For the record. You can use Zoom all you want but I'd recommend using either VMware Player or Virtualbox and creating a virtual machine.
Use it only for Zoom and shut down the machine when done. It's simple and will contain whatever they're pulling.
If they use VM busting code or VM detection code thats completely shady on their end and you should never use anything from them ever again.

One simple solution: All schools and businesses that need to use zoom, they should switch to discord. Most students and some employees already use discord. But before this whole pandemic, i couldn’t name a single person that I knew used zoom. Also, discord is very easy to learn if someone doesn’t know how to use it.

There are a lot of problems with discord people do not address. First of all, the TOS. Schools cannot allow children under 13 to use discord, so you're already suggesting a site that's not an option to at least a quarter of schools looking for online classes. Second of all, there are better options. One of them is Microsoft Teams. It's built for classes specifically. They can set assignments with due dates which are very convenient to look through, can set up a files page that lists everything you need to know, and so on. I know discord can do a lot of these things but it's already set up for them in Teams (and yes there are roles, if you hover over someone's account it will tell you who the person is, like a year 10 student for example). This is my weakest point but teachers need to be very wary of online safety and discord is by far the biggest site when it comes to child grooming and shit. The chances of it actually happening because of online education is slim but it's certainly there.

The problem is that many schools and universities are currently using zoom as the only way of having online classes, so students are, in a certain way, forced to use the app in order to attend their classes. This doesn't make much sense since there are many better and more secure alternatives out there that schools don't use because they all decided to jump together on this zoom bandwagon. Most people haven't even heard of zoom before the outbreak, so you're telling me I have to believe in a platform almost no-one ever heard about until a few months ago and that has, somehow, become the norm despite having big security flaws?
Some people don’t have computers, and some apps are either exclusive for a device, yes, there are some good apps that are better then zoom (Discord). But other then that most of the apps I know are either pc exclusive or mobile exclusive.

Like i understand we gotta "learn stuff" right now but considering the circumstances, if none of the teachers are communicating, the students don't have an incentive to stay focused, and everyone is stressed, just don't do it. The current situation is bad enough as-is, and if you want kids to be active just make some assignments that won't make the students want to die.
Students in school are focused because they don't have any external distractions. As a student at home, I get too distracted and end up stressed due to assignments being a hellhole to deal with.

I'm a senior in high school and have already had my final year ruined. Some teachers are starting to make assignments using zoom and I will not be doing them. If this becomes required or the new norm I will fight as best I can against it or fail while trying. The fact that a lot of schools are relying on sketchy third party applications is a shame.

My teacher's excuse is that "Zoom meetings can hold up to 100 people". I actually read Zoom's Privacy Policy and it sells data to 3rd party programs. And there is a district rule (my district) that you HAVE to turn on your webcams, so to prevent Zoom from spying on my webcam, I opened up the Camera application so Zoom can't use my webcam.

I usually mute my mic and disable my video when attending my classes online but what caught my attention the other day was that when I had my mic muted and decided to shout something to someone in my family, I got a prompt on my screen telling me to unmute my mic so that it could hear. If I got this prompt, doesn't that essentially mean that they were listening to me the entire time? like, wtf is this shit?
