If I was the CEO of any other factory team I would invite this kid over for a weekend and let him ride all the factory bikes. Let him bring the gopro and he can even put the video up on TH-cam. Imagine the good publicity you would get from that. The kid has serious balls by trying to claim deegans bike and he didnt even do anything wrong.

He failed. He was strongarmed into dropping the claim out of fear of losing sponsors. At what point does the law have to get involved? Some dude spent 3 days in county jail and was fined 12,000$ for putting lead weights in his fish during a derby. Hayden was NOT cheating. His entire team WAS cheating when they protested the claim rule and continued to ride the bike. What the fuck are rules even for?

It's in place (as discussed in the video) to dissuade teams from running bikes that are unobtainable or prohibitably expensive bikes at an amateur level.
If yamaha had built the bike with the rules in mind (as other teams do), they would not risk the potential loss of 10's of thousands of dollars and could simply take the money and build another bike.

The claim rule is good and serves a purpose but this situation shows that it definitely needs to be amended. For example, anybody making a claim should be free to remain anonymous if they choose. There should be no outside interference allowed to happen. You make the claim, lay down the cash, the bike gets tagged/impounded/etc, then the claimant should be free to pick the bike up at a reasonable location and in a manner that helps prevent all of the outside interests from playing their games.

@@crazyman2821 of course the cheating thing was crap. Doesn't matter. The claim rule exists to try to prevent people from dumping tons of money into bikes and using unobtanium parts. That can all be legal, but you risk losing all of the money and custom parts if somebody puts up the cash to claim it. His reasoning doesn't matter. When you sign up, you agree to forfeit you bike by way of the claim rule if somebody wants to go that route. People have claimed plenty of bikes solely because of their value. If we all agree to run 10,000 bikes and you show up with a 50,000 bike, why wouldnt somebody claim yours? Cheating isn't the issue and was only ever mentioned by people who weren't part of the situation and who have no idea what they're talking about. The kid should've followed thru with the claim. Its extremely likely that Lorettas was as far as he'd ever go anyway so there's no need to worry about burning bridges in the industry. I mean in the end the kid made the decision to not buy it. He realized that the repercussions were way more severe than the bike was worth. Truthfully that’s what Matt walker was telling him by saying it’s an unwritten rule. You know if you do that to a team there’s gonna be repercussions. Yamaha could have just said nope your not taking it and loaded it up and took it back to the shop. Maiden would have had to deal with the consequences. So Yamaha just turned around and said ok you can buy this bike, but this will be your consequences. Everybody saying it’s a rule they should have let him take it are so out of touch with the big picture. It’s like people who walk out in cross walks in front of trucks because they have the right to cross and the truck has to stop. The amount of r&d work into those bikes is years and years. That r&d goes into the production bikes over the next few years. If you think Yamaha was just gonna say yeah sure here take the bike, let’s us get you a little care package of extra parts I’m surprised you can even read or spell to be able to comment.

The rule is there so factories don’t send their too secret stuff to an amateur race and keeps the playing field somewhat level. Maybe it needs to be revamped, but the kid did nothing wrong and it sounds like he was feared into not going through with the claim. The Deegan’s really shouldn’t have been involved with this anyways because it’s not their bike. They have nothing invested into it. It’s the teams bike and they chose to run the bike they did and they got called on it. This same exact same thing happened in the late 70's and 80's between Gary Scott and the factory Harley Davidson flat track team. But the AMA was not happy when someone would try and claim a factory bike as H-D ran the AMA. The AMA would let a bunch of counter claims pour in so it would dilute the pool and chances of the original claimant getting the engine as only the engine was claimed back then. And to top it off Gary Scott was a former factory rider but the factory made sure it was not in line to get any parts form H-D.

In my opinion ,If everyone involved with that team, Star Racing Yamaha, and they went that far NOT to lose the motor, then there obviously was something inside that was beyond stock and outside the rules. The whole purpose of the claim rule is to self regulate the factorys so they do NOT spend excessive money on exotic materials or machine it beyond what non factory temas cannot do. IT was to keep AMA pro and amatuear Racing affordable for privateers yo have a fair shot at Racing against the top factory teams. Before the production rule American pro motocross had one off factory machines that were unobtainable , exotic and so far above a stock bike that only factory teams could win, even smaller motorcycle companies didnt per se like the anything goes factory bikes because the larger companies could spend double, even triple what they could reasonably afford. The production rule gave is consumers of mx bikes better and better eqp. Lowered the cost of Racing for ALL the teams( in theory) and evened the racing field a little. There certaintly are more local experts and pro privateers now doing very well these days. Look at MXGP where they still have factory bikes. There isnt even a full gate of racers for the main motos let alone 80 people trying to qualify for 40 spots in each class at a AMA national. Little by little the factory teams have out diatanced their bikes from stock ones that this Claim rule is supposed to keep in check. If more people did it....the factory teams wouldnt try to push the rules to the limit and beyond. One thing for sure, it took this kid a lot of balls to claim of all peoples bike. Hayden Deegan. Me personally i would claim Eli Tomacs....lol( even tho i know i cant...you have to be in same class....its a joke already) Bbrraappp!!

I Never said anything about star Yamaha cheating only they have something they shouldnt ( excessive Money invested= unfair advantage) so even if everything was légal the mère fact that they spent crazy Money time and recources is why their bike was claimed. A crash in 2003 left me with a broken neck. As an adult, I’m an electrical engineer… here’s how I see it; a claim I’ve heard multiple times is that Donnie warned “We have a lot of technology in that motor we don’t want released to the public” & “you won’t be able to service this engine, you won’t be able to get all the necessary parts to service it”. Consider the fact that during moto 2, Even Ferry’s footpeg got tangled in the spokes of one of Haiden Deegan’s wheels & Haiden DNF’d or was disqualified… the 3rd moto was a throw-away moto for Deegan… I suspect they were using that moto to test the feasibility of Electronic-Controlled Valves _(& a camless valve train)_ the lower rotating mass could *considerably* increase acceleration & rev a little higher. The variable valve timing would be continuously-variable (Instead of being limited to _Regular_ & _VTEC_ halves of a cam lobe), *however* engine timing would require probably specialized interface hardware or at the very least special proprietary computer software. In the off-chance it all works through a _Plug-&-Play_ ECU, one of these guys wouldn’t have the first *CLUE* about the idiosyncrasies of Yamaha’s Camless ValveTrain & Engine Timing… it’s a prototype, so many parts are _one-off_

The way they reacted it was clear they were cheating in some way. Whether that was by putting an amateur on a factory bike or by outright cheating can never be known.
