To clarify a couple things, I'm running macOS under a hypervisor using emulation. I lose maybe a percent of speed compared to natively installing it which is completely negligible. I do however get a completely stable system in my testing and I would compare this setup to an off the shelf mac. It takes a bit of work to get going but if you have understanding of how Linux, virtualization and having a bit of patience works this can be an incredibly fun project.

As a child of hardworking middle-class parents, I've experienced being poor-shamed _and_ being rich-shamed lol. In some cases, the latter was understandable albeit still foolish. The former was always silly.
@Alex I recall being "rich-shamed" as a kid for merely having a PC at home. This was in the '90s before PCs became a common (and affordable) household item here in the PH. And it was an old secondhand IBM DOS PC, in a time when Windows 95 was already a thing.
That's because "rich-shaming" usually boils down to making fun of bad spending habits or self-deprecation from the person who's doing the rich shaming. Poor shaming on the other hand is obnoxious and some deep part of me finds it extremely unlikable to it's core. I wouldn't consider myself some based woke political economical guy but I think I might just hate filthy rich rich people.
Pretty much, yes. And poor shaming is quite a low... low for people to stoop to. Its frankly no better than when in the 80s classroom some kids got shamed because they didn't have the G.I. Joe or Barbie themed backpack/lunchbox/etc. that was in vogue at the time - and yes the equivalent of that is still alive and well in today's classrooms... and apparently in the tech space.

I'm from Germany, a country without school uniforms, so pupils bragging with their newest phones and other accessories isn't the only thing, what you're wearing or not wearing can also make you a target for poor shaming. When I studied graphics design we had macs at the technical college. 2007, my first experience with these things and it was all but just insanely frustrating. Especially with teachers that sneered at you for saying that you preferred Windows, or laughed when you asked things like "where the hell is the right mouse button??? how can I open a word document on this thing???" and got all passive aggressive defensive when the mac was slow af or just crashed.
@@Taraeth I think that there is an aspect of human nature that 'goes wrong' in ailing societies (and I am of the view that a lot of societies are ailing). One symptom of such is an increased predatory inclination to single out individuals deemed inferior for even the most superficial of reasons as - by extension - such implies one's own superiority. In a truly healthy society, behavioral lapses such as poor shaming at school for even one's clothing would be socially corrected - not only through formal education but also through the family unit and other anchors of society. Of course - this is only one direction in which this subject may be unpackaged.

As a frugal person, the biggest expenditure I had in the last 4 years was buying a Dell Inspiron laptop and a new android phone (not Samsung). I had used my dad's 9 year old laptop with 4GB RAM that hardly could run some of the softwares I needed for college and a battery that doesn't last 30 minutes after full charging. Still I used it up to my second year in university until online classes were too much for the old fella and had to buy a new laptop and phone cause my old phone also betrayed me during the pandemic. Even that seemed too expensive to me, I felt freaking poor after spending $1000 in total for both purchases. Unless I get a job that pays me 100k a year, I can never afford anything more expensive.

@@Souls_p_ Every gaming computer that's actually worth getting are well over 1000 dollars, plus if I'm gaming, I don't want a multitool (but that's just my preference) The only thing that makes PC truly better is modding, everything else is either preference or some custom made "attachment" which isn't part of the standard PC. When I compare PC to console, I don't take into account the even more expensive upgrades since not everyone gets those. When it comes to price, practicality, and user friendliness, console wins hands down.

I have a friend whose brother bought a 3,000 dollar Mac laptop and it just hurts me that you could probably get a better laptop from some less popular brand for around maybe 15 hundred. The only thing you're really missing out on by doing such is the emoji scrollwheel thing, seriously.

