I am a 39-year-old trans woman and I firmly believe that there should be more gatekeeping for transitioning, there needs to be better education about the risks involved, and there are some very serious risks for anyone medically transitioning. I am happy that you did find your true self and I am sorry that the journey had to take you down a potentially dangerous path. As far as your trans friends shunning you for detransitioning, they weren't real friends. A real friend doesn't care if you are trans or not, they should care that you are happy with who you are no matter where you are on your journey to find yourself.

Yes, much more education on side effects, long term, FEELINGS but, the facts on how, medically, what you go through. The taking of pills, as well as the pain of healing, procreation. It really is going to shorten life expectancy.
Lately, It seems glorified and a trend. I just am so worried that there's so much emphasis on making A DECISION NOW. Something so personal and intimate, should be looked at with hundreds of 100s of "what if" questions. In this case, in every case, there are no stupid questions. Explore everything as deep and far as you can. I can promise one thing in life...things change. Situations, feelings, science, literally everything changes whether we want them to or not. Love and light to all.

I’m the parent of a trans kid (ftm). I had a tomboy phase / gender dysmorphia for most of my childhood (5 to early 20s). There is a lot of pressure on kids now to physically transition as early as possible. I’m just trying to slow mine down enough to grow into themselves and make informed choices. He is socially transitioned, but I really don’t believe he can give informed consent to irreversible changes yet, or that he can be absolutely certain how his path will unfold at 14 (gender identity is a journey). Of course I’m going to love him whatever path he takes, but as the mum I feel I need to protect his right to have all the information and the maturity to make informed choices…

This is why I’ve decided to just cancel my subscription to gender as a whole. Because when I was discovering all this stuff I was recognizing that I didn’t resonate with how I viewed society to define a woman as. I thought maybe then I was gender-fluid or androgynous or something, but the more I tried to find some mold to fit into, the more I realized that none of them fit me. I feel so much better just being whatever I am and not trying to define it any further than “I’ve cancelled my subscription to gender. My biological sex is female, call me whatever pronouns you want.” Because it does occasionally make me feel nice inside when someone online or that hasn’t met me refers to me as “they” or “he,” that I could be viewed as something other than stuck inside the social construct of what femininity should look like. I can just exist. And I like that.

I think that, too! It is not that I don't like femeninity or masculity, but I dislike the bad things associeted with them. I want to do "masculine things" ("being masculine") without people telling me I act/look like a man! Can't I just be a human experiencing life? Why my choices, likes and dislikes should be conditiones by my biological sex and thus my assigned gender? I don't have issues with being a woman, a biological female, but... I certainly kinda dislike being seen as femenine. I mean, what I dislike it to be classified in a term... Can't I just enjoy pretty dresses? Can't I just enjoy climb trees and throw myself on the ground for fun? If I'm called femenine or c¡masculine, it feels like I am not genuine, but a well-made product from my society. I want to have short hair, like boys, but I want to wear a dress. I am a woman, but I am neither femenine or masculine, I am just me. Whats is more important in me as a person is the fact that I am a human. I'll be happy when people stop calling things "femenine" or "masculine" and just let people enjoy experience life as humans full of curiosity as we are.

Why do you think minority groups in America who are threatened by law, society, and mistreatment tend to identify heavily and almost make proud their race, sexuality etc, and identify so hard with these factors? Could it be that when you and your community are mistreated for that common factor of being black, trans, Hispanic, etc by mainstream society you tend to stick with and identify with that identity that is under attack. As well as the identity becoming a resistance against that mistreatment, pride in the face of attack. Trans pride is a response to trans hate, black power is a response to racism and white supremacy in America, etc. So people are so identified with it because it's being attacked, no one is saying "hey I'm trans I'm gay I'm special" it's hey I'm trans in the face of a country that doesn't seem to want me to exist and makes me feel lesser for being. I'm standing here proud of this factor, I am effectively looking to be resistance to the mistreatment.

Thank you for being so calm throughout the video. Thank you for sharing your experience.

I do believe that people should have to go the therapy to transition and should have to be 18 the problem is people who don’t let their kids social transition because I think that would help with them figuring themselves out.

