@@traveler142 the only people who had anything to lose in this situation were Yamaha/Star Yamaha and the Deegan's. Why a claim would get withdrawn after a specific plan is made to make the claim, come up with $18k in cash etc. Then you would have us believe he rescinded the claim totally of his own free will just because he changed his mind.....get real, it's not a realistic scenario.
Why would the meeting get "aggressive" if not by the side NOT wanting the claim to proceed? There is no logic in any of the claimers being aggressive. Matt didn't realize that rescinding the claim made it look far worse. I have listened to all the interviews so far and to me Brennan and Derek Harris come out looking the best in this whole situation. If not bullying there was strong intimidation. Matt's credibility as a trainer took a big hit for not backing his rider like Derek did for doing something that was well within the rules. Clearly there was pressure from Yamaha Corporation on Brennan's sponsor for that information get to them so fast up in Canada. Tim Cotter should be banned next year at Loretta Lynn and Star/Yamaha should be fined

I mean is it really that clear that there was intimidation by Yamaha to the sponsor? Think of it this way: If you were sponsoring a kid and giving him FREE race bikes for the past 3 years, and then you find out that he just dropped almost $18k on someone else’s used bike and THEN plans on racing it up in Canada the next weekend, would you be thrilled? I know I wouldn’t be, and it doesn’t surprise me that his dealership dropped him and made him return the bikes even though he dropped the claim. Just some food for thought

You call Brennan a victim here, But he’s FAR from that! He had been trashing Haiden and the Deegan family for A LONG TIME! I’ve been a racer my whole life and I’ve had to deal with some of these EXACT things! The “Daddy buys you everything’s” The “You win all the time because you have the best equipment” The “F that guy just because his family can afford nice equipment..” AND had another Racer CLAIM MY ENGINE!!! I’m a DLM Racer, and several years back there was a claim rule that stated your engine could be claimed & you could either take the money, take their engine and basically swap engines, OR Decline to sell, Lose ALL your points and sit out 3 weeks. Well, when mine was claimed I was the points leader, so we had to do it. This kid can say he did this because he wanted to ride the bike, BUT… He CLEARLY had been trashing the Deegans out of spite & jealousy! Not to mention the social media comments Brennan had been making made him look a lot worse. So it doesn’t matter how “Well” he acted during this process, Because he had already lit a fire by trashing them and running his trap, being a little punk. Be Honest, How would you act? Would you be pissed and do anything you could to stop it? Especially to someone that had been acting like an Ahole?!?! If you say you wouldn’t, That’s Absolute BS!!!! Furthermore, in this type of situation, OF COURSE THERE WOULD BE REPERCUSSIONS & CONSEQUENCES!!!! These Factory Teams want to keep their secrets and knowledge close to their vests, So OF COURSE They are going to be upset and take action! As for Matt, He makes a living off motocross and has relationship’s with SO MANY people in the industry, So OF COURSE THAT PUTS HIM IN A HORRIBLE SPOT!!! You people don’t realize just how big of a deal something like this is, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY HOW CLAIMING SOMETHING IS GOING TO RUFFLE FEATHERS, GOING TO CAUSE HIGH EMOTIONS AND YOU CAN BET YOUR ASS, IT WILL CAUSE YOU PROBLEMS!!! So don’t be surprised when Sh!+ hits the fan, don’t run and cry about it… If ya play stupid games, Ya win stupid prizes…
Claiming someone’s stuff is BS, Regardless if someone has the best stuff etc, WORK HARD, PUT IN THE TIME, & DO IT THE RIGHT WAY…

