- Catherine is anything but conventional. With great storytelling paired with puzzle and challenging gameplay, Catherine Full Body makes it's ways to current gen consoles and still packs a punch. The topic of relationships and the various endings to unlock lead to quite the intriguing narrative. Even after so long since it's initial release, there's a lot to take in and explore in this game. But man, completing it is just as tough as some of these relationships.

I think you may be missing some of the context regarding Erica appearing pre-transition in one of the new endings. Her dialogue exchange with Toby in that ending implies that she still plans to transition, she just hasn't yet.
It's still a little weird...

Makes sense. The original game was hard as shit because the devs got SUPER good at it, and ended up tuning the difficulty to match their own skills. I'm not sure how much the difficulty in Full Body has been modified, although I'd assume the devs didn't mess with things TOO much.

This is literally the only game on my PS4 that I haven't platinum'd. I even completed the ones that don't have platinums. This one though... It's too much. I love it, but it's too much. Honestly I think Vincent being rude to Rin and overreacting when finding out they have male genitalia is great, not because he’s being an asshole, but because it acknowledges people being assholes to those who are in Rins shoes, however, the most important part of this is how Vincent LEARNS and feels TERRIBLE about being awful to Rin. What I mean to say in short is that this gives off the message of “We know there are people out there who reject those who are different, but they can learn to accept and love the people who they once rejected”

I think the new Catherine ending is showing Erica before she transitioned. Because in the new ending Vincent starts dating Catherine in High school. Given that Vincent started his relationship earlier then he did with Katherine in the main timeline. That is probably why Erica is pre transition in the new ending. I would like to state that the game does fumble a bit with Erica in a few moments but those moments where in the original release as well.

@@MrMurica I remember there being some controversy when the game was leak about this ending and how it was trans-phobic. I don't blame people for wanting to jump to that conclusion given how Erica was handled in the original game and apparently in the Japanese version of Full Body, they refer to Erica as Eric in the credits. Luckily the translation team did a good job at changing that for the american release. They did something similar with the English release of Persona 5 R.

Erica and Vincent have been friends for years now. tens of years perhaps. such friends CAN shove remarks about each other to each other KNOWING those are not meant as an actual attack (like ted is constantly shafted in the completionist episodes, or how wade is "bullied" by markiplier and bob "myskerm"). this already is a good reason why the editing of a conversation between the two was completely unnecessary.
Not to mention that the removal of the voice line and Erica STILL reacting pissed made her...
well....
an accidental trans-phobic depiction. being unreasonably aggressive and moody, lashing out at Vincent for no goods reason. that is implication wise WORSE then the original exchange where Vincent was just striking a nerve with a snide comment about how Erica was not like other women.
I'm pretty sure Erica has given such snide remarks about him just as much, i mean they have been friends since early high school, if not longer.
and as to Catherine wedding ending:
well maybe, maybe not. it might just well be that the death of the guy, who in that alternate time line ended up with Kathrine, has set things into motion in the original timeline with his death, that after 3, 4 or 5 more following events set Erica to question her identity or realization of her gender dysphoria. but since that guy lived in the Catherine's wedding time line, those events may never come to pass and then "Eric" never came to question "his" identity or place in life.
Also I'm pretty sure "he" and toby are still fuckin...soooo...not entirely "bad".
Erica dropped out of high school to transition, so no, the timeline was altered.

I remember a friend of mine on Twitter tried to tell me about the or the original game years ago and I kind of just brushed it off as weird and not for me. But over the last few years since playing more Atlus games, I decided to Full body on Switch and damn its good. I usually hate puzzle games but this one is incredible. Story and gameplay.

Hearing all of this of the game makes me really want to try the game. At first I saw the images for the game and it turned me away like it wasn’t my type of game but hearing the themes makes me want to try it

"A remake for PS4 and Xbox One"
Full Body did NOT release on Xbox One. It was on Vita only in Japan and is now out on Switch worldwide but it's not available on Xbox One anywhere.
Perhaps it could get a release on Xbox Series X. A man can *DREAM*
It's crazy the original was on xbox 360 and PS3 but the remake skipped out on the Xbox version :(
He did the same thing with Bioshock saying it first released on PS3 when it launched as an Xbox 360 exclusive
Reason for this is because Microsoft had a falling out with altus I believe with this game and they refused to put the remake on xbox 1 because of ren

The way the timeline played out prevented that bad break up she had from happening and causing her to disappear. But the line she says to Toby in the ending implies she is going to go through with it!
Ah, that's a relief. So it's less of a "never happened" and more of a "didn't happen yet."

Toby says that he wishes he could meet a good looking gal like Catherine and Erica (still male presenting at that point) says "They might be closer than you think" and winks at him and puts her arm around him.
So it's pretty evident she is still planning to transition. Which is actually a tad happier because that means Toby has known Erica for longer overall as well.
It's a scene that is possible to misread, but the connotations and wording are pretty self explanatory
wheatleyscience9 people are over eager to get offended over this kind of thing. The same thing happened with rin, where people would insist he was trans even when the game came out in English and it could be confirmed he was a boy. People still cried transphobia and said that rin WAS trans, atlus didn’t want to admit it, like what they said about naoto in persona 4 (who is also not trans yet people INSIST... ugh). Because boys aren’t allowed to be cute and feminine I guess. 🙄
AFAIK that's not canon, as that was added in the english version after the controversy.

