I made a little compilation in which I put the sounds of the different engines used in principle by the Scuderia Ferrari for their F1 cars in the last 20 years. You can hear the melodic V12, the screaming V10, the loud V8 and finally, yes, the 2014 V6 turbocharged engine, so you can finally hear the "sound of 2014" from my microphone. I made all the videos at Monza Circuit, in Italy.

V12 is first for me.
I agree.
Everytime I hear a V10 F1 car I get goosebumps
When F1 was F1...
The V10 sounds good however my favourite is the V6 . I know that it receives a lot of grief from nostalgic fans but I have to respect the power, efficiency and reliability that no other F1 engine has. It may not sound the best but we must look forward and the v10s are not coming back.
@@georgebidmead1200 do you think f1 fans care about reliability and efficiency? They only get to experience one thing, and that is the sound. While v10s and v12s might not be as fast, it's not something a spectator will notice, that will only notice the sound
@@thestarrun or a boner...
Childhood Memories..
I grew up with the v10 sound. Its the best sound in the World. And i think back then the races were more exciting
Not really, it’s the same as today just replace the cars with the 2004 cars and replace the dominant Mercedes to the dominant ferrari
I think its possible that we will go back to v8's or 10's. Everyone thinks not but we don't know.
Everytime I hear the v10 I remember Schumi😔
When Schumacher dominated every race, really exciting
@@bigmeatyhooks not true. He doesn't dominated every race.
I remember the v10s the most, but the v12 is probably one of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard.
The v12 sounds almost haunting on approach
It is.... i hear the V12 at Spa.... Alesi & Berger..... nothing can beat that sound....
"Bring back the f***ing V12s." -Sebastian Vettel, 2019 Russian GP
This is exactly why I came here
Because V12´s never broke and were so incredibly reliable lol. Back in the day they had an engine for each session, so that means the engine for the race was fitted for the race alone and even then they would pop like crazy.
As if v12 are reliable. Haha. Wtf.
it was just a nagging like a child. Vettel never drove in the formula series on v12, his maximum is v8

My god.... The V8 is underrated. The V12 sounds utterly amazing, particularly on the low-end of the torque band. And the V10 just sounds like it could launch that car into outer space. Absolutely amazing, wonderful video.

The way the high pitched noise is bouncing off the walls for the V8, V10 and V12 is absolutely amazing
V12 is beautiful orchestra, but the V10 is soooo iconic, it's something else, it's special, it's sound and the car shape are unmistakenably F1.
Sorry for this but this might just be the nostalgia speaking
@@Jtngetabettername ask anyone who has watched F1 at all before they brought the V6 engines in. That sound IS the heart of F1 and the moment anyone hears it 99% of them instantly recognise it as an F1 car sound. That is not nostalgia.
I like the V12's shape the most: minimalistic & harmonic.
@@bemused3865 In 20 years people will be saying the exact same thing about the V6´s hybrids. So yeah, it´s nostalgia. Just like when they brought the V8´s I remember seeing the same type of comments, how the V12´s and V10´s were so much better and the cars looked so much better in the 80´s and yada yada yada.
@@The_Curious_Cat nope it's not just nostalgia. It's also something that has to do with the propagation of sound and our hearing capabilities. I'll have to find back that study but the v10 sound has a special tone that pleases the ear. So yeap there's nostalgia, but there's also some acoustic stuff with the v10

