@@BasedOrthoBro Yes, everyone is welcome. Serbian Orthodox Church is just like any other church, and it is, officially, "One, holy, universal and apostolic church." Not to be interpreted that it is "the only true church", it is just one of the Orthodox churches joined in communion, sharing the same beliefs and rules. Historically, people like Aleksandar Deroko (De Rocco), Palavestra family, author Stanislav Krakov (Stanislaw Krakow) and many others were admitted into the Serbian Orthodox Church without being Serbs. The language used in SOC depends on the territory: in Serbia, it's Serbian or Churchslavonic, in the USA it's more commonly English. In, say, Netherlands, since many worshippers are not Serbian, it's a combo of English, Dutch and Serbian. Hope this is helpful. :-)

I've been thinking very seriously about converting to Christianity but I've been very careful to learn about all the branches and denominations and make an informed decision. My family is historically Catholic on both sides, and being raised in the US, the only options always seemed to be either a form of Protestantism or Catholicism. I've found myself extremely drawn to the traditions, art style, architecture, music, and history of Catholicism. But I couldn't get past what is happening with the modern state of the Catholic church. I felt myself greatly questioning the authority and intentions of the Catholic Church, for a multitude of reasons. This video brought even more problems to my attention. I'm definitely going to look more into Orthodoxy now, you have piqued my interest. Great video.

It seems confusing because they use the word "Orthodox" in their churches, but their theology, especially that of the coptics, is radically different. They are not in ecumenical standing with other Orthodox jurisdictions like that of the Romanian, Antiochian, or Russian Orthodox, which operate as one faith. The same logic of the standard of communion for Vatican II in standing with the Byzantine Catholics or FSSP. They are still in communion, (though at one point things were unstable with the FSSP).

@@BasedOrthoBro Where are these quotes from? Which books or letters? You just threw them out here without quoting a single source.
Peter also founded the Churches of Alexandria and Antioch, which means that if supremacy over the other Churches was a thing, Rome would be competing for it.
The Pope of Rome, the Patriarch of Alexandria, and the Patriarch of Antioch (among others) are the successors of Peter by lineage, all bishops are successors to Peter and this is reflected in patristic sources, such as:
      St. Isidore of Seville (+636):
“So Peter first received the power of binding and loosing, and he first led people to faith by the power of his preaching. Still, the other Apostles have been made equal with Peter in a fellowship of dignity and power. They also, having been sent out into all the world, preached the Gospel. Having descended from these apostles, the bishops have succeeded them, and through all the world they have been established in the seats of the apostles” ~De Ecclesiasticus, II.5, M.P.L., Vol. 83, Col. 781-782.
Pope St. Gregory the Great (+604):
“To Eulogius, Bishop of Alexandria. Your most sweet Holiness has spoken much in your letter to me about the chair of Saint Peter, Prince of the apostles, saying that he himself now sits on it in the persons of his successors. And indeed I acknowledge myself to be unworthy, not only in the dignity of such as preside, but even in the number of such as stand. But I gladly accepted all that has been said, in that he has spoken to me about Peter’s chair who occupies Peter’s chair.” ~Registrum Epistolarum, Book VII, Letter 40
      ~~
Furthermore, the Roman Catholic church has *literally* committed heresy. It is impossible for a single bishop to change the [Nicean] Creed without consulting with the entire Body of the Church in an Ecumenical Council. As St. Cyprian of Carthage explains in “On the Unity of the Church”, all of the apostles received the keys and passed them to the bishops through succession. The fathers at the 5th ecumenical council specifically and dogmatically told Pope Vigilius that one bishop cannot determine matters of faith alone, as there is “no other way the truth can be made manifest” other than within a conciliar context. Otherwise, there would be a mess of denominations all based on skewed personal interpretations, with no way to discern what is the Truth (hello Protestantism).
      ~~
Lastly what is referred to as the "Mother Church" or "The Root" is not Rome but Jerusalem as seen in:
      - “O Holy Sion, thou *Mother of all the Churches of God,* in thee in fiery likeness did the Comforter Spirit come down on the Apostles with awesome descent. So rejoice now and celebrate this day of Pentecost longed-for by all the world, and keep festival with us in joy”. (Pentecostarion, Friday of Pentecost, Matins, Praises, Troparion 3)
      - "If you be Catholic Christians, communicate with that Church from which the Gospel is spread abroad the whole earth: communicate with Jerusalem"
      and
      - "Christ made there (Jerusalem) the beginning of the preaching of His name: and you shrink back with horror from having communion with that city. No marvel that being cut off, you hate the Root". (St. Augustine's Homily 2 on the First Epistle of John)
      - "Of the Church at Jerusalem, *mother of all Churches* , we make known that the right reverend and most religious Cyril is bishop"
(Synodical letter from the 2nd Ecumenical Council)
As you can see, even though Jerusalem also has a Primacy of Honor, it never went beyond that to claim supremacy over the Churches (primacy =/= supremacy), because equality between them is fundamental in Apostolic Tradition. The reason Rome had primacy of honor was being a See of St. Peter (the original Seat of St. Peter being Antioch, Alexandria and Rome together) and being Seat of the Emperor of the Ecumene (Roman Empire) at the time, before the capital moved to Constantinople. Hence why Constantinople also enjoys Honorary Primacy by being called the "First among *equals".*

