Used this on my 06' Accord EX. The small control arm was worn just like in your video. Getting the plastic parts back in their proper places was the hardest part! Wipers work perfectly now, smooth and quiet. Well done, thanks!
I really started to get into you about a year and a half ago. I remember getting off from work (shitty UPS) all dirty and bruised up with some Subway, ready to flop down on the couch and watch your videos. I had pretty shitty roommates at the time too. Your videos and my food helped me escape the times.
Thank you for this video. Because of this video, I was able to fix my Honda Accord. I too had to buy the parts from Honda directly. I paid just under $28 ($14 a piece). The arms popped off the first time I snapped them on. In other words, I didn't have them snapped on all the way. So...I had to do this repair twice. So far so good. I have used the wipers and they no longer hit the side of my car nor do they "hop" across the windshield. Again, thank you for posting this video. It was really helpful and saved me probably $200-$300.
Thank You Eric the car guy :) been needing this for over a year now. Last year bought new wipers since the middle of my windshield wouldn’t wipe going down to find it never really helped so I tried removing wiper arms same still. Then your other video saying it was these bushing or washers and now I know I can fix the problem and finally use the mat black paint I got for the arms. Thank you ETCG
No excessive play on the wipers of my '95 Accord but I had the paint issue. a little bit of black paint et off we go ! thanks for the video Eric, very usefull as always
Great Video Eric - These are the kinds of ETCG videos I love. The only thing that would have made it better is if you drilled through the water jacket and started throwing tools!
Thank you for making this video, looked at theis one and one other, you made it very easy to follow the steps and install a replacement. Saved me a lot of time and $. Keep up the good work!
This problem (wiper blade hitting the A colum) was getting me crazy, thanks to your video I solved it. I was thinking to buy the entire assembly, motor 185, the rest of the assembly 130, so I end up paying 41.50 for both rods.
Have a similar issue with my 98 CG5 Accord, but it is not easy to buy cheap new parts in Australia, decided to fix the nylon joint with four cable ties and it works.
Thank you! Just fixed this problem on my 2006 Honda Element. I just bought the individual bushings. If you have this problem, usually no reason to replace the whole arms!
Thanks so much Eric. Been looking for a specific video for a repair of this nature for the last 4/5 years until recently. Ordered the new rods for my Honda Prelude wiper transmission and it worked like a charm. Now just have to work on resetting them so that the motor stops them at the bottom of the window rather than in the middle when turning them off.

Great video, and great information. I currently have a '96 Accord that has this exact problem, and I had NO idea that it could be fixed so easily. I was expecting that I would have to change the entire wiper transmission.
Yeah, my 97 saturn has this issue as well. I'm not sure it's as easy as popping off the arm like you did, because I feel like the saturn has everything more permenantly fixed, but this video was good to see regardless. Another fun fact about the saturn, the wiper assembly is tucked way back up in the car and it's nearly impossible to remove without moving the wiper blades up to around 45 degrees and doing a whole lot of fiddling with the assembly. Another fun fact about the saturn, it's got bolts in the passenter compartment, so to get the assembly off you have to pull out the whole dash and take out some bolts to get the assembly out. I guess it's fair because the saturn is a subcompact, but it's so so much harder to do on the saturn, I know because I've replaced my wiper motor THREE TIMES on the stupid thing.
Looking good again and easy with your tutorial :-D A frends car had slightly worse, one of the plastic cups was so worn that the arm just fell off, my nasty bodge was to find a clear plastic bag and stretch it over the ball, then push the cup back on, it took the play up. He got home in the rain with wipers, that was last year, and its still working, too good a bodge lol.
@theyermany yep, fabrication of small plastic parts like these is an increasing necessity. 3d printers and CAD make that easier but a bit of old fashioned machining can go a long way. Especially if you can make a longer lasting part than the OEM plastics.
Thanks for the video. Gave the confidence to look into my 2013 CRV issue myself. Driver's side arm was moving as you demonstrated at the start of your clip, but I tried just tightening the bolt on that side first and that seems to have fixed it. Not sure if that's a common occurrence. In any case, now I know how to get to the wiper transmission for the future.
I've done this on my Subaru. You can plug the motor back in without bolting everything back together, turn the wipers on then off. Wipers always go back to the down position. Also, I had an issue where the assembly wasn't oriented properly so the wipers were going backwards (towards the engine lol). This can help you avoid assembling and removing several times.
Can this be performed without unbolting the motor from the arm first. The arms currently are not exactly in the ready position and I was afraid if I cycled the motor it might damage the new linkage
@@hdfbrider32 As I mentioned above, once you pull the wipers off, you can just turn them on (intermittent). You'll see when it's gone back to the down position. Then turn key off. When you reinstall everything, just make sure you install the wipers in the down position. I neglected to take note when I did it, and the wipers went went towards the wing mirror lol Make sure you check that everything is working the way it should, before you put everything back together (another one of my mistakes)
Eric, A very good instructional video. It is clear and concise with sharp video shots. Yes, I would have wiped the balls too but I can see how this could be forgotten when producing a video.

Dorman sells the plastic bushings after-market. The whole set was $4.99 if I recall correctly. I used them on a Ford a few years ago and they're holding up just fine.
Hey Eric, THANKS for the video on the Honda Odyssey slide door rollers!! We had to do one today, our first one, and found your video, it really helped out (and was funny when the piece of the taillight broke, LOL), and we gave you a shout out in the beginning and end of the video, THANKS ERIC!
A note to be careful with impact tools near windshield, excessive vibration can cause cracks to appear (usually when you're not looking or overnight following distrubance). I know this from bitter experience.
As far as I know Honda is the only one that makes just the arms while aftermarket companies like Dorman only make the whole wiper transmission assembly and they're nearly as expensive as the dealer anyway. I actually got lucky because Canadian Tire deals with an aftermarket company called "Certified" and they do make wiper transmission assembly's extremely cheap and they're even painted too! I picked up a whole wiper transmission for my 2000 TL for only 60 bucks and even has a 2 year warranty to boot!
Dorman 49464 is just the bushing kit. Disregard the year listing, they it fits more than listed. www.dormanproducts.com/p-100073-49464.aspx?origin=keyword

I know this is an old video, but I have a question I'm hoping you'll be able to answer. Is it possible that the bolt holding the driver's side wiper has just come loose, and just needs to be tightened down?
I saw there are plastic bushings on the two parts you replaced. And there are linkage bushing on autozone. I wonder if I can get those plastic bushings replaced to fix this problem