It helped that I'm roommates with two gay guy friends who are shirtless a lot. But that moment was the first time I mustered showing that much skin, I thought the anxiety would cripple me but it didn't. I felt good about my body. For background, I'm nonconforming and the first time I wore shorts was when I was 17. Gender ideology politics would not survive here in my country because we don't have a native word nor concept of modern 'gender', only biological sex and that's what matters.

You cannot find what is already there but you can get to know yourself. It takkes time to develop your passions, beliefs and moral character and in the meantime we feel lost.
Don't beat yourself up in the meantime friend. Your mind won't finish developing until you're 25 and in that time period you will discover so much about yourself. Until then find purpose, find God and just give love into the universe so that it may come back to you.
Society is lost and we deal with the negative repercussions of a lost society. Families are broken and due to this we have no sense of community and belonging and generations before us did but it is okay to not know at times and it is okay to be alone.

I had some "tomboy-ish moments" myself just because I didn't like skirts and dresses; I wasn't at ease with puberty as well transitioning from a young girl to a young woman brought some challenges and questioning, and there was nothing wrong or abnormal with that.

Nobody cared about my looks or not so girly hobbies. I was just this one girl that was a tomboy. And I grew up and I start to wear make up and stuff but my hobbies are still the same. This is a great film, so well explained.
I am over 60 and as a young girl I longed to be a boy. I liked boys cloths and toys. In games I wanted to be the king, the knight, the horse or dog, anything but the princess or queen. I was jealous of boys.
I did fancy men from a very young age and I was attracted to some women too but not sexually, just longed to be near them. If becoming transgender had been a thing that was possible then, by that I mean talked about and accepted. I would have probably wondered if that was what I wanted.
I studied agriculture. I was the first girl from a large London comprehensive to do this. I drove tractors as one of my first jobs. I now mostly wear trousers and was so happy when my children were boys as I had the excuse to get all the boys toys to play with (so I could play with them too). I made sure they had lots of girls toys to play with too and a whole mix of dressing up stuff.
I am very glad to be married and to be a mum. Being a woman is wonderful once you understand that you don’t have to be “typical”?

As someone who was hospitalised for anorexia, so many aspects of this are giving me deja vu. When Dr's tell you about the long term consequences of doing this to yourself, it doesn't sink in because you've made this illness your whole identity, you felt lost, confused and overwhelmed before and now you drown out real life with this issue.
There were people who didn't fit the diagnostic criteria for anorexia because they were a healthy weight and they made a new diagnosis, eating-disorder not otherwise specified. There were even people who advocated for a weight category to be removed from the diagnostic criteria for AN because they wanted the diagnosis but they weren't skinny. And it was offensive to think otherwise, you had to respect their self-diagnosis.
The only major difference was that no sane person or health professional would've allowed any adolescent to pursue their goal of starving themselves to death while saying "ok if you think you're fat, we will call you fat and help you lose weight!"

As an 19 year old girl who went through the ideas of "maybe im a boy, it would be fun to try transitioning- there would be no pressure to conform to stereotypes". That's the thing though- never forget this:
Never let a stereotype push you into a box. Never let anyone define you. You are an incredibly unique and beautiful human being. "Feminine" and "Masculine" mean nothing in the grand scheme of your unique DNA, and your unique thoughts, and your unique soul. You are 100% YOU.
I was very close to becoming trans during the ages of 14-18 and I realized after a long while of struggling that I changed SO SO much over those 4 years and it was worth it to wait and be patient with myself and my mind and body. I was too unique to be pushed into the LGBTQ stereotypes (because oddly enough, they try to break stereotypes by making so many more stereotypes). Not to hate on the LGBTQ at all- I just see it as a human being being far too diverse in far too many aspects that it is impossible to fit yourself into a box.
I don't care if im not 100% femenine, I don't care if im not 100% Masculine. I know for certain that I am 100% me, and only I can define what I am by being myself and allowing myself to learn and listen. :] You are incredibly unique, so whatever you decide to do in life, don't ever forget how unique you are.

The words and actions of random people online shouldn't affect the way you view trans people as a whole... that's textbook transphobia. The internet is full of trolls and assholes, not sure why that resulted in you thinking trans people act like clowns. This video and many of the responses to the video are fostering a lot of hatred (even though the poster probably didn't intend that) and misunderstanding toward trans people. Ex: she says she hated her parents and found ways to demonize them "probably because that's what my friends were doing". That's not how trans people (not people who think they might be trans) feel, they are often hated by their parents. There is no "doing what their friends are doing" because they're not like their friends... at all. I don't like how many people are twisting and misunderstanding.