I'm 12months too late but as someone who works as a computer technician for many years, we really need videos like this to let people see both sides of the Apple/PC story. Unfortunately you'll always get people that won't use anything else than Apple and are a bit deluded that it's better than everything else. There is always positives and negatives to everything in the technology world but being shamed for not using a Apple is ridiculous. I'm a big believer in using what you feel is best for YOU and for YOUR job. I have had to pick up the pieces for countless people that have been talked into going Apple and then needing to escape because you can get locked in to working their way or no way. That's fair enough if you know what you're expecting and don't mind being controlled, but some people don't want that. I'm not saying Windows or Linux is any better, but I am saying that people may have a different opinion if they get well informed and open their minds. You've done the right thing. You've got a better setup for less money that does the same or better job, and you can spend the rest on something else. In my opinion that's called using your head.

There is no way in existence that this stand with standard features could make up for the price tag if not it was made of expensive materials or had expensive mechanisms which it doesn't have. They could atleast added robotics to make it easier to align the monitor.

I use an iphone cause I dont even really use my phone and mostly use it cause everyone around me does and allows them to see when I read their text so when I don’t respond they know I don’t care. @Crusader M8, go to like a pc part picker or something and build the most expensive high class machine you can and show it to your parents. 4D brain play for you. Or even better, go to the pcmasterrace subreddit and ask them to build one for you on pc part picker. Also don't forget to show them VR rigs since they cost a hand and a leg. As a sidenote may be worth to check out if it's any good to just install windows on that machine of yours. Mac and gaming don't really go together... like at all.
linux is also better than windows because it's open source and fully costamisebele. @iAries I remember finding a gaming laptop with better specs than a macbook costing 10x its price (like a 1050 3GB for its GPU) and it was on sale for like $500. don't even get me started on PC building territory. my build probably costs about $750 or less to build in total with new components and it has a 500GB sata SSD, 16GB DDR4 3200MHZ dual channel, ryzen 5 3600, and GTX 1660 super. it also has great GPU overclocking ability (not able to overclock my CPU due to motherboard limitations) and I threw my cheap 2TB external HDD onto one of the USB 3.0 ports and cached it with an SSD partition using primocache and I am over here enjoying all my stuff with SSD speeds. I plan to upgrade my RAM to 64GB for about 200 bucks and I will cache my HDD using RAM.
@iAries LMAO. Mac "premium build quality" isn't even a crutch, or myth, it's a delusion. And every single Ideapad on the market has 256 GB SSD storage OR MORE. In addition, the basic Ideapad 3 has 8GB Ram, equal to your precious Mac, while the 5s possess DOUBLE the Ram, flat out superior, at a minor increase in price. And these are basic laptops here. We're not even talking about the astronomical superiority of custom PCs. You're buying inferior product for a higher cost because you're fawning over baubles.
I agree with you about the fleecing Apple unashamedly flaunts. I have used everything from an Apple II se, Power Macs and then my MacBook Pro. In the same time period I also used various pc builds and pc laptops. PC definitely wins in the software department (which seems to be Apple users' argument for the I-phone). PC desktops will generally last a decent amount of time if you do proper maintenance but PC laptops are generally on borrowed time after purchase. I will give credit where I feel credit is due. In 2014 I purchased a used 2010 MacBook Pro (on Facebook) and used it as a PC media center. It stayed running 24/7 running apps and playing media with the occasional reboot. That MacBook finally died a few months ago. I have never seen any laptop equipment last as long as Apple laptops, but they're still expensive media centers. P.S. I dabbled with Linux Cyclone 2000 which probably ages me, don't say it Mutahar!

