They difference between the original and the Remake is that the Remake make the Spencer Mansion alot larger inside along with the pool house & the lab. It quite a twist having zombies evolve into Crimson Heads as well as put Lisa Trevor in the game. It sad that what happen to her and her family. Imagine spending over 30 years as a human lab rat ( in fact I couldn't imagine anyone living in that Mansion by themselves ). The best character to use on the Remake is Jill. The inventory it easy to organize you just have to know what you need in curtain area. Most difficult is the paintings that will drive you nuts. It's a bit weird that Spencer have a lot of Graves outside the Mansion as well as having a cabin ( in fact I think the cabin is the only building survive the explosion ). Truly the best version of Resident Evil in my opinion.
I've been playing since the second one on the PS1 and this HDRemaster and RE2make are me two favorites in the series, they feel the most like being in a Romero movie to me. I really like the fixed camera angles in ReMake and think it holds up extremely well. The HD version is great and I'm so glad it exists.
Sharks aren't new to this remake, we also got sharks in the original version although in a way simpler water tank area, and the 180 degree turn was first introduced in the OG RE3.
Crazy that NG+ is already at number 99! It feels like just yesterday that it started. Awesome work Jirard! Also man it’s wild how well this game still holds up. Such a genuine classic.
This game was the swan song of classic survival horror, and is the finest example of everything great about the genre. Silent Hill may be scarier and more narratively rich, but REmake is just the purest form of this sort of game design. I understand why they don't make games like this anymore, though, and I'm glad this game is the high note the genre went out on. (Even though RE0 came out a year later but like... we can just ignore that one, right?)
I've honestly been rather shocked at the quality of RE revelations 1 and 2. I played both on the switch recently and they both managed to do what no game has in over a decade. They actually scared me a few times! I felt dread, and I felt the dwindling ammo stores. They have modern controls, but the claustrophobic hallways, the non linear gameplay that has you running around finding keys and figuring out where to go (revelations 1 was better in this regard than 2) they actually feel like classic RE games more than modern main line entries
It looks like the video has a bunch of comments already, so this has probably been said, but just to clarify, the remake version was originally exclusively released for the GameCube. There was no Dreamcast version of REmake. Also, the original GameCube version of this game still only had tank controls as the only way to play. The PS4 era updated version added the “modern” control scheme to the game. It’s odd to hear you get a bit of the details wrong, but I love your videos!
this game is imo the best in the series it took me a few yearsto do so but i have also completed it trophues and all and im 100% with your ranking something about doing this feels extremely rewarding especially when i got that letter from shinji mikami. one last thing is that actually there were sharks in the original and that there is a lot more rooms and a few more zones to explore in the remake than the original

@@sdewey4152 yeah dude is nuts. Even now REmake stomps everything in the entire category other than silent hill 2 and possibly RE7. RE2 is a close contender but never manages the sheer atmosphere of RE1. Something about those narrow corridors. RErevelations1 and 2 are both surprisingly good as well. Amazingly they get close to capturing the feeling of an old RE game but with more modern controls.
Seeing this after getting the platinum. I did the knife, 3 hour run, and no save all together. 😂you can do so much in this game it’s great. The letter from the creator was awesome. Loved this game!
for Jirard fans here, I'd suggest watching RE SuperBeard Bros as well. that was a GREAT Playthought of Remake. almost through me off seeing this on NG+ now
My first exposure to resident evil was the gamecube remake of the first one. My oldest brother played. He was around 15. My other brother was like 13 i was 12. We were terrified. Lisa trevor gave us nightmares.
Resident Evil Remake was released in 2002 for the GameCube Exclusively. The Dreamcast was discontinued in 2001. Code Veronica was the main title released for the system, we did however get ports of RE2 and RE3 for the system. Fun Fact: RE3 allows you to pick your costume in a new game costume select screen no need to unlock them.
I think you're right about that. Given the confusing history of remakes, re-releases, and exclusive counsel releases at the time, I'm more than willing to give him a break.
