So I've been watching alot of the reviews between Xperia 1 compared to other flagship phones, particularly on the camera performance aspects. I found an interesting result which most people seem to overlook. Sony did advertise this "feature" in some of their media press release prior to launch (well at least in Japan). If you look closely to the 4K 30 fps video shot, starting at 5:28 time mark, you'll notice that no matter when you press pause, the Xperia 1's video will always retain detail and no blur. However yes the video is spot on regarding the lack of any stabilisation on 4K and the performance around dynamic range etc. Just some interesing observation. You guys can check out other reviews as well and the same result will be present (in some cases low light 1080p 30fps videos as well). Well done to Sony and Samsung, for giving us consumers choices of flagship phones.
I’m not a lover of the S10 plus, but here it does stand out in most shots (NOT all). There are several shots where I prefer the greater contrast that the Sony provides. Regarding video: having only recently tried 4K 30 where 4 minutes of video took up 1.32Gb, who in their right mind would constantly shoot in that mode? Most NORMAL people just don’t have the storage space, or the time to upload such massive files; and most social media reject such large files anyway. OK if you’re a serious TH-cam reviewer I can understand but NOT for the man in the street like me. Yes it’s nice to have for short bits, and for selecting high quality stills from a video, but those uses are pretty limited.
Both are capable and Samsung is currently ahead and Sony is more natural. But have the ability to improve provided Sony n Samsung provide software updates
@Only Bappi hell no!..iphone XS max's camera way saturated..samsung used to make that..and iphone users used to complain samsung pictures were over saturated...now since they are over saturating their pictures it's cool huh?😏
A professional photographer would easily pick the Sony over the Samsung as colour balance and contrast are hugely important in photography. As for dynamic range... If you are a real photographer you would know that shooting raw will give you all the dynamic range you need. Now if you are not a photographer and just want to get some likes on Instagram or Facebook then by all means the Samsung will do the job. Sony makes the Rx100 series of pocket cameras which even by today's standards are far superior than any smartphone it's only a matter of time before they introduce that same camera system to phones...
I don't understand why 4k video on the Xperia 1 isn't stabilized. They were basically the first to have good EIS for 4k videos and even their flagships from 3 years ago had good stabilization.
I've had both and Sony has enormus exposure problems. I agree that Sony gives far more options with manual mode, but living on the go and snapping real life scenarios, most of the time we will all rely on auto-mode rather than manual. S10 does a far better job here, purely because of its software.
@@adikhrisna8047 define better?!... i do print a lot of professional stuff... and if you print shamesung pictures on paper it looks horrible.. while the sony pictures are almost flawless
Welcome to my city! I have to say that the Sony is killing it giving the fact that it doesn't use HDR in auto mode but only on manual. Looks more natural and real, I have the S9 plus. Portraits were better on the Sony as well, more portrait like.
there's becoming a clear divide amongst smartphone camera quality nowadays. Apple, Samsung, Google, Huawei and then theres the rest who are in the bracket below. Such as Oneplus, Sony, LG etc
Agree it is the Dynamic range where Sony looses out sadly. Its good to see though that the gap is now closing down. I would surely like Sony to not only stay in the game but also to steal the show someday (Sooner lolz). This phone does come very close to that but yeah it still misses the marks here and there though not at all as much as it was the case in the past. All things considered I'd like to get the Xperia 1 in order to literally stand out in the crowd :D @ 21:9
You need to teach people more about realism in colors. When you have no idea about how colors look like in real, you have no idea. The Samsung is sharper, but....the difference in realism in colors is huge. The Sony looks a lot more natural. The Samsung shows us more like Disney (way too much blue) colors. In my opinion this is unacceptable. The Sony is superior in watching videos and movies. The depth (3D) and realism in colors is so much better than what the Samsung can present.
The Sony Xperia 1 is meant for people who know what they want, how to get it and can tinker with images if they so wish. The S10 is for people who just want on the point images. It's a difficult thing to choose. I think, to buy one of these devices, one would just have to choose between the size(aspect ratio) of the phones.
