anyone came into trouble when they removed the doubles , separate by loose parts, move individual origins to geometry, add the rigid body system with the default settings, and make sure gravity is off, when you press play, it doesnt stick together, doesnt explode but lots of parts just drifted off randomly as if they were in space???? idk whats causing it, anyone care to jump in?

If anyone is confused about how to draw on the pane with the annotation (grease) pencil in 2.91, you need to select the object in object mode, enter edit mode, select the Annotate tool, draw on the object, go back to object mode, and then F3 search "frac" and apply the Object->Quick Effects -> Cell Fracture effect

Hey - I just wanted to say, I really appreciate the long-form tutorials. I remember you mentioned in a podcast or something how the analytics was telling you everyone switched off after 5 mins, and my heart sank because I thought you weren't going to make long ones any more. I know doing something so involved must be a massive pain, but I really love seeing the project go from start to finish, so as one of the minority who stick through to the end, thanks for doing them!

I'm currently about 75% through your donut/coffee tutorial, and I already feel less intimidated by it and willing to go forward with it-- because I now have found someone who is not only thorough, knows what the heck he's doing, but also very good at his teaching method. AND-- he does it for free. I cannot thank you enough. Thank you for helping me get over my fear to learn the one thing in life (3D) I had always wanted to learn.

You can keyframe so much (state change?) stuff in the GUI, it's pretty nuts. Learned this when I was trying to hide / show objects in an animation. All you do is just insert keyframes in the outliner while hiding or showing the object (using the arrow keys to move forward and backward in the timeline of course). Great tutorial, if I ever write that book I am thinking about I'll reference you for the cover (nothing like smashed glass for a cover)!

if you are in 3.0 or later, the plugin wont work. instead, parent a force field to the bullet and play around with the settings or keyframes to get the effect you want!!
Bug in 3.0 or later, giving any active rigid body a particle system will break the simulation, you have the add an emitter where the glad break and make it emit the particles

Is there a way to take this over into Unity 3D or Unreal?

Great tutorial. At 0:00, a bit a bug tho, bc the bullet didn't start twisting until 1 second in, which isn't realistic. The bullet would ideally be twisting the entire time.

Just a quick suggestion though Andrew, and I hope I don't sound like a know-it-all, because your 3d work is way beyond anything I can do. I notice the bullet starts rotating just a tad before it hits the glass. I'm guessing this has something to do with the physics in the scene. My suggestion would be to add a a couple key frames to the bullets rotation from the very beginning, so that it is already rotating when it comes in contact with the glass. A lot of gun barrels are rifled, so this rotation (if slow enough) would be realistic anyway.
    Cheers, and thanks again!

looks like a nice way to make an astroid field or something, just increase size and all that and you get the idea

edit: more tips as I progress will be added here
so i did the whole join thing at 22:00 but was having trouble when separating the shards so they can go back to being their own objects. If you were like me, you probably did everything verbatim and when you separated ur shards, all your shards went to one location on top of each other, you also probably noticed applying the transforms does not help at all in this situation.
I realized if you undo everything until before you merged the vertices by distance (remove doubles) if you just select all the glass shards and tab into edit mode, you can then just merge the vertices there and wont have to separating anything because you wouldn't of needed to join anything, all your origins should be where they need to be as well
You are probably having a hard time moving your bullet after your first keyframe, in your rigid body settings there's a option under dynamic that says animated, check that.