Damn you Barstow! You absolutely evil, nefarious- fantastic, wonderful, amazing person! Never change! Great episode as ever, Jirard. Looking forward to the next one, but for now, I'll go and tune in to your Squashamania stream. :)
I got the platinum trophy for this game, I definitely did my knife only run on easy mode. I would say that the only people who would really feel compelled complete this game a fans of the game/series, and of course trophy hunters.
My introduction to the games was the RE2 Remake, with this HD remaster being my 2nd venture into the franchise. And as someone who is only a year older than the original remake from 2002, I absolutely loved getting that 100% completion. The challenge modes were awesome and creative and I would do it all again.
They remade Resident Evil for Dreamcast? Only Resident Evil 2,3 and Code Veronica was made for Dreamcast. Only GameCube got the Remake. Just a tip for the writers there.
Ever since I watched Noah Gervais do a 7 and a half hour long franchise retrospective on RE I've been clamoring for more content discussing the series. Happy to see it come back here!
I love seeing your reviews on Resident Evil especially since as much as I enjoy the series I just don't have the patience to complete it. I'm all about that saving every chance I can lol. I enjoy any version of this game well except that really bizarre basement music that was .. different if I play that version I end up muting the basement area.
greatest RE game of all time, a masterpiece that kept everything unique and memorable about the original while adding something fresh/new both for old and new comers, peak of survival horror.
Say what you want about Welcome to Raccoon City.. It's the only RE movie so far to take from the games in such a way. Yeah, Leon was a dufus and this that blah blah.. I liked it better than most of the other RE films.. purely because it felt similar to the game.
@@DukeofGames50 yeah. I think it must of been a mistake because the only games ever put on the dreamcast were RE2, RE3 and RE:CV which was an exclusive.
REmake has to be the greatest video game remake of all time. It’s not often you see a remake stay 100% faithful to the original while also adding enough new content to keep veterans on their toes. Lots of remakes don’t replace the original like this did. Only other games that came close were Pokémon HG/SS
The remake never was on Dreamcast. Code Veronica was on Dreamcast along with RE2&3 but the original never was on it remade or otherwise. The original Resident Evil was on both PS1 and the Sega Saturn. The remake was exclusive to GameCube/Wii for the longest until they made the HD remasters. Also, I doubt GE will still be a brand/company in 20 years. Love this game and loved the video!
REmake is quite possibly my favorite game of all time or, at the very least, in the top five for sure. I know the Spencer Mansion like the back of my hand and could probably draw out a crude map from memory. So the added challenges of the trophies in the HD remaster version of it were great for me--breathing new air into a game I've played to death and making me do challenges I otherwise wouldn't have tried, like completing the game without saving. I also think Real Survival is my favorite way to play the game now. I love thinking ahead as to where I should leave certain items (for example, I leave the magnum you find in the graveyard in the item box is Lisa's house because late into the game you loop back around to her cabin and that's when I grab it to bring it along). Also Lisa is the best. I love her.
Resident Evil 1 and final fantasy 7 are the reasons I bought my first PS1 back in the day! No videos just GamePro magazine pictures of the game! Tonight I beat my first play though of the Remaster with Jill and this game rocks! Starting Chris now!! Last time I beat this game was when it was released on PS1 so can't fully picture the changes besides the graphics and crimson heads!
I guess it is kind of fitting that the only 2 RE games that got jirard’s complete it rating are the ones considered the 2 best resident evil games of all time REmake and RE4
I own this game since it was free on PS+ but I never dared to start it up even once since it seems so intimidating to me, I fear that I will be more frustrated then anthing else because of the limited saves and inventory space... maybe one day though, one day.
I feel like once they remake Re4 and Re code Veronica then they’ll do a remake of Re1 but in the 3rd person style of Re2/Re3 remakes, it could be the best thing ever
After all this time, the is one game Jirard has not completed yet. I wonder if he’ll ever do it. The Legend of Dragoon, I keep watching in hopes to one day see that title.

