Congrats on the good find Eric! Back to the old days with Honda's I see. Long time watcher here from Australia. I rarely comment on videos, but really excited for this new episode Type R. Had a Integra Type R back in the day. But as circumstances change and family grows had to say goodbye to it. Oh how, I really missed that Type R.
You do a really good job describing the car. I'm blind, and love cars a lot. I can tell you what a car is by feeling it, and hearing it start, and if noticeable, I can tell you what year.
I don't think that you paid too much. But what amazes me is the value of seriously desirable Japanese cars. After working on Toyotas and Hondas at the dealer level since 1989, I have seen them come and go. So many I have owned, and those I have wanted to own. Currently own a 2011 Tacoma TRD Off Road double cab and an 01 Camry. Loved Integra's but never owned one. Had close friends that owned them and worked on them. I'm happy that you have finally was able to own one that you had coveted for so long. Enjoy my friend!
As I'm sure you're well aware already, if you want to get any OEM parts to replace things on the Type R (or even the GSR), you better get them soon as every day more and more parts are discontinued for these cars. I have a custom SMSP exhaust manifold (a real one, not one of those PLM replicas) I would be happy to donate to the project if you wanted. It would go nicely with a nice exhaust, and obviously you could always put the OEM manifold back on if you wanted to return to stock. No one seems to want to buy it locally so I'd be happy to give it to you as thanks for all the videos and information over the years, if you're interested.
A friend of mine got to drive a real Type R about 16 years or so ago, and was blown away by the handling and how hard it pulled, he had at the time a 1992 Integra GS. He has wanted a Type R from that day to now, but it is nice to say that his current 1993 Acura Integra GS is about as quick as the Type R. His 1993 though has been massively upgraded to be as quick, B18A1 block, ported 1995 B18C1 Integra GS-R head (with Skunk2 lost motion assembles), high compression pistons (with the GS-R head 12.5:1 compression), ported Skunk2 intake manifold matched to a 70mm throttle body, 4-1 exhaust header with 2.5 inch collector to a 2000 Camaro SS Flowmaster catalytic converter, a quiet Greddy SP2 cat. back exhaust, a chipped OBD1 modded for VTEC and tuned by me using Crome on a Moates Ostrich 2.0... With the stock GS-R cams, and the tune as I have it (tuned using a vacuum gauge and wide band O2 and on the fly tuning) I am guessing his engine makes at least 190 flywheel HP. He believes the only thing keeping his car from being as fast, is the extra weight of the DA9 chassis and he is still using the stock 1993 Integra transmission which has a wider gear spacing and a 4.44:1 final drive. With a bit of weight taken out and a shorter geared transmission, we are hoping to make his car at least as fast as the Type R...and faster if decides to build for a turbo.
It's not rusted out.... Still.... I think you've caught it in time! I know you have the ability to love a car the way this car needs right now! Might be time for a trip to Pull-A-Part soon! 😀
I wish you the best of luck with your purchase Eric! You have one of the Best modern classics in the palm of your hands. Please, Please, Please post your restoration process and journey on youtube. I own a 1995 Honda Civic SiR EG6 (Like your Integra Type R, is all there and totally standard) which is sadly rotting away in the outdoors for the past year. I hope to start restoring it in the coming months. Owners of these wonders of engineering by Honda should cherish them and look after them as everything about these cars will never be seen again. Many thanks and keep up the good work that you do to keep these Brilliant machines on the road.

No one seems to want to buy it locally so I'd be happy to give it to you as thanks for all the videos and information over the years, if you're interested.
johnkilo your a nice dude,
A friend of mine got to drive a real Type R about 16 years or so ago, and was blown away by the handling and how hard it pulled, he had at the time a 1992 Integra GS.
This car is making me for real wish I had a angle die grinder with a wire wheel attachment... js
Good luck finding one at Pull-A-Part!
He caught it just in time.
Midnight Mystery I was thinking I’ve seen worse rusted cars. That car can be cleaned, prepped, painted, fluid film, a few things replaced and it’s new
I wish you the best of luck with your purchase Eric!