That’s just the fact of the matter, even in his interview he’s showed nothing but respect and wanted to buy that bike legally! He didn’t accuse anyone of cheating or say Deegan wasn’t an incredible rider…he simply wanted to ride a bike coming from the Star factory potentially and looks like he was right. I feel bad for both kids tho, Brennan will be basically looked down upon from now on by these adults involved who are all in powerful positions that can affect his career going forward. Then we have Hayden who never even needed all of these performance factory parts to win and now he’s in the middle of this nonsense. WOW! Yamaha , represented by what is shown in these interviews, would not do well in a courtroom. Bullying? It seems vague when Matt Walker, tells a child/kid that this is a “mistake” it and it will "muddy the waters" and it "will hurt you down the road," that, could certainly be see as bullying! Challenging potential corruption, standing up for all riders fairness, questioning unfair activity at the sponsor level seems like a gallant stand that maybe should not have be questioned from a sponsor! There does not need to be a reason that is asked over and over, according to this rule. The kid was clear as day why he was doing it. He followed the rules and stood up for the rights of many amateur racers. He should never have been " told he will muddy waters" on the behalf of sponsor interests. Did Yamaha cheat? Not technically and that is unknown without opening the bike. Was Yamaha fair to all amateur riders bringing such an expensive bike to the race? Absolutely NOT! Is being unfair viewed as cheating in the public view, the families risking so much to support their kids, people on a budget to make this sport event? Most likely it will be seen as a cheating effort, in the later respect with fans, but the aggressive defense for the sponsor to fight this, will certainly reflect poorly on Yamaha and MXsports.
It certainly seems, now, that Yamaha , defended the use of expensive bikes that are not fair to all riders. Will they also be viewed as being unfair to the majority of fans?
If there was an addition to this rule, that if a sponsor threatens the individual, demands a reasons for why they want the bike, they be banned from the event for 2 years. would they have responded the same way then?
MXsports out of line? Why for any reason on earth was ANY representative from MXSports, a sponsor organizer, assuming authority talking to this minor alone and asking why they wanted or not to proceed with action? The article in racerX seemed like such a coverup based on the wording and now this confirms this .
Yamaha got caught red handed by what they admitted to? Wow! Fans want to see racers be part of the event that is about the racers and when sponsors control things, threaten the riders, maybe fans should rise up and send a message to those sponsors; don’t buy their products.
Will the fan base cancel their racer X subscriptions, challenge MavTV with your credit card for poor quality put the charges in dispute and cancel the subscription, don't buy Yamaha products? Maybe some will, maybe those that suffer from this type of response will.
One thing to remember is that fans are the money and can be the power send a message they support riders over sponsors. Fans have the power to cripple the sponsors and help racers that challenge sponsor corruption .
It seems as though a good attorney would destroy Tim Cotter, IF you study body language (bobbing of the head, arms folded - usually indicates hiding information as in protection of the heart/chest, repetition, possessive juncture in speech) he clearly was acting on behalf of MXsports and sponsor interests not the athletes. He claims “ownership” as authorities as “ours” when it was the AMA. It is very clear from watching his reactions, tone of voice he is on the defense for questions not requiring defense. The reason “why, “ should NEVER have been asked by MXsports or Tim Cotter. MXsports is sitting now as an open can of worms responsible for this mess when you listen to him.

Those questions and answers are what we the people wanted to hear from Matt and Donnie. The big big question that EVERYBoDY wants to know is; "What exactly made Brennan retract his claim?" We wanted Brennan to GET that bike!!! We wish he didn't retract his claim!!! When Matt said, "You don't want to do this because it will stick with you throughout your career". The question is; What will stick with you? What harm would it cause? Why would shouldn't he stick with his claim? I would have!! Instead of having a Star Yamaha Bike, Brennan got gipped. Of course it looked like Star was using unfair technology to advantage themselves above the competition.

