This is the creator of the original video, and I just want to make one thing clear. I don't think Gohan should've ever been the main character. But the way Toriyama wrote him up until the Buu Saga was indicative of that being the case. Like I said Goku is the soul of Dragon Ball. I just think having Goku around caused the story to go in circles a bit. Great video, been a fan for a LONG TIME. *even LKIAB* P.S. Kid Buu is definitely one of the weakest Buus😂

Makes sense since goku avoided fighting Buuhan, and Gotenks lost to Super Buu and and they are stronger than Goku
@@TSO_Sage In the manga that could be argued but if we add in guide books there's a statement saying about it taking the combined efforts of Gohan, Gotenks and Goku to take down Kid Buu, so with that he's above all Buus but Buuhan.
In the anime it's clear cut that he's the strongest Buu.

Kid Buu is definitely weaker than Super Buu with no fusions. Goku explicity stated that even if he and Vegeta jumped Super Buu they'd have lost. Now you're right in saying Kid Buu is definitely the biggest threat out of all the Buus because he has no rhyme or reason.
Also, unpopular opinion, Buu Saga is actually my second favorite out of all the sagas lol.

You know why Gohan’s fatal flaw works? It’s cuz Laziness is highlighted in real life with many people. How many people do not work out how many people do not train how many people do not eat right how many people? Too many to count that’s how many. Go Han circling side that gets the better of his alien side. But knowing that it is about the individual so I’m not gonna blame to specifically on biology even though biology is a factor.
How many times did you have to learn certain lessons even though you knew better you kept on fucking up. Too many times to count. So even though this is a character this is not good for Gohan‘s character, realistically it shows a very vital lesson of importance. Once you know better it’s time for you to do better. Because despite popular belief everyone who knows better does not do better.
So many fans or Loki haters really high no haters try to make it seem as though Goku‘s flaws are just insurmountably bad. When really all the Z fighters around him have flaws that are far greater than Goku himself. Real talk. But again their love for these other characters blind into their character‘s weaknesses.

Kid buu is not even stronger than Super buu and any forms after that. Kid buu is the deadliest and most dangerous but definitely not the strongest.
I think the Buu Saga is a worthy capstone for the OG series, and despite its flaws, it comes together in the end to form something I would call good.
I thought it was too all over the place and went on longer than needed.
@justinarzola4584 It's chaotic nature was one of my favorite parts. There is no forumla here, no rules, they are fighting the epitome of chaos itself in Buu. Tropes and cliches are getting turned on their heads, and in all honesty the 'it's too long' arguement just has no teeth to me. That's just my opinion though.

Kid Buu should have been stronger for each person he absorbs (maybe getting weaker when fat Buu splits into evil and fat) I could easily use that to argue Kid Buu should be the weakest but most dangerous and unpredictable. Also Vegeta had to be saved against fat Buu by the kids but is able to stall kid Buu even though he shouldn’t be any stronger because no zenkai when you actually die and you can’t train your body in hell.
Just to be clear I think kid Buu is right around as strong as fat Buu I just never understood why people think he’s way weaker as fat Buu when he added a supreme Kai to himself. I think that made him more fun loving but not physically weaker.
Just wanna say real quick. Piccolo isn't connected to the dragon balls anymore. Dende is the one where if you kill him, you lose the dragon balls.
Additionally in super for some reason. They completely forget that the dragon balls has two wishes instead of one.

Buuhan > Buutenks > Super Buu > Evil Buu > Kid Buu > Fat Buu I think. One thing to consider though is that prior to losing his evil half, the original Fat Buu was likely stronger as well at the time, perhaps stronger than Kid Buu.

