But then in that last split second, he loses that smile, and I think that is him realising he is now on his own. Have you ever seen Roman with a friend?
Also, noticed that on Roman's final scene, he was drinking a martini? That is Gerri's favorite drink and it indicates that deep down, Roman loves Gerri.

I really like how they shot the document signing + photoshoot with Matsson and co. - the angle makes it look like behind the scenes footage. Really makes you feel like an outsider witnessing the event from afar, which is what the kids are now. Cast out from their own empire.
And when the kids are fighting and arguing in other room with a transparent glass, it's like a callback from Shiv's eulogy: "We used to be the kids who played outside our dad's office." And ironically, they still are as they treat the company as their personal playground. Also, when they were in that room, the others were shocked to see Kendall was the one who raised his voice and screamed so loud to his younger siblings while Shiv and Rome looked confused and scared to him. And those people on that building who attended Logan's funeral wouldn't believe that was the same guy who delivered the best eulogy speech few days ago. There's actually a deleted scene where Kendall wants to jump to the water for commit suicide but the director cut it as it was Jeremy Strong's idea since he's a method actor, he likes to improvise.
Poor Kendall (yeah, I know he is a terrible human being like most Succession characters). What Logan did to him when he was a child was cruel: promising him the Empire and declaring him the rightful heir. Connor knew since a young age he wasn't gonna be the true successor as his father saw him as a bastard, even though he wasn't. His delusional disorder and the association with his looney mother destroyed his chances. But not Kendall. Kendall truly internalized that promise his father made, that he should inherit the Earth. And he lived with that promised now written in his soul. And to lose that, after basing so much of your self and identity in that empty promise from a broken man, is gonna be soul destroying. No wonder Jeremy Strong thinks this ends means the definite end for Kendall. This is a suicide waiting to happen. But that's the actor. The writers left a somewhat slightly open ending. He may learn to do something else, become a different man, but it's really doubtful. This is why nobody should be promised at that early and impresionable age such a crazy promise and mainting that empty promise throughout all his life. And when the time comes (the pilot of the show) for the coronation to happen just cancel the whole deal. Also Kendall was just as capable as Tom at being a CEO. I don't think either Roman nor Shiv had the makings or training of one. Kendall did. Tom had flaws, Kendall had flaws. It doesn't matter. Both of them could do that stupid job. It was just Logan being a mean and petty bastard to initiate the hunger games among his children, one last fight that ended of killing him- that's all
Kendall's biggest downfall is his ego. If he stops saying "Hey, I'm the rich kid, you should've listened to me" every fucking time, he would win. Same as Shiv, if she stops using her resting bitch face and stop contradicting to everyone, she would win. Rome also could win if he's way more serious. Connor out of the game since the beginning so he doesn't count. Techinically, everyone on this show is not good people (I'm gonna say Gerri is probably the sanest character) but Tom has something nobody have on this show: Humility. Yeah, he most of the time being a jerk to Greg and even bully him but he starts to change ever since Shiv's cheating to Nate on their own wedding day! He realizes he has to step his game to be accepted on Roys family. He's the only one who takes the cruise scandal seriously and even willingly to go to prison while none of the Roys want to (Honestly, who even want to go to prison anyway?) Both of Logan and Mattson see the potential on Tom and they both see him as the true CEO of Waystar. Technically, Mattson is the true successor of Logan as Logan sold his "soul" which is the company to him and Mattson needs someone who can take responsibility which is Tom.
@@margarethmichelina5146 Great analysis of the character. But Mattson choose Tom because he is ready to suck the biggest D.. too, as Shiv said. Mattson put him to test when he tells him at the restaurant how him and Shiv could and would go together, and Tom say nothing to defend his honor. It's for what this scene shows about relationship between Mattson and tom too, i think, he refuse the congratulations at the end. He sacrificed too much of his dignity as man and husband.
