This is it! We drive the mighty Porsche Carrera GT - something we have been wanting to drive ever since we started this channel. And now it’s finally here!
Prepare for your ears to be blasted and your eyes to be melted in a full review and drive in this incredible 600bhp supercar - one of Porsche’s greatest ever cars.
Find out all about the history, the controls, the way the car behaves on the road, what Damian and Jason think of it, that carbon clutch - and of course, experience THAT NOISE of the naturally-aspirated 5.7 litre V10 engine. One of the all time great powerplants.
Will TheCarGuys stall the car? Exactly how much of a pain is that carbon clutch? What’s the noise like at full chat? How does it handle? What’s the interior like? What are its performance figures? And will it come to TheCarGuys garage? All these questions and more will be answered in this week’s episode.
Special thanks to: the Octane Collection for supplying this car, which is currently for sale. Call 01483 338901 or visit the website - www.theoctanecollection.com

In my very humble opinion, the Carrera GT is easily worth one million pounds. When your average saloon is pushing one hundred thousand pounds, the GT commands and deserves the figures quoted. Another superb video, gentlemen!
👍🏻👍🏻
I was at he car show when this thing was first shown to the world. It was just the coolest thing anyone had ever seen at the time.
The most underrated automotive TH-cam channel, period!
You’re too kind
Too true!😀
Glad you enjoyed it buddy, but not for me
@@stevehodkinson9768 share your thoughts on what you think is a more underrated channel. I'd like to know.
@@johnrb9397 I meant the video on the Porsche, glad they enjoyed it but the car is not for me 👍
Without a shadow of a doubt my favourite ever car guys episode… WHAT A CAR…really appreciate the way you put so much detail into your episodes, all other car channels should take note 👌🏻
As a long time subscriber, I felt so happy for you guys getting the chance to drive one of your dream cars. Keep it up ❤
An incredible piece of engineering, I was lucky enough to witness about a month before release, watching Walter Rohl treat Lord marche for a couple of laps of Goodwood, just by luck I arrived at the track saw a couple of Marshall scattered around then all of a sudden a people carrier filming Walter, driving real slow, then it pulled in and Walter absolutely nailed it, literally fish tailing half way up the straight, the sound was like nothing I'd ever heard!!! A memory I will never forget,
The original pure one beautiful
The replacement clutch isn’t £35k. It’s £9k as part of an engine out service and last for ages if operated correctly.
The clue is in your name
I'm six minutes in and can only applaud your presentation of this marvelous machine already. The amount of effort you put into the video with narration, plus all the carefully selected extra foto/video media, is simply outstanding. Superb, Carguys!
Now start that engine already. 🤠
I genuinely wasn’t aware a CGT sounded like that! Wow. But…you are absolutely right about that clutch. Great vid guys
Remember going to the ring (12-13 years ago) with circuit days and a guy came along with a yellow RS4 and blue CGT. He knows how to drive it and never forget the sound it was bloody epic. I like the understated cabin, less is more.👌
I like the way each of you translates to us what it is like to drive that (as best you can). There is something very live and raw. Some guys reviewing cars have already been driving them for hours or days and give their review, but we get to see you sit in and turn the key and the immediate thoughts that go through your heads, I think that makes these videos a bit more special and accessible for viewers, those immediate moments of excitement. Thanks for this.
Thank you very much
Excellent video. Well done - really shows off the car. My favorite since way before it was a favorite of TH-camrs. I taught English at the Porsche factory in Leipzig where - and when they built them. I remember being in class and hearing a shrieking engine, assuming it was a motorcycle on the autobahn. One of the guys was like "no, they're testing a Carrera GT". That sound really is epic. I remember having a tour of the factory and they had three or four of them at the very end of the production line, all being polished, with an A4 piece of paper taped to each, with "Los Angeles", "Singapore", "Dubai" or whatever on them..
Great story, glad you liked the episode
It's still an epic looking car and has got better with age in a time when some new cars, now get over-designed. Glad you finally got to drive one.
