Thanks for your comparison Lewin! It may be the way it comes over in the recording, but the MTM’s sounded a bit boxy, while the micros sounded more focused & forward.

This is the first time I've seen the two models next to one another, and I'm surprised by the major size difference. As much bigger as the MTMs are, they are still compact enough to take with you if you needed some good monitors somewhere away from your usual studio.

DoomedDawn just got back from returning them , the calibration works but then makes the speakers sound like a laptop speaker out of phase and just bad but if you switch back to the factory setting it sounds amazing , I read people have returned 6 before they found one that works I tried 2 today and gave up same problem

I think the stereo affects were noticeably different from monitor to monitor because the MTM seem to be pointed too outwards, giving it a really different stereo distance. Obviously it's hard to compare over a mic and headphones.
I am not good at English, so I ask with a translator. I'm using a mm and I'm wondering what the difference is. Is there a lot of difference in resolution between executive and treble, as well as bass, stereo imaging? The price difference with mm is more than three times the price in Korea where I live. Do you think the mtm will compete with the five-inch entry speakers of Genelec, Adam, Eve, focal, Jbl, etc.?

...no, as they are individually powered and not connected to each other (as the Micro Monitors / MM were, where the left speaker was the master and the right the slave). So with these MTMs there's no annoying external power-brick and no awkward custom fixed-length connecting cable between them.
Great review. I already have one Avantone MixCube and no big monitors. Would the iLoud MGM and one Avantone MixCube be a better combination than the iLoud Micro Monitors and one Avanton MixCube ?
I compare your recording test and noticed that (my impression) the differences in bad for the iMicro seem the same ones then corrected with my iK Arc. So, watt and low difference apart, taking in account the price of the integrated Arc alone, the price isn't so much. But I already have Arc and I don't thing it would be a good idea to buy Mtm . The manual of Arc is not clear how to use correctctly trim pre/post and volume monitot. An Arc review would be very appreciate ☺ (Mtm's Arc vst interface and functiois are the same of the only Arc alone ? Grazie
? why ? the microphone is probably $20 (or less) to make, just throw it in the bin if you don't want it (you don't need to use it, the speakers can be used uncalibrated).

Good work, but in your sound comparison why weren't the speakers all angled at the same sweet-spot - the mics? (also where the camera was). I'd forgive a couple of degrees out, but that looked way out!
Thats a GREAT question. The reason I chose to do it this way is because it's tough to record "super near field" and "near field" monitors in one shot like this with stereo mics.. So I decided to just go for a standard flat setup. In general this is TERRIBLE way to demo monitors at all, through a TH-cam video, but I did want to just give you all something to hear so you could at least get an idea of the sound difference.
That is not too surprising... a lot of monitors sound better than those, and an 8" woofer will never match the clarity of 3.5" or 4" woofers. Even a lot of 5" woofers sound noticeably more muddy due to wobble, not withstanding differences due to varying manufacturing quality.
Very interesting test, wich gear (preamp, mic or smartphone/camera) have you used to record the audio ? I have iLoud Micro, close to the wall behind and with a foaming panel on the wall itself, mounted on stands to have the correct heights to the ear level, calibrated level with full range pink noise and phonometer and the y sound really great in my bedroom prosumer studio, testing the low end and details with headphones too. Mtm type haven't the anterior bass reflex port, so more problematic if put close to the wall than iMicro moedel... If i would buy another couple of monitors probably I would buy Kali Lp6 (6" woofer), much cheaper than mtm (one thirth of cost..), to use together with my micro. I also have Arc 2 still to try at the moment..
In this video I was using 2 Lewitt LCT 140's going directly into a Focusrite Saffire PRO24 DSP. If I were you I would start trying to tune my room. Room acoustics are extremely important and bass traps are the place to start. Real bass traps will make a world of difference. NOT the cheap ones from amazon. You might want to watch the video I did with White Sea Studios, we talk about it a lot.

