I saw part 1 and 2 of this video many times and always learn something new. I'm bringing back to life an old trane voyager 15Tr, the heat exchanger tubes were cracked, the electronics and big transformer were removed. I replaced the tubes, clean and paint rusty parts, also i've made an old school relays circuit and, thanks to this videos, i've found wich ignition board should i need. This week is the deadline of this project to me and I'm very thankful with you. If you are wondering why someone could make such a job the answer is that i'm in Argentina and there is no genuine Trane parts and a new one rooftop is out of my customer budget now. Again, thank you sooo much. Regards from Argentina.
ALSO...get yourself a copy of the Trane Combustion Pamphlet. You can find it and download it in the HVAC-Talk Pro section under "Pro's Forum Commercial." You can tell that the illustrator has never actually seen one of these, but the textual info is great. It also recommends my setting of 7" of inlet pressure from the regulator to the gas valve.
also, the 4 digit number (normally 4 digits) that's at the item list/part location is a short code for the part when you're ordering parts btw. trane specific.
Here is a service note on the combustion blower Voyager setup Too high of an inlet gas pressure will keep the valve from opening. The telltale is the gas valve makes a chattering noise as it tries to open the valve. I recently found a gas regulator set to 32" WC, which is far too much pressure going into the valve. Years ago, I started setting the regulators to the middle of the inlet pressure range (7") and this has worked very well. Be aware that the Maxitrol regulators have a limited service life, unlike the more expensive regulators such as the Itron. If you have a doubt about a Maxi, replace it. One additional tip: the negative pressure gas valve is the very last thing you should consider as a causal factor of a service call. Unlike other positive pressure setups, this is not a "first thing." They almost never need to be adjusted. Almost.
Art Houston this is helpful, I had a no heat call and when I got on the roof I heard a chattering noise from the gas valve. I wasn’t to sure if that was the switch chattering trying to open or not
I had new construction job. Went to fire up the furnaces. Flames were woofing. Check the pressure inlet and it spun my manometer trashing it. Gas pressure was supposed to be 4psi and it was 40psi. It hammered the 3 regulators on site. They added another regulator to the gas pipe and got it down to 4psi.Furnaces were still woofing. I told the plumber to change the regulators that got hit with 40psi. Big pissing match. I told him I would buy the smallest regulator and if it fixed the problem on the circuit he would have to pay me for the valve and an extra $100. He said no. He replaced that regulator and everything on that circuit worked fine. He changed the other 2 and didn’t want to talk to me anymore lol.
Has anybody ever heard a squealing kinda of noise from the trane voyagers? Had an issue I fixed with the help of this video. But another one identical to it has a squealing noise instead of the whooshing noise like the first call and the video show. Gas pressure was off on the manifold side. I adjusted to -.30 but sound didn’t stop. Only made it slightly better.
Great video thanks. I have a Trane that’s giving me 2 blinks and it won’t fire, I replaced the combustion fan motor and I suspect the IGN board is also defective. The unit is 15 years old should I replace all the safeties and the valve as well?
Nice video Quick question - Similar to the line diagram you drew for the prw-mixed burner, can you please upload a line diagram for what happens once the pre-mixed air enters the heat exchanger ? How this particular heat exchanger works ? And why trane have this costly drum and tube heat exchanger while industry uses simple tube heat exchanger ?

Check the primary hi limit safety (bottom right corner of heat exchanger) & Secondary hi limit safety in the blower section, also make sure the hot surface igniter is working (glowing)
Is that natural gas or propane setting? Also, I have a unit with cracks in the heat exchanger and the burner wont light, is that difference in pressure from cracks causing that issue probable?
How important is the pre gas screen that is before burner screen? I came across unit thats coughing and turning off because it cant detect flame. I took it apart and found the pre screen missing.

If I recall some of those gas valve Trane shipped them and the adjustment port was sealed

How do you replace the inside screen plate?
If the burner plate is already warpped will that cause the woofing sound?