My all time favourite car but terrifies me. Had the pleasure of driving one 150 or so miles, spectacular until it rained at which point I have never been more scared in a car (and I’ve been passenger in a few big crashes) Congratulations on the clutch, I stalled it the first time!
Smiled throughout the entire video! Thank for making it!
This was a very special video, thanks for sharing this with all of us!
You’re welcome, Stefan
Carbon fibre prepreg made in Wrexham,Wales and Germany went into the CGT. ATR composites then moulded the chassis and other bits in Italy. Fun fact ATR did both the CGT and Enzo chassis moulding....
The clutch is thankfully not £35,000. It is less than half that fitted (I know - I replaced mine just last year) - still a lot of course! I know the clutch off the line isn't the easiest - but trust the anti-stall software (which I think is a cool feature!) and it really isn't hard at all. For me it is part of the special nature of a car that absorbs like no other car. Last year I fitted KW suspension on mine (developed by Olaf Manthey himself) and it takes the handling to another level. Anyway, thank you for another great video.
You’ve spotted the traditional “Jason gets his facts completely wrong” section of the video
Just watched Ben Collins - the original Stig saying that this was his favorite car ever on Top Gear but also the trickiest to drive. He said in particular the combination of an ultra sensitive throttle and stiff suspension meant going over bumps at full tilt very very tricky and susceptible to spins.
Thanks for the review gents !
& good luck and go for the 288 (or whatever your goal is now). I hope you get one one day.
288? If you can find one you know how much it would cost!!
@@sugarsaint yes I do
The Intro: OMG!!
The rest of the Video: A pure Loveletter to a piece of Art.
Thank you so much for taking us with you on this super-awesome ride! Also it is nice to see, that you guys although you have driven crazy cars like an Ferrari TdF ort F40 are as frightened and humbled like any other car guy. And the pure joy and excitement in your eyes, pure Gold!
What could possible top this?
Pleasure to have you along for the ride
The 918. Go on jason amd damien treat us all
What a machine from the end of a special era. Great that you got to drive 1, maybe an F50 episode is on the cards......
Finally the moment we’ve been waiting for arrived! What a fantastic experience……really pleased for you both. Just wish I could have been there. Thanks for giving us such amazing content.
One of the greatest videos in the history of TH-cam……well done lads….well done.
I'm late to this party, but my oh my what a sound and what an episode! Thank you guys for bringing it to us!
You're most welcome
Makes no sense this channel doesn't have millions of subs. Excellent!
Appreciate that
Great video and great banter…
CGT is special so special!
I did get to see the LMP2000 lemans car they pinched the engine from at Porsche FOS as Porsche bought it out of the museum for the first time ever! So cool 😎
Probably the most honest review of this car ever, you revealed the wart on the maidens bottom😂 definitely in the top 3 of The Car Guys .
Great video guys, I can’t believe the clutch, you do make me laugh. How about a video on the 959, surely that would be the one to have?
Love the intro shots! Damian and Jason well-done!
TGE likes this
I bet yours has shot up in value! I remember at the time watching your purchase vid and how you predicted it was going to go up in value. Absolute chaos
Outstanding review, thank you both.
Jason "I don't think I'm going to be the same again.." another classic one liner...
Agree, on the clutch, what a mistake on a car, from a maker that is famous for their usability
Keep up the great work, best TH-cam car review show...
Get it bought 😂
Seriously doubtful...you heard Damian go on about fear of running costs right and it being just like a 996, and he didn't really connect with it like Jason did.
It made me smile seeing you finally give the Carrera GT some beans! Well done guys! 👏
Thanks guys, awesome video, must have been a blast. Appreciate the content.
Harmonically and visually stunning. But for a drive the Touring would be more satisfying given the CGT's running costs, sketchy handling and investment?
I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed my car.
Apparently the snappiness was very much down to the original tyres they were sent out to customers with, nearly completely fixed with new compounds. Great video, can’t wait for the ‘egg comparison
Correct. The car on Michelin Super Sports or Cup 2s is far more forgiving - made a massive difference and every owner I know made the switch years ago.
