@@ericadavenport2039 we were not able to save for retirement as we lived paycheck to paycheck and then had to take disability in our 50’s. God has provided. We don’t take vacations or waste money. Can’t buy things we want, but that’s ok. We are thankful for what we have.

My circumstances aren’t exactly like yours but I hear you. My husband of 50+ years recently left me for a girlfriend I never knew he had- I had trusted him. Fixing things around the house was never one of his priorities. After he left the hot water tank died, so did our water pump and now I need a new water softener- My water is black at times. Of course he’s not helping financially with anything If anything I hope to let others know that these things do happen. Tessie, our Savior knows our circumstances and will help us through them ❤

Oh my gosh Tessie!! I thought of you this morning! I also live in a double wide 1960's trailer. The date stamped on the tongue says 1967. I woke up freezing this morning our heat was out!!! We keep it set on 67 and leave it, and only turn it up if we really need it. But this morning it was 53 in here!!! It was dropping fast because of the weather moving in. In 20 minutes while waiting for my husband to call me back and trying to figure out what to do, it was at 51 and as I was looking at it dropped to 49!! I was in a panic still in my nightgown and half asleep I couldn't think of what to do. My husband had left for work at 4:45am when I did speak to him he said it was cold when he left, but it's always cold when he leaves so he didn't think much of it. I ran and threw another quilt on the kids and wrapped up in my blanket and just stood there! Then I said what would Tessie do?? I thought pray! So I prayed, hard, and asked God for wisdom and praised Him for this home he supplied us with )that's a whole big miracle in itself) and I asked him to please not let it cost us a ton of money. When I was done, I realized that I could turn on the oven and get us some heat going. I set it on 300 and opened the oven door to get it back up to something tolerable. After searching for an answer, I found a old book I bought on house hold repairs. It's great it has sections on everything fireplaces, water heater, basic washer and dryer repairs and furnaces !! It has a trouble shooting guide for each thing. One of the things it started with was check the thermostat for a battery and check it. Tessie, It was corroded so badly it wasn't making any connection. So I cleaned it up and put new batteries in, and it worked!!! Anyway you came to my mind and I began to think about how resourceful you always are, then I thought of the book I got at a thrift store because it was older and you always get your older books. I know God was guiding me, but I got my spunk to not give up and to figure it out from watching you!!
Thanks sister! Wow what a great birthday gift a new water pump! Lol! I know that I for one am already praying for God to supply the money for it and I know He will and that others are going to be praying for you too ❤❤❤❤ God has so richly blessed us Tessie.

Being low income and widowed the struggle is real. My roof needs to be replaced and its a necessity. I have flooring that needs replacing in the house. Not a necessity but would be nice. But God has somehow gotten me through 21 years of widowhood and I'm still in my home. Only through God.

What you shared about needing alternate sources for water, electricity, etc. was really important. We all need to be considering these things. When we are faced with challenges, we always try to stay positive like you and we know God is with us and it will all work out. We flooded by the river in 2022 and now our 1910 farmhouse is settling, my husband and I are in our early 60's and will be doing much of the work ourselves, because we are still able physically and it saves us the labor costs for things we can do, which helps us pay for the things we can not do ourselves. We know about an old home, we've been working on ours for over 20 yrs. and still have lots to do, the flood set us back, we are still chasing our tails so to speak, but God is good all of the time. Praying for you and Ken, God Bless!

If you don’t look like low income that just means you are good at making do with what you have. You don’t gripe and groan about everything you just go on. . That really gets me when people assume your not low income just because your home doesn't look like it. That just because your low income your suppose to be living in a shack with raggedy furniture. I am low income myself even though l don't look like it. I struggle month to month paying bills and then l got hit with a 5 k law suit because of a car accident a year ago. The accident was not my fault. But because my Mom stopped paying the car insured which l was not aware of her doing and the state l live in it is concerned my fault. Then my rent went up 60$ a month this year. So l had to go back over my budget to figure out what do to cover that payment each month now for the lawsuit. So when people say that they need to try and live in the other person's shoes before judging.

I know every time my husband and I had a financial hit(and we are low income as well) .. the LoRd would press upon me to just Trust Him..
I got a roof over my head and food in the lauder .. and a loving husband and beautiful children.. I know even some of the richest folks are never happy with what they got.. I would rather be poor and have my JESUS and family than be a rich man and have no one ..