    @qqn4531 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

2:03 The thing is that, sedevacantists think that the whole post Vatican II magisterium is a fallacy, so any canonization provided by this church is invalid to them. Yes canonization is infallible, but only when it is promulgated by the true Church.
And there has always been what you called "innovations" in the Church even before the Schism. Many bishops belived in arianism, gnoticism etc. until it was debunked by councils. Also, the Virgin Mary wasn't prayed to and honored during the first centuries of the Church. It is not because a thelogical breakthrough emerges after the first millenium that it isn't true.
The Orthodox Church believes that there are Mysteries, correct? So why is it surprising to you that some of these mysteries are being unravelled over time and that they are finally understood by humans after a period of time? Even though humans have the chance of being given the teachings of the Apostles and the Holy Scipture, there are still some mysteries in the christian theology that are waited to be revealed and that are found in the apostolic teachings and the Scriptures!
And so the doctrine of the papal infaillibility doesn't come from no where. In Luc 22, we read that the Lord has prayed so that the Faith of Peter would never fall apart. That means that all the teachings of the successors of Peter have to be correct regarding the apostolic Tradition, because otherwise, it would mean that Jesus cannot hold his promises.
If someone who was elected Pope is acting in way that proves that his Faith has fallen, then it is not possible that he is the Pope, because Jesus Christ always holds his promises.

I love the Catholic Church for a lot of reasons.
But the reason I am moving from my conservative Lutheran faith toward Orthodoxy is because of all these reasons. If you want to be faithful to Christ's Church and study back to what most of the ancient Saints taught.... It's just the logical destination.
Though, the move has been hard. No Orthodox parish within an hour drive, I work every Sunday, I cant afford the transit right now with my gas guzzling trucks, and my wife converted from Catholicism to Lutheranism when I showed her all the contradictions. She is so involved in the church (teaches Sunday school, three of her friends are Lutheran pastor's wives).
And of course, there is an LCMS church two blocks away..... my soul is torn because I don’t want to keep my kids out of going to church. I want it to be part of their lives. But I want to move out of the church I keep attending.

But the talks with ROCOR and the Old Catholics broke down. It was a perfect opportunity to make a Western Rite. Of course, the OC mission failed, Old Catholics are just too small of church to keep them running. Now, I have to travel a good distance to a ROCOR parish. Hey Kyle, I'm RC who attends Mass said by priests of the SSPX. I converted to Catholicism because I wanted the Traditions and truths of Christianity. I am now heavily drawn to the Orthodox Church for mostly liturgical and theological reasons, but I am stuck in this horrible position where half my allegiance lies with Rome and the other half lies with the Orthodox.
This is difficult for me because it seems that I am stuck in the middle. I have also recently married in the RC Church and I think my marriage would be destroyed if I converted to Orthodox. Do you have any advice or suggestions for me during this time?

@@OrthodoxKyle At the end of the day, I'm just not compelled by Orthodox apologetics. There is beauty in the East, but there are problems also. To be honest, I'd sooner become an atheist than Orthodox or Protestant.
The Catholic Church at it's core is the bedrock of Western Civilization. I love its contributions to music, art, philosophy, theology, etc. But more than that, I love how universal it truly is, how seriously it has taken it's mission of evangelization.
The Catholic Church is represented in the global South and East, which is largely ignored by the Orthodox. The Church there has largely been a force against tyrants like in the Phillipines and South Korea, as well as in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Theologically, I accept the Pope's authority and don't frankly care about the constant soyjacking about things like the Filioque, and I think most normal people don't really care (I accept the Catholic view).
I think that the traditionalist mindset you experienced might have driven you away because we Catholics are just as vulnerable as anyone to succumb to pride and gossip, and the criticism of this current papacy can lead one to wonder why stay Catholic if you don't like the Pope?
At the end of the day, I equate my relationship with our Pope to the relationship with my father. I might not always like what my dad has to say, but I am bound to honor him, to listen to him, and to interpret his words with kindness and charity.
At my core, I feel zero ties to the Eastern Orthodox tradition. I am ethnically Croat on my mother's side and have seen the ugliness of how the religious divide between Croats and Serbs can lead to war and suffering. I pray for unity, though I know not how or when it come, except through Jesus Christ. Pax Christi.

I like West civ art, music, philosophy too. I think it has a lot to offer but the East should be cherished also. Most people aren't even familiar with Eastern Theology or Eastern Church Fathers. I noticed that Catholic tend to focus on Augustine & Aquinas when we have soo much more.
Byzantine Theology by John Meyendorff is a good intro book.
"The Catholic Church is represented in the global South and East" The reality is that this can be largely explained by historical circumstances. France, Spain and Portugal were some of the biggest colonial powers that the world has ever seen. Naturally when they took over the world, they spread their religion also. I don't think this fact makes Catholicism true.
"which is largely ignored by the Orthodox. "
We have to consider historical circumstances. The East was under Ottoman Occupation for hundreds of years. Then also Communist.. And DESPITE that, Orthodoxy is spreading to all corners of the world. Look at this world map: kurskrootlodge.net/ParishLocator
      Orthodoxy is growing everywhere.