Superb video loved every second of it
what a car, what a beast
It's THE ultimate Porsche
Absolute Dream Car
Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻 really enjoyed it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Epic. My favourite video in a long time. Thank you chaps!
This is such a great video on an iconic car. To see you two back together enjoying cars is just the ticket.
As 'they' say....wow wow wow!! Such a beautiful car. So happy for The Car Guys, it must have been a very special day for both of you. Keep up the great work 😎
Unreal video boys really enjoyed it keep up the good work
I can only tap the like button once which is a shame, at least918 times, lads it was brilliant , thanks ,live the dream
The ultimate widow maker is so special it can take you to the pearly gates if you run out of driving talent. Excellent car.
Great video. No mention of the pitted cam issues that they can also suffer from.
Right about the clutch, there is a (albeit pricey) factory PCCC modification though I think, that was std on cars after circa the 1100th production car up to the 1250 that were finally made. I got one briefly in 2005 when they were struggling to sell them and got it under list at £307,000. Hard to imagine now that they were changing hands in late 2005/2006 second hand for just £250k ! £800k is quite mental.... I'd rather have a more driveable mid 90s 993 Rs club sport and big change or spend a bit more on a 993GT (aka GT2), but it's as classic buggy for to sure...
Nice vid' gents !
Faces said it all! 😁 Fantastic review, thank you. Oh the noises……..
Happy for you guys 👍 it’s a hero car and your video did it real justice
RIP Paul Walker
🤦♂️
Great video guys and what an amazing sounding car, thank you for bringing that to us! 👌
Wow, just wow. CGT, wow. Best vid ever, you should hit more than 100k easy now. Wow.
Majestic content, gentlemen - pure, uncut, peak Car Guys.
This was like meeting the girl you lusted after at school - but were too chicken to ask out - in a bar 17 years after you last saw her. Only this time age and experience (and perhaps a couple of stiff gins) have given you a devil may care attitude to rejection . If you don’t ask you don’t get right. So you stroll up expecting to be Spanish archered, but instead she says, “I knew it was you, how amazing to see you. Did you know I fancied you at school.” From there I’ll let your imagination take over. Yep, it was that good. Seeing your beanage faces. The same face you see when the out-of-your-league girl says yes. A joy to behold. All the Car Guys effort over the last 4 years was worth it. Congrats chaps. So happy you got to live the dream and through you, vicariously, so did we. Truly. Splendid.
👍👍👍 Thanks, mate - beautiful words as always
Friday night with Hobgoblins and I am watching you two guys and grinning my head off .... outstanding. 959 next time
Good Evening Gentlemen I absolutely love this video on the Carrera GT. I have a very important question to ask and it's been a long time waiting.
Would you ever consider or are your opinions on the ZAGATO CARRERA GT I know one very beautiful one was built for a German Business Man the question where is its place in terms of greatness. Thank you
This would be quite the video. 288 GTO, XJ 220, 959, F40, F50 CGT because it’s a pretty analog car even though it’s a lot newer than the others and do a comparison video of what’s the better driving car and ranking them
It’s time to add one to the collection ! Great video Guys.
Fantastic episode guys, truly special. Well done. 👌
Stunning video, glad you were able to experience one of the finest cars Porsche has ever made.
Love the sound of that engine guys, well done.
Thank you so much for creating this beautiful content
Our pleasure!
Happy you got to realise your dream.A very special car.Cheers, enjoyed this very much.
The synchronicity woo hoo hoo hoo from two boys. Hahaha.
Thanks for bringing us along guys, epic car!
That’s a fine badass motor. Nearly as nice as the F40 IMO. Thanks for the review 👍👍👍
Just phenomenal and astonishing
A car decades ahead of its time! Great episode guys!!
They are a thing of beauty, still look modern to this day. I've only ever seen one on the road (in yellow) and I was open mouthed
Great detail and effort putting this together
OMfG, my dream car. I am saving my pennies and working my way up. I'd trade my 992GT3 for this, no problems.
Love the CGT beans. This was one of your best ever uploads. Oh, and speed is not everything, experience is!
You’re a braver man than me holding your car keys over the mid section of the car while explaining the mesh grills! 😳that would be an expensive ding!
