  • Today we are testing and comparing 4 cameras: Sony F65, Sony FX9, Sony A7s III, and Panasonic S1H. In this video I will take you through the different stages of the Digital Imaging process to show the differences of each camera to see how the stack up from the manufacturer and ultimately see if they can match.
    Each of these cameras share very different price ranges, but is their image quality as different as their price tag?
    *It is recommended that you play along and see if you can identify the cameras featured in the video before the answers given at the end.

    As always, technology is ever evolving so it is important to identify if our urge to acquire certain gear is actually something that we actually need vs something that we just want.

    C & D took the cake for me

    I ended up at a toss up between B and D, so F65 or FX9. I think I know which one I can more easily afford lol
    Very helpful test.

      I also ended up with B or D. Especially the reflection on her forehead was the smoothest on D. Before the correction A looked very weird and C very cold and digital.

    c is better and is s1h, but is the camera that you have corrected badly uniforming it to bad sony colors..... in wrong direction so the much neutral pink skin tones become yellowish dark! Good test however

    The magenta cast of Panasonic spilled the bean.

    C is the clear winner. 2nd best skin, best hair, overal best grain jut not graded correctly or if its not touched, still pretty good. D had slightly better highlight detail in the skin but lost out in other areas. Also C actually retains colours and separates them better. Others look warm washed. The last set shows the highllight strengths of C and D and also the accurate hair colour of C. Also the last set you can see the almost exact look of human skin on C. Also I noticed C looks the least foggy and cleanest separation. D is also pretty good. Thank you for sharing. Fun test.

    Great Test! I think Panasonic's rec-709 is probably closer the actual colors in frame, which for me personally is what I'd want from a manufacturer's color science before deciding on a grade and look. But they all look equally great to me! I think sony's lut has a more cinematic feel to it.

    In C, the color and contrast of the woman's face is very successful. In D and B, the depth of field is very successful.

    Thanks for the test. It was pretty obvious once the LUT was applied (but before they were "corrected") that C was the S1H. Definitely cooler with a more magenta tint. After adding the LUT and the Color Correction, much harder to tell them apart. It would have been interesting if you had showed the shots in reverse order, meaning, starting the video off by showing the shots that have been graded first, then go to the shots that had the LUT applied but not graded, then go to the shots that were still in LOG and had yet to have the LUT applied.

    The F65 shot natively 8k raw file, or it shot a 4k raw file that can be upscaled with a specific Sony software ?

    Great test. Thanks. To me C looked like it had sharpening applied. Less organic. Thought it was the A7s iii before seeing what it actually was.... B looked best I found..

      Funny enough looking at it again I feel A is indeed a bit oversharpened too. B and also D looked best to my eye.. But now maybe I am influenced by knowing which camera is which :-).

      shutter? what do you mean? does F65 have a mechanical shutter? how do you perceive the difference in an image that has practically no movement?

    • @ricardobirnbaum
      @ricardobirnbaum 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@phrasalsyntax Check the practicals top frame left. You can see a weird flicker-banding when you look at it. F65 is the smoothest of the lot.

    • @phrasalsyntax
      @phrasalsyntax 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ricardobirnbaum very interesting, thanks for the reply. Indeed, F65 has the less flicker-bandin of all, though it still has some of it. Do you think there is a way to totally cancel it? Once you detect it is very distracting an unfilmic. For example, by changing the shutter speed in small fractions from whatever it was (24, 30) so it is out of synchrony with the practicals or whatever is the source of the flickering?

    • @ricardobirnbaum
      @ricardobirnbaum 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@phrasalsyntax Well, that is up to the gaffer and DP to figure out. It could be a defective bulb, a frequency issue, ground issue, shutter angle... I´ve had this from small LED lights that have a small screen on the back. The camera feels the flicker from the rear screen, not from the actual LED´s. Yes, it is very distracting in the pro-sumer cameras in the test. These little detais are what differentiates cameras and the experience you get when watching content on them. Other artifacts like rolling shutter on panning can add up to that effect and make the whole thing less enjoyable... if you know the limitations of your camera, work around them and shoot with those in mind. This test is a blind test. Not aiming to control those things.... and a very good test at showcasing each camera.

    And F65 shoot 16bit raw so log doesn’t matter

    • @phrasalsyntax
      @phrasalsyntax 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      As far as I know, in most cameras that record raw, 16-bit linear-raw (sensor acquisition data) is converted and recorded as 12-bit log-raw in camera.

  • @aLittlePal
    @aLittlePal ปีที่แล้ว

    The grading cannot be trusted and is very inconsistent, can’t you do a simple ACES/color space transform and make the testing consistent

  • @aLittlePal
    @aLittlePal ปีที่แล้ว

    All over the place, not consistent, not a very good camera body test