V10 and v12... V8 is meh, still gets away but not the best. V6..... V6? What's that? Lol
A V10 screaming at 19,000RPM passing in front of you then downshifting at the end of the straight line.
That I call it orgasmic and that is how an F1 sounds like.
I was still a young boy when i witnessed the full glory of these V10's at monaco in 2002.
I still cherish those fond memories.
But remember my dad said a year later at Le mans that he missed the sounds of the 787B rotary. And we both hated the Audi turbo(Gasoline) sound.
Luckily there were still some Judd powered screamers.
All good things come to an end..... Eventually.
1barnet1 the screamers time is over. i for one welcome the lower tone of these new engines. although they could be louder. but i don't complain. I'd love to see different manufacturers have different engine layouts. more cylinders = less displacement kind of ruling. and derestrict aero and bring back refueling.
Having refueling back again would be great
Carlos Leon
I agree on the engine layout. But they have a max fuel flow rate limiting power output. Just leave that in place limit the power units to keep costs down and let the teams make what they want.
Current Aero is looking fine. (For the first time in a LONG time)
Don't mind the lack off Refueling. It makes stops faster and strategies more flexible.
What i hate is the maximum starting fuel of 105 kg. We already have a max flowrate. no need to restrict further beyond that.
Exactly give this men an award please!
Wooow I love V 12 engine !!! Sounds like a violin !!!
We want this sound back again !!!
Great video !!!!!
Chills!!! Especially from the V10 which remind me so much of the Schumacher days. Miss those days!
I started following F1 races in 2019 so the V6 doesn't annoy me as much as it does to others, but damn do you feel the sheer enthusiasm of those V10 and V12 roaring. It's joyful and spicy. The V6 doesn't hold any of that power.
You should have seen the 2001, 2002. That was symphony
The V10 are my favourites for pure naturally aspirated sound. However, I remember Nigel Mansell in the 1.5L V6 Williams/Honda turbo with the boost turned right up for qualifying and close to 1500 brake. That was something to behold.
@@RichardASK The legendary Red 5, that was a scary monster. Piquet won that year, his partner.
I stood against a barrier in 2005 from the track and had Alonso fly by in his renault V10 and my ears were ringing for days from that race.... it was like being front and center at an Iron maiden concert. It was fucking awesome.... You could feel the sound from the raw power.... I also saw them in 2010 and 2012 during the V8 era... awesome too but not as much as V10. V6 is terrible to me...

The 412 T2 was in my opinion the best F1 that Ferrari ever produced. I still get the chill when I hear the sound of it!
Michael Schumacher + V10 Ferrari = F1 Heaven
God I miss those days...
Schumi is a bit over rated. Hakkinen was better, even schumi feared him
I don't miss the V10s for Schumacher. Because that was another era of dominance. And dominance by a team in any sport gets old fast. I miss the V10s for the sound and overall quality of the racing.
@@Seb-Storm Hakkinen always won in OP cars, the 98 and 99 McLaren were way better than the Ferrari of those years, in 98 Schumacher was absolutely amazing and in 99 Hakkinen and McLaren made mistakes that's why Irvine could catch up, It's Hakkinen who is overrated, not Michael
@@deeptenduganguly8530 well, adk people who hakkinen is and no one will know but ask who schumi is and everyone will know. During raikkonen era McLaren cars had reliability issues so thus having schumi won and then on several races schumi had team preference (obviously he is pilot #1) but was taken to another level where the team almost treated pilot #2 like trash. That's why he won more championships, no real competition and his team was way to biased. I mean yeah he drives good (even better than me) but he is really over-rated too. Again look at interviews and see for yourself schumi feared and respected hakkinen
yeah wasnt it great when there f1 was dominated by a cheater with no respect for other drivers...
Interesting to me that there's a pretty even split between the V10 faves and the V12 faves. It's like brunette vs blonde....
But everyone agrees the v6 is the ugly stepsister.
Only ugly because it's the redhead that can do so much more compared to the others and the other sisters are petty about it.

