I went to my first Grand Prix in 99, in Austria, and wondered why everyone had industrial hearing protection with them. I assumed it was for the air show that preceeded the race, but when the first car hurtled past me with it's engine screaming and I felt the pressure waves hit my chest I realised that I'd seriously underestimated the volume of a race car's engine
I wasn't born back then so I didn't hear them lol! Note: I love F1 so much and I'm only a 11 yr old kid
100% I remember going to the 2000 Australian GP on the sunday and there was Sunday practice. People were chilling in the morning my dad put ear butts in my ear, 'I was like why? Trust me you'll thank me latter. I was like 😂 okay. People were looking at me weirdly then out of nowhere screaming set of v10 F1 cats come hurtling towards us into turn 3 people were scrambling and going wtf? Didn't check the program schedule. Granted they were going half throttle. But you could hear them over 25+ KMs away especially in windy conditions.
Yeah when those V10 screaming sound waves got you chest the amount of adrenaline and rush from just being there never ever felt like that
How's your ears.
I dont watch f1 but nascar the past 2 years has been LOUD it shakes the whole earth hearing 40 cars fly past at 190mph
Edit: Online it says 100 decibels aka the sound of a lawn mower..... no way absolutely not a chance i went to a slower race last night and my ears are still ringing, i was sitting in row 40 of grandstands... i'd say if you were in the 1st row 140db-ish
The noise of the V10 is what i associate with F1 and my childhood.
For me F1 peaked in the v10 era. The cars, the sound, the drivers. I still love f1, but for me it felt so much more exciting back then.
Not to be blunt, but that's called nostalgia
This is how you know you're getting old. When you start to truly believe things in the past were better.
@@bort- I don´t know, some things are simply that good, of course that it depends on the personal taste. For me, in 20, 30, 40 years from now the 2012 season will be remembered as one of the bests of F1 history. And 2021 was just as good.
Not the drivers. But the cars did
For me it's the 80-90's for a similar reason.
V10s were just brutal, as a retired photographer, my favorite era
I love v 10 sound, best f1 engine sound ever
V10 sounds amazing 👍 F1 will never be the same without it
Insanely hot 🥵💦😍
66 90 91 and 2005
The late V10 are my favourite but I do love all the V12s, V10s and the brilliant V8s. I adore the old V6 and BMW F1 turbo engines. Today's sounds like a old video game console sound.
Early 90's was the best with all the different engine configurations running at the same time which meant they all sounded and looked very different from one and other instead of roughly the same, my personal favourite noise was the V12 Ferrari's which sounded almost symphonic and used to have a beautiful wailing scream.
Best sounding: V10
Best performance: V6 Turbo Hybrid
Best sound/performance: V8 era!
Very True indeed
agreed, loved the v8 eras versatility.
The V10 cars were faster than the V8’s tho
@@theread3480 cuz they were W I D D E R
best sounding : v6 turbo hybrid****
The V8 engines were my favourite
Plus blown diffuser
@@judyazere9901 nope
You have a different opinion, nice bro
The V10s of the 2004 era is the best!
All engines sound superb when they're being pushed hard, but it's those shrieking 20,000rpm V-10s [5:20 etc.] that send shivers down my spine! 😁
V10 engine, a marvel of engineering precision and raw power. As it roars to life, the air vibrates with its symphony
I love them all, each one sounds awesome, just in different ways.
I love the sound of the Cosworth DFV, but my favorite sounding F1 engines are the V10s of the early and mid 2000s. It sounds great, unlike anything else (it's simply so synonymous with F1, at least for me, growing up in the era), plus the cars in my opinion looked fantastic. But so did the pre-2009 cars with V8s. I love those modern V8 sounds too, and honestly, I got used to the V6 Turbo Hybrids too, I think they sound very good too.
v6 are a total junk. good only for who don't understand nothing about how a race car have to "sound"
Yeah, v10 v12 sound great, but did you watch such footages from the 60's? What a view! Amazing stuff!!
1999 - 2005 (V10)
I know this is about the engines but I find it absolutely insane to see how little safety equipment Fangio had in that footage. Just goes to show hoe much things changed and how much those drivers really were gutsy to do what they did back in the day
when the camera faced him I wished he had a cigarette hanging
@@standopowah So, cars that had a top speed of 180mph and could do 0-60mph in four seconds were "not fast enough to need much safety"? And that is for the very first F1 cars in 1950, the one driven by Fangio in that video was outputting 50 more horsepower, and could likely approach 200mph.