One important thing worth mentioning would have been any self-protection circuitry those speakers come with - like nasty pops from turning off the mixer before the speakers and such. They are not cheaper than a pair of Genelec 8020... It could certainly be, that they sound better. and Genelec's measuring kit is an extra charge. Technically, 4x 3.5" woofers should easily beat 2x 3.5" or 4" woofers if the quality of the engineering matches. And I guess the tweeter from the smaller iLouds have proven that they are pretty good.
Sorry I'm a bit of a newbie, but are these active monitors? Do they have an on-board AMP/DAC? If so, how would I connect them to a PC if I want to use the inbuilt AMP/DAC in the speakers? In other words, how would I feed a digital signal from a PC into the monitors. On the specs on the website it states that the 1 x USB type-B is service use only, so I assume you cannot just hook them up to a PC via the USB input. Thanks :)

I just use the speakers more for the end results but I noticed that my mix never really sound as good as other djs who post their mixes on sound cloud.. I always feel my mix could sound better.

Believe it or not I'll be replacing my LS50W Nocturne from KEF with these to save a TON of space. I wish it had a sub port for a small servo sub or the like but they sound like they may not need it!
On a whim I put my iLouds in my living room and holy crap … they sound awesome. I am currently using KEF LS 50W so … out they go and in with iLouds. I’m using a 8”sub as well but I’m not married to keeping it. Saves a lot of space in my living room as well.
I have acquired the MTM. The truth is that they show a clarity that surpasses that of my Adam F7. The only downside that I see them is that at serious frequencies at a volume not too high they generate a rattle at the rear air outlet. I looked for information on the subject since it seemed strange that it affected the two units that I bought equally and seems to be something very common in these monitors. Have you experienced it too? Thank you.
@@GaragebandandBeyond I actually demoed the iLoud MTMs since posting the question and I would have to respectfully disagree. To each his own, however I thought the Kali's had a bit more full range. The iLoud MTMs sounded good for their size but overall I like to Kali audio a little better.
@@WCG72 The Kali's just sound like "high's and lows" to me. Not much mid-info and the stereo image on the MTM's is better. I'm pretty sure I just repeated myself!! ahahahahahaha. This is such a subjective topic, there really is no "right or wrong" it's what you like that matters!
The main reasons I would only buy them used is, I don't want two microphones, from which I would need only one and plobably not very often. I mean, is it a good mic for singing, or drums, or guitar amps? no. it's useless crap cluttering up my limited warehouse space lol Technically, these monitors are great.
No you're not. You might have phase issue. The MTM have enough bass response but you need some time to learn them. Use the BX8 as a second reference and you're mixes will be much better.
So. The microphone used for the video does not transfer the sound of the MTM bass. Although, if there is a greater presence of bass in each turn of the BX8, hence my reaction.
iLoud micro: €259. M-audio BX8: €280. iLoud MTM: €820. Fair comparison? How about comparing them with Adam 5X, KRK v6 S4, Yamaha HS7 plus sub, Monkey banana baboon 6 or Dynaudio BM5 mk3?
There is nothing to compare with.. The other speakers are much much bigger, the only small speaker in the similar.. The comparison with the much cheaper micro monitors make sense because many own them and want to know if they should upgrade.. People who buy your named speakers usually ignore these super small speakers..
GaragebandandBeyond it just sounded like total shit Phasey and like laptop speakers but normal mode worked fine it was just calibration mode , my best guess is the mics included are shitty and causing the problem

