I love the enthusiasm you have for the car. This is how I felt the day after I put my 4-2-1 header and Remus muffler on my CRX. Quality exhaust upgrades are worth it for sure. The thickness of the pipe is what gives it a good sound. All the ebay stainless exhausts sound crappy because 1. there's actually nothing in the muffler usually and 2. it's super thin metal and it resonates like mad and gives the car a tinny high pitched sound which is sadly characteristic for modified hondas. Thick stainless or steel piping gives a much nicer sound since perhaps the thick metal absorbs the high frequencies, i'm not sure. but for sure quality parts for the win.
My '02 Toyota pickup had the back O2 sensor plug located under the seat and carpet in the cab, had to pull the whole bench seat to access it! What a PITA. Excellent craftsmanship with the new exhaust system!
Out of the hundreds and hundreds of videos I’ve watched of yours over the last 5 years since my freshman year of highschool the type r video series is by far my favorite series you’ve done and there’s only a few videos on it so far I can really feel your love and passion for the car
Appreciate the "realness" of the video. Leaks...drops...etc. In my opinion, this is one of the main reasons so many people(Including myself) follow your channel. Keep up the good work!!
I picked up a Tanabe medallion for my b20v Integra a while back for dirt cheap. Haven't installed it yet because I've been busy with customer cars. But being an "older" guy I like an exhaust tone as close to quiet as possible but also want the extra couple hp. Glad I made the right choice.
Eric, you dropping stuff on the floor makes you human/relatable. The amount of 6min videos you see where people change the whole system with 0 faults it's enormous. I enjoy your videos sir, can't wait for that supercharger.
P0-420. A new Cat will usually take care of that... Eric. I love it, you're like a kid at Christmas getting a new toy... I have a 2000 Accord that is going to need a new Cat pretty soon (it's got the rattle). No codes yet, but I was thinking on replacing the exhaust system when I do the Cat. I know it's not an Acura Integra Type-R, but the car runs and drives great and after this video it made me want to do the exhaust even more. Great video! Thanks Eric.
Good to hear another black ITR on the road with a 2.5" cat and not sounding obnoxious. Just like what I did on my 01 ITR. I may have the same cat you do! 2.5" all the way back but with JDM 4-1 header. I added 3 O2 bungs if I ever want to go the route of tuning. But after owning so many RS/LS/GSR and finally the dream ITR, I'm an old man that just wants to cruise with it mildly stock. Test pipe hurts when driving for long hours. Looking forward to more updates.
Aftermarket exhaust, fits most cars, after a few cuts and welds, and longer bolts, piece of cake. That’s a tough job, even a preacher would cuss a few times. I was going to say fart can, but it sounds great.
Eric Iv had the tanabe gold medallion on my 2000 SI for 15 years and it's definitely worth the money!! I know you got a steal with the kit you bought 👍👍👍 I knew that exhaust would be something you would be happy with!!!
I'm about to get a multi process welder so I can do TIG. MIG TIG doesn't matter. It's just a matter of practice. You're doing great. Those welds will do fine. Thanks for the video as usual!
A little inginuity sounds great. The welding gave me flash backs of my old math teacher. Always good stuff here! Parts of my state don't require emissions testing...So bypassing the O2 sensors all together might be worthwhile.Still researching this.Just ordered a tuner for my SPEC-V. Another badass class/video!
Man, everything was fighting you on this one, stuff falling everywhere :)) That aside, great retrofit/install. I really liked how you tackled the cat flange (engine side) certainly better than how you usually see them in the wild.
Flat exhaust gaskets are copper wire sandwiched with paper, then dipped in lead. Doughnut exhaust gaskets are a ring of copper wire mesh, dipped in lead. Both crush into sealing, and should not be reused. All exhaust gaskets should be whetted with copper anti seize before installation. Prior to installation- Thoroughly scrub pipes with brown Scotch Brite pad or steel wool, rinse with brake parts cleaner. Handle cleaned pipes with clean gloves. After attachment and leak checked- spray all pipes with WD-40 while HOT to achieve that beautiful golden color, that will last for years- when applied correctly.
ERIC! SO GOOD to see you wrenching on stuff again! Better yet, it's the Type R. There's no comparison to the old and new exhaust tones - fart can sound BE DAMNED! (I'm condemned to hear flatulence buckets whining past my house since they widened the street. Singularly unpleasant!) The saw blades look like those after Moe draws a saw across Curly's head. "OH! OH! OH! Oh, Look!"
well done... beautiful sound.. way better than before... and i learnt heaps from this video and now i know how to inspect those boy racer cars' exhaust system... thank you
Yep totally agree, ETCG is the FIRST You Tube car guy I watched from the start on tv it was Shade Tree Mechanic on PBS with Dave Bowmen and Sam M. sorry cant spell his last name. ETCG keep them GREAT videos coming as always until next.
You know that honda engines actually run better and more powerfully when they get the slight back-pressure that the cat provides and that they are designed to have
That's spot on! , i don't think anyone could have done it better than you. Your lift made that job much better, imagine having to struggle with a car on jacks/stands :-(
If I had to do this on the ground with jack stands it would be a totally different story. Doable yes, but, as you said, the lift makes all the difference. Thanks for your comment as always. I hope you're staying safe and healthy in these unprecedented times.
I recently did my own header back. Instead of the 3 bolt I went with a vband and instead of a flange at muffler I did a vband too. Both cheap, I also got a new 2 bolt header flange with a gasket for like 20 dollars. Vbands were 50 for pair. I did a bung as well very similar to yours and my exact fit my for muffler was slightly to the passenger side but fit fine. Went with an ultra quiet vibrant resonator and a magnaflow straight thru muffler. Mufflers a wee bit too small canister style but sounds pretty good

