With Sony, you need to be creative, so you have to rely on manual mode since it has professional cameras's like settings (EV, SS, ISO, AF, HDR, etc)not those fancy settings like beautification, clearity, colourful photos, etc.

You can shot manual with Samsung as well (not only Samsung but also huawei, LG and most of android device has manual mode )... 99 out of 100 use mostly auto mode... you shouldn't cover how shit auto mode on xperia is... hey it's 2019 and still not hdr on Auto mode of xperia!

The Xperia 1's photos are more natural, but I think they're probably on par in terms of HDR, and the S10+ handles shadows better? Nahh, in the shadowy areas on the Xperia 1's photos, there's plenty of detail, and you can also use Photo editor to brighten up the shadowy areas. And doing that won't affect the quality of the picture.

Hope Sony ups its firmware and software game soon.

U have auto HDR - just one click to change to manual, leave everything on auto and activate HDR (after first activation it will stay activated, so after that u only need the one click to change to manual). This implementation is much better, because it lets u quickly switch between natural photos in situations where HDR is just unnecessary, and scenarios with much backlight, where its good to have HDR.
I've just tested it out and the HDR performance in the Xperia 1 is excellent. I am really thinking about creating a channel and do a review about the Xperia 1, which really digs deep into it and shows the people how good this phone can be. Side-Sense is also very excellent for example and doesn't get enough credit for how good it is implemented...u can easily use this big phone one-handed.

    • @the_matchless
      @the_matchless 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@paddipat I would sure encourage that idea of starting such a channel and I sure would subscribe specially since an alternate view to the more mainstream popular reviewers' is rarely to be found. I agree that many features are run down just because a certain number of people sharing common habits due to less time and more to conclude being reviewers may fail to see a point. That doesn't necessarily mean that a feature is useless. So do go ahead and do let me know 👍🏽

"Is more true to life" means it is intrinsically superior. One of the reasons it's called "night" is because it's dark outside.
You can always make real photos less real with a simple app and make them more childish for the mindless teens who buy into Instagram illusions...
Sony have the approach of making professional products for professional (not dumb) users. My 3-year old XZ takes better and more pleasant shots than a 2018 flagman Xiaomi ( I don't know the exact model ) which dips all photos in sugar, spice, and everything nice... It's sad how we take this technology, incomprehensible to most people, and we make ourselves believe that we have to look more beautiful. Isn't "true to life" more beautiful?

The dynamic range of the sensor is the same on both.
The only difference is how the HDR technic is implement. In Samsung you can force the HDR on auto mode, in Sony you can't.
For example in this scene 4:02 the HDR is completely unnecessary, the photo taken with the S10 the shadows looks flat, unnatural, saturated and the lamp has a strange black halo around it.
You can say that the picture has more "detail" but that doesn't make it better, it changes the entire representation of the lightness making the image artificial.

So I've been watching alot of the reviews between Xperia 1 compared to other flagship phones, particularly on the camera performance aspects. I found an interesting result which most people seem to overlook. Sony did advertise this "feature" in some of their media press release prior to launch (well at least in Japan). If you look closely to the 4K 30 fps video shot, starting at 5:28 time mark, you'll notice that no matter when you press pause, the Xperia 1's video will always retain detail and no blur. However yes the video is spot on regarding the lack of any stabilisation on 4K and the performance around dynamic range etc. Just some interesing observation. You guys can check out other reviews as well and the same result will be present (in some cases low light 1080p 30fps videos as well). Well done to Sony and Samsung, for giving us consumers choices of flagship phones.

  • @WillNewcomb

I’m not a lover of the S10 plus, but here it does stand out in most shots (NOT all). There are several shots where I prefer the greater contrast that the Sony provides. Regarding video: having only recently tried 4K 30 where 4 minutes of video took up 1.32Gb, who in their right mind would constantly shoot in that mode? Most NORMAL people just don’t have the storage space, or the time to upload such massive files; and most social media reject such large files anyway. OK if you’re a serious TH-cam reviewer I can understand but NOT for the man in the street like me. Yes it’s nice to have for short bits, and for selecting high quality stills from a video, but those uses are pretty limited.

A professional photographer would easily pick the Sony over the Samsung as colour balance and contrast are hugely important in photography. As for dynamic range... If you are a real photographer you would know that shooting raw will give you all the dynamic range you need.
Now if you are not a photographer and just want to get some likes on Instagram or Facebook then by all means the Samsung will do the job.
Sony makes the Rx100 series of pocket cameras which even by today's standards are far superior than any smartphone it's only a matter of time before they introduce that same camera system to phones...

You need to teach people more about realism in colors. When you have no idea about how colors look like in real, you have no idea. The Samsung is sharper, but....the difference in realism in colors is huge. The Sony looks a lot more natural. The Samsung shows us more like Disney (way too much blue) colors. In my opinion this is unacceptable. The Sony is superior in watching videos and movies. The depth (3D) and realism in colors is so much better than what the Samsung can present.

The Galaxy won. But I never expected it not to. The thing is, Sony has had consistently inferior cameras since the Z3 in 2014. Things like their inability to deal with dynamic range has been a problem for years. They simply don't listen to consumer feedback, they don't look at market trends and they insist on forging ahead with their stubborn "we know better, we're the Apple of Android" attitude.
You can also see that on the ever decreasing hardware quality and the adoption of pointless gimmicks like 3D scanning and 21:9 aspect ratios.