Correction at 6:21 - it was never released on the Dreamcast. it was GameCube exclusive.
Crazy that NG+ is already at number 99! It feels like just yesterday that it started. Awesome work Jirard!
Also man it’s wild how well this game still holds up. Such a genuine classic.
I FINALLY managed to 100% this myself yesterday, GREAT VIDEO DUDE !
It never got released on Dreamcast as far as I know. Didn't know about dev.
this game is imo the best in the series it took me a few yearsto do so but i have also completed it trophues and all and im 100% with your ranking something about doing this feels extremely rewarding especially when i got that letter from shinji mikami. one last thing is that actually there were sharks in the original and that there is a lot more rooms and a few more zones to explore in the remake than the original
Ah yes, RE Remake. The pinnacle of survival horror video games.
Pinnacle of how to remake a game too, I hope one day to say the same for FF7 but time will tell, so far so good though.
@@sdewey4152 I played it today in honor of this video. My conclusion? Boring as hell. It’s fun when you’re 7 years old .
Nah it's still perfection
@@andrewjames7438 7? You must be young lol. I guess you didn't enjoy the original at launch then, so didn't fully appreciate the magnitude of the REmake.
Always loving your work Jirard! I laughed a lot with the blackmail lol
Seeing this after getting the platinum. I did the knife, 3 hour run, and no save all together. 😂you can do so much in this game it’s great. The letter from the creator was awesome. Loved this game!
for Jirard fans here, I'd suggest watching RE SuperBeard Bros as well.
that was a GREAT Playthought of Remake.
almost through me off seeing this on NG+ now
I don't ever remember/recall the og remake being on the dreamcast? It was a gamecube exclusive at the time
Tack!
THIS is the best RE game ever made. Yes RE4 is fantastic and was many people’s first time experiencing RE but REmake will always be #1
"Such as these Flesh-eating Sharks" ... as opposed to... vegetarian sharks? 😆 Great video as always, Jirard!
My first exposure to resident evil was the gamecube remake of the first one. My oldest brother played. He was around 15. My other brother was like 13 i was 12.
We were terrified. Lisa trevor gave us nightmares.
I can't believe I hadn't seen this channel before you joined G4. A true gamer god, great video flawless J!
Completionist uploading makes my day
That quick blackmail bit. I love stuff like these.
I was so confused when he said it was on dreamcast too xD
Didn't they keep making games for the Dreamcast for like ten years or something?
Haven’t seen the show in a while. Loving the new intro and the episode is general. I’ll happily be keeping up with the vids again.
Congratulations on 99, only one more to go and we already know you got this.
First 120, so 21 left but he's still very close!
@@OrangeShanker 120, how did I screw this up so much, maybe just because he mentioned the big 100 next. Thanks for the correction ha ha.
WOW THE DREAMCAST RELEASE MUST BE SUPER RARE!
Damn you Barstow! You absolutely evil, nefarious- fantastic, wonderful, amazing person! Never change!
Great episode as ever, Jirard. Looking forward to the next one, but for now, I'll go and tune in to your Squashamania stream. :)
The GameCube Remake of Resident Evil is a true masterpiece. I love the game, it’s my personal favorite game, tied with Metal Gear Solid 3.
Started just yesterday playing Resident Evil 7. What a coincidence you made a video about the og today.
Jirard: *critiquing and praising about unlockable costumes and endings.*
RE Outbreak: Oh you're gonna love me.
Finally a game that I enjoy on this channel. It’s been awhile
Love this game! One of my favorite REs. Glad to see you cover it Jirrard
This game was absolutely never available on the Dreamcast. This was a Nintendo exclusive as were Zero and Four.
This is the best game in the franchise. The shining example of the genre. Perfection. Great job, dude
They remade Resident Evil for Dreamcast? Only Resident Evil 2,3 and Code Veronica was made for Dreamcast. Only GameCube got the Remake. Just a tip for the writers there.
Okay I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. I was looking on wikis for a few minutes thinking maybe I missed something obscure
Could truly see your connection to the game.
