I am 71 years old and in the time I have watched racing in person, there is NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING that compares to a V12 engine at full song on the track. I can remember, as if it were yesterday the sound of 2 Ferrari Tests Rosa's and a Maserati running withing a few feet of each other, full on throttle at full speed. There are simply few machines racing today that can ever match this sound! Thanks for this!
Living in close proximity to both Watkins Glen and Montreal, we started going to F1 races back in the mid 70's and had the good fortune to see and hear these amazing creations in full anger when they were state of the art! Hanging around in the garage on Saturday night at Watkins Glen was a highlight of the weekend. Everything was open back then and there were always drivers and team members to chat with. Standing by the guardrail during practice and the race, it was a real thrill to see, hear, feel and smell the cars scream by. So glad we had the chance to experience this. It was a different time. Thanks for the video.
This takes me back to my childhood watching these machines racing around Adelaide, Australia. The sound of them flying down Brabham Straight at full noise was something to behold.
What sweet sounds, I love to listen to this first thing in the morning! Wish I had one in my garage that I could just start and rev a few times a week.
My first race was 198...7? i was 10 YO, my dad took me to the Long beach GP...the sounds of those engines absolutely blew me away as they flew by. I was hooked...since since them i have been an ardent F1 fan. The sound of the motor, that's what does it for me man.
The last F1 race at Long Beach was 1983. 1987 was a CART IndyCar race at Long Beach. You must have gone earlier than '87 if it was an F1 race. I went to the inaugural Long Beach F5000 race in '75, the first F1 race in '76, and went to every F1 race there except '81. Then I went to almost every CART race there.
I remember being at Watkins Glen in the late 70’s listening to the songs of so many 12 cylinder engines (Ferrari, Alfa, Maserati, Matra, I might have left one out), and of course the v8 Cosworth. Driven by hand, too.
I remember watching the Ferrari V12s at silverstone back in the early 90’s at a time when everyone else had gone to v10s (or was it v8’s?). You could hear the Ferrari v12 a mile off, the noise was incredible. When F1 was F1