UNIX like systems are less suited for games but are great for labour tasks. I quite enjoyed this video. As a mac and windows user, I will say that mac is good if you want to have an aesthetic look to a room or something. I have an A1181 Macbook and an iMac G3 and the iMac is for decoration really because I can't do much with it. the A1181 MacBook, there's not a lot I can do with it either (mainly because it's from 2007) however I sometimes use MacOS to format my USB because it's easier on Mac than windows (at least that would be for me) and watch videos on youtube whenever I'm in bed. I also have it because it has a glowing logo at the back. Yeah I can't see it but whenever I leave my bed to go somewhere and come back, it looks pleasing (or at least in my opinion).
I really never understood the BS around software, this is similar to the whole argument around DAW's, the reality is, the very very top end of professional software packages these days all support basically all the same crap, I can take any of my IMPORTANT plugins or instruments from one DAW straight to another, they all support all of the same industry standard interfaces, codecs, protocols etc, there's differences but those differences are a personal workflow choice kind of difference, not a "this produces a better end result" difference. I used to do some pretty basic editing back in the day and I personally liked Sony Vegas studio, now I'm not a professional video editor by any means, but SVS seemed to support a whole lot of different things that look more catered towards film or tv industry, including network cluster rendering, maybe there's something I don't know but I can only assume that there's probably a bunch of competent professional video editors out there that just like the feel of SVS and can use it to get perfectly good results, its the end product that counts right? not what software you used to make it.

I was just thinking about that. I bought a nice MSI recently (mainly for heavy gaming, and just general usage) and when i got it in the mail my roommate just stood around while i was unboxing it just riding about how i should have gone for a MacBook instead. I had to just start grilling her ab3kut how she doesnt really know much of shit about software or hardware or really anything about tech' at all. (She works from home and somehow got a job for a phone company as "over-the-phone tech help". And she will literally have to put people on hold and ask me how to do something because she doesnt know how to do them, like sure she can explain how to change a SIM card out, and do a remote activation from the program the company provides, but one she had to stop a call and ask me how to do a hard reset/wipe on an android phone, like instead of just googling it either, decided to put this person on hold and come ask me to explain it)
We were doing presentations in school. "I told the other students, you just need to connect an HDMI cable to your computer." This one Finnish guy did not have a HDMI port because he uses a MacBook. He emailed me the file, and he presented on mine.
after watching this video I went ahead and built a ryzen 9 5950x rig with 64gb of 3600mhz ram, rx6900xt, gtx 1070, and decided to dual boot ubuntu and windows 10. I couldn't be any happier this behemoth runs anything I need it to and most importantly it eats up, shits out, and stomps on any mac.
I will never use that because no one with in a billion mile radius is using those things for anything. I could just go to my nearest bestbuy and steal the best rtx card. (The security really be slacking)
It's so true. I am stuck using an iphone for my work tasks. It seems like it's always fighting me, rather than helping. I'm always having to find a workaround for this and that. Then you have the thousand little, weird, hidden ways to access other functions that only seem to be able to be found by accidentally coming across them. Why do I not have any of these headaches on my personal Android phone? What is the appeal for Apple?
I have a freebie Alienware R7 that runs macOS Big Sur with the aid of the openCore bootloader. Basically the equivalent of a 2019 iMac. Intel Macs are at a volatile position due to the ongoing transition to ARM64-based hardware.
As a Mac user, I can agree with many of these statements. Especially the Adobe part (save Logic - the only reason I got into the ecosystem, to begin with).

i used a mac at one point for minecraft (while waiting for my pc to come in), it was a 2016 model with an i7, integrated graphics and 8gbs of ram, with optifine, i only got an average of 50 - 60fps, i nearly got that on my celeron laptop with optifine. glad i have a pc, i sure as hell missed the spyware filled windows when i was on mac, glad to be back on windows.

@Alex I recall being "rich-shamed" as a kid for merely having a PC at home. This was in the '90s before PCs became a common (and affordable) household item here in the PH. And it was an old secondhand IBM DOS PC, in a time when Windows 95 was already a thing.
That's because "rich-shaming" usually boils down to making fun of bad spending habits or self-deprecation from the person who's doing the rich shaming. Poor shaming on the other hand is obnoxious and some deep part of me finds it extremely unlikable to it's core. I wouldn't consider myself some based woke political economical guy but I think I might just hate filthy rich rich people.

When I studied graphics design we had macs at the technical college. 2007, my first experience with these things and it was all but just insanely frustrating. Especially with teachers that sneered at you for saying that you preferred Windows, or laughed when you asked things like "where the hell is the right mouse button??? how can I open a word document on this thing???" and got all passive aggressive defensive when the mac was slow af or just crashed.

