This settles it. I’m way too lazy to own a Cybertruck.
😅
Smart. Too smart to buy a piece of garbage.
“How to deal with rust on my brand new $100k vehicle” like that’s something normal. 😂
💯
just take care of it lmao
@@user-ti6di6vt2q dont wash it, dont drive it, dont buy it
for the tesla cult that's completely normal and we should embrace this new tradition.
It's so sad....
Nice to see your experience with the your Cybertruck and your take on it. I can confidently say that it wasn’t the bar keepers friend soft cleanser that scratched the Cybertruck but rather it was the scrub daddy and other pads you used. I’ve worked on multiple Cybertruck using bar keepers friends soft cleanser without any scratching and or issues and I have videos on it, hence where I’m sure you got the idea to use ONR to clean smudges.
this right here, cant believe he used the scrub daddy lol.
@@OTAC0N lol 😆 yea that was pretty wild but you live and you learn 👍🏻
There’s a zero percent chance I’d have a cybertruck and not wrap it. Great video!
This just proves that it's a poor choice of material in the first place. Everyone is going to have to pay a premium to make it serviceable. Nice.
Thorough like always 👍
I’ve had a technician come out and change the panels on my stainless steel fridge because it got scratched once. And I was using stainless steel product to clean it. They told me a secret. Those suck and don’t work. They said the best thing to use for stainless steel is wood cleaner. Like pledge wood cleaner. Or wood furniture polish the one that sprays out like foam not the oil kind. And do it with a micro towel. I use that on all my appliances at home and it coats it and comes out spotless. But you have to go with the grain of the stainless steel. Try that on a section. All my stainless steel in my kitchen is spotless and that’s what I use.
Oh shoot. Thanks for the tip
Yep. I use Murphys oil spray.
Love your vids. As a new CT owner you have helped me the most.
thanks for the science lesson!
If I bought a Cybertruck, I am going to use it like a real working truck. No babying. Just a quick rinse off if it gets too mucky.
Never start your sander on the surface or let it stop on the surface - this will cause scratches as the random sanding pad starts up while pushed on the surface.
Thank you! You convinced me to wrap the truck as soon as I get it.
I literally recoiled in horror when you started using the scrub daddy. I've used the BKF soft cleanser several times on my whole truck and its never left a scratch, but I used a microfiber applicator every time. Basically use BKF soft cleanser for deep cleans, and the foam spray for upkeep.
Yes.. I thought non abrasive sponges were ok. But stay with the microfiber towel
Dood such a good video luv it !!
Awesome video!
Thanks Buffy!
And here I thought stainless steel was chosen because it is rust and hassle free. But it is just as vulnerable as the traditional finishes, just looking way worse and costing much more.
Lmao, this dude is hilarious. "Do you think my parents took me off roading?" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Love the humor, man, and videos are always great.
Asians don’t off-road lolll
@EverydayChris 😁 hope to see you change that. Everyone needs a little off-road in their life. Let's see what these trucks can do!
😂😂😂
Chris, you have made an excellent case for wrapping the CT. I think the stainless finish looks great, personally, but sheesh!!
Totally agree!
Cool Thanks what brand was the no rinse wash and shine? Thanks!
Just look up onr! I linked it in the description as well
Nice Video Chris! I love it!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice video, sheeesh!
Thanks! Glad I saw this before my truck arrives.
Pro tip - if the stainless steel is damaged by Barkeep's friend, it's junk level stainless steel and either Elon knows this or his suppliers are lying to him. I can get a perfect finish with the stuff on almost everything, but this getting damaged by even a microfiber cloth? Trash tier materials for sure.
EDIT - 301 stainless steel is known for its strength, ease of tooling, low cost (this is key!), and slightly better than average acid resistance. But it's nearly as soft as pure iron and scratches incredibly easily. Most cookware is made out of the stuff for this reason as nobody cares if the inside of your pan is scratched.
I knew it.. there's no way bkf should be scratching REAL stainless steel THAT easy
@@EverydayChris The reason they use it for cooking is because you can safely cook things like pasta sauce in it, and in this application, it's acid rain resistant as well as, say, resistant to bird droppings. Except - it's soft. So you can't hardly use anything other than a microfiber towel and polish or wax on it. Ie - zero grit and some sort of silicone based cleaner from what I can tell. ie - Novus #1 or wood polish. lol. Seriously.. Elon elon elon... what a muppet. lol.