Great review guys of a legendary car. Thanks so much for sharing but I do share your concerns of the drivability of this car. Personally I own a Manual Audi R8 V10 which is pretty much the same performance - 0-60pmh in 3.9 secs (pretty much identical with a light tune to 600bhp) and you can drive it all day like a Audi TT in everyday use, seems crazy Audi managed this not Porsche. Looking forward to the next vid, cheers
No where near the same performance. The gt is far superior in handling, sound and speed
Great episode guys. 🐐
Who doesn’t love a GT review complete with a bit of Darth Vader dialogue thrown in ?!...good job guys ..nice to finally see one on the channel..918 next ?..👍🇬🇧🏎
Great video, thanks guys.
Easily the best video of 2024/25
Absolutely loved this video, had me smiling 😀. I also would be pretty scared 😱 and also very excited about driving one. Definitely a “special occasion super car”. 🤝
Another brilliant video! Like with the Koenigsegg video, I’ve never seen anyone drive the car on the British B roads or explain why the car is difficult to get moving at junctions. The sound on this video was excellent and I could really get a sense of that top end scream. I think I would love you guys to review an Enzo Ferrari, a Pagani Zonda and the Mclaren F1. It’s hard to find honest reviews on TH-cam. Once a TH-camr is sponsored by a tyre manufacturer of a car finance company an auction house, I don’t think they can be objective. Also, I like the way you can see the performance numbers properly on your videos. I think you both are so much more interesting than so many other TH-camrs. The feel good factor, humour authenticity has kept me subscribed to your channel.
Thank you for your kind words, G
Great vid..thanks. When it came out, it was part of the trinity with the Enzo and the SLR Mclaren. I still think the Enzo is the most special of the 3. Now that's one I'd like to see here.
Just to advise the Enzo has an appallingly slow and clunky early F1 gearbox that is nearly as bad as the CGT clutch! I didn't own one, but swapped one of my cars with a well known musicians Enzo for 10 days, and it was a bit tortuous to peddle and it's modded 599 engine not that special either and tbh not a patch on a 40 or even a 50 F car!
@@paulthorpe766 thanks for the reply. I have no experience of driving super or hyper cars so accept what you say. I'd still prefer an Enzo over the Porsche, the F40 is my all time favourite.
hi
I've been trying to buy one for over a year with a Budget of 650-700k euro but nothing is available at that price. The ones advertised at 850-1 mill are for sale for ages and not selling, hopefully prices come back a tad
Great episode, lads! What a car
The sound of that V10! ❤️
Man that’s so nice you have to get one and you know what would great next to it, an F40 😉
Videos like this makes me think its a shame there isnt a turbo like button
Bloody brilliant. Cheers guys
Epic content
Thanks.
This is worth every penny, just for the sound it makes and the smile it puts on your face’s..😎😎😎
What a stunner, over the million now in 03/23
Gagging uncontrollably "OMG!OMAGERD!1YOU GUYS DID IT!!"
🤣🤣
Boy playing with toys...
Thanks for the drive..
😎
Okay so I have an issue of the DuPont registry dating back several years ago. In one of the ads there was a red carrera gt listed for 250k usd
Great video, the sound of the car is amazing
What great experience. Happy Motoring!
What a great CG episode. Two wallies jabbering on with huge grins.. whilst that engine note says it all. Question: which feels better in your hand? The warmth of that soft glow birch gearknob or the cold hard steel of an F40 shifter?
@@ektrolleyboy pretty sure the gear knob on the F40 is made out of aluminum
One of my favourite cars off all time along with F40 & F50. Carerra GT handling much less tricky with modern tyres - the original tyres were crap.
Bit like the M3 CSL then 20 odd years ago then…..
Silicone carbide 🤪 The GT with its visceral howl and the Merc SLR sounding like a Spitfire. What a period of engineering.
great episode, and I think you’re somewhat relieved the clutch is crap 😂
I was at Caffeine and Machine a few Sundays ago. 15 CGTs turned up!! Common!!! 😂😂😂
Yes we saw that too