I'd love, and I mean LOVE to see a nut and bolt restoration of the Type R. Build it up to a condition where you won't be embarrassed to show it off to people who know what they're looking at but can be enjoyed on the back roads without worrying too much :p
Looks like your luck has turned around(Dad's truck)! Great deal on the parts! It needs some love but you are the right guy to bring her back to her former glory. I would get her done now so that you can just enjoy her all summer.
Legend has it that Eric has OEM Acura blood!
His blood type is R
I’m a huge type r bseries guy so I love the blood type lol great one
Super happy for you man I got mine 4 years ago and spent $25k on restoration back to stock all done in house which i was fortunate to purchase alot of the parts before it got discountinued within the last 2 years all I need is sport tires and I will be driving it for the first time this spring get ready for the journey of perfection I will be watching
Pretty clean for a winter car I have seen 10 times more rust on a winter vehicle then that
Garage kept at least
Glad to see you got yourself a new toy, I credit you and your videos for helping me replace my motor myself in my 98 civic. I watched your videos for reference and got it driving again back in 2014 when the head gasket blew at 190k. This new video made me reminisce about the old Honda days lol glad to see you're still going strong!!
While I like the car content, the story about your son is beautiful. You're a good man, Eric.
I'm actually so happy for you !!
You deserve it, it was always your car and i think you know that too
"Winter Car" Here on the East Coast in Canada, this would be considered mint.
Welshy no, no it wouldnt. Dont lie.
Major facts..especially here in toronto👍
@@iDayVids this is facts lol...people hiding type r in their garage in the winter time
Davie Blaze I wouldn’t consider it, but the kid selling it from Sackville would.
I will be glued to the integra videos you will put up as I need motivation and help
Take it to Eric O. in his eyes this would be surface rust.
It's very mild surface rust... That's a fact.
But if he wants this 'rare car brought back... or "restored" --- then yeah, I can see that being an issue in 10 years when he's trying to sell it and double his money.. Can't have rust on that day.
Exactly what I was going to say. Eric O would love to see this at SMA.
it's largely surface rust in my eyes as well.
lol like he's going to drive it from Ohio to NY...
You get all the greatness of the R and you have none of the anxiety that would go with a pristine model. You can go out and rip it, put some miles on it, and not care. Perfect.
*I turned my Special Edition Integra to a Type R. Everything except the red interior stitching, I got a Type R DOHC Vtec engine and made it a Type R, I don't tell everyone I have a Type R, I just tell them I got a Integra SE.*
You just went up another notch in my book. Saving the type r!
The Legendary B18...
for me a b18 means an old volvo 1.8cc engine. That is legendary for me :P
Beautiful teg, worthy of your attention and love! Restore it and keep a piece of history! Even with all its imperfections it's gorgeous!
Oh...a fixin it forward project in the near future..😊
I'm in love with this car and I'm even more in love with the idea of watching you fix it up and making it clean in your own special way, Eric. Also I feel for your son, must have sucked so bad for him.
I remember wanting one of these 20 years ago, and thinking, "I'll just wait for them to come down in price a bit more..."
Oof.
You stil waiting lol..sigues esperando q bajen de precio ( nunca ) jaja..al contrario cada vez cuestan mas...lol.

Congrats on the car! Looks like a twin to mine!! I purchased an ITR on Bat last year with 19k miles on it. Such a great little car, congrats and I'm looking forward to more videos!
My GSR has tons of rust and fucked paint. I look forward to watching you restore this for tips :P
I'm super happy for you, Eric. Enjoy!
Do whatever makes you happy with Black Beard, Eric. No, I wouldn't have paid that much for it, but that's really irrelevant, isn't it?
We all have overpaid for the things we love
@@seeya205 Cinnabon, car parts, that girl in high school that I haven't seen in 18 years.... yeah, we have
Make it that girl that I have not seen it 50 years that cost me a small fortune and a lot of work for nothing.....lol
Ultimately, yes you paid too much. But! sometimes you have one chance the cash in on your "dream" and you either strike, expense be damned, or lose out. What the right move is, is subjective and circumstantial for the dreamer.
@@Adam-lq5kg This has a Slim Shady vibe to it. With your alien avatar, you must be... Martian Mathers!
