    • @ryotaryuu
      @ryotaryuu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Lady_Darkness29 tbh, NAW let's gets some REAL facts here. Studies have proven again and again that men have a greater amount of skeletal muscle than women. In one such study that examined 468 men and women and was published in a 1985 issue of the “Journal of Applied Physiology,” researchers determined that men had an average of 72.6 pounds of muscle compared to the 46.2 pounds found in women. The men had 40 percent more muscle mass in the upper body and 33 percent more in the lower body. Men not only have more muscle, but pound for pound, their muscle is slightly stronger than a woman's -- about 5 to 10 percent, says Lou Schuler in "The New Rules of Lifting for Women." A study reported in a 1993 issue of the "European Journal of Applied Physiology and Occupational Physiology" attributed this strength difference to larger muscle fibers in men. So men have more actual muscle fibers than woman, and no matter what a woman does there is nothing she can do to change that.

      @keiy.4031 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      My guess is her manager was the one who STARTED the gossiping, not the coworkers. The manager was simply following-up on his coercion of getting Maya to out herself to Igor's mom because he wanted to tinker with her relationship and personal life by injecting drama into it, like some kid pouring water down an anthill to see what happens next. He essentially forced her to come out to the mom. He must feel super important.

      They WILL be supportive in the beginning. It's new, but I hate to be a debbie downer but over a period of time, the wheat will be separated from the chaff. The pretenders (of being supportive) will come out of the woodwork. At first, people don't want to offend because it's their job on the line, but after awhile they just can't help themselves. Some of the most standoffish people at my workplace, in the beginning, are now some of my most supportive. While the really "friendly" "OMG that's so super! You do you! Got any pics???" types are the ones who have the issues with it. Be careful.

    Trans, gay, straight, those terms should never enter the work place! It's none of their business your sexual orientation! I have watched this channel as a straight, conservative person, learning more about those around me and understanding everyone does not have to be the same. In fact, Maya is a prime example of how great ALL people are when they are allowed to be who they are, not who other think they should be. She is very much in control of herself, her future and her surroundings and should never be made to feel "Outside" the norm. She is the norm for her as I am the norm for me! You keep being yourself Maya, there is nothing about you that anyone should have a problem with. You are a great person and have a wonderful personality, keep faith in God and he will always get you threw. Always know your subscribers love you and support your efforts during your life's journey.

      Sexuality doesn't have to be a topic for the workplace but I speak as a bisexual woman in a full time job...if you spend a significant amount of time in a job you enjoy with people you get along with, your home life *will* come into conversation. Even simple things like what car to buy
      "My Wife drove a Toyota"...
      It's natural to say.
      For an lgbt person there are avoidance techniques you may never realise are happening. We feel we are "outing" ourselves even if it really is just a chat about cars. Most people don't say anything but believe me when I say it's exhausting when they do.
      I don't want to have a conversation about it, well meaning or otherwise but it happens anyway.
      Until my wife came out as Trans I had no idea!

    • @rctjacksonville
      @rctjacksonville 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @Dimpy Rambo if it were related to the position I would agree, but for positions that are not gender specific, I would disagree. The military might be an area where gender might be needed or police where body searches may occur.

    • @rctjacksonville
      @rctjacksonville 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @Dimpy Rambo , you mistook my stand point on this. I agree companies can ask gender for purposes of identification and your right, the birth certificate is that proof. The point was, this company made a point of zeroing in on her specific gender to other employees as it relates to customers in a lounge who would have no reason for that information. By singling out Maya, they made an issue out of something that should be personal information. Transgender is not a sexual fantasy, it is a psychological rejection of the persons born gender. The manager did not call a meeting and say "This guy like to have sex with other guys.", that would be a sexual reference. The manager called the meeting to make known the fact of Maya's feelings of gender as if to make a point it mattered on the job. Any good HR department would have the gender records for employment purposes, but that's where it should stay unless the job required a specific gender for the job as I noted. Imagine if your manager called a meeting and told everyone you liked eating chocolate cake in vegetable soup as my dad did. It is completely unrelated to the job, but you might find some people thinking of you as weird because of it. Maya is allowed in a free society to think and feel anyway she wants as long as that does not cause harm to others and that is personal to her and God. Some people are sensitive about their lives and they have that right.

