    I learned very early in my light commercial career to leave those screws alone and replace that igniter exactly the way you did.

    On the RTRM board, two flashes indicates that the unit is in alarm. And the two flash on the ignition module would be ignition failure. I have noticed that not all Trane Precedent/Voyager units have the diagnostic light list for the ignition module. And I always love how the ignitor comes with new screws, clip, and gasket, but you can NEVER get those screws out! 🤣

    1:18 "Being somewhat familiar with these Tranes..."
    Thinking back on all the retail warehouse sites I've serviced with these units, I suspect that your statement was followed by thoughts of shattered ignitors and locked up/broken screws.
    But hey, at least the larger transformer in the corner didn't burst into a ball of fire this time ...or you didn't cross-thread a bolt while replacing the inducer ...or the idle pulley wasn't broken off ...or that nightmare of a heat exchanger wasn't cracked ...god I don't miss dealing with those units. Give me a Lennox L-Series over that or a York any day.

      I have a question what is it inside the burner tube I see some units have them ceramic type of things when burners come on they glow cherry red?

    • @EverythingHVACR
      @EverythingHVACR 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xraybravo7180I believe they are called turbulators, not to answer for the curious guy but this one he is working on is a negative pressure gas valve that do not have those on the inlet but do sometimes on the outlet side. Typically see those on the regular style burners.

    • @xraybravo7180

      @@EverythingHVACR OK thanks I never red about the turbulators before where can I can get some info on them how they work and when they are needed ?

    • @EverythingHVACR
      @EverythingHVACR 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xraybravo7180 the manufacturer puts them in not something installed after the fact. I would say lean on manufacturer (trane) or Google is a good option for everything.

      Since I'm new into refrigeration let me ask you this have you fixed a big hissing leak on a small cook line reach in cooler that has black coated heat craft evaporator, I have cleaned the U bend itself from paint, with low heat as I was trying to heat up the joint the rest of the paint would catch fire and cause all kinds of smoke so I stopped and opted to replace the whole evaporator and also put a new internal equalizing expansion valve however I found there is no service port at the evaporator outlet to adjust the superheat. This is a rack unit one condenser feeds three evaporator and each has its own temp control with soleniod valve . I dont know why the existing txv does not have service port at the evaporator to adjust superheat if needed or do you think the txv already come in pre Dialed in. Any input I would really appreciate it.

    Had an old timer teach me that if that specific igniter amps under 3 before ignition it's ready to replace.

    Those igniters are very fragile. I broke one taking it out of the styrofoam. I get another and bumped my arm on the panel and dropped it. Third one was a charm. Stay safe.

      The newer ones are a little more tougher but still probably don’t want to push your luck with them too, other thing I would like to point out too is most outdoor package units or rooftop units don’t have hot surface ignition, just only spark ignition, I guess the reason why this model has HSI, is probably because the combustion chamber is more sealed then in standard gas/electric rooftop units.

  • @billymcguffin6038
    @billymcguffin6038 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Idk if it is the cause of so many HSI failures in Michigan, but 90%+ of the units I come across with defective HSI have ignition transformer still wired for 240v and being supplied with 208v

    Those tranes with the negative gas pressure gas valve can be a pain. I had one that the inducer fail and show sings that someone messed with the gas valve so I had to replace that too to be on safe side. And replace the igniter for kicks and giggles while I was at it.

      They're called turbulators. If they slide back too far, they blow a hole in the hx. You can remove them, they're a California thing, supposed to help with efficiency.

      If it has voltage going to it and it's not working, it's bad. It really can be that simple. No need for further diagnosis.