I transitioned when I was older(by that I mean 18) so that makes it even weirder for me to see this. Especially since I grew up around a trans sibling and friends. But I never really thought about my body issues until I was 17. Even than I only realized I was trans when tried really hard to be a man
Edit: I agreed with most of the video. Just got to the end. I was with you through out all of this. But they do tell you the changes of testosterone is permanent? They have to, legally tell you that. So either your doctor was shit or you didn’t really get close to transitioning other than socially. Which is why it’s always recommended to socially transition before medically. Cause than you can realize it was not you. Like you did

Speaking as a former anti-fascist. There are exceptions for more trivial matters like transitions. It's not awful or life altering, or so I was told by others of the community.
I am no longer of that spectrum, but I still somewhat believe in their way of thinking, which is essentially as I just said. Peer pressure, take advantage of mentally unstable, and take advantage of loopholes in law. Ringleaders are trying to get more supporters, and the greater plan requires them to stir up hate and such. They need more fodder. They are paid to do so, anyone would do such things if they were being paid millions. Who wouldn't?

    • @Hhhhhhhhh186
      @Hhhhhhhhh186 ปีที่แล้ว +28

In the USA, as a child you need extensive testing from mental health professionals to get care beyond social transition/presentation (haircut and a nickname.) It has to be persistent and consistent for a kid to get anything medical. As an adult, the informed consent model requires the doctor to walk you through the side effects point-by-point. When I started on testosterone, I had to sign off on each section of side effects (bottom growth, hair growth, body recomposition, voice changes.) I signed my legal name maybe 12 times and was given a printout to take home. It was very thorough. I was fortunate to have a clinic near me that does informed consent. A larger gender clinic took a year just for me to get an appointment with them. The gatekeeping is strong and I agree with it.
I think a lot of kids especially say "I transitioned!" when really they got a haircut and a nickname. People assume children are getting surgeries but the actual number of kids medically transitioning are very low. The woman in the video is right though, Trans is the new Goth and as a trans adult it can be very annoying to see children treat this identity as a frivolous trend. It really takes away from trans kids who experience extreme dysphoria and belittles their experiences.

The thing is, if x guy thinks she is a girl, the moment he opens up to someone about it there's barely anyone who will question that he's not that, they'll lure him into believing it even if initially he was just questioning it, regardless of if he actualy wants to be a girl deep down, and if someone says something that would make this guy turn back for a moment, they're transphobic and he shouldnt listen to the hater. Suddenly without realising x is now as you call it socially transitioned, and not even a psychologist will question it, he may now take hormones and get through irreversible changes, since he already socially transitioned. The act of medical transition will give you warnings along the way? Yes, but socially transitioning will not and thats the issue. Everything needs to be able to be questioned by anyone, its not the same if you only see one side of the coin. In this comment section if you scroll for a bit you can see quite a lot of stories of others who de transition, most of them admit to be confused or having thought that their struggles would be solved if they transitioned, so if its a common issue why cant people bring it up as a point when others are questioning their gender?

I 100% understand and empathise with your experience and think detrans voices are vital to the conversation around transitioning, but it's difficult because when it comes to laws and experiences around medical transition, it varies so heavily. I've heard of so many people for whom transition was overwhelmingly positive and for whom (like myself) are caused distress by the extremely long waitlists and legal hurdles. hell, I just finished crying earlier today from finding out I would have to wait yet another 18 months to even begin to be assessed and possibly be prescribed testosterone. but inversely, there are detransitioners who hold immense regret and grief over their transition. I believe there should be nuance and representation of a range of experiences and possibilities when it comes to identity and sexuality, but I'm unsure of how we should legislate and present the topic to young people.

