    Thanx Lewin!!! Love your reviews! I bought a pair of the IK Multimedia micro monitors awhile back based off of your review of them and I love them, since my studio where I record is completely untreated and serves double duty as my bedroom 😑. They have improved my mixing skills immensely... thanx again for all your contributions in the GarageBand/home studio area. Love your Music Monday songs too!

    Thanks for the review very informative Im going to get me a pair. The 2 small problems you have are because of your mic stand mount. Great idea but with the tall, thin & lightweight stand the speakers are really top heavy.

    The calibration is mandatory, you are exactly correct. Out of the box the bass wasn’t stellar. Once I did the calibration, the difference was huge. Ow it’s like I have a sub under the desk. I had the Micros, these are better in the mids.

  • @NotFound-ll5kc
    @NotFound-ll5kc 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I bought a pair of these in June of 2021 and have enjoyed them immensely every day since then. Absolutely no regrets. Beautiful imaging. Smooth highs. Accurate mids. Proportionate low end (don't expect bone-rattling bass).
    I moved recently into a smaller apartment, and I had a smaller desk with no surface area for speakers. Thankfully the threaded mounting holes allowed to mount the MTMs on (slightly modified) VESA monitor stands. Now the speakers are up over my head behind my monitor pointing down. Looks awesome. Still sounds great.
    If they're in your budget and they meet your needs on paper then I recommend you give them a listen.

    I use a set of Fostex 841 after placing the 641's in the living room....I can not live without my 3-way monitors anymore, most 2-ways do sounds like they have a hole where the mids should sit.
    The MTM's are on my list for the laptop system for sure!

    Very true about the 8" monitors lacking midrange detail. The M-Audio BX5s are a much better choice for budget small studios but I still love my Tapco S8s, they make the entire building shake!

    Yes, magic is in the mid range, as some famous engineer said. Thanks so much.Have the bx8 d3, and bought the micro thanks to you, and when I a/b on the monitor station one can hear the mid range difference, much more clear in the micros, and mixes translate better just using the ilouds, but I still check the low end on the sub which I bought.And it's true, the magic is in the mid range and the ilouds prove that.

    2:16 Oh my! I was just considering purchasing either iLoud MTMs or M-Audio BX8s. It looks like I may have come to the right place for an advice. Would you still recommend iLoud over BX8 taking into consideration that they are more expensive? Some sources say BX8s are not very good quality speakers. Are they really not that good compared to iLouds? I am still tempted by the lower price.
    Btw, I have BX5s at the moment but I really feel it's time for an upgrade.

    • @GaragebandandBeyond
      @GaragebandandBeyond  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest I would say the MTM's are better sounding speakers all around. ESPECIALLY if you're trying to mix in an untreated space. The BX8's (which have now been replaced, check out my newer videos) are decent, but the MTM's are better.
      People LOVE saying that the M-Audio gear isn't good. It's good, not great, but I used mine for many years and was able to make some really good mixes on them.... but then I got the MTM's and I could hear my music more clearly.

    About the monitor wobbling. Could it be that you need to screw the plain dented ring up so it touches the monitor and keeps it steady? I'm pretty sure is just that... most people don't know that that rings are ment to stabilize whatever is put in misc stands

    • @GaragebandandBeyond

      @@GaragebandandBeyond Gotcha. Take one of the stands to your local hardware store, find a nut that matches the thread pitch, a washer, and a rubber washer, x2 each. Then you can make exactly what I described. The rubber washer will protect your speakers, the washer with apply more distributed pressure, and the nut will be what tightens the speake to your stand and eliminate flop. GaragebandandBeyond Absolutely you can hook a sub up to these, you get something like a KRK 8s, Yamaha HS8S, etc., and just run your audio interface into the sub .. .. and the subs out to each MTM in. You don’t need it for mixing absolutely .. but as a musician (keys) for 40 years now I need the inspiration of a sub for playing, composing, jamming, tracking, etc., then for mixing the sub’s (and I have several) are usually turned off. Also I have no problem mixing on my Yamaha HS8’s compared to my HS50’s .. or Mackie PBM 6.5’s .. or IK’s. The 8’s sound great in my un-treated room along with the KRK 10S sub that they are hooked too .. and provide a lot of inspiration for sitting down and playing .. and coming up with song ideas.