I don't know why people wouldn't believe you. Things break. This year we had to hook up to city sewer and that costs $$ but if you don't hook up you will end up paying a fortune if your septic goes out and ours is old. What we didn't expect was that there was a water leak in our bathroom that required a plumber. Then the water heater went out and we had to replace it. It's life and you have to fix these things and we don't spend a lot. Fortunately we had the money but it put a big dent in our savings. We are a retired couple living on social security.

Hubby’s work truck had to be repaired at the tune of $3,000. My kitchen faucet tore up too. So that had to be replaced. Now I only have a trickle of water coming into my sink. We’ve had floors that have been replace. Right now I have no flooring in my kitchen. It’s just been too much at once. God is good though!!!! ❤

Dear Tessie, I know exactly what you are going through now and before also. I will not go into all of my unrepaired problems but I just want to remind you not to let Anxiety try to rise up and pull you down. You took your time to tell me how bad Anxiety can get and what it can do. I did listen to You on everything you said and I also learned there are several different types of Anxiety that I never knew. Now l need to tell you and anyone that wants to know... The cousin to Anxiety is Stress and getting Overwhelmed from so much stress coming at you from every side and all at the same time...... I always heard it could make you have a stroke or heart attack but I did not know it could shut your body and front part of your brain down and the middle part of your brain gets frozen into a fight or flight mode. This is alot like what a severe Anxiety attack did to you that time. It takes a long time to come out of it and it takes a lot of hard work on the person that it happens to because you don't have the energy or thought process to know what to do. I'm bringing this up to you just in case Stress starts building up on you like it did me. I know that you understand what I'm saying so head it off before it builds up. I'm not sure how this reads to someone because a lot of my front brain is still frozen but coming back each day. I just don't want you to get overwhelmed with anything. I love you and miss you my sisterfriend and my others on here too. 💙🙏

Tess I so understand.. our car broke down to fix it is over 3000.. yep it will be sitting for a while. Hubby has his truck and it runs just fine. We will share it when I have doctor's appointments... My husbands medicine for just one went up to almost 180 dollars for one bottle for one month... All this happened this week... Yep when it rains it pours...

Please call around to different pharmacies to see if you can get a better price on the medication. Also, look them up online and see if they offer a low income discount. You may want to see if the Dr has samples or if there is another medicine that will work just as well. Blessings

I think just about every homeowner faces challenges along the way! When we bought our house we knew we needed a roof and a furnace of some sort because the house had no heat! But then we found out we needed a water heater and we had to put in a new dryer outlet .and we still have tons of things to fix that kind of have to wait for spring and summer to get here. Plus we have to put money away to do this as well.

Contact your States Attorney General and file a complaint. Also, contact your States Bar association and see who does probono work. If you are a senior, you can contact your States Dept on Aging for legal assistance. If your state requires contractors to have a license, contact the licensing department and lodge a complaint. Lastly, contact the BBB and lodge a complaint, and leave feedback on their website. I've helped several people over the years fill out forms. Always get the person's name and ticket number of any complaint you make, and note the date, time, and notes taken during any conversation. Blessings

My in-laws deal with well water also. They are retired so they don''t have a huge income, but my father-in-law is a penny pincher and he rather try and do things himself which is great, unless you don't know what the freak you are doing. Hire someone, but no, he won't until he breaks a lot of stuff from frustration. I help the best I can, but I don't and won't put up with his BS yelling and stuff, so I just pack up my family and tools and leave. Also it sucks because it looks like your pump is in the ground, my in-laws is in the basement. A little less money for those but still not anything to sneeze at.

Tessie, I can't believe how some people don't think and criticize you! Whether Tessie is economically disadvantaged or middle income having this to happen would take a boatload of finances to cover, which hurts the budget! Our family budget was diminished big time!I know my folks(lowest middle income)had to deal with! I had classmates that thought we were rich cause my Dad owned n operate his own business, haha Far from it!! Guess they just assumed!
I have lived in older mobile homes! But any home can be alot of work n money! Unless you are really wealthy, home and property repair is a hardship, and if you rent a place you pay for that in high rent, so get off your high horse people!

Another blessing is the bill was on the lower side of his estimate. Still a good chunk of change though. This was educational, Tessie. I see you have the solar to help with electricity and rain barrels as a water back up, but what do you have for a heat back up? Do you ever watch DIYfferent? They are youtubers who have flipped properties and are at the beginning of an old mobile home. They like that the old ones have the metal sides because I guess the new ones have vinyl. I am enjoying seeing all they do. This is the second mobile home they have done. It might be something you or your husband would enjoy watching just to see how they renovate and make them like new. Not fun to have a tough start to the year. Hope it only gets better!
