complete circle of gaming/entertainment", and then they can die happy!

was waiting for it to slip off the table, and then say "typical linus"