Bring it back to full glory. I love hondas and love your videos. I learn a lot with you in order to fix my 98 civic and 93 concerto here in Portugal. Can't wait to learn some more.
Maybe one day I'll have my Ek9 type r dream car.
Congratulations!
call that corrosion?? great shape for 20 years in salt belt..
CAR IS A KEEPER ERIC!! I recently bought a 06 T.L loved it!

Awesome Eric! I think you've got the best idea. Bring it back to life mostly stock with a few upgrades like CAI and exhaust. It's all it needs
The Integra Type R: "The best thing that Honda Civic ever made."
He said best dang Honda Civic ever made
Lol no nsx or s2k
I would put an NSX above this and the s2000.
@@alberth5551 Bang for the buck's not even close.
Daniel Gonzalez nsx and s2k are not based on the civic so....
Niiice. I saw this up for auction and almost pulled the trigger on getting it. I already have an Integra and love the line. Congratulations on getting this amazing car.
Yes.....headers, intake, exhaust and get rid of those crusty parts and install those parts you've been holding on for years. V-techin all summer long, yo.
Way to go Eric it's worth every penny. The holy grail is a right hand drive but this is just fine. The tuning is still going to be massive fun.
P.S. No Eric there is no mistaking the Integra type R and the Civic type R! Both icons of JDM tuning.
OMG I MISS MY 00 gsr WT A TYPE R WING
If anyone could see the potential into this car, it's you! So happy to see you have your dream car. Shout out to your wife for supporting you on this purchase!
Honda lovers dream, I'm looking forward to some Tasteful enhancements and "restoration"
Dad jokes keep me alive. Haha! Mr.thecarguy, I've been watching your vids since 09 when I was just a kid! You've put in the time to help many people (especially me) and deserve so much. I could not be happier to see you get the fairmont and Type R! You the man Eric and I can't wait for the next video!
So they used that type r as a daily driver.. omg
I'd rather it get driven instead of just sitting in a garage collecting dust
Hey man, glad you finally got your dream car. Seeing that you’ve waited years to finally have it, give it all you got man. Restore it, we’d all love to see a restoration of that beautiful piece of engineering history !
15:30 -- Black Beard the Type ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Amirite 😏
He even nailed the voice
You lucky bastard! I’m glad it went to someone who’s going to bring her back to life, and not cut it up for parts!
I love Hondas. Great engines. But what's essentially a 20 year old civic for $20k+? That would be a hard no lol. Is the cost of these just because of the rarity?
It's no Civic!
Yes. He says it best when he referred to it as a unicorn. Would you pay 20k for a unicorn? Me neither.
Tf man
@@TreyCook21 Freaking right I would pay $20k for a unicorn! I could make millions off it! Civics of this age have little to no value but the Type R is just going to go up in value. If he gets it mint, he can almost double his money right now!
@@seeya205 Very true. I should have said, if I had the extra 20k and the knowledge to fix it, then yes it would be a great investment. I'd ride that unicorn all around town! Sadly, I can only tell my friends I saw one and hope they believe me.
Congrats man the Integra Type R is my absolute favorite car of all time. Well done.
It's just like my BMW a good 20 footer, looks good from 20 feet away. Really nice car though!
I own one ! Australian. Had it since 2004. long ram air intake 4 into one headers, high flow cat, carbon cannon muffler, short shifter, rear strut brace in the boot original from japan. adjustable coil overs, original mats in mint condition Apexi RSM +++++ love these cars good luck with the build !! Gud investment
AzyPebble berry gud
Glad you bought it. Needs to be saved, good luck on it. Previous owner had no idea what they had. It's JDM gold. just dont leave it parked & unattended anywhere!
Rust is cancer for cars.
I honestly think that car deserves to be restored to a factory condition. You won’t retreat it. You have the shop, you have the tools, so?? Start stripping the car and making videos. We will enjoy to watch the best integra type R coming to factory condition. Just my 2 cents...
Eric a true gem. I would mildly do the upgrades you mentioned and also keep it stock. That what I have done with my 08 SI sedan so its tastefully done. Great channel keep all those good videos coming. Regards EQ