As a frugal person, the biggest expenditure I had in the last 4 years was buying a Dell Inspiron laptop and a new android phone (not Samsung). I had used my dad's 9 year old laptop with 4GB RAM that hardly could run some of the softwares I needed for college and a battery that doesn't last 30 minutes after full charging. Still I used it up to my second year in university until online classes were too much for the old fella and had to buy a new laptop and phone cause my old phone also betrayed me during the pandemic. Even that seemed too expensive to me, I felt freaking poor after spending $1000 in total for both purchases. Unless I get a job that pays me 100k a year, I can never afford anything more expensive.

@@Souls_p_ Every gaming computer that's actually worth getting are well over 1000 dollars, plus if I'm gaming, I don't want a multitool (but that's just my preference) The only thing that makes PC truly better is modding, everything else is either preference or some custom made "attachment" which isn't part of the standard PC. When I compare PC to console, I don't take into account the even more expensive upgrades since not everyone gets those. When it comes to price, practicality, and user friendliness, console wins hands down.

I'm 12months too late but as someone who works as a computer technician for many years, we really need videos like this to let people see both sides of the Apple/PC story. Unfortunately you'll always get people that won't use anything else than Apple and are a bit deluded that it's better than everything else. There is always positives and negatives to everything in the technology world but being shamed for not using a Apple is ridiculous. I'm a big believer in using what you feel is best for YOU and for YOUR job. I have had to pick up the pieces for countless people that have been talked into going Apple and then needing to escape because you can get locked in to working their way or no way. That's fair enough if you know what you're expecting and don't mind being controlled, but some people don't want that. I'm not saying Windows or Linux is any better, but I am saying that people may have a different opinion if they get well informed and open their minds. You've done the right thing. You've got a better setup for less money that does the same or better job, and you can spend the rest on something else. In my opinion that's called using your head.

There is no way in existence that this stand with standard features could make up for the price tag if not it was made of expensive materials or had expensive mechanisms which it doesn't have. They could atleast added robotics to make it easier to align the monitor.

I use an iphone cause I dont even really use my phone and mostly use it cause everyone around me does and allows them to see when I read their text so when I don’t respond they know I don’t care. @Crusader M8, go to like a pc part picker or something and build the most expensive high class machine you can and show it to your parents. 4D brain play for you. Or even better, go to the pcmasterrace subreddit and ask them to build one for you on pc part picker. Also don't forget to show them VR rigs since they cost a hand and a leg.
As a sidenote may be worth to check out if it's any good to just install windows on that machine of yours. Mac and gaming don't really go together... like at all.

@iAries I remember finding a gaming laptop with better specs than a macbook costing 10x its price (like a 1050 3GB for its GPU) and it was on sale for like $500. don't even get me started on PC building territory. my build probably costs about $750 or less to build in total with new components and it has a 500GB sata SSD, 16GB DDR4 3200MHZ dual channel, ryzen 5 3600, and GTX 1660 super. it also has great GPU overclocking ability (not able to overclock my CPU due to motherboard limitations) and I threw my cheap 2TB external HDD onto one of the USB 3.0 ports and cached it with an SSD partition using primocache and I am over here enjoying all my stuff with SSD speeds. I plan to upgrade my RAM to 64GB for about 200 bucks and I will cache my HDD using RAM.
@iAries LMAO. Mac "premium build quality" isn't even a crutch, or myth, it's a delusion. And every single Ideapad on the market has 256 GB SSD storage OR MORE. In addition, the basic Ideapad 3 has 8GB Ram, equal to your precious Mac, while the 5s possess DOUBLE the Ram, flat out superior, at a minor increase in price. And these are basic laptops here. We're not even talking about the astronomical superiority of custom PCs. You're buying inferior product for a higher cost because you're fawning over baubles.