3:38 Gods chariot approaching you 😦
It’s a good thing God has style
I know I'm late to the party, but I've been obsessed with this video, and I thought I'd give a rundown of how these exhaust notes differ and why we might like certain ones over others.
Musically speaking there are two distinct notes that make up each engine sound. They are separated by a given interval depending on which engine you hear. Outside of F1, these engine configurations still adhere to these notes, just usually at a drastically lower RPM, so they don't sound as high.
Here is the breakdown:
V6- Perfect 5th - C to G on the piano
V8- Perfect octave (2 octaves apart, to be specific) - C to C on the piano
V10- Major 10th - C to E on the piano (The E used is a full octave higher than the one just above the C you start at)
V12- Perfect 5th - C to G on the piano (though an octave higher than current era V6 hybrids due to current RPM restrictions)
I believe that most people tend to gravitate towards the V10 and V12 sounds (complete speculation, of course). The reason for this is likely because, in combination with the gloriously high revving engines of years past, those two engine configurations had extremely pleasing exhaust note intervals to listen to. It's the same reason we get chills when humans sing together in perfect harmony. Our ears like the frequency rub created by beautiful intervals like major 3rds (10ths) and perfect 5ths. I think it goes without saying that, although the current engines also create a perfect 5th, many criticize the sound due to it's muffled nature, lower RPM and overall lower volume. The current engines have grown on me a bit, but I still can't help but wish we still had the jaw-dropping harmony of that V10, my personal favorite.
Curious to hear if anybody prefers the V8? Musically speaking, it's less interesting by definition, but that thing still screamed! All down to personal preference.
great comment. i heard the v8s and on the TV cameras it was very tame compared to the v10 f1 cars but in person you hear the deep base from both the 2006-2008 and 2009-2013 f1 cars and it sounds very vulgar, not as violent as the screaming v10s or as melodus as the v10s but it still rips your soul out as it flys by. it isn't pleasing to hear, but thats probably due to the incredibly competitve engine sounds the v10 and v12 produced.
I want to bookmark this comment.
One of the reason never really like 4/8 cylinder sound as much as 6/12/5/10 cylinder engines. I love the chords note clash the engine produces as opposed to 4 or 8 cylinders perfect octave it produces which sounds dull. Also one reason why more the cylinders the better the sound is because each cylinder acts essentially like a sound oscillator, the more oscillators in unison, the phatter and more “full” the sound
I really like the V8 sound!
V8 all day. For me, the sounds v10s and 12s make are obnoxious and overdone. Like theyre trying to overachieve.
*V10: here comes the infantry!*
v6: here comes a crying infant

New v6s sound better than 2014. We have 110kg of fuel to burn over 100, so higher revving can be used.

That high pitch V10 battlecry in the distance when it's coming, so good
The down shifts on the v12... filthy. Love it.
I consider myself extremely lucky and privileged to have grown-up with those lovely sounds of the V12 and the almighty V10.
Really good video, brought back so many good memories!!!
+iamjeffness Thanks!
Yeah. I'm 20 and when I was kid I remember the screaming V10 engines. They were so awesome that you knew that those Cars weren't normal. Now are a meh like almost everything those days. It is like a bunch of non-car guys and non-racing lovers took the wheel from every single racing championship and crashed it into a wall to make non-car freaks, and non-motorsports fans happy.
Well the sound is shit, but the engines themselves are monsters. They are reaching over 370 kph these days, while in 2007 or before that they struggled to reach 330. The aerodynamics are a bit worse today due to rules, but the turbo and electric motor make this cars quite a handful to drive.
Fici hmm, with DRS and other gizmo's to lower the rear wing the cars of today are faster, in theory. Do remember that Renault had a 900hp V10 engine in the mid-90s.
Imagine having that engine with the perks and aero-developments of today... So it is kinda comparing apples and oranges IMO

Ludie Noviandra the fact is v6 is the slowest
Twinkle Baby but for symphonic sound the V10 was just sublime even the V12 didn't sound as good.
My God! How beautiful were the sounds of the V12,V10 and V8…
Ogni tanto lo riascolto, terapia musicale 😍
4:30 beautiful
That moment when you see a TH-cam channel you watch in a completely unrelated video
V10
5:08 Heaven

