The country's service industry is going towards slavery - there is a disparity of pay - people work overtime for no incentive, one section does not work and others do their share of the labor, companies are saving money on oversees deputation but setting people up on night shifts - industrialists are making money and squandering money. There are more people less jobs - under such circumstances you can only imagine the pressure one takes.

A few months ago, Info Mur from Bangaluru urged techies to work 17 hours a day, sparking significant backlash on social media. Recently, he suggested that parents spend at least three hours a day with their children. Following his advice, techies would have just four hours left for sleep and household chores. It's surprising that such statements aren't more rigorously challenged, as they warrant serious scrutiny. How can he issue such statements? Shame indeed!!
Why is May 1st a holiday? To me, it marks the day in 1886, the workers movement demanded for the eight-hour workday. Since then that work culture has been widely adopted in many countries. Unfortunately, the eight-hour shift is rarely practised in our country. Nurses have gone on strike without success, railway loco pilots often face extended shifts that have led to accidents, and police officers rarely get an eight-hour schedule. These are just a few examples of the ongoing issues.
Anita`s attempt should at least question whether we celebrate May 1st anymore?.

99% of the Indian IT companies have toxic work culture, they are treating employees as slaves, but with a positive wording and unreachable & unending targets. To avoid job loss, employees are stretching till late nights & weekends also. IT companies wont give sick leaves also properly due to billing loss in dollars from the client, they simply ask to postpone your sick leave to weekend :)
HR team in IT company & Government & Labour Ministry are sleeping since decades in India, Govt is there just to grab income taxes which is unethical.
in USA, beyond 8 hours of work on weekdays, 1.5x salary is paid for every hour,
and for weekend work, they pay 2x per hour,
forget about money, we are humans first of all, work culture is very important, it's very bad to die before 50s even in 21st century.
in case of job loss, why govt is not paying unemployment benefits ?
why govt is not paying atleast health insurance ?
why IT companies have understaffing issue since ages, instead of giving high salary, they can recruit 2x employees at half the salary, isn't it ? It's a simple common sense. why CEOs are sleeping in IT companies ? Wouldn't they feel bad if their son/daughter dies ?

Companies dont care. HR does not care for employees. They care for employers interests only.
    The only solution is
    1. Build buffers so you can go a few months without an income while you upskill / look for another job.
    2. Dont take on debt like home loan etc, esp early in your career. Once your employer knows you desperately need a salary to pay off EMI's every month, they will automatically start taking advantage of you.
    3. Always look at upskilling and increasing your value to other potential employers so that you can switch easily. Dont get complacent and stop learning new stuff.
    4. Look at setting up second sources of income at the individual or family level - it could be your wife working, it could be a side hobby on weekends that brings in some money etc.
The most important of all is money management and learning to save and invest. Most indians have no idea about these things and it is in the govt as well as employers interest that the common man does not learn these things.

Why do an employee has to think about his work even after coming back home? Why do mgmt call even on weekends? Employers paying for say 5 days a week work. Employee will go in do his job the best he can come back relax have a good time on weekends n go back to work on Monday. Why cant we have this structure in place? I thought this happens in Kolkata only but now I see this is a disease. Profit making at all cost disease. A toxic culture that is in place. I remember attending an interview of 5 6 rounds. When 6th round came top managers interviewed me. Salary was some 15 k. They directly told me out time is 7 but everybody stays upto 9. Entry 9 am. 6 days a week. I am sure they would bug on Sunday as well. Problem is govt has created this whole situation of sheer unemployment that even a drop of money feels like wow. We have become China ladies n gentleman where youth will kill themselves so that these politicians can enjoy the fruits. No andolan on this.

  • @Seeker1344

All these companies allow their employees to charge 9 hours only, but they bill client actual hours in dollars. This is bound to happen. I have seen managers asking employees to complete 20 hour work on a friday, and then say I dont want you to work on weekends. They know very well that employee will be compelled to work on weekend, but they dont want to give a comp off.
And about these politicians, they are the ones who brought these big companies to metros, claiming that it will give employment to locals. But then locals just lost their land, and jobs were given to migrants like us. Politicians earned in SEZ deals, they own all the land near SEZ for restaurants, flats etc, they earn even when policeman takes bribe. Locals hate us migrants thinking that we are the problem. We are also suffering because we cant live with our family, our parents are lonely, we cant save much due to flat emi's or high rent. After all this if we are able to survive, then there are people like Varun Agrawal whose so called juvenilles will kill us in road ACCIDENTS.

India & China have the obsession to work like anything, as there are no laws for non Public-sector employees for well-being of employees
Government are only to tap taxes of middle-class people, but have no laws to protect the Pvt sector employees. Also, when they are laid-off, they have no guarantee for Job-security.
The pay-scale in India is quite low to Western-countries, so instead of making 1 employee work for 18 hours a day, hire 2 people to work 9 hours a day - why so much of obsession with Profitablity?