I'm glad you stood up and told the manager and it got resolved really quickly.

    Back in the 80’s when I did my first transition. I nearly got killed for being outted at a club off Yonge st. It was so bad I didn’t come out for decades. What’s worse was they had no idea and they figured they’d get a little Japanese girl (me) out for a little fun..... then they found out and became aggressive and started assaulting me. I was able to escape but almost didn’t . Years later I had a problem at a work place so bad I couldn’t even blog about it. The depression and fear that set in and the company did what they thought was best but not understanding our challenges just made it worse for me. Watching your video, I’m so glad you made this!!! I hope CIS people can see this and be a bit more empathetic. Maya, you’re one of my favourite girls on the TH-cam!!!

Societies and lifestyle pushing us to go out from whatever safe zones we prefer to stay in, just to have some money to live! And what? Getting into all these troubles!

I'm in my first year as a Registered Nurse.. and my manager said "people have been talking about you, questioning whether you are confident or over compensating". It made me feel insecure and question myself. I'm sure it was my boss that was making stuff up. Glad to hear you dealt with it really well. ❤️

People need to be aware that the times where you could just say anti lgbt shit or any problematic ignorant stuff without getting called out for it are over. Ofc not everyone is understanding and will call someone out but the fact that you did is a great way of showing him that his words have consequences and that he will be held accountable. I feel like insecure people can sense when others are at peace with themselves and it makes them want to bring them down on their level. People throw rocks at things that shine. Every discussion at work that does not immediately link to the mission and vision of the company to serve the customer and help the employees enjoy serving the customers is counterproductive. Most managers are ill-informed at best and downright ignorant as usual. That is upper management's challenge: to find good managers. But consider: most HR people have no clue and most, no even the best, HR schools have not idea about anything but some general legal requirements. Keep going, girl!

    I think a lot of people that react negatively to these things are pretty insecure, whether they know it or not. it's a foundation built from years of being told you have to be a certain way and that only specific identities fit in specific roles, and being surrounded by that for much of their lives has molded them to be relatively inflexible, defensive, and hurtful.

    Everyone should be able to work in a safe and healthy workplace. The Occupational Health and Safety Act sets out roles and responsibilities of workplace parties with respect to workplace violence and workplace harassment. If human resources get involved in a situation where an employee is being harassed by a co-worker the manager should let them go with zero tolerance for that shit. It's another thing when your manager is harassing you too. If human resourses gets involved in a situation where your boss is doing it, the ministry and human resourses gets really nasty about that. They or he had no right and are just ugly ass people who need to get fired, you burn you learn. Zero tolerance - no exceptions.

    And this is sadly why I no longer work anymore. I’m so grateful to have a partner that can provide for me. My last job was with the Canadian company, Shopify. I worked remotely, because I live in Ireland, and it was at the very start of my transition so my colleagues didn’t know. It was a weekly occurrence that my colleagues would make trans related jokes, many of them who were completely against any sort of transgender rights. Allowing transgender people to use the bathroom of their identified gender was so shocking to them. I couldn’t believe their mentality because I had been told Shopify was such an ultra open-minded company to work for... yeah right. I knew I couldn’t transition while working there and had to leave. It scared me away from ever wanting to work with people again, unless it was something exclusively lgbt related. What a sad world we live in. People say countries like Canada and Ireland are so liberal and friendly, but opinions and mentalities towards trans people are stuck in a 1950’s mentality whilst women’s and gay rights have advanced so far.

