    At 47 years old, I’m contemplating playing blades for the first time. Hit these a couple of times in a bay and can’t get the feel out of my head. My strikes are so much better with the thinner sole. Won’t be able to play a full set, but 6 or 7 on down will be these clubs. Never looked so forward to a new set in my life!

    It took a long while before I found these to test in a store. Tried the whole MP-20 line today and WOWZERS. Good luck deciding because they are all great. What a brilliant line of irons the MP-20s.

    • @dan.downing
      @dan.downing 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I forgot I wrote this comment nearly a year ago ... after playing with pre-owned clubs for 2 years went for my first proper fitting today. I was convinced I could never "play a blade" when I walked in and that I needed a players cavity like TM P7MC, Titliest T100 or Ping i210. Tested every head and shaft combo in the store over 3 hours on the launch monitor.. The fitter kept bringing me back to the Mizuno MP-20 ...
      Everytime I thought otherwise, he would walk away come back with a few more clubs, mix in an MP-20 MB and say, "don't think ... just hit these new setups". Then show me the numbers together and say "I thought you said you couldn't hit a blade".
      What a jerk. He made his point though.
      I tried to avoid it, didn't believe it, but the MP-20 was the iron for me.

    Solid and fair as always. One part that's subtle enough to get missed is the flared (tapered) top part of the blade. More like the MP-5 in that there's a fair bit of weight in that top portion.....which leads to the vertical stability mentioned. It's well hidden because we bevelled the top edge hard, rather than scalloping the back out as per the MP-5 or MP-32. Small detail - but shape wise the biggest difference between the MP-20 and previous Mizuno blades. Thanks ....reading as many comments as we can.

    Ordered 4,5,6 in the hmbs and then 7,8,9,P in the MP20s this week with the T20s in 50,55,60. Can’t wait for them to arrive! Mizuno irons are the best. Upgrading from the 850s. These feel amazing and, strangely, I hit the blades better than my 850s! Don’t know why. I think when you fall in love with them you maybe just play better!? They feel amazing. Question Mark......
    I’m a 13 handicap, it’s dropping rapidly, and am striking the ball pretty well right now. I currently am using game improvement irons. Super loaded question and I get it but....could someone like me who generally strikes it well play blades? These are so sexy.

    Took me a while to get used to the finish on my 919 Forged, but really like it now and like that they've put it on the face of the blades, too. Used them through the summer and it's proving a lot more durable than I expected.

    • @daw162
      @daw162 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am a crap golfer, crappier than you, I'd bet, but enjoy the harder to hit irons. They force me to slow down and focus on staying under control, limiting unnecessary movement and trying to keep the face as square as possible. Most amateurs aren't good enough for game improvement irons to actually save them much - at least I'm not.
      I have a set of old wilsons from the 60s right now, and a newer set of hogan apex plus (70s or 80s?). I don't miss the bigger irons and despised the offset in most game improvement clubs. Offset is all fine and good until you get to a high handicap hook player.

  • @adamboyle3331
    @adamboyle3331 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Mark and Coach, what do you think about getting ahold of a high end microphone and using it to record sound on irons? Get it real up close and try to capture the best representation of how an iron sounds. The kind of video you can put on headphones for and just really enjoy the sound of different blades. I would love it.

  • @davejablonski8809
    @davejablonski8809 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Still gaming my mp25's. Only club that gets me sometimes is the 3 iron so I was commenting in your live chat about looking at replacing that with a hybrid. Other than that my biggest compliments for the mizuno blades is distance. "An 8 iron is a an 8 iron". With my game improvement clubs prior I could launch a 9 iron over a green in a heartbeat from the semi-rough with a good strike and it's almost a double each time. With the mp25's that rarely if ever happens. Combine them with some heavier shafts and it's hard as heck to pull hook them. I understand the reason for the game improvement clubs but if you struggle with shots going long and pulls then hooking blades I feel can help. Thanks for the review.

    I know I’m late to the party, but I just got a very lightly used set of MP-20s. These are the best feeling blades I’ve ever used. I was going to buy a set of Mizuno Pro 221 but I didn’t want to spend $1500. I mishit a couple shots right off the bat, but after that, WHOA!. I had been using some old MP-14s, but they were tired. I’ve tried many other forged blades, but these irons are just fantastic. So smooth feeling. I even hit a couple bullets off the tee with the 3 iron. Very enjoyable to use. I wonder if the 221s fell identical?

My titleist 981 5 iron can reach up to 230 yards in full swing so on and so forth. Replaced the PW and SW irons with Mizuno MP 60 and G series respectively and I love them. I tried Mizuno blades too and they’re really fun to swing with more distance. No wonder that many players love them because they’re just excellent once you’re get used to them. As an Mizuno MP4 player, I just cannot agree that these feel good. They are gorgeous, but time after time I've demoed these MP20 and they simply don't have that Mizuno softness...not even as good as the Srixon Z-Forged blades. They are extremely firm. I have a buddy that plays these and after 4 rounds of walking 18 holes, his MP20 blades still have no bag chatter on them. My MP4's had bag chatter from transferring them from the box to my golf bag when they were new.

    Would love a 221 vs MP20 vs 923 tour. Really looking to update from 919 tours but can’t decide between those. Almost impossible to find a place that has the heads to compare in both visual and performance

    I would love a test between the MP20 Blades, MMC and JPX919 Tour: what are the differences in look, feel, and data

    0:46 “You had Mizuno blades at one point “ ... erm bit of an understatement ?

      MP 30 is a great iron. Old Mizuno feel. Better feel than the newer Mizunos with the "HD forging".

    Fun and informative review. I gamed a set of MP-5s. Look and perform very close to the MP20

    stunning irons, and nickel plated copper? same as the old classic Maxfli Australian blades, which I have a set of, and keep going back to as they feel amazing :)

    I'm confused. You've done a couple of really good videos showing that there's no such thing as "feel", but you still talk about the feel of every club you hit?

    • @MarkCrossfield
      @MarkCrossfield  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Feel is sound. Just swap that word for sound. We do as much as we can. 👍 you obviously can feel strike as in where in the face of twists are involved. But if you watch again we are actually talking sound.

    Hey Mark my opinion on the loft stuff I'm sure you already they cranked all the lofts up so players can have an 8 iron in from 200 yards out shorter swings over 18 holes conserve energy meaning longer club takes a faster swing just my opinion

    Hey Mark, Dan, or Coach, if you set up a hybrid set, is it possible you would have to have two irons with the same number because of the difference in loft? Might be a nice conversation to have for the viewers, if you are so inclined. Thanks

    What would you use that 4 for in the bag if you also played hybrids? Seems like it would be a workable draw/fade club with decent chip/run potential