Eh I don't know if he was more capable. Perhaps he was farsighted enough to see that Waystar couldn't rely on protection or a market from one half of the US political spectrum, and needed to truly globalise. You could also see that as him not understanding "how the sausage is made", in terms of needing political protection and a connection with contemporary identity that was only possible through sucking up to one side of the US aisle, with globalisation and impartiality actually destroying their protection and their market.
Still unhinged how Roman's last scene ever is him drinking Gerri's favourite drink and smiling. When Shiv says “congratulations” to Tom and Tom says “oh no no,” it’s quietly brilliant. Tom has just won everything Shiv ever wanted (being CEO of the company), and so she treats it as though she is congratulating her victorious adversary. However, all Tom wanted from the start was for Shiv to love and accept him, and he has realized that he has lost that completely. While he has complete power in their relationship (you can hear the condescension in his voice and feel it in the way he extends his hand), he knows it’s a hollow victory.
I don't think he gives a damn if she loves him or not anymore, Shiv even asks before she boarded the plane if he wanted to talk about their relationship, and he shot her down completely. He's got all the attention he needs as CEO.
Also, throughout entire Season 4, Shiv is bitching to Tom for betrayed her for sold her and her brothers out about them to confront their father eventhough she told him she doesn't love him anymore! And she's still resenting him even until her dad died. You noticed that ever since Logan died, Tom is way more stricts and serious, not too much joking with Greg and barely smiles anymore? Even when the siblings and the others are celebrating for getting the Gojo Deal with Mattson after their trip from Norway, Tom is just looking cold and not too excited. He's also dedicated himself on the job and missed Logan's funeral.
Shiv is the most useless failure took birth from Logans sperm. Yeah all her brothers are mess but geez. Is she really Logans daughter or her mother have some affair behind Logans back.
It’s clear that the older two siblings are doomed to be in A: a cold love marriage of convenience and unspoken resentment, and B: forever being shut out of the one thing you’ve been almost programmed since childhood to want more than anything. But I see some comments believing that Roman is somehow ‘free’. I don’t know about that. Knowing Roman, the last of shot him presumably numbing this entire experience with alcohol is not a positive sign.
Heartbreaking ending but I love it! especially Kendall just walking towards the water and then just sitting down. It was like when he got closer to the rail he wanted to commit suicide but then he just turned around and sat on the bench like he knew that it was not the end of the world for him.
that feels a little literal though, no? Like, oh this guy will cope with alcohol so let's make his final scene with him drinking? Doesn't feel the writing style of the scriptwriters...
I think this is still not the end. I mean the series ended but not the story, remember Kendall made a deal to buy pierce. And now he is even more rich than ever( after more premium payed by gojo). Ge can come back again but this time with literally the only ethical media company. And can make his way up again.
I'd rather we got a prequel about a young Logan. What happened in his early business career that made him so cold and ruthless and yet an incredibly powerful man. What bridges did he have to burn, who's lives did he have to destroy along the way?
I find Roman's final scene at the bar really interesting as its so subtle. He smiles as he is 'free' from dad's company and is self aware of how pointless the whole thing has been. But then in that last split second, he loses that smile, and I think that is him realising he is now on his own. Have you ever seen Roman with a friend?

A f**king masterpiece...
Shiv is the youngest lol, i forget it myself sometimes with how they all act
Perfect ending. And the biggest loser is Logan. One generation only. That’s no legacy.
Nothing farther from perfect. It was completely awful.
@@apoloWND yep but very real. That’s how it goes with a petty family like that.
Not really, his last wish was sell waystar and it became true, he wanted his sons to make his own money

Truly a tragic, yet beautiful ending for the kids
#conhead
Heartbreaking ending but I love it! especially Kendall just walking towards the water and then just sitting down. It was like when he got closer to the rail he wanted to commit suicide but then he just turned around and sat on the bench like he knew that it was not the end of the world for him.
after everything he’s been through…
I think Roman holding a glass is an allusion to a lifetime of alcoholism as a coping mechanism to purposelessness
This is always how I read the scene
Yeah, he is going to dive hard into his vices
Also, noticed how he drinks martini which is Gerri's favorite drink?
that feels a little literal though, no? Like, oh this guy will cope with alcohol so let's make his final scene with him drinking? Doesn't feel the writing style of the scriptwriters...