Thank you for coming on here and speaking out. More and more young women are telling their detransition stories and it is so important that kids going through this now, hear those stories. Anyone who is not an adult should not be given the choice to make a permanent physical change to their bodies. The teenage years are tricky to navigate and it is a time when you try to find your identity and discover yourself. As a teenager, I was sort of a tomboy. I did not like dresses and preferred baggy trousers and comfy t-shirts, but my parents and everyone else understood that this was a normal phase that I was going through. I was never made to believe that I was a boy. The truth is, it is totally normal for teenage girls and even adult women to not "Feel feminine" at some point in their lives. We need to teach girls that if they do not fit into today's definition of femininity that it is still okay and it does not mean you are not female. Different women like different things. You can be a female trucker, female firefighter, or female bodybuilder. Being a woman does not mean fitting into a set of feminine traits outlined by today's society.

I want to thank you for sharing your story here. It's so incredibly important that people like yourself who have been caught up in the trans ideology relay their story for others to hear, who may be about to turn down a road that there would be no fully coming back from. Where your head is at any given moment in your life, is no indicator of where it can potentially be further down the line in life. The beautiful thing about getting older is that you build up a library of experience based on years spent on this planet, that cannot be obtained any other way.

But I basically left the LGBabc123 community as soon as I learned that kids were only being "gender affirmed" without question, and not letting them be kids and explore who they are. I think this has a huge social contagion to it, especially with the rise of social media, and all these young kids are being pulled into the hype. It terrifies me to think if I grew up in today's society, I remember crying myself to sleep, wishing God had made me a girl instead of being a gay man so bad. If I had tiktok as a kid in the 90's... I could have had a very difficult life for no reason.
The history of social contagions is quite startling, particularly in generations of young girls, and a lot has to do with not being comfortable in your changing body. Anorexia, cutting, and gender dysphoria, are all serious emotional issues that spread like wildfire in young people and can be tracked in huge spikes in numbers every 20 years or so. I'm so happy you were able to get out before any permanent and irreversible surgeries.

If I had grown up in todays era, I would’ve most definitely been considered trans. I was and kind of still am very much a tomboy. As an adult I have embraced my femininity. It’s crazy how much has changed culturally in the last 10-20 years. So proud of you to speak out with your experience. I genuinely feel very sad for all of you that had been sold a lie at such a vulnerable age. Adults that have an agenda have used all of these children and it’s sickening. Prayers for your future and wishes for you to one day have children. They are a struggle but also so much of a blessing. They fill your heart with so much joy.

this was a very insightful video to watch as a trans man who is around the same age as you. honestly, i think it's very normal to discover new ideas and explore them when we are younger, including gender identity. we are all figuring ourselves out at that time in our lives. some people take different paths than others once we get older and are more aware of how we feel and why we do. just as i don't understand why it matters if someone is trans, i also don't get why someone would be upset at you for realizing you are not because we've all had to take the time to figure ourselves out in some way. thank you for sharing your experience !!

I did a lot of questioning and trying to find out where my feelings were coming from, and im about 99% sure i would not transition because i hated myself. Actually exact opposite. as a trans man, whos been trans or experiencing heavy masculinity since the single digits, I think im very sure of my stance. ive had these thoughts, feelings, and all of that for a very long time. i was put into womens acting and modelling as a young girl, and it never felt right to me. as i got older, i realized i didnt like being a girl. i didnt know anything about transgenderism, didnt know it was real to change your gender, but i still felt like that. this is why, as i read on trans and detrans, i think it wasnt something pushed onto me. i feel glad that i didnt ever have to look it up - when i was a young girl, i just knew it was like that.
    however.
i will always watch both trans and detrans videos. i dont think i'll ever fall under the detrans as im very happy with who i am now, but i feel i absolutely must explore the possibility im misguided, even misguided not by the internet - which i didnt have acess to back in the start. was it possible i was a 'butch'? (though i like all genders) i watch detrans videos to better understand how detrans folk felt during their transition. luckily, i dont relate to any of it, but i think its always good for all trans folk to explore the possibility they are misguided.

Then I announced my intention to detrans and my closest friend, who was of course also trans, stopped talking to me. I basically posted on social media after "im detransitioned." and have ever since abandoned all social media ad just do everything alone, go to work and come home and spend time alone every day. She really wanted to share your story and I absolutely agree with her that voices like yours are so important. I think you’re incredibly courageous to be able to talk publicly about your experience growing up and I think there are a ton of people who can relate to how you felt that need to hear a voice that maybe challenges or even sheds a different light on their situation.
It’s so easy to get lost in the echo chamber and feel like you’ve gone past the point of no return, but your story will free so many young girls who have isolated themselves and can’t find their way out of the loneliness, anxiety, depression, confusion, and unhappiness that comes from not knowing how to heal mental health issues. I wish I had found someone like you when I was going through similar situations as a young girl and I’m certain you are already making a positive impact on many lives.