Correct, because remember when vegeta and goku exited buu’s head after rescuing the boys. Goku told vegeta we’re still no match for him that he’d kill them in an instant
With the point at the end about who should be the one to kill buu Goku can be there fighting but with how much time the whole “the younger generation needs to step up” plot line was given that the whole 2nd act of that arc was that idea for Gohan, Goten, and trunks to just not be there at all was a bit disappointing to me at least 🤷🏾♂️

buu gets stronger by absorbing particularly strong people correct? super buu < buutenks < buuhan.
so when you remove every person he absorbed, he gets weaker.
still comparable to fat buu, potentialy stronger since he was beating fat buu. (my personal theory is that the one kaioshin buu absorbed that turned him into fat buu not only changed his personality but doing so kinda lowered his power a bit. as in the guy was such a pacifist/nice person that it stops fat buu from going all out)
so, kid buu is weaker than most other versions of buu besides maybe fat buu. still strong as shit.
but he absolutely edges out on being unpredictable and just not stopping. other buus would gloat, talk smack. kid buu just keeps hitting you until you stop moving and then blows you up for good measure. maybe blows up the planet too.

I just started watching dragon Ball and I'm on episode 6 and I did not expect to love it this early. It's genuinely great but now I kind of want to go back and watch OG dragon Ball so I can get the full scope of the story. But it's shaping up to be really nice. And I'm expecting once I get to the buu saga I'm most likely going to say it's pretty overheated I don't know why I just have a feeling😂

As a kid this was my favorite arc, with the tournament, Vegeta vs Goku, Goku SSJ3, Gotenks and Gotenks SSJ3, Mystic Gohan pulling up saying, "Fight you? Nah, I wanna kill you." Vegito, etc. There are hella hype moments in it, but on rewatch it's clear why it gets such a bad wrap. A lot of it just feels unecessary, even if it leads to a cool moment here and there.
That line from Gohan is one of those moments when the dub was on par with the Japanese.
All those transformations (ssj3), buus different forms, and even fusion, We're all ass pulls to spike manga sells and anime ratings. This sage was facing full on DB fatigue.

We still never got an explanation on why the kais need fusion and gotenks just pulling out ssj3 out of their ass.Also ofcourse buu transformations are out of nowhere but the villain is the plot.
@@Takerutomy most of them were tho. Yhe buu saga (2nd half) was the worst rated, with the least manga sells. The saga (2nd half) with the transformation had lowest viewership of Z. What's funny is people in the west hate the Great Saiyaman arc. Remember toonami made Z peak when we saw it, the show ended 5/6 yrs prior in Japan.
@@CreamPieSundays Idk what an asspull is to you but other than i said earlier other transformations had enough explanation to be there. Ssj3 literally after goku are dead and finally had time to interact with other powerful fighters and with a body with no stamina. Goku learned instant transmission from another race so him learning about fusion in heaven is plausible. I am not saying the buu saga is amazing or something. Its not my favourite either and some are asspulls like i already stated. And it being worst rated really not what i care just about you calling things asspull. All the villains in dragonball z have transformations but its a problem when its buu.
I disagree with your point that gohan making the overconfidence mistake again. If it was a mistake that just hurt him or someone else but didn’t kill them then I’d understand making the mistake again but when your mistake meant that your younger brother has never met his dad before as well as not seeing your dad for around 7 years isn’t a mistake you’d make again
it’s a major mistake but consider exactly what said mistake is. it’s literally an issue of overconfidence, he’s convinced he has things under control. to Gohan he’s NOT making it again in the moment , it’s damn hard to realize you’re overconfident until things around the situation change, example being allowing Buutenks.
now where we agree 100% is when EVERY Gohan plot line is “he’s out of shape and can’t defend his fam”. Happening 3 additional times after this either , as a grown man… no arguments that’s just nasty.
If Goku and Vegeta always just fused frame one, they would dunk on the entire team from the half court line. Put all 5 on the rim and make a league rule to allow goal tending specifically against Vegito/Gogeta and league still getting ran.

What I remember as a kid, seeing the Vegeta sacrifice episode, Gohan's dead, Goku is beaten and they kept saying things about him returning to afterworld like every few minutes, I deadass lost interest because I was like "there's nobody left. 😢" Lol I forget what age I was but it made me stop watching them instead of interested in where they went from there.
The problem is that they intended to go into a different direction, but they had to revert to planet busting battles due to backlash.
"Main Character Gohan" was a real thing, he wanted to stop with the planet threatening enemies after Cell.
Buu saga is my favorite. I didn't know people hate it until years later.

