For me the larger screen, the sapphire crystal, the titanium case, the battery life, were worth the $300 more, period. I never bought an Apple watch until the series 7 because I always felt they were too small as I have larger wrist, and even when I got the AW7 45mm, it still seemed small to me. Not to mention I usually wore the AW7 to the gym, etc, but took it off as soon as I got home. The Ultra I find myself wearing from morning when I get up until night again. Its expensive yes, does it make me money, no, but its not really about that for every single thing regardless of price. I have no remorse for getting the Ultra.

I really wanted the ultra, but when I tried it on my baby wrist it was so damn large my sleeves didn’t even fit around it. For a guy or for someone with larger wrist then me it would be perfect. Went for the series 8 instead.

Love his energy. Convinced me to buy the Ultra. Great review. I wasn’t sure if display was bigger, but it certainly does look bigger and I tried it on and I must say it’s a very nice looking watch. I have a series 7 45 MM. The screen certainly does look bigger on the ultra.

  • @michaelcheshareck3275

I’m in my first couple days with my Ultra. I’m used to a Tudor Pelagos as my daily watch, which is a beefy titanium watch, so the Ultra doesn’t seem too big at all to me. The big screen is really nice, the battery life is great, and the action button is nice to short cut right to the workout program I want. The Series 8 could track my workouts just as well, but to me it is worth the upgrade cost to get the screen, battery life, and durability. The stainless series 8 with the sapphire screen cost only $50 less than the ultra, so that makes it a no brainer to go Ultra. It isn’t cheap, but I’ve spent a hell of a lot more money for my Tudor and Omega Seamaster Pro. Like you said though those watches will hold their value while then Ultra won’t. I just look at the Ultra as $799 in sunk costs for 2-3 years of good use as my health tracking watch that is fully integrated with my phone and laptop, and to me it is worth the money so far.

    • @atl3630

    • @Max_Dillin
      @Max_Dillin ปีที่แล้ว +1

So Omega/Tudor most of the time and ultra for when you want to track something? Just wondering how you balance them out?

    • @michaelcheshareck3275
      @michaelcheshareck3275 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@Max_Dillin I frankly have been mostly wearing my Ultra. But if I’m just going out to dinner or not doing anything too active I wear the Tudor or Omega. I wore the Omega last night to a friend’s birthday party. Having a smartwatch is really convenient since it blends with my phone perfectly, but I’ve always liked mechanical watches and I like their look better. Even though those mechanicals are very accurate they suck at telling time compared to a smartwatch, so the looks and appreciation for the mechanics of them is what they are about.

Love your view. The key issue here is about Utility (the satisfaction you derive from using a product). This is the most important reward that matters in any purchase and this is the fundamental focus of Apple. User satisfaction. If it adds value to your daily wake and measures your sleep sessions…I bet it is over delivering already (taking into account the extended battery life and functional screen with 2000nits). I got mine the week it launched and have been having a ball since then. 👍🏽

Here in Brazil it costs R$ 10.300 (R$ stands for “Real”, which is the currency in Brazil), that’s US$ 1.980. This hefty price is due to extreme government taxes, something already normal for us.

I bought a Series 5, way back when it came out, but didn’t even consider upgrading to a Series 6, 7, etc. I have been waiting for Apple to sort of “change the game” a bit, and it looks like it might be time for me to make the switch to the Ultra. Thanks for helping me make the decision easier! 😎

I am okay with the way the Ultra looks, but I purchased it using practical reasoning: I can wear it while I’m doing labor, working out, swimming, sleeping, etc., ad infinitum. I can charge it during a break. So it looks alright and it offers a lot of features and battery life. Appreciate your video and glad I discovered you! Subscribed.

I just ordered the Ultra on the Apple Store website and trading in my 7 with cell. I only got $155 for the 7 and can't believe the depreciation! I struggled with the price for the same reasons you mention, but in the end after listening to so many reviewers saying the screen real estate is worth it and the battery seals the deal, I went for it. Bro I love ur enthusiasm and honesty. This vid was well done. For me this was my first watch ever so it was easy to make this decision. Now with the 14 pro max (128gb) I’m having some remorse but I came from the 13 pro max. The only reason I won’t return the 14 is because T-Mobile gave me 1k credit for it. Personally if the watch makes u as happy as u say it should be a no brainer to keep it. Also apple has given me lil reason believe they are bringing an ultra next year simply because this one has to do extremely well and most of the higher end accessories like air pod pros take a couple years to encore.