@@standopowah Sure they did. There's an interview with Nelson Piquet where he says the cars in the late 50s were just about as fast in the big straights as the cars he was driving in the mid-80s.
The big difference between them was how fast the more modern cars were in the turns. Because of the tyres being much wider and the cars having more downforce, 80s cars could be sometimes even twice as fast as the old cars when turning. That explains why lap times were cut so drastically in the 70s and 80s.
Also, the biggest reason for pilot deaths in F1 throughout the 50s, 60s, and even early 70s, was lack of a seat belt. When you crashed, you were 95% likely to be thrown out of the car, and that reduced survivability dramatically.
If you check the stats, F1 pilot deaths were reduced dramatically when seat belts were introduced.
@@standopowah Sounds insane, doesn't it?
@@standopowah Many drivers actually didn't want seatbelts, since they preferred being thrown from the car, rather than staying in a burning wreck (the cars had huge fuel tanks, which were usually placed close or even around the cockpit). The risk was so high that they had the mentality of "I have a bigger chance of surviving when I am thrown out of the car".
As for the speeds, many tracks at the time had very long straights, so yes, the cars were hitting 300 kph, even in the 50s.
The reason many of them didn't care much for safety was likely the fact they experienced World War II just a few years prior, many of them as soldiers. Having a small chance of dying in your race car was certainly better than being shot at. Plus, they didn't have the experience of vehicle safety. Seatbelts weren't invented until like the 1950s. Vehicle safety just wasn't a thing back then. They didn't feel the danger as much as we would feel it now, not being in a war and knowing all the different safety features.
I loved the typical 2005 sound, nowadays F1 sounds castrated
1999- 2013 were my F1 with the V10s and V8.
Has to be the 90s-2000s v10
Can't wait for the single cylinder versions in 20yrs time 🤨
So sad the sounds of today.
1999 - 2005 peak sounds
This is a great video. Thanks for posting. 2005 V10 is without a doubt the best in this video.
Those v10 😍😍😍😍
2000s V10s definitely the best. 80s V6 Turbos are sick too.
I like the way you chose to illustrate an f1 v12 with the mp4/4 (v6 turbo) on your miniature👌😎
WOW ! I miss the V - 10 and V - 12 .
i feel like many poeple forget about the v8 cosworth dfv engines of the 70s, they sounded great. they are somewhat similar to the 80s v6s and the v6s of today, but sound more raw and oldschool.
The V8 Cosworths definitely are one of the greatest engine's ever in F1 👍🙏
Die wirkliche F1 Legende ist der 3l V10. Da steckt noch richtig Sound drin. 18/19/20000 Rpm, das ist Power. 🫨Dieses hochfrequente schreien des Motors beim vorbeifahren. NnnniiiIIIIIJAUUuuuuu. 🤤
V10❤
V10❤❤❤
Excelente👏👏
best sound : v10
best seasons :v12, flat12
best performance v6 hybrid
My Favourite is the V10.
Best Engine Era was the V10 from 1996-2005
My favorite v10
Hasta el 2013 esos autos rugían como una fiera, hermosos sonidos... a partir del 2014 la decadencia, sin ese sonido ya no emociona tanto la F1
That intro with EPIC V10 SOUNDS OMG 🥵💦😍
I was in brisbane in the early 2000s and they were setting up there and you could hear the cars the whole way round. At one point they got close to the road and the SOUND!! They were only coasting but oml
F1 = V10!!
So I watched this on my phone while my wife was watching tv. She got cross and and asked me to turn down the volume when the early V10s started.
So that’s my favourite.
Yes V10's are definitely my favorite
But I think the first two are underrated, one almost sounds like a NASCAR at speed and one sounds like a modern supercar lol
Soundwise the V10 era. No doubt about it. Driverwise, when Fangio dominated the sport. A man trying to drive a bullet with a helmet and nothing else more.
80's V6 Turbo were the best. And also one of the most powerful, sometimes beating 1200hp.
The clip of the 1966 V8 is actually a scene from the movie Grand Prix. While there was some footage in the film of actual F1 cars, the car in this shot is a F3 car dressed up to look like a F1. Still, it sounds right so a real F1 V8 sound may have been overdubbed.
I can see people's point about the V10, but there's some good stuff going on sonically with the V6, it has a little bit of jet engine in it, along with hearing more of what the turbo and engine are doing than than say the sawmill scream of the v12 on an exit.