micros sound better newer ones have more bass , but less highs trust me , i feel any change in bass people are better of buying a good headphone with some good bass and stciking there money in a ''subpac'' bought myself a subpac m2x , never taking this thing off again ! i think a month before i bought a set of GX gaming 2.1 2000 speakers with a descent woofer , haven't used them since i got this subpac you can feel the bass in someones voice and a lot of songs i used to listen too have bass and other sounds in them that you now can feel through this thing ... watching movies is a real treat and multi-player gaming is easier cause you instantly feel enemies , footsteps have A LOT of bass , never even knew that really , yes you can ''hear'' footsteps in your headphones , but to feel them instantly is just a whole other experience ... ( and explosions and just shots from enemies , man ... ) music just kills me , the amount of vibration this subpac can give you when you set it right , unbelievable really , it's like standing or sitting on a subwoofer , vibrations from your lower back to your ears , your eyes are shaking and you can Really enjoy the music you're listening too ... just do NOT turn this thing all the way up or it WILL hurt you ! gotta find the balance between volume and bass , once that's done , you're golden ... seriously recommended equipment ! this thing is no joke !!! costs a large penny , but at least with this thing , you'll KNOW you have something substantial in your hands , better then all the other junk that people make , FOR SURE !!!
What you hear from the Micros are crisp highs and nothing else but I can hear the clear mids and nicely defined bass in addition to the crisp highs from the MTMs.
All the speakers should have been aimed at the centre of the mic array, what ever that was-you don't specify-since speakers are designed to be listened to on-axis and the off-axis tone is not representative of the design intention. With the current positioning, the M-Audio BX8 D2 were clearly sounding muffled and uninformative in the mids; hopelessly out-classed even by the iloud micros, for use as a mixing tool. The micros are much more linear and truthful in the mids than any other speaker of which I am aware at that price point. Remarkable, actually. If the MTMs are clearly better at this, and it appears they are, then they are worth saving for if good results are important to you-even if you were planning to spend only $300 on speakers. Save the $400 needed to up your game and save the time you would have wasted making mixes that don't translate.
yeah its you..... there is a MASSIVE difference in imaging and of course another MASSIVE difference in bass. If you cant hear that, then you should seriously consider why you cant cuz its not even an argument, Its a fact. Either you need to go to the doctor or you need to get a new hobby
There is absolutely no need for political correctness, digitally calibrated speakers do not sound better, they sound right. Flat frequency curve is correct way to listen, mix, and produce music. I do not care about anyone's opinion, I do not care about my opinion as well, I care only about facts. Anyone can do whatever he or she wants, but there is absolutely no comparison in reproduction quality when it comes to calibrated and uncalibrated monitors.
NS10 are not speakers used for mixing as no one had only NS10 in their studio, but those were 3rd or 4th set used for balance, reverbs, overall image and for reviewing how the mix will sound on a TV or some average audio gear everyone has. I personally like NS10 sound, long ago I used them for tracking in some studio where they were installed next to some Genelecs I did not learned as you say, so I ended up with some asinine tracks made in that studio because I was listening to NS10 which I really like, but then when I checked the same material back home I started to see my mistake. They lied to me so much as it was the sound I like so I believed everything was good while it was not. Not everyone likes flat frequency curve and that is OK, if you find it too clinical and nasal you can address this very easily, however there is a difference in broad frequency shifts and sharp, tooth-like bands and notches that appear in your room because of the phase nulls and other acoustic problems, there is nothing you should learn or get used to as it is not possible. I have micro monitors as kitchen speakers. Ie non nearfield and not for pro use. They are fantastic. Better than Audioengine a2 they replaced.

Believe it or not I'll be replacing my LS50W Nocturne from KEF with these to save a TON of space. I wish it had a sub port for a small servo sub or the like but they sound like they may not need it!

On a whim I put my iLouds in my living room and holy crap … they sound awesome. I am currently using KEF LS 50W so … out they go and in with iLouds. I’m using a 8”sub as well but I’m not married to keeping it. Saves a lot of space in my living room as well.

I have acquired the MTM. The truth is that they show a clarity that surpasses that of my Adam F7. The only downside that I see them is that at serious frequencies at a volume not too high they generate a rattle at the rear air outlet. I looked for information on the subject since it seemed strange that it affected the two units that I bought equally and seems to be something very common in these monitors. @@GaragebandandBeyond I actually demoed the iLoud MTMs since posting the question and I would have to respectfully disagree. To each his own, however I thought the Kali's had a bit more full range. The iLoud MTMs sounded good for their size but overall I like to Kali audio a little better.