I think you are blind :) on all pic and video is the Xperia 1 much sharper even without HDR. look behind scene they all unsharp on S10. look at the pic with your monitor behind it's blurry on s10. Even on the video, sony is much sharper with true colors. There is no way samsung can match up with Sony.
Cameras are supposed to capture reality as close as possible the hardware/software allows. If reality is not vibrating/saturated, it means photos that are this way are wrong. Still youtubers vote for this. 🤔 Of course personnal preference is not part of technical evaluation.
I think that S10+ is the winner for sure, the lady with you looks very sweet, and the curved screen you have beside the desktop case is really amazing !
Big Sony fan but its not hard to tell that the Samsung in almost each aspect is comes out better. Most certainly not that the Sony is bad either. The Sony unique feature is being able to watch films on it like in the cinema without black bars and for me that is amazing! But no headphone jack so i have to carry stupid dongle!
Except that samsung easily one of the best cameras out there rn and it understandable that devices can match or be behind. Only a few cameras I would say have better photos but video stabilization and 4k recording easily go to sony
the funny thing is, lightroom recognizes s9/s10 shots (both raw and jpeg), it even has lens correction profile, despite samsung is technically giving an already edited default raw&jpeg image. I find it very very interesting.
The Galaxy won. But I never expected it not to. The thing is, Sony has had consistently inferior cameras since the Z3 in 2014. Things like their inability to deal with dynamic range has been a problem for years. They simply don't listen to consumer feedback, they don't look at market trends and they insist on forging ahead with their stubborn "we know better, we're the Apple of Android" attitude. You can also see that on the ever decreasing hardware quality and the adoption of pointless gimmicks like 3D scanning and 21:9 aspect ratios.
Sony had been struggling with dark scenes for a while now. I get much better results with the Sony on manual, the auto mode isn't as good as it could be.
Simple. Buy an iPhone and you're done. No nonsense. Android completely sucks. But a good video. Hey, @TheTechChap, please do a review of the latest 2019 MacBook Air and the MacBook 13", recently launched by Apple.
4K oled, triple camera set up, fast software and top cailre chipset, the asking price is not cheap considering the cost of its hardware and smooth software. I would not complain for the price if it means a reliable phone for the next 3 years, by then, Sony may have stopped regular software updates, but before that, you may have gotten the latest Android version.
Well Samsung's photos are social media ready right out the gate, while Sony gets the real picture. You can still get Sony's photos to look more saturated and contrasty with some tweaks in a photo editor or with the instagram fiilters, but I don't imagine it would be as easy to take Samsung's already heavily processed photos and take them down to a natural level.
The sell mirrorless, not dslr ..... cellphones dont provide 10% of quality a professional camera can. Even a 1" sensor compact camera can easily beat cellphones
i personally prefer a phone that gives out natural colors, i don't minds using manual/pro mode, especially when the Xperia 1 has all those fancy settings i need, so i'd go to Xperia 1, i'd rather take full control rather than point and shoot, especially with the new Sony Xperia 1 II

I feel confident that sony will improve their camera. Sony pushes out tons of updates to their phones. Either way I'm impressed with the 4k screen.
At 4k Sony is much more sharper samsung more stable. All of other things you mensioned i agree.
I think it's a combination of the S10 HDR and the colour range of the Xperia! That's the best combination for me!
Both are capable and Samsung is currently ahead and Sony is more natural. But have the ability to improve provided Sony n Samsung provide software updates
Let your partner Sarah do one of ur reviews for you. She is GORgeous!!
Lucky Tom 😄👍👏
sony camera can capture real thing what we can see.
but samsungs photo is over saturated.
True 👌
If you want an over saturated camera..that's the iphone xs max
@@veronica434 but xs photo is less saturated than samsung.
@Only Bappi You are one of the few, real human who said the right thing.
