    Another tip: the washer sprayers can be replaced with Honda Fit sprayers as a direct replacement, which gives a much more effective fan spray pattern as opposed to the two tiny streams from each sprayer.

    I sandblasted my wiper arms just as you did Eric, spray painted them flat black as well, and the paint just kept chipping. So I got the arms powder coated locally, for a mere $25 for all 3 arms, and they are still flawless 10 years later. 1995 GSR.

    Talk about good timing. I replaced all 3 wiper's rubber inserts last fall on my 1994 GSR. It was a relatively easy task. I managed to get 25 years out of the original ones. The rubber has ripped apart on the rear wiper. These last few days, I've been looking for a good "how to" video on painting the wiper arms and along comes your video as if you read my mind... lol. Having them sand blasted them will be a great time saver even though a large area on the front wipers are already down to bare metal.

    I got a bag of each kind of clip I will ever need for my car. So as they ALWAYS BREAK...I don't have to even try to baby the things. I have a Honda 1999 Honda Civic that I BOUGHT NEW in 1999. 250k miles. Fix it myself. I replaced the Windshield motor I just live with the lose joints. AND YES it slaps the frame and YES it is aggravating. hahah....I started watching you a long time ago and you are still the BEST instructional VIDEO guy I have found!

    I did the same exact thing to my Civic Si but I painted my front cowl along with the windshield wipers arms and it came out perfect it made a huge difference. Also fog light bezels, ft bmp lip, and rear mud guard. That Type R is so perfect 👌

    Ermergurd! Turp Urrrrr! I’m a little jealous that you scored an unmolested Type R AND a mostly stock GSR. But thank you for the amazing in-depth content, especially on stuff like this. Not many videos about how to replace windshield wiper linkages all the while refraining from breaking clips. Also, thank you very much for putting up part numbers. You’re definitely making my time working on my DC2 GSR a lot easier.

    I've been using stove top/bbq/grill paint for my wiper arms. You have to bake it, so that's dependent on the components of your arms (mine are all steel and i just remove the springs) but the outcome is worth it. Very durable paint, doesn't need any top coat and best part, it can stay in the sun as much as it damn pleases it, the paint will never come off. Short of mechanical damage, that paint ain't chippin, fading etc.

    When I ordered new later model wiper arms for my Audi that would take aerotwin wipers, I overtightened the arm nuts and broke the thread of the assembly, so had to buy a brand new assembly too. That was one of the first jobs i did on the car so fondly remember it lol.

    Nice paint job on the arms. Great trick to release the arms by pushing on the joints. 🙂 Those top clips always break. Never got one off successfully intact. Honda prices were daft in my neck of the would(something like fifty quid for the clips), got identical ones on ebay for a tenner. Honda spares in the States seem much cheaper. With a couple of spares. Fair play getting the plastic cowl off so easily. I've broken a couple in scrapyards looking for spares. I've fitted Honda Jazz washer sprayers that fire more of a mist and much better than the originals. Common enough upgrade in Europeland.

    Those wipers really do look brand new now :-D.
    I had a tinker with my frends windscreen wiper linkage, the plastic cup was worn out and the arm would drop off, So i did an evil bodge.
    i found a clear plastic bag that was thicker than the cheap supermarket temp shopping bags.
    Place one layer of the clear bag over the ball and push the cup back into place, cut off excess bag.
    Bodgy Yes, but that was two years ago lol.

    • @CouchMan88
      @CouchMan88 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They make a product called Back to Black. It's for plastic and rubber trim pieces. Works great to give a deeper color and shine to black trim pieces. Sometimes it leaves a bit of a streak but if you just buff the hell out of it then it goes away and comes out great. It's applies like a wax where you rub it on, let it dry and then buff it off.

  • @eugenehall390
    @eugenehall390 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Eric. Next time you wanna pull that wiper cowl, once the clips are off go up towards the windshield first. If you're disconnecting the washer it's already off if not just take one end through the hood gap and you don't have to risk breaking that panel.

  • @CouchMan88
    @CouchMan88 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice. You can't get that rubber seal for between the cowl and the hood anymore either. I spend my last trip to the junkyard collecting those as well as the rubber seal for the front of the hood. Hard part is finding good condition ones and removing them without ripping or tearing them. I bought a bunch of those clips so I didn't have to worry about breaking them when I take mine off. I was just going to replace my seal because mine is torn but now I will probably rebuild my wiper assembly before putting my Civic back together just like you did here.

    I live in the Colorado high desert edge of mountains at 8000 ft and the sunlight (uv) eats plastic alive. My clips broke as well. I was devastated... Also, you can slide the cowl in from the top if you don’t want to bend it and risk cracking it. If you can still get these cowls brand new, it’s really worth replacing the entire thing. Didn’t cost that much at the time and made such a difference visually.

    I did let once the dealership change wiperblades to my car while it was in oil change. I thought they'd put the original Kia parts in it but they had putted those flat "Volkswagen" style wiperblades. They do work but of course they don't look like the original ones, which I think are made by Denso. Next time I'll change them myself and put the original style parts back on.

      @CouchMan88 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are a bitch to get off without breaking the clips. I would recommend you go to the junkyard to practice taking a few off. Also grab extra white clips that hold them on from the junkyard, I don't think you can buy them new. Basically you have to pry them up a little bit and push in with a knife or small screw driver the tab that holds them in the door. The two on the ends are the hardest to remove. Different style than the ones in the middle. I swapped doors on my Civic and switched out the black trim for the chrome strips. You can also cut off all the old rubber coating and mask it off and paint it on the car. I did that in the past and it turned out pretty good. Remove the mirror and trim around it first.

    Does the Type R come with a window visor or is the part in general an option part only?

    Is very difficult to find a recent video from your channel. I was wondering what is your opinion about buying a project car from a junk yard to practice my skills as an amateur mechanic.

    Use some Mothers Back to Black trim restorer on that cowl and you will be looking brand new. It applies like a wax, pretty easy to use and works well.

      I plan to when I get further into the restoration. The windshield has a couple of issues and will likely get replaced. I was going to do the rest when that came out. Thanks for the comment.

    hey eric quick question, would those part numbers work on a 2006 acura rsx? i've went to a honda dealer giving them the rod part numbers and they told me the system came up with a different part number for the rsx. idk if they have diff part numbers in order to charge me more since its a acura but since acura's are really honda's wouldn't it be the same? just trying to buy ones that are cheaper yet would still function properly. thanks.