I think the ending of the Buu Saga is fantastic, I think the ending off it is my favourite in fact. The Dragonballs play a big role in ending the series just as they did starting it. Buu being taken down with the Spirit Bomb, a technique that's all about unity and connections. Humanity being given a way to fight back against their villain in Majin Buu. And lastly Goku wishing for Buu reincarnating as a good guy finally caps off the question from the first arc; what would Goku wish for
Plus Super Buu was just boring, he lost what made Buu special and just became another Freeza or Cell.

When I got into DBZ as a kid, the Buu saga was definitely my favorite! I loved SSJ3, the fusions and Kid Buu (and still do). I rewatched all of Z finally about five years ago, and I was able to see the flaws. Frieza Saga is my favorite now, but Buu saga will always hold a special place in my heart
To me gohan was the mc. has the tragic past and the glow up z literally starts and finishes on his character. It went from is this goku jr, to this is definitely goku jr, to this can’t be goku jr, to maybe he matured into goku jr, to let’s move on to uub

Gohan wouldnt have had to train every single day to maintain his power. Goten was getting trained up by Chichi and he scooped up SSJ. He was sparring and playing with Trunks on the side.
Gohan, after becoming the strongest person on Earth and being left the reins by his father to protect everyone... did nothing for 7 years. He didn't even attempt to train. Didn't spar with or train up Goten or Trunks, didn't hit up Vegeta every once in a while for a scrap.
Nothing.
That's unbelievable to me in my head. Ain't no way this man focused on studying so much that he forgets to throw a punch for 7 years.

Buu saga had alot of great moments but alot of confusing fuking moments to like they just tried to cram everything in.
I think that after gohan's defeat by regular majinbuu and getting his power up from the elder kai he should have learned just how big of a threat this was and after coming back and realizing that his mom and girlfriend and so many other people are dead and gone, He should have let that take over him and just you know really go all in and there should have been like a montage or something towards the end of that fight where it shows gohan running away as a kid it shows gohan being beaten by the ginyu force and frieza, Gohan struggling against cell and seeing his dad die again in that fight.
All these events finally come together to inspire the greatest Kamehameha of Gohan's career.
Then let him stay somewhat consistent in his free time, bit still be a family man. Best of both worlds imo.

They could’ve easily done the gohan beat buu as mystic gohan.
Him not learn the lesson of power amongst friends, believe he has to do it all himself because his dad is dead, vegeta either dead or brought back ti life. Gohan actually trains so hard that he sees minimal progress because he overtrains and doesn’t let his body recover due to the mental stress he puts on himself.
A whole new arc where he has to learn that lesson is written where gohan, trunks and goten are fully trusted as the main a warriors now.
You have interactions written in where they all learn lessons from gokus past rivals and friends. (Tien, Trillin, even roshi and Yamcha).
After the next arc gohan understands what it takes to be the MC. And he’s not just Goku jr. He’s fully learned to control all his emotions and he’s more well rounded. Teaching he younger guys to be a prepared but also balance their lives.
That took me 8 minutes to think of. And I think it would’ve worked.

For me it's a weird spot. Buu Saga is the one I was actually able to remember because I was old enough to when it was on TV, but the previous ones? Those I had to backtrack years later to get the full picture and while I've since changed my opinion, I can't quite feel that the Buu saga is that bad even now.
i think buu saga falls flat in almost every aspect, where as in before transformations were rare and were there to be the point of inflection of a characters story arc in the buu saga that goes out the window, the beginning is good, actually better than the beginning to the saiyan or namek saga but when you get to gotenks (cool concept and good character) for him to lose then to gohan for him to lose it all seems pointless (to the viewer) we know what’s gonna happen we know the z fighters are gonna win, so it really feels like it’s just extending itself for no reason, but what made the arc the worst imo is super saiyan 3, more exactly how it’s utilized, never before, NEVER before did dragon ball show us a transformation just to buy time, it’s literally a soulless cash grab for toys, what people hate super for that’s what ssj 3 feels like in the buu saga
Buu arc is probably not the best in terms of quality of writing but it's definitely my favourite. Goku is unhinged this arc.
You know I am abit on both sides about the buu ark at first it was good but like in the middle it just feels like these were ideas that didn't want to be wasted yet I mean like if Vegeta killed buu and it was a good enough ending we don't see fusion except maybe the first appearance of Ssj blue Vegeta on the Goku black ark or the first Ssj3 and this is it's end game of Z before Super so Ssj3 will hardly appear at all unless some other villain pushes him to the break of it. Don't get me wrong it would be better that way but at the same time we couldn't get these other cool characters for the fun of it. At this case I'm just lost 🤔😅
Hot take, Gohan should've learned his lesson potentially during either the Ressurection F Saga or The Goku Black Saga when he pops into our timeline with goku, gohan so on and so forth around to see. Both Frieza and Goku Black shouldve been MASSIVE wake-up calls for Gohan that if he want to protect the people he loves, he needs to get stronger.
Buu saga had a lot of cool things in it but in rewatch it’s really just spinning it’s wheels for 70% of it.