      My best friend works for shopify in Ottawa. He told me during his interview they asked him his pronouns and everything (he's cis). I've never heard of anything like that about shopify. I have dealt with that though at another software company. It seems like when people don't know you're trans, they think they can get away with a lot more stuff than if they do know

    • @chromatica5494
      @chromatica5494 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Studio Gallifrey What bugged me most was that a lot of these transphobic remarks were being made from the very first week in training, right in front of our Canadian trainer, and she did absolutely nothing to stop it. You’re right, there was nobody visibly trans, so yeah, I guess they thought they could get away with saying a lot of crappy things. During training we would observe how Shopify employees ‘chatted’ to customers and I remember seeing a chat with a customer that had a fairly masculine name. The Shopify employee kept referring to this person as “sir” and when the customer told them that they were a “miss”, not a “sir”, the employee or “Shopify guru” clearly got offended and replied to the customer “well you told me your name is #### so that’s why I’m using sir”. I mean, instead of apologizing and correcting themselves, they insinuated that this person was a male because of a name and refused to accept otherwise. My manager didn’t see anything wrong with what that employee had said. I’m sure there’s a lot of great people working for Shopify at the main Ottawa office, but lately they’ve employed a lot of people remotely and standards are dropping rapidly.

    Stay strong No manager that’s any good would never do what he did and bring those talking about you to a private room and speak to them about the problem they had with you. He would also never ask you to say something to all of them That’s not your job You seem like you’re very together with who you are both on the outside and inside. I can’t imagine what you go through with small minded ppl.

    Thankfully the company I work for has some good policy on trans rights (though they are a bit out of date). Plus we have a bunch of people who stand up for LGBTQ+ rights and always behind our trans brothers and sisters if we have any. They also very supportive of me when I got attacked by TERFs this time last year.

    I agree with other comments about how you have undoubtedly grown so much in the area of emotional honesty and emotional intelligence. I fear confrontation but what you said makes sense. If you're secure in who you are, you can see the situation clearly and it takes the sting out of it. I can't get that first part yet. But you're hella inspiring.

    This made me so uncomfortable, I'm so sorry you went through it. Their behavior was totally unacceptable & discriminatory. It turns my stomach, my heart goes out to you.

    It's already hard to deal with ignorance when you are a woman, then if you are trans, I understand from your stories, it gets much much harder. Anyway, you surely taught the guy a lesson and your general manager gives me the impression of wanting to help you but overdoing things, namely taking over. As a woman is important that you learn to become assertive with guys in general because they always tend to patronize you in a way or another.

      Doing that drags yu into shit..thats why yu don't do that. I am 20 now and when I was 17 I started to see patterns of behavior like never before..there's a reason why no on looks at one another while passing by on the street..we "bs glance around" or at our phones. Yu better do either of the two otherwise yu will have some interesting/troubling anxiety, paranoia and unplesant escalations with ppl..Yu can't go out, have a good time and expect a call back from that person or solid hangout plans later. ..it dsnt work that way usually. Or they want something from you, dragg yu dwn in someway...

    First of all thank you for your channel .
    It is important to correct anyone that is transphobic or prejudice in a work environment, bringing it to management attention most of the time produces the desired effect. In less management mishandles the infraction and or is prejudicial itself. I work in a male dominated industry and have recently came out as transgender and indeed there is much discrimination but there is also

    It's a shame.people can't just be nice to each other ,I have never had a problem with transgender people,why should I ,they live their life and I live mine ,I have found some.trans people very attractive people ,but even if I didn't live and let live ,how about the golden rule if nothing else.I wish you well and safety .

    I worked at a Bath and Body Works in Canada and a lot of the males on staff were gay, so I felt pretty safe and happy there, and then one night during closing my gay male manager started going on a rant about he supported Trump lmao. Other LGBT people in the workplace can be just as insane or even self-hating. I was lucky to have a place with an owner whose brother is gay and who hired very diversely so we had a team full of cool and largely accepting people, I can't imagine how many fights I would start out in the parking lot if my coworkers outed me and I found out they were gossiping.

    Thank you for sharing your story. The more society hears these stories, the better it will be for everyone, even non-trans people, as there are many ways to be.