Sony makes the Rx100 series of pocket cameras which even by today's standards are far superior than any smartphone it's only a matter of time before they introduce that same camera system to phones...
i srsly wanted to press the like button 3 times during the video and always realised that i already liked it XD
just don't do it 4 times 😅
Doesn't your S10+ have the update which gives you the option to use both telephoto and wide angle lens for portrait.
Use Xperia HDR in manual mode
There's no replacement when it comes to photography and videos,SONY XPERIA is the BEST
When you said you're blind 😂😂 love your reviews Tom!
I don't understand why 4k video on the Xperia 1 isn't stabilized. They were basically the first to have good EIS for 4k videos and even their flagships from 3 years ago had good stabilization.
1st Sony to have ois and eis. So theyre still clueless and will probably fix on tje next update.
I've had both and Sony has enormus exposure problems. I agree that Sony gives far more options with manual mode, but living on the go and snapping real life scenarios, most of the time we will all rely on auto-mode rather than manual. S10 does a far better job here, purely because of its software.
you might be correct about the stabilization on videos but did you see the difference on sharpness s10+ is is way blurry on 4k and even in 1080p.
Exactly 👌 let Samshit haters hate 💪
SONY will always be SONY 🔥
Xperia has manual HDR first enable it and then compare
@Andreescu Daniel 💯% right bro
Sony is 100x better than Samsung
Sammy turns everything into yellow. Yellowish is horrible.
I cannot agreed with you.
Frankly speaking, you are not capable of testing the device.
Clearlly s10+ is winner.....coz its using sony lenses.. 😂
lenses and sensors :D
Yeah, xperia 1 using their own lenses but it doesn't make it better than galaxy s10+ 😂
@@adikhrisna8047 define better?!... i do print a lot of professional stuff... and if you print shamesung pictures on paper it looks horrible.. while the sony pictures are almost flawless
@@bojangbg lawl...you such delusional Sony fangirl😅
Sony does not make lenses for other, just sensors. Exynos uses isocell. Only snapdragon version has sony sensor
Sony Xperia 😘😘
Welcome to my city! I have to say that the Sony is killing it giving the fact that it doesn't use HDR in auto mode but only on manual. Looks more natural and real, I have the S9 plus. Portraits were better on the Sony as well, more portrait like.
🤣🤣🤣
S10's update give you an option to choose potrait between wide angle or telephoto lense
I like Xperia 1 for display quality because have higher spec of display u can see the defences
there's becoming a clear divide amongst smartphone camera quality nowadays.
Sony x1 is the best
Sony is realistic camera Samsung are draw
Sony is the best but I m using iOS 😎
Lawl Samsung hater!😅😅
You need to teach people more about realism in colors. When you have no idea about how colors look like in real, you have no idea. The Samsung is sharper, but....the difference in realism in colors is huge. The Sony looks a lot more natural. The Samsung shows us more like Disney (way too much blue) colors. In my opinion this is unacceptable. The Sony is superior in watching videos and movies. The depth (3D) and realism in colors is so much better than what the Samsung can present.
I have the xperia 1 and absolutely i agree 👍
Sony the Best the color of Samsung are not natural and cinema pro is beutiful app for video
Are pictures taken on Sony taken with wide angel? They all looks barrel? You can correct this in settings.
I am not sure about your computer/phone screen but sony x1 photos looked so much better on my macbook pro.
I'm xperia xz2 owner, and i see that samsung camera much better
Macbook is crap. The screen is outdated on all Macs
Sony absolut is better.
Sony natural color.
Richárd Molnár no it’s not wtf the Sony is over exposed. Your obviously just biased.