I showed historical evidence against the Papacy in the video, but I think this article is easy to understand critique of Papal Infallibility. This view was never expressed in early Church, and how could a single man be infallible? even if just ex-cathedra...
      orthodoxinfo.com/inquirers/papism.aspx
I think Pope Francis is a symptom of a larger problem.. I think the other modern Popes have arguably been even more problematic . like John Paul 2. I don't see any way to justify his actions.. And I don't understand how Catholic Church radically changed their liturgy, it is so different then what it used to be & they are only trying to drive out TLM.
"At my core, I feel zero ties to the Eastern Orthodox tradition. " I don't feel any ties either? I am not Eastern, I am western. But I became Orthodox because they have the true teaching.
Think of First Century Gentile Christians, they could have said I feel zero ties to Jewish Christian Tradition".. But they didn't. The Gentile Christians joined the faith because they knew it was true. Also East & West share the first 1000 years so you should feel some ties to the East. Go check out a Melkite Catholic Church if you want to experience something close to the East, but I think Orthodoxy is the answer.

I am currently wrestling with whether to go Orthodox or Catholic as I likely move out of Anglicanism within the future. What is your opinion on Western Rite Orthodoxy? Coming from a Traditionalist Catholic background, I am sure you still appreciate much of the beauty of Western liturgics, so considering there are validly ordained clergy in the Orthodox Church (Antiochian) who celebrate the Liturgy of St Gregory, do you think that there is a value in maintaining the value of historic Western practice corrected to Orthodox understanding? I have found myself coming to greatly appreciate Western liturgics while also loving Eastern theology, so I am interested in the Western Rite Orthodox project. Or do you think broken theological tradition is too closely connected to the liturgical tradition itself?

I considered Orthodoxy first, I watched Orthodox Wisdom and I still do to this day. But somehow I managed to convince myself that Roman Catholicism is better, because it has the Papacy. I knew about the pagan stuff involving Pope JPII and his successors, the contradictions and errors of Vatican 2 and still justified them to myself and listened to other Trad Catholics justify it to me. All the mental gymnastics I had to do in order to make Vatican 2 not sound like heresy. I was skeptical of Papal infallibility. It didn’t make sense to me and it still doesn’t. Is the Pope over the councils? Is he equal to them? I need help guys cause I invested so much time into something that I was fully convinced is true despite the warning signs. I love the Latin Saints before V2. I love the Latin liturgy. But I also love Orthodox Saints, the orthodox liturgy, and I even have a chokti that I pray with everyday. For now, I’m still a TradCath. But how, mate? I love the Latin Mass and I reckon it’s the best Western liturgical rite and I think there should be a Western Latin tradition in the Orthodox Church, but ultimately the truth is what matters the most. That’s why I’m here. Not whether I prefer the Latin rite or the Byzantine rite. But that’s the point. That’s why I’m watching these videos and many other Orthodox Christians like Ubi Petrus and Jay Dyer who were former Traditional Catholics btw. They haven’t gone back to Roman Catholicism for a pretty clear reason, but I don’t see how the opposite is happening. If you bring up Reason and Theology’s Michael Lofton for example, he’s more or less a liberal Catholic trying to scare TradCaths looking into Orthodoxy for simply observing how the church operated for the first millennium. In which case, the Orthodox Church makes much more sense to me because the Ecumenical Councils for one are infallible, but there’s nothing papal about them in terms of Vatican 1 standards. I’ve listened to hours worth of R&T but nothing cracked.

Orthodoxy is liturgical protestantism; valid sacraments but still protestantism.

Ancient Church was refuting and rejecting heresies all the time. If you call that a "protestantism" then yes... we always protest to any heresy and Latins have a load of them.

why say ''orthodox vs catholic'' instead creating a mindset of catholic AND orthodoxy. Even though history has separated our theology, but we can compliment each other instead of creating the mentality of ''us against them''

I was born and raised Novus Ordo Catholic, in the most Catholic part of the US. From my experience the vast majority of Catholics have no clue what the TLM is, are practically protestant but Catholicism has some ethnic importance to them, and they care very little for who the Pope is or what he says. It always makes me chuckle when the trads make broad statements on the positions most Catholics have towards all the modernism. Most Catholics don't even think of Vatican 2 as modernism to them it's just normal Catholicism, nor do they take their faith seriously they are just lukewarm Christians. Trads live in a bubble that prevent them from making accurate statements on their own religion, sad.

I agree totally with you Kyle. However, there are some places in the world where there are no Orthodox Churches where one can be part of. The only alternative is a Catholic Church. If I could become Orthodox i would be running to join. The Lord knows our situation and indeed places us and with that I must be content. But my question is what does one do when there is no Orthodox Church within a days drive?
