Sony Xperia 1 Camera vs S10+ and P30 Pro

  • Comparing Sony's Xperia 1 tri-lens camera versus the Samsung Galaxy S10+ and Huawei P30 Pro, to see which 2019 smartphone shoots the best photo and video samples.
    Sony has overhauled the camera hardware and software for its new Xperia 1 flagship device. Now you have an ultra-wide-angle and telephoto lens, just like the Samsung S10+ and P30 Pro - but what does that mean for shooting everyday pics and movies?
    Well, the Galaxy and Huawei are still superior for night shots and HDR smarts, but the Xperia 1 does boast incredibly fast focus thanks to the next-gen eye tracking software. It's definitely one of the best smartphone cameras of 2019 for shooting kids!
    All three of these devices can record home movies up to 4K resolution, although the P30 Pro and S10 Plus again are superior for HDR situations and stabilisation. And Huawei's telescope zoom design means it's easily the greatest here for distant snaps.
    Check out my three-day Xperia 1 review for all you need to know about Sony's flagship phone, and you can also check out my camera deep dive for more on features like Cinema Pro.

      While recording in 1080 it's superb. 4K recording is where it suffers.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      mkeonine I think that 4K recording for 99% of users is of little importance. For me and my family and friends we all use 1080p, it is the optimum and far more important than 4K. With steady shot the 1080p recordings are great.
      I do agree that if you are going to allow 4K you have to try and maybe an update will follow.
      However, 4K simply consumes too much space and unless you are doing it for Pro reasons then 1080p to share is better. Imagine sending a 5 minute recording in 4K at 60FPS to a friend? That is 2-4gb depending on the bit rate and format, to send and receive, and storing such large files for the long term is expensive, though HEVC has helped of late (7 mbps).
      So for most the 4K tests influencers do are superfluous and really they should probably concentrate on 1080p as this will be far more useful to the masses.

      @@faizasyraf9073 Don't judge the battery by its size. The Xperias have one of the best examples of battery life optimisation on the market. And Huawei has an ugly Chinese, bloatware-filled Android skin, EMUI. I'm using it on my Honor 8, but because of the terrible RAM management, even with 4GB of RAM, it stutters. And EMUI looks like an amateur copy of iOS. So I REALLY hate it. Sony's TimeScape UI is clean, close to stock Android, just like OxygenOS, it has extra functions built into it compared to stock Android (PlayStation services, DualShock 4 controller support, Smart Connect, an application similar to Bixby Routines on Samsung devices, a game mode which boosts the screen's refresh rate to 120 Hz and many other useful features). I have three possible phones that could potentially replace my Honor 8: OnePlus 7 (Not the Pro version because it's bigger. I chose the OnePlus because it's a tinkerer's dream phone, there are lots of custom ROMs for it to install after the end of official software support.), Samsung Galaxy S10e (because of the camera and the phone's small size) and Sony Xperia 1 (because of brand loyalty and Sony's user and software experience). It's the battle of the power-user, the photographer and the loyal Sony buyer inside of me.

The only exception is the zoom of P30 pro but that is not such a problem for someone who really wants a smartphone for camera and have a know-how mood (including the fact about avoiding auto mode). Not to mention Xperia 1 is now in my country with the lowest starting price tag of all (and even the other 2 have now some price cuts still Xperia is better/priced than the others). The merger between SONY mobile, Kameras and Television just happend in may. And they got order from higher up in the company to work together with SONY mobile just 2 months before that. So that would problably mean they are still working with the software. Wich they officially stated to Xperiablog.

    • @Dragontrumpetare
      @Dragontrumpetare 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JohnnyKan BUt to be honest Even now, the biggest issure with the XPERIA camera is the shaking, but you can clearly see that even if it shakes, the picture is in sense rock steady and clear. So that means, if you stop walking around filming cinematic movies, and kinda do like a moviemake films stuff. They usually stay at the place or use gimbals, it would be really really nice movies.
      Everyone that showes up phones that have slightly bad stabilization never really stops and try to make it stop shaking. This guy isnt doing it either. Even Xperia 10 plus can get really nice 21:9 cinema clips if you pan slowly and gently, and moves as little as possible. Just think if you do have a handheld gimble, it would be not bad.
      WE have to remember that its the first time SONY is using OIS so maybe they havent gotten that thing right.

      @@Dragontrumpetare am glad with what Sony offers, and i dont mind waiting for firmware update. Also i really like the camera so far. With proper light conditions, the photos and videos can come really great and stunning.
      Unfortunately i do not know when the phone will be released in Greece.
      I think is not solely OIS fault, probably it has to do something with software and the integration of OIS and EIS working simultaneously.

    • @leroymentor9932

  • @timaustin2000
    @timaustin2000 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    While generally interesting, I think a few points in favour of the X1 have been missed. While HDR is not always on by default, you can select it in manual, which brings the night shot exposure up to the P30s level.
    Also, no mention that the 1080p Steadyshot buries the HD stabilisation on both of the others? Or that the colour accuracy on the X1 is exemplary? Or that you can adjust the wide angle software to remove all barrelling on the Sony while you can't on the other two?
    Agree completely that Sony need to work on their 4k stabilisation, however. It's poor.

    I'm honestly not too surprised with the camera from the Xperia 1. It is good but not up to the level of the S10+ or the P30 pro in most scenarios. Sony alpha cameras tend to suffer from jutters as well even when using a Sony OSS lens and I often need a gimble to get nice steady footage. The only standout feature for me is the 21:9 4K HDR with cinema pro capture as my other cameras don't currently support the format natively (have to crop 30mm or 35mm footage).
    That all being said, I still want to pick one up once it arrives in the states as I'm a die-hard sony fan :D