I’m a simple man, I see EricTheCarGuy post a 40 minute video, I watch.

I believe Vibrant has the gaskets you need and a new flange.
I believe that is the first Ericgasm I have seen out of all of the videos I have watched over the years. Good job.
I had a ‘92 GS-R (B17A1). First car I bought new. Loved it and had it for 220k miles. Miss it when I hear you running through the gears.

I always liked those Tanabe Medallion mufflers, they look and sound great!
The perfect exhaust for a Honda.
I agree 100%. This is the best exhaust I've ever seen/heard on a Honda.
EricTheCarGuy better than my greddy evolution with megan racing headers and test pipe ? (honda accord 2001 coupe f23a4)
@@ericthecarguy Mugen twin loops have a pretty symphonic quality

Avast! It’s a Type Argh!
this be a pirates fav car ...
Those welds are YARGH, weld much???
New exhaust sounds way better. That header is letting it breath up high, not to mention the new cat.
Damn the CAT
What a blessing it is to live in AZ where cars are rust and corrosion free!!
I don't remember the last time I tapped on a video so quickly, I like my Tenabe Medallion too!
Thank god, you finally fixed the Type R sticker on the trunk lol
Brilliant video. Nice to see a wee bit of custom work and an upgrade. Would be really interested in more of this type of thing.
great way to relax on a friday afternoon, watching an ole shop day with eric himself. great video friend.

So happy you arent saying headers. It may be ebay, but I've always like the megan racing catback exhausts for the price.
Awesome video! Keep doing what you do.
Sounds great Eric, well worth the effort.
25:45 - 25:56 Eric great catch man!
I just got a used tanabe full cat back for $40. Can't wait to install it on my si.

Gotta love the sound of vtec cross over
Looks like it's sucking oil past the valves between shifts and coasting in gear.
b series burn oil from the factory. that may be a part of it
They burn oil yes, but they're not supposed to smoke like that..
i have a b18 PR3 type R head for my delsol i cant wait to put it on and preserve aggressive vtec 90s history
I couldn’t imagine trying to fabricate an exhaust under the car with floor jacks!! Car lift FTW!! Great vid man ☺️
I run a 4 to 1 on my header straight pipe to a A'PEXi muffler love the sound
You know that honda engines actually run better and more powerfully when they get the slight back-pressure that the cat provides and that they are designed to have

Dang, he’s got a Type R. That’s awesome
I know those motors very well. I built a few f20b preferably. Same exhaust I dig it
I love my turbo
It allows me to run straight exhaust without too much noise or need for muffler.
Awesome! I have a tenabe medallion for my crx, as well as an apexi ws2 for my integra, I hope they sound as good as your r!
Somebody can run really fast to get the footage of the exhaust rolling down the road. Props to flash!
Excellent work good luck.
Holly that vtec sound at 35:33 !
Amazing vehicle. I think that engine so deserves a ”quiet” exhaust like Eric did here.
Love the work and the sound!
Greetings to you too Ezza
I recently did my own header back. Instead of the 3 bolt I went with a vband and instead of a flange at muffler I did a vband too. Nice job my friend I was waiting for the trashcan underneath the vice to catch fire when he was welding 😜
Friend had a Tanabe exhaust loved how it sounds!!
Outstanding Eric.
Strong hand pg622v locking pliers are awesome for that type of exhaust work. Use mine all the time. Recommend getting at least 2
Love the Type R. Very clean stock setup.
I see type R, I click and like.