Have you tried using white distilled vinager?
That 300 grade means, that the steel is containing nickel, chromium and molybdenum, which should give some acid resistance. These steels are not famous of hardness or scratch restance. You can use Scotts Brite to scratch those. It is also troughout same material, so the corrosion resistance will not change if you scratch it.
Hello Chris, I used IronX on my Cybertruck and rinsed it off after it turned purple as you did in the video. However, ironx is leaving vertical streaks throughout the stainless steel panels. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for your timely response in advance.
Just keep rinsing it off! Also, make sure to wash the car again with soap. Usually if you rinse it off and don't rinse ALL of it and it dries it can leave some marks. If you have any more iron x spray the streaks again
@@EverydayChris thanks. I was able to get rid of the streaks.
I use a little baking soda on the rust spots that crop up on my stainless steel appliances
Sand, salt, acid and a squeeze of lemon for the perfect cleaning mix. Make sure to use a wire brush 😂😂😂
Omg what a pain in the ass. Unless it’s properly wrapped and protected no go. This stainless finish would drive me nuts Chris. I love the truck otherwise. But would not want stainless.
Hey Chris, I’m pretty sure it’s been said by Tesla the steel used is “ 304L “. Good video 😊
It's apparently 301 in the ones they are shipping. A step down to save cost, and a lot softer. Good asic resistance, though - so yay vs bird droppings? lol. But scratches like your plastic screen on your monitor, almost.
Craziest thing I heard all day “ smells like a skunk spray it on your entire car”
this man is wild
Nice video! I like how you restored the finish after messing it up. Haha
Question: do you think if you applied a ceramic coating such as xpel fusion or geyeon - that worst case you can just use the cordless polisher to remove the coating?
I have heard a lot of mixed reviews on why not to coat the cybertruck with a ceramic coating to help make it easier to clean. And they are suggesting to ppf instead.
Do you have any comments in regard to ceramic coating the stainless steel?
Gonna apply coating soon! Lots of tests. But it will still show those scratches.
There's no way you'd be able to use a machine polisher and get consistent results back to OEM look. It's going to give it a chrome like finish. I'm waiting to see who will be the first to buff out a cybertruck.
Chris have you gotten any rock chips on the stainless steel?
😂 of course not lol
I love the looks of this truck. I don’t much care for Elon or his politics and I’m coming to realize EV addresses none of the systemic issues related to climate change. *BUT* it’s still good to see someone realize a goal like owning one of these beasts and taking so much genuine joy in it. So hey 👋. Cheers! 🥂
You don’t like that he’s not a far left liberal?
@@josephstone2280 Guy's an idiot - he bought the entire EV climate protection BS yet he STILL is left leaning. You can't make this stuff up
300 series stainless is fairly resistant to corrosion, but not corrosion proof. It's probably wise to remove any surface corrosion before it contaminates the steel under the passivated layer. While 300 series stainless can be pretty durable, as in resistant to fracturing, it's not particularly hard, which means it could scratch easily. ANY abrasive in Barkeeper's Friend can produce fine scratches, not to mention contaminated sponges/washcloths, etc. Also, despite the durability, this type of steel work hardens, and can be stubborn to fix dents because of this characteristic.
I have mixed feelings about raw stainless exterior. It's novel, and has some nice properties, but I tend to think it's probably more finicky than paint. And the few cybertrucks I've seen around town seem to have a weird splotchy appearance. Maybe they were just dirty, but it wasn't what I'd call good looking.
What a pain! It's a nice truck, but I honestly don't have time for that. :)
Chris amazing video BUT shouldn’t Tesla have specific instructions for owners on best practices to clean cybertruck? Seems like you were testing things out bc they did NOT provide you with info!!!
Yeah nothing specific which sucks. Maybe by the time the regular non foundation comes out
People start freaking out when they see iron deposits on a cybertruck but don’t talk about it on other vehicles 🤦♂️. It’s just easier to notice on reflective/bright surfaces vs. paint. It’s a problem on all vehicles especially since other vehicles around are producing iron air particles every time they brake.
Wrap should do the trick
I saw you outside my house dude
I went to check out the Cybertruck at a Tesla showroom and the guy managing the truck there cleaned it with glass cleaner. Wasn't Windex specifically, so not sure about ammonia.