I agree with you about the fleecing Apple unashamedly flaunts. I have used everything from an Apple II se, Power Macs and then my MacBook Pro. In the same time period I also used various pc builds and pc laptops. PC definitely wins in the software department (which seems to be Apple users' argument for the I-phone). PC desktops will generally last a decent amount of time if you do proper maintenance but PC laptops are generally on borrowed time after purchase. I will give credit where I feel credit is due. In 2014 I purchased a used 2010 MacBook Pro (on Facebook) and used it as a PC media center. It stayed running 24/7 running apps and playing media with the occasional reboot. That MacBook finally died a few months ago. I have never seen any laptop equipment last as long as Apple laptops, but they're still expensive media centers.
P.S. I dabbled with Linux Cyclone 2000 which probably ages me, don't say it Mutahar!

I quite enjoyed this video. As a mac and windows user, I will say that mac is good if you want to have an aesthetic look to a room or something. I have an A1181 Macbook and an iMac G3 and the iMac is for decoration really because I can't do much with it. the A1181 MacBook, there's not a lot I can do with it either (mainly because it's from 2007) however I sometimes use MacOS to format my USB because it's easier on Mac than windows (at least that would be for me) and watch videos on youtube whenever I'm in bed. I also have it because it has a glowing logo at the back. Yeah I can't see it but whenever I leave my bed to go somewhere and come back, it looks pleasing (or at least in my opinion).
I really never understood the BS around software, this is similar to the whole argument around DAW's, the reality is, the very very top end of professional software packages these days all support basically all the same crap, I can take any of my IMPORTANT plugins or instruments from one DAW straight to another, they all support all of the same industry standard interfaces, codecs, protocols etc, there's differences but those differences are a personal workflow choice kind of difference, not a "this produces a better end result" difference.
I used to do some pretty basic editing back in the day and I personally liked Sony Vegas studio, now I'm not a professional video editor by any means, but SVS seemed to support a whole lot of different things that look more catered towards film or tv industry, including network cluster rendering, maybe there's something I don't know but I can only assume that there's probably a bunch of competent professional video editors out there that just like the feel of SVS and can use it to get perfectly good results, its the end product that counts right? not what software you used to make it.

I was just thinking about that. I bought a nice MSI recently (mainly for heavy gaming, and just general usage) and when i got it in the mail my roommate just stood around while i was unboxing it just riding about how i should have gone for a MacBook instead. I had to just start grilling her ab3kut how she doesnt really know much of shit about software or hardware or really anything about tech' at all. (She works from home and somehow got a job for a phone company as "over-the-phone tech help". And she will literally have to put people on hold and ask me how to do something because she doesnt know how to do them, like sure she can explain how to change a SIM card out, and do a remote activation from the program the company provides, but one she had to stop a call and ask me how to do a hard reset/wipe on an android phone, like instead of just googling it either, decided to put this person on hold and come ask me to explain it)

after watching this video I went ahead and built a ryzen 9 5950x rig with 64gb of 3600mhz ram, rx6900xt, gtx 1070, and decided to dual boot ubuntu and windows 10. I couldn't be any happier this behemoth runs anything I need it to and most importantly it eats up, shits out, and stomps on any mac.

It's so true. I am stuck using an iphone for my work tasks. It seems like it's always fighting me, rather than helping. I'm always having to find a workaround for this and that. Then you have the thousand little, weird, hidden ways to access other functions that only seem to be able to be found by accidentally coming across them. Why do I not have any of these headaches on my personal Android phone? What is the appeal for Apple?

I have a freebie Alienware R7 that runs macOS Big Sur with the aid of the openCore bootloader. Basically the equivalent of a 2019 iMac. Intel Macs are at a volatile position due to the ongoing transition to ARM64-based hardware.

i used a mac at one point for minecraft (while waiting for my pc to come in), it was a 2016 model with an i7, integrated graphics and 8gbs of ram, with optifine, i only got an average of 50 - 60fps, i nearly got that on my celeron laptop with optifine. glad i have a pc, i sure as hell missed the spyware filled windows when i was on mac, glad to be back on windows.