This is why I think you Americans don't get a lot of things in anime. You just overanalyze everything and want every single bad decision in your favorite series to make sense because you're fanboying too much.

One thing I absolutely hate about dragon ball fans is them being so hard of the idea of something that they forgot about other possiblities of something.
Like I seen so many people seeing the passing of the torch and teaching younger generation side of dragon ball z but process to absolutely ignore any other meaning that can come from it.
Like one thing I like to interpret is buu saga showing consequences of trying to force the future of a generation like they literally have to have two children learn the fusion dance to have a chance. Even giving gohan a whole experience of power only to not do much. And that is where biggest problem actually shows up for me is what happens with gohan and the rest. Like I personally am fine with gohan being cocky, in the situation I can believe he has control especially as it’s not like they fully understand what fucken absorbing actual does, hell i don’t remember if gohan even seen the absorbing like how piccolo got got. Around that point I think it would have been better if it was tag team of gohan and gotenks holding back or being even with buu which could bring in goku having one vs three which this stronger buu uses his chaotic nature making more mini blobs, sneaky unnatural tactics which lead goten infusing because time limit goten and or trunks getting absorbed then and the two having to retreat. Like honestly it could have been handled better showing gohan and gotenks not pushovers, showing buu more of a threat then he already is and showing strength of franchise is team work. But that whole point got ridiculous with just gohan being extremely strong but Oop gotenks got absorbed now so strong it’s not even fair, then he absorbs gohan so is so strong it’s not even fair, then Oop vegito is born and so strong even in base form it’s not even fair. Like I hate absolute hate where power just seems to never be even, it kills mood bit where any power up just so exponentially bigger that it’s not even fair to get a single hit. Just I love lot of the buu saga. I love buu as a concept I just wish they made him more Eldridge creeping with more unnatural abilities because having the mega tyrant of frieza, to cold collected yet comprehending killer bug to unnatural unknowable being of chaos who died because he simply is, is just so awesome. I would have been fine if they just went full confidence and made it Great Sayaman's story. I'd respect the shit out of that.
The great sayiaman arc is my favourite arc of the Buu saga and nobody can change my mind. Dragon Ball is at it's best when it is not trying too hard. Dragon Ball started as a gag manga and operates finally as a comedy. The 27th Tenkaichi Budokai arc of the Buu saga is also good, it was a nice slice of life and coming together of the characters after a timeskip. It was cool seeing everyone together. The punching bag scene, Gohan teaching Videl to fly, Gohan's character dynamics with Videl and their mutual respective developments, Goten vs Trunks, there's so many good moments in the early portion of the Buu saga.
I also do not think Gohan should be the main character despite being my favourite character. He is too much of a reactionary character. He lacks the activity that Goku possesses. Personally I would have preferred no specific, singular protagonist, an equal split of Goku, Vegeta and Gohan would have been the best for me. Have all bases covered. And as mentioned in the video, the theme of teamwork is too great throughout the duration of the series, for me to suggest a singular protagonist is the best.
That tangent about kid buu was goofy. He said "arguably" the weakest and super buu is meant to be this potential unlocked variant of majin buu in general. No kai's, no brain and no mood dampener makes kid buu about the second weakest but the most dangerous.