Finally someone who’s doing an Ultra Watch review that speaks my taste and opinion of this watch and other Apple watches. I’ve always hated the way the normal Apple watches have looked on my wrist - and therefore I have never owned one. When this watch came out I was like FINALLY!! I went to the Apple store a few weeks ago, tried on a series 8 back to back with the Ultra and it was an instant must/no-brainer. I have larger hands and wrists and my girlfriend loves the way the Ultra looks on me. I ordered one that day but have to wait for it to arrive because they were completely sold out - can’t wait to start using it. I’m glad Apple finally made something that is different and more rugged, with more battery life and a bigger screen. Thx for the review - and pls keep the great videos coming 🙌

Good review and consideration of price. I tried the Ultra and determined it was way too big. I have larger than normal wrist size. The functional size of screen is no larger than the Series 7 I proceeded to buy. (Walmart had the 45mm GPS / Cellular version for $379)
Also, the edges around screen are rather sharp! Bottom line, one should not be constantly aware of the watch one is wearing.

    • @robhughes8516

Lol, the “functional” size of the screen is much more than the series 7! Not sure what watch you were looking at but it wasn’t an ultra. If you can’t afford one then dont buy one, no need to come and spread false info because of your financial situation.

Just watched this review. Pretty good review and points made. I would say, as far as cost go, sell your series 7 to off set the cost of what you paid for the Ultra. To me it’s an investment and a tool of choice that is based on personal preference. If you sell your 7, it’s like getting a 2 to 3 hundred dollar (depending on how much you can get) discount on a highly superior model.

FYI - Verizon does give a discount on the new Apple Ultra. I needed a new iphone. Upgraded to 14pro from 13pro (face ID not working). With purchase of new phone and watch, Verizon gave me $150 off the purchase of Apple Ultra Watch and $800 trade in on the phone. So, the price thing doesn't hurt as much when you get a decent discount. Also, should state that this will be my first apple watch. The previous apple watches were not rugged enough for my life style and would have been destroyed to easily. So, not hurting on loss of money from previous watch purchases either.

The major selling point is that the Ultra costs the same as a Stainless Steel 45 mm with Milanese loop. It is also $50 cheaper than the Series 5,6, and 7 titanium case Apple Watch but it comes with way brighter screen, better microphones, larger display, stronger build and most importantly, longer battery life. This is a major major update since the Apple Watch Series 4.

As someone whose wrist is waaaayy too small for the Ultra anyway, and I do agree on some of your points, I have to disagree, respectfully. I have the Apple Watch Series 7, Space Black Titanium Edition. Don’t need to worry about messaging. I like my curved screen, sleekness over that flat, clunky look and it’s got similar durability. I need my Apple Watch for medical use, so the new battery would be great, but I can charge to full in the morning while getting ready for work and in the evening while preparing for bedtime. As to making a statement? I have the Stainless Steel Link Bracelet in both Silver and Black. I have Leather Links and Milanese Loops that make a definite statement. Worst comes to worst, I also have made my own couture statement bands. The price is worth it to help protect my life. I mourn the discontinuation of the Titanium Edition.

I wouldn’t buy the regular Apple Watch just because of the display. I like a sapphire screen. They don’t offer that however, I love the flat display on the ultra and for me it’s a different look tired of the same old Apple Watch design I’m not rock, climbing, jumping off a mountain cliffs. You have to first understand the tech companies’ business model. It’s a business to… make money. They will ALWAYS slow drip new features onto every new release in order to maximize sales, profit and overall brand longevity. Therefore consumers will ALWAYS be behind the curve in regards to having the latest technology & features. Tech companies want it to be this way. It ensures one thing…..
CONTINUAL SALES, year after year. So keeping this in mind, we will always be anticipating new models and new features every few months; meaning we can only expect to have the absolute best for a short period of time until the next model is released. This applies to all electronics as well as many other consumer products. As consumers we are forced to surrender to this and accept it for what it is.

Depending on how you're going to use it, an Ultra may not add enough value over a series 7 or 8. I came from a series 4 and the Ultra with the WorkOutdoor app is easily worth the cost of the upgrade. The watch definitely has a masculine look and different colors will likely be welcomed by many. I count that Apple will move away from the square display though - the benefits of a square screen for text information display is just too great.
As for the price, it is a lot. However, comparing it to other sport watches, like the Garmin Epix, it is a good deal and you can finance the cost through Apple or your cell carrier with no interest.

I keep hearing people say the Ultra is $$$ more and is it worth it and it wasn’t connecting to me until I watched this video.
    It’s coming from the aluminum!!!!
I’m the person that’s always bought the ceramic or stainless so the Ultra price seemed like a steal.
If you wear it for a full 365 days that $300 difference breaks down to about .82cent per day. Do you feel you get .82 cent worth of added value per day? That could be in electricity savings with less charging. Time savings using the shortcut button. Avoiding a ticket because you can use the watch for something while driving instead of using your phone. The connections you can build with people because you’re quicker to text or respond to text now because you can do it from your watch. Just personal joy of enjoying the look and feel. Is any of this worth .82¢ per day?
Can you make $300 worth of Apple Watch Ultra YT content?