I made a little compilation in which I put the sounds of the different engines used in principle by the Scuderia Ferrari for their F1 cars in the last 20 years. You can hear the melodic V12, the screaming V10, the loud V8 and finally, yes, yes, the "vacuum cleaner" (as many people call it) 2014 V6 turbocharged engine, so you can finally hear the "sound of 2014" from my microphone. I made all the videos at Monza Circuit, in Italy.
#scuderiaferrari #f1 #ferrari #ferrarif14t #ferrarif1
boyssssssss
Thank You!
***** For the F2005 I realized immediately that it was wrong, but the video was already uploaded my mistake.
For the F2007/2008 I still don't undersand which one is because a few years ago I uploaded a video of the same car and in the title I wrote "F2008" after a few hours I received a lot of comments in which they underlined the car was the F2007 because of it's livery. Ok right. What I don't get is why the private owners of this F1 cars should drive the cars with the specs of the presentation. I mean they should drive and "own" the car as it was in the last races of the season.
The F2008 when it was show to the world it was almost the same as the F2007 which took part in the last races of the 2007 season. But the F2008 should have the fin on the bonnet (since there was a fin on it at the end of the 2008 season). Very doubtful... :/
About the livery I always have an attitude a bit of no confidence, see the F150 Italia now have the 2014 livery, ok it's for marketing reasons but still have a different livery. (just my suppositions)
Anyway thanks for the comment!! :D
well done
Check out our youtube YOLO
i love the V8, V10 and V12, i think they sound best when on aproach and upchanging, that noise is insane, best example here i think is the fly-by at 5:30
F1 V10. Sound of my childhood. Missing those Sunday afternoons with my dad.
Everyone's like "Yeah, V10"
I'm like "Dude, that N/A V12 will be my next ringtone"
dn ǝpᴉsuʍop that v12 sounds scary as shit coming from a distance 😂😂😂 demoninc noise 5:28
Fax for me v12 sounds better than v10
Yeah v12 sounds way better
The V12 & that divine sound just cannot be compared to anything else. It sounds like a freak of nature from the heavens angry at you. I would love to hear something that special at least once in this lifetime.
Imho V8 is better for me. Like the 2009 Sauber F1 and the 2009 ING Renault R29. All personal opinion.
you = 0:42
the guy she tells you not to worry about = 0:17

00:14 your weight.
@@rogerwilco3854 Wtf lmao
@@michaelschumacher3701 I must have been drunk while writing that.
We've been to many F1 races over the past 35 years. Those V12s had the best exhaust note, but you could feel the V8 noise through your body.
But none of them can compare to the wonderful noises of a Mazda 787B!
V10 sounds refined and like music! Just love it
V10 is how I will always remember F1... Such an iconic sound 3:52
V12: Glorious
V10: Painfully loud
V8: Amazing
V6: meh
Jason
I think they have done it already xP
Despite the v10 engines being painfully loud, they do resemble F1's best era. In my opinion, they resemble the F1's true spirit.
V8:Amazing but only the old generation, 2006-2013 are awful than actual v6's
Jason unfortunately we will see soon that will be the successor to the 458 italia
They were taking it easy with the V12 car. Early braking...
That’s how I discovered F1. That engine. Like a melody... Gets into your chest. That particular smell... Nostalgia nostalgia nostalgia...
I was in Monza in 1989. At that time Ferrari was the only manufacturer besides Lamborghini with a V12. The conclusion was clear. You could hear the V12 screaming from afar, heartbreaking and in one pitch - the Honda V10 didn't stand a chance either. You could just hear when a Ferrari came. I will never forget that. Hence V12 forever !!!
Please hear the difference between a V12 and a V10 of the same period (and this is important, same period!):

At that time the regulations were 3.5 liters,
number of cylinders did not matter.
Ferrari decided to develop a 12 cylinder, which in principle had to make more revolutions than the 10 cylinder to gain the same power. First the 10 cylinder had advantages, especially in low revolutions, but later on the 12 cylinder had more and more power and about 2000rpm more rotation speed.
Therefore you could hear from afar when a 12 cylinder came, it was a really high screaming.
Later on 12cylinder became forbidden, 10 cylinders were maximum now.
In the meantime, these later 10 cylinder engines achieved similar revolutions as the old 12 cylinders 5 years before, so they sound similarly high-pitched. But if there still had been 12 cylinders, due to their design, they would always scream much higher than the 10 cylinders - so my heart will always beat for the 12 cylinders ...
0:19 I fucking smiled after that beautiful sound
so did I
like "Coool F1 is back" or "Hakkinnen, in the McLaren is going to pass under the bridge too"
Spooky Alien V12
That V-12 sounds like a beast from the bowels of hell is on it's way to take your soul. Absolutely wicked sound.
It eats like one too
Que hermoso sonido. Te queda grabado en la lejanía, como que el sonido se queda en la pista!😊
I wish I could go back in time 20 years and watch a Grand Prix live.
1:41 v6: Stunning Vacuum Cleaner
2:40 v8: Screamy, pretty ok
3:51 v10: The sound of a screaming thousand elephants
5:21 v12: A thousand panicked screaming mamoths chased by a pack of T-Rexes
That V12 just rips through your soul. It’s like the Shang Tsung of engines.
V10's were the best sounding by far, those things at full noise was absolute music