I think that Gohan taking the W against Super Buu would've been kinda anti-climatic. As much as i think he should've gotten the job done (mostly off the strength of him fumbling in the Cell Arc cause idgaf about "human nature" ain't no way i'm fumbling in the same way that got my pops sent to otherworld) but i think he should've been put in a position where he needed help from whoever else was alive. It would still give us the chance for Goku to realistically come back to life and for Vegeta to accept his place as definitive number 3 when he comes back.

Let’s be realistic then. Gohan truly should’ve been the MC after the Cell games. They had the perfect set-up for him to take the reins and become the Main Character we deserved, but then they gave him a major character regression. It’s true that he was 11 back then so he might not have learned his lesson about arrogance, but I’m pretty sure that your arrogance causing your dad to sacrifice himself for you is enough of a lesson. Honestly, they only stopped letting Gohan train so that he couldn’t take his rightful spot as the MC, because if he did then there would be no need for Goku. In the span of one movie he gained a form that put him on par with True Ultra Instinct Goku. Keep in mind that Goku left the fate of the world to the Future generations at the end of the Cell Saga, and the Boujack Movie. He wouldn’t do that if he didn’t have faith that Gohan could handle all the issues that were going on. Don’t get me wrong, I like the Buu arc and a lot of the stuff that it did, but I personally believe that Gohan could’ve been the MC, if they actually let him keep his character progression. Plus, I’d like to point out that the writers wrote Gohan’s character like this after Cell, and they just kept repeating this character arc of, get lazy/complacent, people he love get hurt, unlock new transformation, relearn the strength he needs to protect the ones he loves. They keep doing this to him because they don’t know how to write him anymore. Plus you can argue they messed up a lot of characters progression during the Cell arc.
Absolutely agree! When the Cell saga ended you still had free reign to write Gohan with main character potential. The Bojack and 2nd Broly movie were movies that showed that. The issue is that Toriyama just can’t move away from Goku

Gohan hates fighting and violence in general, it's just not something he wants to do or is interested in. The reason why Gohan's SSJ2 transformation is so good is because it's sad.
Toriyama himself stated he felt Gohan wasn't fit to be the main character.
The biggest reason for this is probably that Gohan would be extremely reactive, he would never seek things out and be proactive and if you changed Gohan's character to be more proactive then he'd just be Goku.

Buu saga is peak DB. SS3, Gotenks, Vegito, amazing animation, majin Vegeta, final atonement, human extinction attack, ultimate Gohan, planetary spirit bomb. It is the best arc, hands down.

