On the manual blip heal toe down shift you mentioned, you have to wait until the you shift out of the higher gear before you blip the throttle, once the shifter is out of the higher gate, in neutral, or in the downshifted gear, the computer will allow the engine blip/rev freely for proper manual heel toe downshifts. I agree it is a bit annoying not to be able to start the blip while in the higher gear, but once you get used to blipping the throttle mid-gear change the manual heel toe process works great. It just adds another element of timing to get correct on your down shifts. Hope this is helpful, give it a try.

Porsche makes cars for cars lovers. 911 R is made for collectors but Porsche didn't forget those who like driving great cars, so they made the gt3 touring who's more affordable but still great. They respect theirs clients. Let's hope they'll continue to do so for long. Long live naturally aspirated engines.

  • @Carbondan

I absolutely 100% agree with you on the heel-toe problem - I have the exact same issue with my 2018 GT3 manual. It's the worst choking feeling as the nannies suppress what should be a beautifully free revving engine. It is my one and only big complaint about the GT3, otherwise, I consider it the best car I've ever owned and a lifetime keeper. I daily drive mine. Drove it from Seattle to California for a track weekend at thunderhill last week (2300 miles round trip) and will be doing the same for a trip down to Laguna Seca next month (~3000 miles round trip). Currently sitting around 12k glorious miles.
The heel toe problem is related to Porsche's no-lift-upshift coding. Essentially, the ECU thinks that when you press the clutch in and then press on the throttle, that you are planning on no lift upshifting, so it holds the revs constant. Problem is the thresholds for this are way out of wack. It should only engage no lift upshifting if you are sitting at 100% throttle (hence, NO LIFT upshift). If throttle percentage is 95% or lower, it should allow the engine to rev freely. I hope a tuner can sort that feature out - I will gladly pay to update the ECU code to get rid of no lift upshifting, which is a gimmick at best and potentially catastrophic at worst.

Awesome review, I couldn't agree with your points more - not just about how great it is, but also about the Touring moniker. I'm glad that was the only part of the car that seems to have been an afterthought - blame the marketing department! ;)
I have had mine for almost 3 years and it is the first car out of about 50 cars I've had that I plan to keep forever - a status I thought no car would ever earn with me. It is certainly better than all the rest. Over 30,000 miles (or perhaps much more!) and going super strong still! I am not sure how many track days I've been to, but it's handled them all perfectly.

@@TheCarGuysTV what would you have more appropriately named this model of Porsche if you didn't have to worry about upsetting 911R owners like Porsche had to do? I would have named it either:
      1. 911 GT - simple, straightforward, shouldn't bother 911R or GT3 owners, and doesn't imply it's a soft version. Bonus: it was written on the first GT car (993 GT2)
      2. Carrera R - obviously would piss of 911R owners, but follows the precedent of Cayman R.

I own a 2019 GT3 Touring (US model). I have no trouble heel toeing the revs as high as needed. I run sport mode off and use it all the time. Also, when the car is rolling at least 3mph put the car in neutral and you can free rev all the way to red line. Totally agree this is my forever car. 12,000 miles already!

Here I am nearly two years after you posted this video. So a belated "thank you" for a very lovely and thoughtful video. I had a 991.2 GT3 and loved it as a daily driver. I now have a 992 Turbo S as it was better suited for our home in Old Town Alexandria, VA where I lived at the time - a historic area with homes from the late 1700s, a couple cobblestone streets and a thriving restaurant where George Washington, Benjamin Franklin joined other friends for dinner. BTW, I had asked a question after watching your Turbo S review (Clive's Guards Red TTS) wondering if he had the Sport-PASM suspension based on your comments about the ride. Here in the U.S. on the Rennlist Member Forum, the divide between regular and S-PASM is as set in concrete as firmly as the debates about PDK vs. manual transmission, winged vs. Touring GT3 and the two political parties. I have regular PASM and am totally happy with it and I like a firm ride and sometimes drove my GT3 with the suspension in track mode.
Aside from an automatic family sedan, I always had a manual transmission sports/sporty car until 2010 when cars like 911 Turbo were only available with PDK. I loved double-clutch, heel-and-toe downshifting so I was aghast and disappointed to learn that it might not be fully defeatable. Last week I visited a Porsche dealer where I've purchased cars in the past. I was told that it is defeatable in the 992 generation. I hope that is true because the experience that you described in a race-bred sports car is hugely disappointing. At the risk of winning an award for the longest comment in the history of YouTubism, I will close. Oh, wait. Here is a video of my 991.2 GT3 that I did with a friend four years ago. Cheers! Love your videos!

I share similar feelings of the GT3 Touring! I’m a little biased as I have one in the same spec (with the ceramics) and I will never sell this car. I agree wholeheartedly that this one is for life. (I’d love a 911r to admire in my garage though!)

Mine doesn’t do that. I can give it a good rev between gears. In fact I use that very tactic to give a nice boom when coming up behind slower cars on the autobahn to let them know I’m there. 6 to 5 to 4. Maybe even 3 if under 120. Boom. Boom. Boom. Then a nice wringing to 9 which is about 175 km in 3 and then 225 in 4. Leaves the autobahn and the citizens awash in exhaust scream. I seem to get out half the time with ringing ears and talking very loudly. If you get to Germany, check out the roads on the southern side of the Mosel river from Koblenz to Trier that go up and down to the river. Not much traffic and lots of fun. And the 3 south of Frankfurt towards Munich. And then the Grossglockner in Austria. Stay on the hill so you can drive the road at dawn before the toll road opens and the citizens turn up. Best road in Europe. Got a nice picture of mine and a Speedster together up there. Would always have the Touring above a Speedster. And yes a total keeper.

It's so refreshing to hear a true enthusiast: I'm so pleased you're using your car as a daily and intend to get some REAL use out of it.
Although I only have a lowly 991.1 C4S it's all the car I could want and despite being told I would ruin the value if I piled on the miles, I never think about how far I'm driving because life in the car is so much more enjoyable than life out of it...
Keep up the great work and enjoying your Touring 👍

I could understand maybe if it was that way for first gear to protect the engine against a money shift but I'll never understand how anyone at Porsche thought it was a great idea to sell a manual shift car with half the fun of actually driving a manual electronically neutered...How can you possibly make time down a twisty road when you have to lug the engine out of every 2nd and 3rd gear corner? very disappointing "feature" indeed. I know i would be searching for a way to disable it.... especially a car i planned to keep for the long haul. Cheers!

Great video as normal Damian and the GT3 Touring would definitely be in my garage, I do think you should give an Aston Martin V12 S AMR manual a look as well, I'd definitely have one alongside the GT3 Touring.

Because they are mostly used as shelves. You could maybe put a baby or two, but that's it and for some short drives, because the car would be space restrained for baby stuff space. Not disagreeing, a kid or a dog space would not hurt, but it did well without them, while protecting the gt3 image, saving some extra pennies and no one really cared.

I keep going back and forth on whether to just lump up the cash and get one of these. I'm interested in the point you said about not being able to turn off autoblip. Oddly I've driven a normal 991.2 gt3 and without sport mode on there didn't seem to be any odd interactions whatsoever. Did they change something in this car? You should come on the podcast at some point, would be nice to meet.