People still insist that in, for example, super danganronpa 2, Nagito isn't gay for the main character despite having an actual aborted love confession in Japanese to him 😅 Just cuz the English version is worded badly (translation time crunches). I'm not arguing it isn't true or is, btw!
I was attempting to complete this game last month and was traumatized when I read the gold prize trophy. I'm happy with my 70% completion.

Beautiful vid Jirard, I loved the original game but held off on buying Full Body for a while to see the reception. Glad to hear its more than worth returning to
I played through the game once (went for Katherine's true ending) and looked up the cutscenes for the other routes online. As someone who's aroace and never been in a relationship, I wasn't able to fully relate with a lot of the themes in this game, but the fact it kept me engaged in spite of that is a real testament to just how good the storytelling is.
21:55 It doesn't stumble, not at all. It's an alternate timeline where she just hadn't transitioned YET. Vincent got together with K after a reunion, so years after school. He got together with C in this alternate timeline in school and then got married because they decided they were meant for each other before they went back in time.
This ending happens a lot earlier. Years before he would have gotten together with K and the rest of the game plays out, so it stands to reason that Erica was still a man at that time. I really believe that's all that they were trying to convey. She is transitioned in everything else except high school flash backs.

This is not only my favorite NG+ video, it just might be my favorite Completionist video ever. The framing device mirroring the The Golden Saucer was perfect (Monica did great!), you explained the sheer amount of content and just how hard it would all be quite well, and you handled the game's story as smoothly as the game itself did. Anyone coming from a more traditional upbringing is bound to have a few questions that need answering but in the end whats important is you call people by the pronouns they want and you love whoever you love, and im happy to see that being normalized.

I mean, you're literally given the option to commit genocide in that game and are allowed to actually pick it, so that's pretty objectively despicable. At least, in the specific context of the Shadow the Hedgehog game itself's Shadow.

I remember watching the original episode back in the day, and I admit that I didn't really understand the complex themes that the game was representing. Now almost a decade later, after having been married myself, I feel like I have a much better appreciation for it. It seems like this game has aged like the fine wine to which its subtitle alludes.

I love Catherine games so much. I finally bought Classic and have this itch to see content about the series, and this is perfect! That playthrough with the Grumps is what introduced me to your stuff, and it's nice to revisit Catherine, even if I still haven't played Full Body for myself

I was really hoping the Qatherine clip would make it into this episode! This game is a classic, and as someone who never owned a PS3 but loved watching playthroughs of it, i'm so glad they've remastered it with Full Body. I hate that this game was so killer to complete, but it's great that you enjoyed a lot of the experience anyway

I feel like this is one of your most moving videos for the completionist. I absolutely love it, for several reasons.
I'm still amazed this got a port to Switch, but Persona 5 didn't. Like, of all Atlus games to make or port to family-friendly Nintendo, it's a borderline-hentai rpg puzzle game and then an actual puzzle game.

That ending occurs before Erica transitioned since he started dating Kathrine in high school and in that ending Vincent never met Kathrine which means the timeline is screwed up, Vincent never mets Kathrine Erica doesn't transition until much later . The context is there everyone just jumps to transphobia despite it being pre-transition.

The first time i played this game was the switch version and i was going for a full Rin route because HE was the only characger that was nice to me then wen we find out Rin is a guy i ave restart a new game .... I’m going to respectfully disagree on you seeing Eric not becoming Erica as a bad thing. Sure, perhaps they never change, HOWEVER, another interpretation especially cause this involves Catherine is more about chaos and torment, I.e. in a weird way Eric is probably still struggling to discover that he is a woman trapped in a mans body and has not come to the realization yet.
I get the message you’re trying to say, but I think if you just look at it in a different way you could see it’s not an insult or ten steps back as you’re trying to paint it.
“Discovering” yourself is all about time, place, and context. For instance a handful of kids in my class realized they were gay once they were able to leave my super conservative christian town. As well as meeting the right people, so in a way it’s saying that because of Vincent never dating Katherine, certain events HAVENT transpired yet, meaning it could still happen

I originally got incredibly addicted to catherine after your og rendition of catherine. It's just... Immense.
I'm not sure a game like Catherine should have a "definitive ending". Rin's story feels very glued on and throws the original premise off

Bit one sided really its your choice to live however u want but u cant expect to force everyone to accept it and be tolerant they arent forcing you to be straight so if u can live however u choose to them i belive so can everyone else and that includes not liking or supporting your choices its up to them if they dont like it same as its up to u if u wana be like that its not fair to force your beleifs on others
Actually the fact that Rin is wearing a trans color palette is a dead giveaway if you think about it.
I hate that color palette. I hate it because it looks great, and that greatness is all I focus on, and so I always fail to recognize the symbolism until somebody points it out, and then I feel like a fool for not realizing it. '-'