Yeah ammonia free for window tint works great
Tonneau - it’s like “Tonto” without the second “t.”
Show me your truck in ten years and lets see how it looks then with all those chemicals you put on it.
K! Make sure to subscribe and turn on notifications!!
Your next video:
Dont do this: ruin your drive way with iron x...
But it will never come..
@@EverydayChris 😂 - ok then...
Thx for your great work!
Why the door panel was always different from the rest of the vehicle?
they have diff colors based on environment
The rail train rust is such copium. The freaking manual says bug guts will rust the vehicle and to wash them off immediately after driving.
How the hell did you guys not know about the De Lorean? Did you really think Tesla could do better with the same damn material?
Wow pretty complicated
Wife: "Chris, can you clean out the clutter from the spare room today?" .. Chris: "Um, ya...I have to do that car wash video today." .. Wife: "But it's raining outside." .. Chris: "Um, ya, well you see, we live in California, and it's not going to rain for another 6 months, so this is my "Last Chance" to make a Tesla Cybertruck Car Wash Video 'In The Rain' - No one else on the Internet has one of those."
Haha
Are you going to do a wrap and call it Darth Vader, next to Storm Trouper.
Haha. It’s storm breaker!!! And I’ll wrap it eventually
I hope tinted windows too.
You are saying Tonneau correctly.
So in short, use dish soap and iron x only?
Only for the first time to remove rust! Otherwise neutral car wash soap is fine
You must have tried every car product under the sun over the years of owning Tesla's.
Irvine Company?
You know having a natural patina on a vehicle may actually raise the value of said vehicle. Just a thought, TMYK.
DIY detail channel says not to use bar keepers friend
They have a series on how to clean the Cybertruck. NOTE: That channel is basically an infomercial for their car detailing products. I haven't used their products so I don't know if they are good or not.
Why does the Tesla website say bugs and bird droppings should be removed promptly ?
Bird droppings have urea/ ammonia in it
its the standard they say for all cars
Did you delete my comment??
I don’t think so but don’t use the comments section very much so might have
I bought a brand new 2018 Ford Escape and The entire underbelly had rust. I wrote Ford and they said it was perfectly fine just superficial. The wheels haven’t fallen off yet but still don’t like it.
The delorean had better steel
Wow...what's this piece of giant metal? Never seen a truck so ugly and unpainted. And it will rust? Must be high maintenance. Life is not easy.
Ammonia free windex for tinted windows
what about wd40
Another vid coming! I used it as a coating. Works well
"the rust is actually normal and fine cuz it's on the surface"
"Dude! Great video. Good to know when I get my Cybertruck!"
My 17 year old Chevy has STARTED to rust. It's 17 years old.... what's CyberRust's excuse?
What happened to todays video I went to watch it and it disappeared
??? Not sure! check my home page
WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU USE A PRODUCT NOT DESIGNED FOR VEHICLES REGARDLESS IF IT SAY FOR STAINLESS STEEL!
The number of products available for stainless steel vehicles are pretty much near zero at this point. It’s not a huge leap to believe that something that is safe for a stainless steel appliance should be okay for a stainless steel vehicle. Clearly, people are learning as they go.
These are different when it comes to cleaning and upkeep vs. a painted panel. It's a bit of learning curve for everyone.
So, this is all just a commercial for the 8 affiliated cleaning products you pinned to the top.
Untreated stainless is dumb. My Samsung fridge has a coating for heaven's sake.
Unless you're the type who never has a spec of dirt on their car, like full OCD fashion, then this machine is not for you.
Still wondering who it's actually targeted for.
Lol a 100k car that you had to rust prevent is just silly
Happens on all cars
@@patches8291 how does Elon taste 👅
@macfou144 like rust
@@patches8291 Not one bit of rust on my base model Mustang. This isn't rocket science, folks. I do wash and wax my car every 2-4 weeks, but that's not uncommon for someone who is into cars. Also, there are no odd panel gaps or water leaks. Just regular paint on a Ford. lol.
$120k to worry about a badly made vehicle 😂
My 1963 Ford F100 is laughing with hysterics. What a bunch of stupid nonsense. Why would anyone by a stupid Cyber truck. I know someone stupid.