All these Resident Evil remakes and remasters and I'm just here waiting for Dino Crisis to get its turn. Maybe one day.
greatest RE game of all time, a masterpiece that kept everything unique and memorable about the original while adding something fresh/new both for old and new comers, peak of survival horror.
Mehhh re2 was better and 4 the best
@@Diabeticninja90hell naw
Dude, you're getting so close to finishing New Game + ! Impressive (re)run! 😄
This HD version was my first ever Resident Evil game and I absolutely loved it. Since then I've played RE7 and will (sometime this year) play Village.
Capcom needs to make Resident Evil Remater 4K/Ultrawide next becasue the background pictures does not work with those resolutions!
Say what you want about Welcome to Raccoon City.. It's the only RE movie so far to take from the games in such a way. Yeah, Leon was a dufus and this that blah blah.. I liked it better than most of the other RE films.. purely because it felt similar to the game.
one of my favorite games and one of the best remaster ever made I didn't even know about most of these modes but I'm going to have to try them out
Uhhh around 6:20 you say the resident evil remake was on Dreamcast but I’ve never seen or heard of it. Anyone else ever hear of this ?
Before the 2 minute mark he mentioned it also, where it was Dreamcast and GCN
@@DukeofGames50 yeah. I think it must of been a
mistake because the only games ever put on the dreamcast were RE2, RE3 and RE:CV which was an exclusive.
Love this game and loved the video!
i remember summers when i was younger where we would do runs of RE and see how quick me and my friends can speed run all scenarios lol
I realy want to see a syphon filter video. Any syphon filter. Such a good franchise
I love her.
Dude your Seinfeld impression is on point
This game is still my favorite remake/remaster ever released. So good!
My like and comment are given solely for the fact you chose to rate it with your experience in mind. Stick to your guns, we respect it
I guess it is kind of fitting that the only 2 RE games that got jirard’s complete it rating are the ones considered the 2 best resident evil games of all time REmake and RE4
Am I going crazy or was the original RE not actually released on the Dreamcast? I know 2, 3, and Code Veronica were, but not 1, right?
You're 100% right, I was confused myself and I came to the comments to see if I was crazy lol
Wasn't it released on the saturn tho
@@theironquack yea saturn ps1 Nintendo ds, but never on dreamcast
I'm glad Jirard ended up going with his own opinion of the game. That's what we're here for; to see what Jirard thinks.
This game was never on Dreamcast. Such a weird thing to get wrong. So easy to check.
Thank you, i wanted to say something, but figured I'd check to see if someone else already said it.
I own this game since it was free on PS+ but I never dared to start it up even once since it seems so intimidating to me, I fear that I will be more frustrated then anthing else because of the limited saves and inventory space... maybe one day though, one day.
I must admit, resident evil remake and 2 remake are two of the best games I have ever played. They're Absolutely amazing.
"I'm glad to leave the past in the past."
*plays 20 year old game*
I've been waiting for this. This was the first episode of the Completionist I've ever watched
I feel like once they remake Re4 and Re code Veronica then they’ll do a remake of Re1 but in the 3rd person style of Re2/Re3 remakes, it could be the best thing ever
no point keep dreaming
@@godzillazfriction They remade 2, 3 and now are remaking 4 so why wouldn’t they remake the original that started it all?
@@canontheory they already did
Finally I was waiting for this also cool to see another new game plus
Closing in on the end of NG+! It's been fun seeing you revisit a lot of older games, even if I missed the original videos.
This is the first game on PS4 I platinumed, I hope one day to get a VR version in the style of 7 or Village.
After all this time, the is one game Jirard has not completed yet. I wonder if he’ll ever do it. The Legend of Dragoon, I keep watching in hopes to one day see that title.
I think its great they are planning to remake the remake. Update graphics and controls on par to RE 2 remake.
On par? The controls in this game are perfect.
the scariest thing of all this is that the next episode of new game plus will be on that "game" from 2006
Sonic?
