Too many things to make me laugh and smile!!!! “go limp” “I’ll undo your seatbelt if we are going to crash” Damian’s sideways glance when “boxster” was said by Jason for the 10th time, but the best of all was right when you are reviewing two of the most iconic cars of this generation you both get very excited over a Nissan 300 and it’s twin chrome pipes.... brilliant, just brilliant....
300ZX TT owner here. Just sold my gated V10 R8, looking to add either a 2018 manual GT3 or a new Spyder. I mean, this video is an extremely well timed delight! Thanks guys!!!
I went from a 997.2 GT3 to a 981 Spyder. Love BOTH! The gearbox feel is Porsche, the best and unfortunately the few we have to play with. Sound, of course, GT3! However, I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the Spyder sounded, quite aggressive. My 991.1 Turbo was no where close to the sound or fun factor. Style, subjective but the Spyder “humps” gives it and incredibly exotic/unique look especially with the top down! In conclusion, you can never go wrong with a Porsche!
You are comparing cars with different seats. The bucket seats changes the feeling of directness to the cars quite a bit. Driver is connected more with such seats. I consider this difference very similar to regular suspension vs. rose joints.
Yes actually u can and u should. They only way to reverse this EU over regulation madness is to put pressure on companies by not buying their products.... In the end they will "cooperate" and find a viable solution.
Fascinating comparison. I guess the one I’m interested to hear is the 4.0 Boxster (gts?) vs Spyder comparison. Which boils down to does the lightweight roof make that much of a difference.
Jason stated the Spyder has a Carrera S engine, that was correct on the previos gen, GT4, the 4.0 is a new engine not used by the carrera, great video lads
Of course the GT3 is the superior one, but I wonder if the comparison misses the point. The Spyder gives you one of the most beautiful car designs and a whole lot of unadulterated sports car pleasure for far less money. In fact you could buy a Spyder for weekend pleasure and an electric car for everyday commute (e.g. VW ID.3) for less money than what you have to pay for a GT3. Is the extra bit of experience that the GT3 provides worth the premium? „Yes“ for some people, „no“ for other people - and it‘s great that Porsche provides options for different needs. In terms of sports car value for money, the Spyder/GT4 is hard to beat.
My thoughts exactly but the car guys are in a different income stratosphere. If I was filthy rich, I would have the GT3T and a Boxster GTS 4.0. As it is I daily a Mini SE and my 981 BGTS is my weekend car. It turns out to be cheaper in the wrong run than dailying my Porsche due to lower insurance, running costs and depreciation. Plus the Mini SE is very fun in its own way.
Very unbiased conclusion (I know you are in love of the Spyder). I believe you haven't disconnected/blocked the vacuum lines yet... you should do it before making changes to the exhaust for a fair comparison afterwards
Have you heard about the sharkwerks gear ratio options for the spyder? Makes the gearbox a shorter shift and apparently transforms the driving experience.
I can heartily recommend the full ti akrapovic system for your touring. The one with the side and center mufflers. Also, the Spyder doesn’t just need an exhaust. It needs headers as well, that’s where the OPF sits.
Interesting. I was surprised there was such a difference as I thought the Spyder and GT4 were meant to have been developed by the motorsport division in Weissach like the GT cars, and even to have some GT3 running gear.
Damian, the 718 GT4 is no more a Cayman than the 718 Spyder is a Boxster. Loved the comparo. A comment you didn't make is that the GT3 Touring is an all-weather car where the Spyder is really only suitable for fair weather, unless you like getting wet!
OPF filters are killing noise but also engines themselves that are made in compliance with new regulations. This is really frustrating because it means we are not seeing the pinacle of what can actually be made in 2020, which would obviously be much better than what is currently being released under very restrictive regulations.
Guys you really are the most entertaining car content on "da tube". Please keep doing this great content, Oh whatever about the cars the watches are bloody amazing. TheCarGuys got it all!
love this comparison video D&J this is great work, the GT3 is a drivers car high water mark. I agree that with the "not a Boxster" - "you absolutely have to get an after market exhaust" however I'd say to any owners looking in, first check with Porsche about the cars warranty before fitting one, it's a dilemma set to face all future GT cars unfortunately, making the 991.2 first batch, those produced up to around mid 2018, the must have GT car.
Saturday morning ( I'm in Oz) and what's the first thing I do, watch the Car Guys newest adventure. Great review. Good to see the tdf is still in the garage.
Try the cargraphic electronic exhaust valve mod? Looks good sounds great without altering the original exhaust, or just go for a full system and headers? 🤷🏼♂️
Great video guys I'm loving the Spyder a.k.a. Boxster. But I have noticed a continuity error as at 3.46 you are not wearing the Tudor black bay.... but it is a cracking watch
Here's a 1st world problem question for you guys: enjoy a GT3 Touring and a Spyder or a own only a Speedster? I never made the cut to order a Speedster, but was able to order my Touring and, like you, love it and won't sell it except for the right Speedster. In the futility of the search for a convertible, I have considered doing exactly what you did since the investment is about the same. I haven't seen you weigh in on the idea of a Speedster. Thoughts?
Well done! I previously had the 991.1 GT3 and the previous GT4, and now have a 991.2 Touring and waiting for the GT4 RS with PDK - I have been waiting 5+ years to "swap" transmissions between my two cars - almost there!

I do like the look of the Boxter (sorry Spyder). On sunny days like we’re having now, driving through the New Forest with the roof down is what’s it’s all about. The GT3 is a beast and a wise choice for a daily.
Would’ve thought the Spyder had better steering feel, feedback, and turn in. Although not GT cars, I’ve had a 718 GTS and now a 991.2 GTS and felt that the 718 was a little better. Did both cars have the same alignment setup? Are you sure the GT3 doesn’t have more front negative camber?