@5:58 KIMI!!!! best sound of F1
Hehe. The guy with Ferrari cap and a Nokia 3310 recording the sound!😅
V10 the best sound but i love v8 as well and the v6 turbo sound in the sf70h and sf71h, the rdb14 and the w09!
1:40 the engine was screaming and it was amazing
I sub your channel, ciao Fabrizio
Thanks for sharing, ciao Fabrizio
Missing the most succesful engine of the lot. Ford Cosworth DFV. V8 engine in the late 60s in to the 1980's.
I used to watch f1 back when they had real engines v12 , v10 , even v8s but these v6 engines sound like my lawn mower , alot of people were fans for one of the reasons of the sound they made !!
I still think that the 20,000 RPM V8 engines were the peak! While I love the V10’s and V12’s, it is the shriek of 20,000 RPM that give me wood! Although I’ve always loved the V12 and V10’s, nothing SCREAMS like 20,000 RPM!!!
I'm quite sure the first engine you've listed is a Lancia V8 not a V12. The Lancia D50 was the first car in formula 1 to use a V8 and to be used as a stress member on the chassis. Even Cosworth used that design for the development of the DFV, and that's word of mouth from Keith Duckworth
That 1973 V12 is amazing.
en limitant les régimes moteurs à 15 mille tours minutes , ils ont cassé la magie sonore
From now on I'll also stick myself to the race track with superglue!! I want the V10 back!!!
IF I have ANY spare money I will book the cheapest hotell and go watch these angry beasts.
Oooops
Seems I set myself a goal. Just to hear them once live .....
Engine sound V10 the best forever 👍
V8’s definitely my favourite
V10の時代に青春を生きたかった
There's nothing qite like a V10 or V12 F1 engine from the late 90s or early noughtys.
1:48 weeee coming through! lol
5:50...my ears during a mosquito swarm in the evenings.
The best sounds for me are the V12's from like 2005. My favorite, however, is still the V8's from 1966. That clip was taken from the movie Grand Prix, staring James Garner.
I have some good footage of 2021 engine sounds
the 1995 ferrari 412 v12 is the single most insane sounding engine in history, it shrieked even higher than the 2004-5 v10s, but not as harshly, it was almost symphonic. other than that one, the 90s v10s are a little bit more pleasant than the 2000s ones, but less brutal. it goes without saying that an f1 engine shouldn't have less than 8 cylinders, political activism has no place in sports
'More, MORE POWER!!' Max Zorin
0:37 this looks like some ancient Forza Cinematic Replays
V6: excuse me sir
V8: please, move!
V10: *GET OUT OF THE WAY DUDE!!*
Idk how i will describe v12 tho… 😂
it's so sad i only heard the v6 sound
I miss the true sound of F1
FW14 b William Renault V10 around Brands Hatch totally epic music 🎵🎵🎵
V10 by far the best noise ever
The 50s v12 sounded amazing even with the crapy recorder they had
Bring back v10's
V10 rules
I love V10 and V12 Honda
And V10 Mercedez
3:10 1990 all were 3.5L
The best years of modern F1... sound wise
F1 today is working toward super stealthy nuclear submarine-propulsion systems. The fans will also go into stealth mode.
nos primeiros segundos dá pra notar a diferença absurda que é de ver na tv, pra ter a noção do quão rápido é os carros de formula 1 na pista hahahaahahaaaaaa
The first clip is Fangio driving the Lancia D50 (cars taken over by and campaigned by Ferrari in 1956). It was a V-8, not a V-12.
De chico me encantaba la F1 cuando cambiaron a V6 perdí el interés ni loco voy a ver una carrera de esas
Feel faster or go faster, is it fun?
Not sure where to comment and i don't know how this copyright strikes work, hope you're alright
NAのV10サウンド、最高!
V10 of 2005 is the sound of the demon.
les 15 premières secondes AAARRRGGGHHH
2005 is the best. Holy shit the cars were fucking fast!!!!
Please bring back the 2005 v10s
Comment for the algorithm
I can understand not including the 16-cylinder due to low numbers raced. But it's inconsolable not to sample the four-bangers- BMW. Not F1, but Indy 500 engines Meyer-Drake, and Offenhauser would have been nice
V6 turbo i like best n the turque weight for a car the sound is whole sounds like its working reaally well hehe Renault engine !
What is that ferrari Fangio is driving in -57?
As powerful as the newest gens are, they feel so gimped
Why did the FIA move away from the high rpm screamers from the early 2000's?
For my V10
The McLaren of the thumbnail had a v6 turbo
