    Nice clubs. Ping made copper irons back in the day too. I remember having a Ping Eye 2 two iron in copper. One last comment...Rick, copper doesn't rust, it corrodes. Only iron rusts. Rust specifically refers to oxides on iron or iron alloys, such as steel. Oxidation of other metals has other names. There is tarnish on silver and verdigris on copper, for example. Now you can impress that PhD chemist you tee it up with. :^)

      Beryllium Copper irons.... the irons you don't kill - they kill you. Well... only if you breath in beryllium dust - which would be difficult to do. But yeah - it is really, really bad for you. I had a beryllium lob wedge and loved it.

I am an avid disc golfer (though not very good!), and I've been so inspired by your videos that I ordered my first starter clubs, due tomorrow. I love the concept of golf; whether with frisbees or golf balls, this sport--conceptually, technically, spiritually . . . whatever--beckons the best in you to be a little bit better. I love that. I have 5-6 sets of Mizuno irons, both blades and cavity backs, and another 9 sets from other brands. The Mizuno sets are the best feeling but it's especially so with the blades. There are some other older blades that compare favorably, like Haig Ultras but not quite to the same level. I'll never change back from Mizuno

    • @Abdullah_Chill

      Mizuno is my first set of steel irons. Really like it. However, got a Ping driver which is amazing. Anyone compared Ping irons to Mizuno irons?

    • @PetSKi67
      @PetSKi67 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve been with Mizuno since replaceing MacGregor Tourney 1025 VIP CM set with Mizuno MP-60, 3-PW.
      Being truly honest, the hashtag tells it all. I’ve went to demos since long and never found any stock clubs, that would have the same buttery feel as Mizunos. Titleists are hard as a rock, Callaway Prototypes were close, but the 1030 carbon steel was really hard, yet pretty nice.
      The others match pretty much Mizuno GI-clubs, but the top end in MP-inventory are at their own level with a decent gap in between. And the best part is, Mizuno is not that aggressive in sponsorship, but sell the same issues to customers as for the pros, not making them under the shelf from Miura san.
      Mizunos are made of the same 1025 steel as the Tourneys were. Never hit Hogan Apex blades, but I hear they are forged from 1025E and returned in the market with different strategy in selling. They don’t use middle men, but direct sell from the factory. The ICON blades are something, I’d love to try.

    Idk know if you know this but copper doesn't rust like iron or steel. That's why it's used alot in plumbing. it might oxidize though which might be the "rust" you see. I'd put some sort of oil or protective coat on them so they stay in that beautiful state! Otherwise over the years it may corrode and turn bluish green which might look pretty cool as well 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • @brianellis5146
    @brianellis5146 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Rick, you should play them. I imagine the patina oxidation would probably add to the iron spin like the "raw" finish wedges that were designed to rust and boost spin. How do they compare in terms of swing weight? Is the copper thicker to compensate for the lack of steel? I do love how marketing has enabled a company to sell unfinished products for a premium price. 🤣

    Don't know if anyone has said this yet but one of the bonuses to copper is that it doesn't rust. what it does is oxidises over time which creates the green looking layer which can be confused for rust, this actually protects the metal from further corrosion and should be able to be cleaned off easily enough. So you don't have to worry about them rusting they won't and as long as look after them I doubt the green layer will form very much either.

    I put head covers on all my clubs stops any damage and also stops the noise of club heads banging into each other when walking this will help keep them in great condition my M5 clubs still look like new after 1 year and 3 rounds a week.

    They are nice looking for sure but .....yes there’s a “BUT”, I’d feel really cheated if I bought those for that price because the copper is what they use to get the nickel and chrome to bond to the heads. Aren’t they saving some money by not coating them and if so shouldn’t they sale them cheaper? 🤔#justthinkingoutquiet

    • @jaybyrne4562
      @jaybyrne4562 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's not what Mizuno said, when they made these, they said they used to do it years ago on older clubs, when they blind tested people, with clubs with copper underlay and ones without, almost everyone said they preferred the ones with.
      So now MP20s have copper under them.
      These were only made because people asked for them that way. Not trying to save money, it was customer request driven.

    • @Twyer24
      @Twyer24 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ur both right. They used to use the copper for adhesion and feel. And they went away from it for years and as a experiment they brought it back and blind tested and it was night and day for testers. And due to all the hype around the copper heads it almost forced them to bring out copper only heads. Soooo when demand is high. Make em pay! Cha ching.

    I love mizuno, and agree with them nothing feels quite like them. These are beautiful looking clubs, they shouldn't rust though as far as the copper, oxidize maybe, but not rust. They are cool collectible.

    technically, copper doesn't rust. it can corrode (and then disintegrate, but that takes quite a long time), if left alone in the presence of oxygen it usually forms that green patina which is mostly harmless (and most patinas are protective). if you want it to stay copper-coloured, you'd have to constantly clean them in a mild acid solution (vinegar and some other things), or coat them with some sort of lacquer or coating, which might work but would probably clog the grooves and need to be reapplied constantly when abraded (like smacking a golf ball across it's surface)

    Hi Rick, Just thought I’d mention, copper work hardens over time, with repetitive strikes in the same location the material will become “harder”. Interesting to consider if that’s why they didn’t go into mass production?

    Rick, Copper does not rust. Copper does corrode but if cleaned properly they will last a long time. I have a copper belt buckle that is 50 years old and looks as good as new. Brasso does wonders keeping bass looking new. I would put them in my bag and play a round with them now and then.

  • @ApHoney

    Go to the local Electric supplies store and buy “de-ox” or “no-ox” it’s a clear/green grease like material, you should get a microfiber cloth and just barely coat each of the club heads with it. They’ll last forever. We use it for all of our terminations to help prevent corrosion on copper and aluminum.

    An interesting side note: Copper does not rust, however, it does corrode. Copper is naturally brown and turns a shade of bright green as it corrodes. While some consider copper's reaction to be tarnish rather than oxidation, the metal still undergoes a similar “rusting” process.

    Rick, I hate to write this but the "standard" Mizuno irons, being forged, are Chrome plated. They do not have a stainless steel finish. As far as I know, the only forged SS irons were the very old Kenneth Smith irons from back in the 1960's and 70's.

  • @ajaxm13
    @ajaxm13 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just a point of clarification, copper will not rust, but patina, which, I imagine will actually make these irons even cooler with time. Ironically, the surface of these "irons" shouldn't rust because the copper finish should contain so little actual iron as to prevent iron-oxide from being produced.