Kendall has alot of time to see his kids now lol.
kids that he ironically can't see because Raya doesn't want the guy who brought mecken into power near them.
those are not even his kids lol
@@RafaelCabreraAzrael As much as I don't like Ken, I don't see how that factors into any of this
"I win."
-Logan Roy
He does win.
He "fucking wins"
Roman is a billionaire.
All Roy kids are
succession truly was tremendous. fuck. im never gonna be over this show, it makes me so nauseous.
The only the thing that Kendall inherited from his father was his "guardian dog".
still hurts
I think this is still not the end. I mean the series ended but not the story, remember Kendall made a deal to buy pierce. And now he is even more rich than ever( after more premium payed by gojo). Ge can come back again but this time with literally the only ethical media company. And can make his way up again.
@@anupamsharma8923 this is some copium bro..... kendall helped bring mencken to power.... in what world will he create an "ethical media company"
Roman had a happy ending. He never truly wanted it and now gets to live whatever life he wants with more money than he can spend.
He's alone and without purpose. This isn't a happy ending for him at all
@@frname7665 he's a multi-billionaire. He won.
@@lessthanthreemetal And alone and with no purpose and no family.
I would rather have billions without a purpose than the other way (unless the purpose is like founding a huge firm which is super rare)
no Gerri tho
Shiv sold her soul
As if any of them had a soul to start with 😅
Welcome to wall street
Sad ending, my poor Kendall 😢
Perfection
Matsson likening himself to Jesus is just the cherry on top
Ken lost his company, brother, sister, children, wife and his life.,,, I think his decision will be only one. ... so sad...
beautiful
Excellent show
THIS WAS FUCING AWESOME F
THERE IS A JUDAS IN THE ROOM
Tom and shiv still have a shot. They just have to respect each other now
So… they don’t have a shot
The baby will save their relationship
@@gmoney600 Another generation of Roys to screw up.
On the other hand, Shiv will probably a full time housewive with no jobs or she could find any other jobs in politic again.
@@gmoney600Logan’s children didn’t save his marriages. I don’t think they got a happy ending, especially Shiv.
I wanted the roys to win,but European keeps me happy
It started with Kendall and ended with Kendall
I don't understand Shiv. Just leave him and do your own thing. You got money, no?
So wanna see a season 5 even if it doesnt contain the siblings, but with tom greg and matsson
I just feel bad for roman that's all he's in all of us just a little but we all have a Roman hidden inside of us
Shiv- biggest girlfail of the century i stan 🎉
Question, what happens to Logan's estate? Does it all go to Marcia?
Didn’t Shiv and Tom sign a prenup?
How much anyone of them earned with the deal?
I'd love to know that.
They all earned a couple of billion. But it was always about power with them
he lost his father's legacy
Next sequel Kendal builds his empire he had to get backstabbed like this to become ruthless and trust nobody like his father
If they do this sequel it would be briiliant
Nope they shouldn't go ever for this idea. Let this be the perfect ending to a perfect show !
@@time7192I just want kendall to win 😭
I'd rather we got a prequel about a young Logan. What happened in his early business career that made him so cold and ruthless and yet an incredibly powerful man. What bridges did he have to burn, who's lives did he have to destroy along the way?
buddy as a man who is living comfort life, I want to tell you it's very hard for billionaires to have motivation to start from ground up with so cheap
I love how tom acquired shiv
Greg... Judas?
Satisfying ending to me because of how horrible shiv was and she’s gonna remain in hell the rest of her days on earth.
Shiv 🤮
Look how they butchered my boy
The ending is just terrible. Why ruin this?
What??? Did you even watch the show? It was a self fulfilling prophecy; the kids all sabotaged themselves
Are you the eldest boy ???
Ken should team up with Axelrod in the spinoff show Trillions to get revenge on his siblings....
