All you have to do is take a picture of the UFO while tracking it at equal speed, with the shutter speed set to 1/(refresh rate/4). Oh well, the video was pretty good at showcasing the screen's picture quality capabilities anyway, as always :)

Thanks Vincent, amazing amazing detail on this video. Really awesome to see the advantages of 240Hz OLED in motion clarity - which is really the next horizon in overall picture quality, especially for moving content. Actually seeing you trying out games and netflix and going into the pros and cons is super helpful. Hopefully this also helps prompt NVIDIA and Microsoft to get HDR working more seamlessly on windows games. I use a 55" C1 to play PC games on an RTX 3080 and the experience is a little bit finnicky - GeForce recording software doesn't work at all and when changing from HDR to SDR the screen input flickers several times. Also HDR looks washed out when playing Elden Ring and Halo Infinite. The display tries to use a weird 4096x2160 resolution resulting in a cropped image so you have to go in and remove that resolution output from the driver using a custom too, which you then have to remember to do every time you update your graphics drivers. haven't quite figured it all out yet.

Make a 27 inch version of this with black frame insertion capability, for much clearer motion at all framerates, and I'll happily spend good money on it.
240Hz is great, but it is next to impossible to run modern triple-A games at that framerate. I would use it for competitive eSports type games, but that's it. Besides PC games, I also enjoy many console games and this is another important consideration. I want 60fps games, and yes, even 30fps games, to have the best motion possible.
CRTs have the best motion for 30fps and 60fps games out of any of the displays I own. But my ViewSonic XG2431 IPS monitor, which offers backlight strobing at any refresh rate between 60fps and 240fps, is a very close second. This is why we need black frame insertion capability on OLED monitors. My LG CX has BFI and the motion resolution/clarity it offers is excellent, although it does lose too much brightness and color fidelity. It would be fantastic if an OLED monitor maker could give us user adjustable pulse width and other controls, in order to better dial in the motion quality/brightness trade off that suits our preferences.

I do not understand why manufacturers are not doing true RGB pixel OLED panels. They would bring the best viewing experience possible but I guess organic technology will always be limited by the brightness because of OLED degradation, and then they use these strange pixel arrays to make it brighter.
Also why does not anyone create AMOLED displays for laptops that would make the pixels stay active instead of PWMing and turning each pixel individually.

Bombshell - monitors/TV's with high Hz will be utterly pointless unless the game engine (NOT that DLSS3 FAKE frame sh#t) FPS can get close to matching the display frequency. A 240Hz display will STILL look crap when e.g. a 60fps game engine scene pan occurs - all panned gfx in the scene will look jerky af since positional data can only be updated 60 times a second. If, on the other hand, the game engine could output at 240 times a second then positional updates are now possible at 4 times the frequency of that 60fps pan !!!
The same concept happens with the other way round - a game engine fps of 240 will be wasted on any display lower than 240Hz (and will look just as crap at 60Hz, as seen above).
Embarrassingly, this basic concept is VERY poorly understood.

  • @teddym2808

    No HDR matters
Netflix will only stream 1440P video as windows will tell it the monitor res, and the dark compression artefacts are still horrifying at 1440P. Those black waves and smears you see in dark content is what I am talking about. HDR completely eliminates this (well Dolby vision does I can tell you).. Right now I have the GT77 and have to return it cause of the 4K screen bleed, it is beyond anything acceptable and even the reseller agreed from a simple pic! But again, even though HDR video won't stream on this even though it's supposed to, not TH-cam not Netflix, at least Netflix streams in 4K and those dark artefacts are very minimal.
1440P without HDR to me is an absolute no go, and it will never get fixed, cause all MSI are doing is blaming Nvidia and Intel.
Even though on my Legion 7i, with very latest drivers, HDR works in both intel and direct GPU mode, on ANY supported game and ANY supported video. First time every time. I guess MSI will change to say that Nvidia drivers break it on OLED screens, but my GT77 is IPS and it's not working. It's not Nvidia, it's MSI.
