I really wanted this phone, but damn do I wish the selfie camera didn’t suck so bad. An xperia with a one inch sensor on the camera would also be extremely freaking sweet. Hoping the xperia 1iii is even better than this; this is the first sony phone that I have actually considered. you have selected the wrong shutter speed. Cinema Pro is all manual and you have to asdjust every time the light changes, probably you are in a dark scene and your shutter speed is too high.
Coming from your excellent video of Note 20. Somehow this feels a little bit underwhelming compared to Samsung especially in terms of dynamic range and noise handling, even less so considering most of the footages that you shoot on Note are 8K 24 fps. But the color of this Sony on that luts ngl looks absolutely sweet. I'm really interested if you could compared the video capability of these 2 phones in Pro mode because they both got so much potential with manual control. Cheers bro :D
You nailed it! The colors that I can get on the Sony are some of the best looking “cinematic” footage I’ve ever shot on a phone. When you have a great exposed clip it’s awesome to work with. But like you said the lack of dynamic range and ugly low light post processing makes me so sad!
So wow, almost all footage was only shown on the computer screen ? big miss there... also I would've loved to see footage with no picture profiles just standard and of course not on your screen only (picture in picture ...)
Video idea! Cinematic competition. Ulta 20 vs this phone! Whatcha think? Also, could you do a video on cinematic vertical videos and using the cellphone?
Sony makes great cameras and sensors but when it comes to their own phones, they always end up screwing it up but they seem to be learning from their mistakes finally. I wanted to get this phone but decided to order the ultra. Earlier this week I did a small shoot of my ancestral home. It was a two day shoot and on day one I used the note 10+ and on day 2 I used an Iphone 11pro. To my astonishment, while I was editing the footage on premier, it seemed the note 10+ footage was slightly better than the iphone specifically the ultra wide was way better and had a lot less stutter and rolling shutter. The difference was small but noticable. Iphones are slowly losing their grip on the video crown.
@@obidean3964 Due to online reviews and marketing I never bothered to look for myself even after having both the 11pro and the note 10+ in my own home. Thanks for this honest review. from 5ii user. sony has almost best hardware in their phones but software nah. huge potential though. hope they grab the computational competition like samsung iphone and google. and this can be done with software updates. sony should focus on their software. software will be the future
i think that general audiences cant actually tell the difference in the levels of quality your talking about. Most people would watch a film shot on this phone and would not be saying "oh yeah but the dynamic range wasn't great" or the colour grading wasnt done properly, since the project is its entirety, 99.99% of people wouldn't notice discrepancies in quality unless they where shown comparisons, and then you have the "artsy" styles wich you could argue something may be done intentionally in a certain way. What i really want to know is how good is this thing in low light compared to other camera phones because my note 10 shoots amazing video, bit i just dont know if i should upgrade or not....
Between this and the Note 20 Ultra, I'll take this one, on every aspect that matters. I'm not much a videographer, and for pictures taking the Sony is far superior in my opinion. The capabilities offered by the Pro app is noticeable, but more than that, the image processing is miles ahead in my opinion. Samsung still has this cartoonist image processing pushing colors, and their HDR doesn't help either... The Sony on the other hand is the closest to the camera it pretends to simulate, and I like that.
I agree with you 100% the only thing that killed me on this phone was the terrible dynamic range. Even on an overcast day it was so hard to expose the sky and not crush the shadows on the ground. If it had 1-2 stops more of dynamic range this would be my new main phone instantly. The software is near perfection!
@@initialfocus wait for the Xperia 5 ii it's coming next in october I hope Sony matches the lenses this time they are a pro camera manufacturer anyway it shouldn't be hard. they are replacing the 60hz 4k display with 120hz 1080p one so I hope that helps evening out the cost.
I own both the 1 ii & the note 20 ultra. The lack of dynamic range & night mode alone makes me lean towards the note 20 ultra. & to be honest, the only thing I praise the xperia for over the note is that it produces way more natural colors, but the Samsung images & footages even though obviously color Boosted is way better in every other way, & by this I mean when it comes to dynamic range, exposure, sharpness, details etc.... & the fact that the Samsung is way better in low light performance. The portrait mode on the xperia is really mediocre too, & i wont even bother to talk about the front camera. But apart from those things the xperia will perform well in good lighting when you use the manual modes properly, & with the help of a tripod & editing software you can tune your images. But sony really needs to take on some computational capabilities to fix thier dynamic range & exposure issues, & add a night mode. While still retaining the natural colors.
Currently using this one awsome fabulous camera and the display is incredible 4k movies to watch is just like Astonishing no display can compare with this SONY ❤❤
@@diddymies I mean, it doesn't fix your 1ii, but if you buy a Xperia 5 ii you won't have overheading issues. I can't remember if they installed an app or if it was by using a cable but I saw a review where they tested the phone while gaming and it didn't overheated
The Xperia 1 and 5 has Samsung sensors on the ultra wide 16mm. And you could see the quality difference with the main cam easily.. BUT the dynamic range was sometimes BETTER then the main cam, even in HDR mode.. (photo) i hoped this one , because is has a Sony Exmor RS sensor, would be better. But this video made me question that.
Because HDR effect is intended to be stronger on ultra wide lens. Take raw photos of the three sensor and you will immediately notice that the dynamic range and color of the Sony sensor is much better
@@BrbZrk_2 yes with the MK2 you can use raw for the three lenses, the HDR strength will be more aggressive on the ultra wide tho. But with raw the main lens is better

Please try cinema camera on Sony Xperia 5 II with 4k 120fps
Good take michael
I agree a million percent with every word lol
@@bassemzammeli1553 don't forget 4k 120fps recording, first ever on a phone...
Note 20 ultra vs the xperia which one did you prefer to use how would you rate them

Please review Vivo X50 PRO (GIMBAL SYSTEMIZED CAMERA)
I have seen a lot of people complaining that this phone overheats but the Xperia 5 ii fixes that so.. Sony is definitely back
how does Xperia 5ii fix it?
@@diddymies I mean, it doesn't fix your 1ii, but if you buy a Xperia 5 ii you won't have overheading issues.
I can't remember if they installed an app or if it was by using a cable but I saw a review where they tested the phone while gaming and it didn't overheated
Try McPro24fps app on the Sony. Shoot log in 10 bit.
CinemaPro already shoot in 10bits HLG
Can u do a video comparison...?
Nice vid
Thanks so much!
Sony is the best in quality, simple.
Yup, I shot a short cinematic film with mine th-cam.com/video/tBTa0Mv_GY4/w-d-xo.html
The Xperia 1 and 5 has Samsung sensors on the ultra wide 16mm. And you could see the quality difference with the main cam easily.. BUT the dynamic range was sometimes BETTER then the main cam, even in HDR mode.. (photo)
i hoped this one , because is has a Sony Exmor RS sensor, would be better. But this video made me question that.
Because HDR effect is intended to be stronger on ultra wide lens.
Take raw photos of the three sensor and you will immediately notice that the dynamic range and color of the Sony sensor is much better
@@ES-qy2ju hmm.. Ok. On the 1 and 5 there is no RAW option. But if it is true what u say than im happy cos imgetting the 5 mkII
@@BrbZrk_2 yes with the MK2 you can use raw for the three lenses, the HDR strength will be more aggressive on the ultra wide tho. But with raw the main lens is better
♥️ Sony Xperia
does it shoot raw file
Samsung Note 9 and S9 phones have adjustable aperture
