    I got the ultra a month after its release, and have loved it since it arrived. But it REALLY won me over when I had a motorcycle accident. It automatically called the police and ambulance services to my location. It also informed my partner that I was in an accident, where the accident happened, and sent her periodic updates as to my location while I was in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. The most amazing thing is that it didn't even get the slightest scratch, and still looks brand new. Bloody love this watch. I do not regret this purchase in the slightest.

      @@PatrickRambles cheers mate. Luckily I was wearing some of the necessary proper gear, so I only busted the bajesus out of my finger (which I had surgery on it today to fix it properly), and the expected bumps, bruises, and abrasions. But yeah, the emergency features and durability of this watch are no joke. Those two things alone make this watch worth the hefty price tag.

      Glad your ok! That is amazing that the Apple Watch worked the well by contacting emergency personnel and even more amazing that it contacted your emergency contact. I knew it was supposed to contact your emergency contact also but I didn’t know know that it gave them updates as your location changed. That is such a great piece of mind to know that it works that well. I am really loving my ultra!

    If you use the “find my iPhone” button in the watch’s utility menu, tapping it once will play the sound on your watch, however a lot of people does not know that if you hold the button down, it will play the sound as well as making your flash blink on the phone, which is super convenient!

    I've had mine since the beginning of November. I've recently had an accident which ended up with me hitting the floor at a high speed. The watch took a big hit but it survived and also called emergency services. By the extent of the damages and where they were, if it would have been any other Apple watch model, it would have been a goner. Now it has a story to tell with a few scratches. Definitely battle hardened.

    I bought the Ultra as soon as it became available. I too was concerned with the size and price, not because if I could afford it, but more if it was worth the extra expenditure over the Apple Watch 8. I have this now for almost three months as well, and it is truly the best watch I have ever had, and well worth the purchase. It is large, but it is extremely comfortable and does not appear large on my small wrists. I love the Ultra!

  • @theloneviking9145
    @theloneviking9145 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I agree with a lot of your comments. The main reason I bought the Apple Watch Ultra upgrading from my series 7 was because of the brighter screen. I use the flashlight app a lot and I liked having the ability to use the action button for the flashlight.

    Haven't watched a Rambles video for awhile and it's good to see that the quality and attention to detail is still there. For me the Ultra would be overkill, but I can appreciate that for some the increased screen size and battery life alone make the purchase worthwhile.

    Give you my experience…had every Apple Watch since the original including the 8 and loved them all…also a few weeks after 8 watched a review on the Ultra and thought about it for a while even visited my local Apple Store and looked at the Ultra and it looked large…finally decided to try it so ordered one from Best Buy because they showed it was in stock and two day shipping and every one else was a month…got it and had mixed feelings in the beginning but the other day put on the 8 and in 10 minutes put Ultra back on. Love the Ultra and going to sell my 8.

    Thanks for the honest review, I am a Crossfitter and even ran an ultra marathon so a Garmin is probably better suited for me as an athlete, but I still love my AW ultra because it tracks those things well enough, but also meets my needs for a smartwatch way better than any Garmin could. Battery life was the key to make this a viable solution to track my longer trail runs and track sleeping. I love it because the third party app I'm using for workouts (Workoutdoors) has now taken advantage of the action button.

      I am looking to upgrade to either the 8 or the Ultra. The Ultra looks pretty huge. I also am into crossfit and notice sometimes my watch gets in my way during certain workouts (anything where your wrist is bending a lot like cleans) and have to flip it around. Have you had any issues with the Ultra during Crossfit workouts? Thanks

    • @fitdude
      @fitdude ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattzahn117 I have issues with Apple making it so the watch display goes to sleep instead of being always on, that is when using 3rd party apps. Physically getting in the way I have an issue when wearing wrist wraps...but to take care of it accidentally pressing the crown or other button, I have the watch configured so I wear it "upside down" so the crown is facing up my arm instead of toward my wrist and that has fixed that issue. I used to accidentally trigger the emergency call when doing crossfit, but that has gone away with the new configuration. You just have to go into settings to flip the screen orientation. I don't really hit it on anything except when doing kettlebell snatches. I wear it high enough on my wrist all the time (up past my wrist bone) so it doesn't get in the way when flexing my wrist.

    The SUV analogy works well. The AW Ultra still isn’t at the fitness level. The Action Button is an *improvement* because I have tried using my Series 2 and Series 5 as running watches but they don’t work. Sweat makes the touch screen hard to use, the native fitness app sucks, and doing things while your running is just inconvenient with a touch screen. One more button on the Ultra 2 would be an improvement.

  • @anorax001
    @anorax001 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The Ultra is way smaller than I was expecting. I thought it would be extremely large but it seems pics online tend to distort the actual size. It is smaller than my 40yo Seiko diving watch and the Ultra is featherlight on my wrist. With regards to the Alpine loop I am using the medium version and when I take it off or put it on I place my thumb over that part of the display where the hook could swing up and hit the watch. Overall I am very impressed with it and I now wear it every day.

    I completely agree with you that this watch can be great for "normal" people in normal situations, the SUV comparison was great. I have done some extreme things like advanced skiing and I have done quite a bit of diving, but I would mostly use this watch as an office watch. For diving I would use this as a backup watch but I would not us it as my primary diving computer. It just has so much complexity in it so I would not trust it for such important tasks, plus the diving computer I have has more features like it can give me the air supply of myself and my team. The things I like with the watch is 1. more battery. 2 better screen. 3 can snorkel/dive with it 4. looks better. Downsides 1. bulkier.