You literally hit every point about the watch that I had. Every single point! I am keeping it. Trust me, you’re keeping yours too. I hear ya. I am enjoying the ultra so much that I don’t wear my other watches that cost 15 times more. I am using it with the strong app for workouts at the gym. My workouts actually improve because they are more focused now. I love the screen and the battery life. The styling is also nice and sets it apart in a dramatic way from the run of the mill Apple Watch. You have to remember the watch is made with premium materials and quality. The ceramic bottom, titanium case and sapphire crystal lens is not cheap. Plus the improved capabilities from GPS to cellular communication the screen brightness make it worth the price. Glad you like it.

It sounds like you should have buyers remorse for your Series 7, not the Ultra! If you don’t even want to put it on anymore that shows that it was a bad purchase. The chips in the Apple Watch haven’t changed since the Series 6, so I don’t see any significant changes happening in the near future with them. Even if the next Ultra has a slightly faster chip, that doesn’t make this one obsolete. I’m surprised to hear you haven’t scratched your Series 7 in aluminum. I scratched my Apple Watch Series 0 the first day I got it helping a friend move and I have only purchased the stainless steel since then and I haven’t looked back. This offers significantly more value for the price than the Series 8 in stainless steel. I hear you on wanting your purchase to make money, but that doesn’t apply to everything. I can’t think of a watch that is going to make anybody money, unless it’s a collectible that appreciates in value. But if it puts a smile on your face when you look at it, and it’s not completely out of your budget then it’s not a bad purchase in my opinion.

Whoa, great video. I'm really relating to you. Im a 66 yo Brit who loves my tech. Ive had a series 5 for over 3 years now and I've been looking at an ultra for couple of weeks. A new one is £850 in the UK that's 1023 Dollars!! I can't justify that. But I've got my eye on a used one, perfect condition at £600. Im selling the series 5 towards it. So I was thinking why don't you sell the 7 to help cover the cost of the ultra? You say you can't go back to the 7, so sell it!

Great video! I agree and disagree in 2 things. $799 is allot of money but the technology and what it can do it not actually isn't. There are thousands of watches out there for WAY more money and all the can do is tell you what time it is. This watch doe that plus tons more. Also, I completely agree that Apple watches are small and too plain looking but the Ultra looks bad a$$! I ordered one and can't wait to get it. Will I use all the features? Probably not, but It is awesome for the rest of the features. Just my opinion for what it's worth

This feels closer to a real watch than just a piece of disposable consumer electronics.

Great review... I've pretty much made up my mind to stay with my series 6 for now. I don't see enough bang for the buck to change.
Although I do scuba dive. I would have to change my set up to measure my oxygen levels just to use my watch. I do 3 day 100 mile competitions and I don't feel the Ultra will be able to complete the hikes. I will still have to bring a battery backup charger like I do today. The way points/find your way back is nice but that's a feature of watchOS9 not the ULTRA.
Although maybe easier to operate with the
ULTRA. The S8 chip specs are the same as the series 6, so there's no benefit there either.
The Ultra is packaged nicely and has made improvements. It seems more flash than dash and I'd be chasing the new shiny thing for $800 or 900 after Apple care.

No purchase for me as yet.. rocking a 5 year old Fitbit but fun sucked out by google getting rid of challenges. Made me look at AW. Tried them on in shop, Ultra too chunky for me and for price battery should last twice as long. Other models insane that they barely last a day. Quick peek at Garmin to see some nice ones and the headline claim of battery life on Samsung Pro watch seems appealing but locked in Apple ecosystem so will wait and see what Messrs Cook and Co have on offer in a few weeks time. Plus seeing buyers remorse ahead, what would such a watch give me that’s life essential over my Fitbit.

I agree that It is incredably expensive but for me it is worth it for the longer battery life, and swiming every day the greater durrability, I'm always hitting my watch on things, and the Ultra doesn't even seem to be fazed, my apple watch 6 got scratches on the aluminum, would be scratched up and It was always running out of power by the end of the day, when I worked 12 hr shifts at the hospital by the end of the day it was down to just a few percentages and stopped working after swimming 5 days a week, the warranty was long expired and I did not have apple care, I purchaced the Ultra and so far I do not have buyers remorse tho I did buy apple care + this go around, I do wish it wasn't so expensive.

I'm not the typical audience for most folks on TH-cam...I'm a 'Boomer" Generation. I own a horse farm and don't spend a lot of time watching TV/Internet videos. I must say you are very unlike many of the others reviewing this watch. You have a genuineness that comes through.
When you discussed the price, and how you look for a ROI (Return On Investment) on your purchases...THAT is SO refreshing to hear from a young man!! I hear SO many folks talking about wants, making them feel better/special and such. Keep up the good work - heck I hit the Subscribed button!! NICE JOB!