3:00 I think it's great that your family is actually supportive but a lot of LGBTQ+ people cannot say the same. I never experienced people encouraging me to distance myself from my family. While some of my queer friends also had unsupportive families', others had very supportive people. The only thing we'd say is "only come out if you feel safe to do so" because there is a real genuine risk to be queer. A significant portion of homeless teenagers (in the USA) are LGBTQ+.
My family is so overtly bigoted that I didn't and still don't feel safe around a lot of them. I felt isolated because existing in that environment was isolating. It wasn't that I felt misunderstood, I felt that the only safe course of action was to hide my identity because they literally see certain groups of people (that I am apart of) as subhuman.
Found families are prevalent because so many have lost their biological family because of their queer identity or because their family members are abusive. These people don't have to move about the world with zero support system, that is what found family is for. And while it's common in the queer community it's not exclusive to the queer community.

I believe we need to educate more people but also not come at the trans community. I don't really involve myself with the trans community but I'd like to say some things
My mother would not let me transition for a long time because of her religion. Which did cause me and her to separate. She let me start testosterone and now me and hers relationship is so much better. I love my family... I personally don't think the community promotes hating your family but we all have different stories...I understand.
I actually became dysphoric AFTER puberty, I was 13 and couldn't look in the mirror without Wondering who it was and breaking down.

non-binary here who's not that young anymore; I'm incredibly sorry you had to go through all of this. Stories like yours highlight how necessary it generally is to go to therapy and to seriously reflect and question what you feel and what causes these feelings before transitioning.
We can all learn from this.
A lot of the time, you can't reach objective insights without a competent and, most of all, neutral (not lgtbq+ friendly and definitely also not anti-lgtbq+) therapist. So if you are seriously questioning; find a competent, neutral therapist who will figure these things out together with you and find the best way to approach things. This is the way to go. And if at the end of at least a year of therapy the conclusion is that a transition is the best for you, then go for it. If the result is a different one: hey, also great, bc you just safed yourself a lot of irreversable changes that probably aren't the right ones for you. Just make sure it's a good therapist.

Brilliantly said. It’s the timeless adage that if you’re not happy inside before a big life change of any kind, you won’t be happy after. Learning to be happy and accepting of one’s self must come first (and in many cases by that time, one has realized that they are okay the way they are). Also, this shows how any group of young people experience the same thing that young people have been experiencing since the beginning of time. Namely, clinging to whatever identity they relate most to, thinking everyone else is against them and ignorant or uneducated because they don’t have the same level of commitment to a belief that they do. It’s just part of growing up process we all go through.

You should consider writing a book about not only your experiences but also your view of the lgbtq community and how this is woven into society and culture. You are so good at explaining this in a way that is not offensive and is very honest. I feel like a lot of the desire to transition revolves around the mental and physical changes and challenges young women feel as they enter into puberty and navigate the transition from child to adult. That along with how it has become a high school clique or popularity club, with outsiders looked down upon. They think they are the ones under attack from hate, yet it is the other way around. Everyone is free to live their lives in their own ways, so long as it doesn't hurt someone else's life. I feel like you have spelled out the entirety of this situation in summed up detail, your perspective on it is what gives you the ability to explain this to lgbtq members in a way that reminds me of having a translator. Able to fill in all the conversations on both sides that had pieces lost in translation and to know how to 'not offend the locals'. Thank you for posting this, don't let any negative comments bring you down!

They are 100% doing this by encouraging kids not to open up to their parents and creating a stigma that doing so would be “unsafe”. Then if/when they finally do tell the parents they threaten them that if they don’t just go along with the transition the child will hurt themselves, preying on a parent’s worst fear. This is exactly what predators do.

Having issues with body image, and what not, is not the same as having gender dysphoria.
But I can 100% get why when you're in highschool, these things can get confused.

Thank you for this video! Showing it to my kids so they can be prepared if anything like this comes up in their life.
