Sasuke Retrieval fasho. Tbh, Idgaf bout Choji or Kiba but I cared deeply about Choji's "final moments". And Sasuke leaving genuinely messed me up cause he was always my favorite. Bro he was the reason I started practicing hand signs and trying to do the Chidori. First jutsu hand signs I learned was Fireball Jutsu after watching Sasuke do it against Kakashi. Sasuke's betrayal was probably my first time watching something where I felt that nothing would ever be the same. I was confronted with that feeling and didn't know how to process it. Maybe it's just me, but I credit this arc as the reason why so many top Shonen shows nowadays always seem to have that one standout arc that changes the series forever. For better or for worse, Naruto as a franchise changed after this arc.
Kishimoto's biggest mistake with this series has nothing to do with Kaguya or making him a reincarnation... It was not making that dope ass Sage cloak a permanent part of his outfit... 😮💨
I think Shippuden had higher highs and more interesting characters than Naruto but also Lower lows.. a Really what makes me like Shippuden more is the full circle storytelling and the pacing is much better… I do wish that characters introduced more moves and Jutsu to the series because in Naruto each character’s fighting style felt much more unique.

Chunin exam will always be my favorite. Begins perfectly from a world building perspective introducing us to the other leaf ninjas and the other villages, creating an immediate sense of danger for the main characters. Then the written exams is one of the coolest things they did in the series highlighting that it’s not going to be all punch fighting (even though it is). Then the forest of death has so many important plot points for the series while also pumping the tension up to 11 with Gaara and Orochimaru. Prelims fights Gaara vs rock lee enough said. Then the mini training arc with Jiraiya is the perfect way to slow down story and give the audience a break while also introducing one of the best characters in the series and naruto learning the summoning jutsu. Then while naruto vs neji was a little disappointing. Gaara killing thoses two thugs before fighting sasuke was probably the most terrifying moment in the series. And then to wrap the arc up a full blown war breaks out the third hokage a character I thought was invincible at the time dies, we get the reveal of 1st and 2nd hokage and naruto defeats Gaara and shines in a way that I don’t think is replicated since pain.

If I had to pick my favorite arc, it was hunting down Hidan and Kazuku. That was a great character development arc for Shikamaru, and it's when Naruto learns better use of shadow clones with his training!
List like this are why I don't put too much stock into "top whatever" lists. There isn't a crazy gap in quality between any of these arcs but folks will argue you down over 1 or 2 spots like there's a huge difference.
The Chunin Exams arc put Naruto in the spotlight, and propelled it as one of the best anime at the time, but the Pain Arc also gives us some development from Naruto, and made the viewers see the black and white of the Naruto World. So idk which one is the best. But I think it’s between these 2
Out of all the SRA fights, I literally almost cried or did cry when I thought Choji and Neii died after they pulled out the power to win. With Kiba, I was just like “…… damn that’s crazy 🫤.” Even calling back to how the Sand only helped out in the Konoha Crush arc because the didn’t know Orochimaru was the Kazekage the whole time so they were just following what they thought were orders. Kiba is literally the only weak link in that arc Edit: Aside from Ash constantly losing in the pokemon league every year, I feel like Naruto vs Sasuke was the first time an anime felt comfortable having the MC actually lose. Look at where we are now in anime and it’s more common for the MC to actually lose a big, important story fight
5 Kage Summit was sick, you got Obito telling the truth about Itachi to Kakashi and Naruto, Sasuke fucking up Samurai fodder, Sasuke vs the Kage and Danzo, Naruto confronting Sasuke
5 kage summit is my favorite arc its so hype from start to finish sasuke as a villain is amazing the 5 kage r all cool and the declaration of the 4 great ninja war is so cool i love this arc
7:13 on first watch i thought sai was itachi or some typa genjustu ngl.i think it was because how sasori mind controlled a sand village higher up in the kasekjage rescue arc and thought it was cool and connected it to itachi being most know for genjustu . i watched around covid and going off of his hype some ppl compared him to "madera" and all i was really spoiled was edo madara appearance and part of naruto and sasukes last fight.
I'm just watching through now and stumbled over this. The war arc is crazy. Like they had the same people fight the same people and they had the same finishes. They had the same backstory and flashbacks. It's actually crazy. I skipped probably at least 5 episodes because you started knowing what's going to happen.

A con I have for retrieval is that non of these genin were truly hurt… I get the lessons and becoming of man moments in all the characters but I would’ve rather seen kiba lose than the sand village have to save them… shikamaru and temari made sense because they continued a relationship and clearly gaara and lee were necessary but Kiba and kankuro never conversed before or after this

Shippuden is overhated, I have no problem with this video, but generally I feel people forget hella top tier moments within arcs in shippuden and criticize the same problems and present OG naruto as if it were perfect. I love both and I personally like shippuden a lil better but I wasn't watching naruto way back in the day so that can play a part in why it's so loved. Difference in opinion is okay, and so is constructive criticism.
I will say the very last arc that wraps up Shippuden is top tier for me after everything that happened. All those moments before that were better in many ways, but to see everyone just living their life in relative peace and have relationships and live was great. Call that peace filled arc filler if you want, but it’s what that’s what everyone was fighting for.
Agree part 1 is my favorite. It feels more planned, consistent, and grounded. Part 2 gets kinda crazy. Still like it but they raised the stakes and power levels for the enemies like crazy while leaving damn near everyone, aside from Naruto and Sasuke, at the same strength of part 1. Makes all the characters i grew to love be completely irrelevant babies waiting for Naruto to pull up
The chunin exam was not planned kishimoto original plan is to have more arc like visiting each other village and introducing each other team but the editor forced him to cut down and that probably the reason why the side characters do nothing because they didn't allow kishimoto to aid more arc