Natural and reality shows me 👉Go get a Xperia 1
You also get noise and terrible sharpness
İt s not important night scene photos. I NEED REALİTY DAİLY PHOTOS. You like overexposed colours ı see
@@snrbzpn3818 it has pro mode dumbass
@@jordanjackson8873 Samsung cheats users Now i m using Note 8 but ı m not happy with yellowish screen and warm photos
@@snrbzpn3818 my photos nor videos come out yellow. My brother has a note 9 aand other brother has s8 and both still take great videos and photots
Hmmm
U r right
It also has stabilization hdr 60fps 1080p? On xperia 1
Sony 😍
Cameras are supposed to capture reality as close as possible the hardware/software allows.
If reality is not vibrating/saturated, it means photos that are this way are wrong.
Still youtubers vote for this.
🤔
Of course personnal preference is not part of technical evaluation.
Since way has a cameras sole purpose been to capture reality accurately? if that's th4 case why do filters and different camera modes exist smartass
I like natural videos and photos
So natural videos and photos are overexposed and have blown out highlights? Lmao...you Sony fangirls are something else 😂😂😂
Shut up
@@tshepangescobar18 as he said , shut up fake Samshit with bunch of fake colours
Lol exactly. You can tone down saturation on samsung but theres no way you can improve dynamic range on post editing on sony xD
@@ianbadilla8850 hehe tone down saturation? What a fucked up cam then 😂
As far as i know, you can use x2 zoom for portraits on the S10. Just go to live focus and click the zoom button (trees)
I think that S10+ is the winner for sure, the lady with you looks very sweet, and the curved screen you have beside the desktop case is really amazing !
Can't the S10 switch between Telephoto and wide lens in portrait mode? I thought through an update it was given
Definitely the Sony..👍
Cost is a big factor to choose between these two and *you get the answer.*
it's true - and you can find the S10+ a bit cheaper now!
In another video the s10+ has less details. I don't know what you did, but I think you are are not able to use the sony cam right...
I find it very very interesting.
yeah id rather have the more realistic color reproduction on the sony
S10 fucking up the sky
Haha and even the ground, it's Samshit man 😁
The Galaxy won.
Sony 🔥🔥 🔥
Sony had been struggling with dark scenes for a while now.
I get much better results with the Sony on manual, the auto mode isn't as good as it could be.
In my opinion, both phones have great cameras however, the sony needs to improve the software of their camera.
Simple. Buy an iPhone and you're done. No nonsense. Android completely sucks. But a good video. Hey, @TheTechChap, please do a review of the latest 2019 MacBook Air and the MacBook 13", recently launched by Apple.
Sony xperia 1 woow
The details , HDR and aperture are just great on S10+
S10+ absolutely
Sony 🔥
The 1 is OK but simply and like every Sony flagship in the last 5 years heavily over-priced.
It's like every Samsung flagship or every Apple flagship. Over priced
It's like every flagship today. Overpriced.
main point selling xperia 1 is its display and experience watching movies and playing game. so same as other flagship have strong point
overpriced but offers the better technology than any other flagship on the market... strange :)
Night 4k 30 p was sharper in Xperia. Nobody? Ok
I feel like Sony is going backwards. I understand that they want to sell their DSLRs but come on... they can do so much better than this...
The sell mirrorless, not dslr ..... cellphones dont provide 10% of quality a professional camera can. Even a 1" sensor compact camera can easily beat cellphones
Samshit cheat people and they are going backwards, Sony company's age 73 and they will continue to 100 and more 💪 Viva Sony forever
I am going to buy S10 plus the screen the camera the video everything is great ! Worth the money !
Awesome camera comparison as always
I agree, s10plus does better...👍🔥
Sony has hdr you should turn on I'm sure there are big differences in daylight with hdr on the Sony
i personally prefer a phone that gives out natural colors, i don't minds using manual/pro mode, especially when the Xperia 1 has all those fancy settings i need, so i'd go to Xperia 1, i'd rather take full control rather than point and shoot, especially with the new Sony Xperia 1 II
I prefer the Sony phone. Sony has knocked this phone out of the park this time around.
Absolutely man🔥
S10 plus better the Sony that’s a fact