The main reasons I would only buy them used is, I don't want two microphones, from which I would need only one and plobably not very often. I mean, is it a good mic for singing, or drums, or guitar amps? no. it's useless crap cluttering up my limited warehouse space lol

The MTM's do not need a sub and in fact I would say that adding one would be a bad idea, since they were never designed to run with a sub.
No you're not. You might have phase issue. The MTM have enough bass response but you need some time to learn them. Use the BX8 as a second reference and you're mixes will be much better.
So. The microphone used for the video does not transfer the sound of the MTM bass. Although, if there is a greater presence of bass in each turn of the BX8, hence my reaction.

There is nothing to compare with.. The other speakers are much much bigger, the only small speaker in the similar.. The comparison with the much cheaper micro monitors make sense because many own them and want to know if they should upgrade.. People who buy your named speakers usually ignore these super small speakers..

you can feel the bass in someones voice and a lot of songs i used to listen too have bass and other sounds in them that you now can feel through this thing ...
watching movies is a real treat and multi-player gaming is easier cause you instantly feel enemies , footsteps have A LOT of bass , never even knew that really ,
yes you can ''hear'' footsteps in your headphones , but to feel them instantly is just a whole other experience ... ( and explosions and just shots from enemies , man ... )
music just kills me , the amount of vibration this subpac can give you when you set it right , unbelievable really , it's like standing or sitting on a subwoofer ,
vibrations from your lower back to your ears , your eyes are shaking and you can Really enjoy the music you're listening too ...
just do NOT turn this thing all the way up or it WILL hurt you ! gotta find the balance between volume and bass , once that's done , you're golden ...

What you hear from the Micros are crisp highs and nothing else but I can hear the clear mids and nicely defined bass in addition to the crisp highs from the MTMs.

All the speakers should have been aimed at the centre of the mic array, what ever that was-you don't specify-since speakers are designed to be listened to on-axis and the off-axis tone is not representative of the design intention.
With the current positioning, the M-Audio BX8 D2 were clearly sounding muffled and uninformative in the mids; hopelessly out-classed even by the iloud micros, for use as a mixing tool. The micros are much more linear and truthful in the mids than any other speaker of which I am aware at that price point. Remarkable, actually.
If the MTMs are clearly better at this, and it appears they are, then they are worth saving for if good results are important to you-even if you were planning to spend only $300 on speakers. Save the $400 needed to up your game and save the time you would have wasted making mixes that don't translate.

yeah its you..... there is a MASSIVE difference in imaging and of course another MASSIVE difference in bass. If you cant hear that, then you should seriously consider why you cant cuz its not even an argument, Its a fact. Either you need to go to the doctor or you need to get a new hobby
Any better music ? This kind is inappropriate to evaluate a "studio monitor". Probably MTM is better in tonality balance AND DISPERSION (as MTM)

There is absolutely no need for political correctness, digitally calibrated speakers do not sound better, they sound right. Flat frequency curve is correct way to listen, mix, and produce music. I do not care about anyone's opinion, I do not care about my opinion as well, I care only about facts.

I personally like NS10 sound, long ago I used them for tracking in some studio where they were installed next to some Genelecs I did not learned as you say, so I ended up with some asinine tracks made in that studio because I was listening to NS10 which I really like, but then when I checked the same material back home I started to see my mistake. They lied to me so much as it was the sound I like so I believed everything was good while it was not.
Not everyone likes flat frequency curve and that is OK, if you find it too clinical and nasal you can address this very easily, however there is a difference in broad frequency shifts and sharp, tooth-like bands and notches that appear in your room because of the phase nulls and other acoustic problems, there is nothing you should learn or get used to as it is not possible.

Flat or near flat frequency curve gives you precision needed for mixing. Your point about how the listener consume music is irrelevant as those are two totally different aspects of music.