    That's a really good review. I own latest Garmin Fenix 7 model and would surely NOT swap it to the AWU even for free but AWU has some really nice features in deed.
    Still way behind Garmin for health tracking features(talking about a global picture of your wealthbeing) but hey, AW is a mini iphone on your wrist, Garmin is a health tracker and sports tool (even if you're just a regular gym visitor like I am).
    AW won't make you want to go to the gym, Garmin will :) and not only gym but even a casual walk in the park, as every such activity would show the impact on your training readiness, recovery score, daily body battery and stress :)
    Anyways, Garmin and AW are a different worlds, IMO you need to try both to understand which one is for you. I picked health over the phone on my wrist.
    Peace :)

    I came from a Garmin and got myself the Ultra for Xmas. It was the second time I’ve tried Apple Watch. Gave it a week as I really wanted to like it but sent it back and went back to Garmin. I didn’t like the ‘prissy’ interface, found the complications a pain and the battery life… well, laughable. I charge my Garmin less than once a month and find it does most of the things the Apple Watch did and none of the unnecessary. The fitness interface, maps and Garmin App (which syncs to Apple health, Strava and Nike Running) to be far superior. In the end, I didn’t like how I felt wearing the Apple Watch and it became another thing to ‘look after’ as well as my phone.
    Sorry Apple, I tried.

    I've had my Ultra watch since November and it is *perfect* for me because of the battery life, usage since it lasts 4.5 days (you have to adjust some things you rarely use and remove it completely). With the Ultra, I rarely have to check my phone since it can do anything (silently and useful for students, just don't make it too obvious😂). Make sure your wrist is actually bigger for this watch to hold nicely or it's going to be too loose no matter how tightly you wrap it.

    Very good review. I am a runner for the last 45 years; having run all distances up through the Marathon. That is my main use. I have an Apple Watch 6, but I would like to use the sleep tracker and some other features you mentioned. But my battery life won’t allow that conveniently. So, I definitely like the 2+ day battery. I also like the 2000 nits brightness. Thanks for the tip on the fast charger.

    Appreciate the video. I find my ultra to be great. Dont understand why when I forgot to set the action button on the running machine once it auto sprang into action. Vibrated me and asked am I training and when I pressed yes it brought forward the first 3 mins of my running on the machine too. It saved it. Only I have been on the running machine again and forgot the action button and then it never prompted me.
    TH-cam videos are crap. So small no purpose. The phone is just for convenience but as soon as I answer I am saying I will call them back.
    Open car with it?
    Sleep tracker. I got same thick strap and it does go tight. I had the largest size. Any slacker and I wonder could the tail of the strap come out its retainer and then possibly the watch could fall off my wrist?

      I think the 8 or Ultra would do well for you. I'm not sure how senior you are but the safety features on these watches are actually useful (for anyone, but even more so for seniors). If you have a very slim wrist, I'd check out the 8 but otherwise go for the ultra. Much better battery life.

    I bought an garmin instinct solar 2x and returned in the same day. The AWU, even with the low battery, is just so much better for what I do. I like bicycle touring so I always have a power brick, so keeping it charged is no problem. It syncs directly with my bosch ebike motor, and the navigation is nice since the watch vibrates for a turn, and notifies me in my air pods. New OS 10 lets me put 8 apps on the main screen. I really like this watch.

    how can we track carbs in and out, and movement vs stillness over the days best with this this clock? and can you have notifications telling you is time to eat for example, 450 kcal now, or is time to start moving in 10, 9, 8.. and motivate you to walk away form work and do some exercises as a break? are there apps for this that you have found more productive and help you really get it done vs just normal notifications or alarms in a computer , iPhone or watch? is there any system you found working differently and better to really get lazy procrastinating guys like me succeeding changing routines by the asset of this watch? thanks! love your videos

    • @PatrickRambles

      Hey man! The watch can't get out lazy assess out of our seats, only we can. But yes it will remind you to stand and move and you can set all sorts of reminders (e.g. To drink water). Automatic calorie tracking doesn't exist but te best app to track the yourself imo is Myfitnesspal. The watch will track your calories burnt by moving and exercising and the app will help you track calories in. Myfitnesspal will take the data from your watch and deduct the calories burnt from your calories eaten, to calculate your net results.

    Right there with you. I have largish wrists, so the AW Ultra fits me just fine. Everything about it is excellent and as dopey as it sounds, I just love wearing and using it. Would buy again. A+
    ETA: If you're going to be out in the sticks for a while and separated from your charger, power your watch off. Now, press the crown in (while powered off) and you'll get the current time. I don't know how long this mode lasts, but if all you need is the time while tromping around in the brush, it could potentially last weeks.

    I'd originally been drawn to a darker colour, but wasn't sure of size.
    I ended up getting a Nike Series 7 41 in Starlight - didn't need the 8's extra features, but wanted more than what the SE2 had to offer (the Ultra was just too big/expensive). Have to say, I absolutely love it.

    I have bought a Garmin Epix 2 and love it, the wrist base sensor is not as accurate as the appple and debating to by a wrist sensor or Garmin heart rate sensor so then I don’t have to ware watch if working as could get smashed as it saves data on sensor then transmutes to watch when in range, but also on my radar is the Apple ultra watch as been shown to have most accurate heart rate, sleep tracking and along with longest Apple battery life, I have bought a silicon band and screen protector for my Garmin in same way one buys a case for a smart phone so you could do the same with this Apple Watch or ware a wrist band over the top to look after it given it’s expensive price, by the way, I one of the rare people that use my suv in fields and mud and even pull a 8ft water fill roller this time of year to roll out the grass 😄, thank you for this video and enjoyed watching 😊😊