In my opinion, the buu saga is very over hated. Not to say it doesn't have its problems or cases of bad writing, because it definitely does in some places. But I think everyone gets caught up in the whole "gohan should have been the main character" thing and since it didn't happen thats what makes people hate it the most. To me, the buu saga is my favorite saga not because of the story (that definitely goes to the cell saga), but because of the action and the big moments in the arc and even some of the characters get to shine the most in this arc. Vegeta's sacrifice was amazing, Gotenks was really fun to watch whenever he was on screen(best fusion don't @ me), piccolo's whole joke being how he was once the demon king and is now a glorified babysitter, Ssj3 is one of if not my favorite transformation sequences and forms in general, Gohan vs super buu was fun to watch (it still hurt though seeing buu getting clapped like that), and everything that kid buu did was peak. I may be one of if not the only fan of everything majin buu, especially kid buu. He's my favorite character in any source of fiction just because of how chaotic he is. So you could say that i have a bit of bias here due to that, but I digress. I love the buu saga flaws and all, and I'm just getting tired in defending it all the time because it's as you said, when a big group of people hate something it causes more people to stand it harder (or something along those lines😅).
Fat Buu, Super Buu, and Kid Buu seem to be close in power. The three of them can compete with, but don't exceed SSJ3. Once Super Buu starts absorbing people, he puts himself on a whole new level. Buuhan was clearly the strongest version of the character, having the power of both Super Buu and Gohan added together.
Kid Buu is definitely above Fat Buu and Super Buu. Goku literally brings up the idea of bringing Gohan and the others there, but Vegeta dismisses it in favor of the Spirit Bomb. That tells me right there that Kid buu is arguably the strongest or that there was a serious change in powerscaling once kid buu got introduced
I think that most people have a problem with Goku killing Kid Buu, is because it is the start of the whole "Let Goku handel this situation." With Battle of Gods I actually think it should have been Vegeta becoming a Super Sayian God first, because he has a history with Beerus. Same as with Resurrection F, it should have been Vegeta who finally killed Freeza for very obvious reasons. I do actually agree (after thinking on it) that the U6 Arc should have been the introduction of SSJB, with Goku taking the win against Hit. The Goku Black Arc, Goku should have taken the win against Fused Zamasu for reasons that should be obvious. Tournament of Power, I actually agree with how it ended... well with how Goku and Freeza took out Jiren, not with Whis reviving Freeza on the behest of Beerus. Cause now we have Black Freeza. Thanks Beerus you not only took a page from Super Goku's book, no you wrote a god damned sequel to it.
Honestly, I think the decision of Goku and Vegeta trying to pass down the torch to the new generation was made too early. Sure they could still have mentor roles but it seems like they (or Goku at least) is just ready to die and let Gohan and the others do the work from there even tho they aren’t ready fr. I just feel like the focus should’ve stayed on Goku (and vegeta ig) and it would’ve made for a better more controlled story. And then end of z could’ve been the time where they actually felt like they could pass down the role of “protector” to Gohan, Goten, and Trunks. Obviously there would have to be some changes with Goten and Trunks for sure from what we saw at the end of Z but it would’ve made more sense. And Goten and trunks really don’t have to change all that much to be the characters you need for the story to go on how I just suggested

Gohan should have been written better as the MC but at the same time Goku could have very well shared that role as a co-protagonist IMO
I think lowkey it would have been better if Goku himself already understood the lesson of strength coming from others which is why he had so much trust in Gohan to carry the torch to lead the next generation by the end of the cell arc
Instead Gohan learning strength can from others and he can't solo squad swoop in to save the day like a stereotypical superhero would have worked. Have Goku mentor Gohan and be vital in story but just in a less invasive way that allows Gohan to progress as a character and learn to hold his own weight.
My biggest issue with DB is the tournaments were trash from cell onwards because they were half heartedly written and not really finished. I didn't watch super but I know it had a trash ending
I understand people wanting Gohan to be the main character and kinda agree but I also know the importance of Goku killing buu and being the main character. I think Gohan should've been a co - main character like how Vegeta is a co - main character. Like it shouldn't just be the Goku and Vegeta show, it should be the Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan show.
It’s to hard to change a main character. Because goku well established in the series, obviously fans want to see him. You can make side series without the main characters. But once your well established with series and know what the main character is about. It’s hard to change that and it has been proven it will never be as popular as the previous serious.
I even think if they ended it on the freeza saga, that was a great way to end it with goku dying and becoming the legendary super saiyen. But cell saga and buu saga, had both intakes on how to end a series

the buu ark had a unique feel to it, of goku & vegeta being the strongest in the universe and that the villain had to rise to the challenge, and they knew it thats why they messed around, why vegeta could fight goku.
Vegeta would have beat buu if not for the regeneration (with out blowing him self up)

Buu had to absorb others to fight after gohan and gotenks got their quick power boosts.
The only reason buu was a threat was because his regeneration, stamina & absorption.
I personally liked the Buu arc up until they gave Gohan another cocky attitude moment because while i get its his Saiyan side showing. If he sees the universe is in peril again then why would he start acting this way. I also really just hated Gotenks. Like Goten witnessing his mom die and gohan supposedly die and Trunks finding out both his parents are dead and that NOT be the motivating factor that makes them wise up and actually finish off Buu was just so weird to me. Like the story didnt really need a gag character in that moment

Gohan's personality is the reason why he shouldn't be a main character in DBZ. He's not a fighter in an anime where fighting is purposely the whole point in an anime that was originally about Goku loving to fight before Goku's character development