  • @chadmiller1997
    @chadmiller1997 ปีที่แล้ว +79

The three ‘losers’ in this whole thing are Yamaha, Matt Walker, and most importantly, Brennan Schofield.
Yamaha is CLEARLY the reason, in this instance, the rule is in place. They CLEARLY had too much tech and intellectual property invested into that bike. It is unclear to me if Yamaha pressured the dealer that sponsors Brennan but they CLEARLY did not want to lose that bike. And offering things that even Luce states he has no idea if he can actually make happen is an extremely bad look for Yamaha.
Matt Walker’s interview was no value added for me. No mention of him threatening the motor guy or kicking them out of his pit. No mention of physical aggression which I feel probably happened. He’s always been a hot head. I’m sure he acted inappropriately as the others stated. He and Luce glazed over way too many details in their stories. You’ll notice that Brennan and the motor guy gave lots of intricate details whereas they just generalized the entire encounter. Not cool. They look like liars or that they are trying to downplay their poor handling of the situation.
Lastly, poor Brennan. Let me say that again, POOR BRENNAN! He wants to do something that is completely within the rules and at the end of the day he doesn’t get the bike he paid for, it’s unclear whether or not he’ll get the two Yamaha motors or a trip to the goat farm, his trainer threatens to beat up his motor guy, and he goes home to Canada to find out he has to return his bikes to the Yamaha dealership! So he gets 14th at Loretta’s, adheres to the rules and loses his bikes! That is completely insane! This is not ok and the AMA needs to look into it further.
In no way does this look bad on the Deegans. Say what you want about Brian talking to the kid. It doesn’t sound like he was disrespectful or talked to him for very long and it clearly didn’t change Brennan’s mind. Hayden just shows up and rides a bike. What Yamaha decides to do with their bikes is their own fault, not the Deegans.
I’d like to see something in the rule state that parents must be present or notified like Cotter and the AMA guy said but also there should be additional verbiage regarding the claim itself - there is no reason for ANYONE to ask “why” a claim is being made, period. “Why” is not relevant to the equation. It should simply be “ok, let’s figure out how to make this happen fairly for all parties,” that’s it. I understand Brian asked “why” because he’s just trying to protect his kid but the AMA or MX Sports should never ask “why.”

He basically backed up everything said in part 1, then walker comes out way off (and obviously on script) and it's ridiculously obvious he's completely full of BS because his story doesn't mesh with anything else said. So far he's the only person to oppose the rule, even Deegan and Luce said they support the rule. Curious what Prior is going to say in P3, since it's obvious he's going to be on a script too....Kind of hoping he gets a suspension or ban from racing up here in Canada regardless of whether he was pressured from above.

So what's the solution? A possibility that would benefit EVERYONE... Star Motorcycle sets up a closed session with Brennan to ride a factory works bike. Allow him to do his youtube video/review of it (non biased), Star Motorcycle works with Brennan and his engine builder on a deal (substantially discounted) on a few motors/support for a season contingent on 1) A non-disclosure agreement on the exact deal and anything from this incident and 2) He performs well, both as a rider and as a brand ambassador 3) No further discussion of the claiming incident.
Not a bribe, but a settlement/compromise that benefits all parties involved. Additionally the claim rule needs some tweaking to cover things like "AMA official and parent/guardian must be present for riders under the age of 18 y/o" etc. The Deegans may or may not have known what the bike actually was, but that really doesn't matter at this point. It's obvious that Haden is very talented and could win on most anything.
Another thing that would be an interesting move would be if another one of the manufacturers were to step up and make Brennan a similar offer. Will be interesting to see where this one goes.

The Deegans(mostly Brian) need to come out and apologize and what not. Though this entire thing should have been between Star Yami and Brennan, not Brian, not Matt, not Tim, etc.
But Brian has been posting a bunch of shit on Instagram like a child. Been watching Deegans YT for yearssss, been to every AZ Lucas oil race, been to a few in CA, and have supported them. But c’mon. Why does there have to be politics in all of this?
Haiden shows up and rides the bike he’s given. Same with Brennan. Claiming “Haidens” bike has nothing to do with Haiden. Brennan wanted a star bike. Fuck, my dream is to have a star bike(which will never happen. I love Yamaha, from YXZ, to MT-09, to YZ450F. If I had the chance to get a Star bike, I’d take it just like Brennan tried. The rule is their to keep people from putting way to much money into the bikes. And Brennan didn’t even care about that, he just wanted the bike.
Anyway, Brian should come out and say “look, Brennan just wanted a star bike, this entire thing blew up into a massive thing that it shouldn’t be. Brennan was following the rules, but Star didn’t/doesn’t want their tech being public. Star should have went to Brennan directly and not have all these parties involved, but the drama kicked in and everything unraveled quickly. Brennan should not have had his main sponsor drop him, y’all or someone should re-sign him. Again, this whole thing got way bigger than it should have and got messy for no reason. Their were no I’ll intention from any party. If anything, this claim sort of checks the MX community to remind us all of the rule.”
    Doubt that’ll happen.
I was watching Brian’s live a couple days ago, and he said that “I don’t think this will really harm the Deegan name or anything…(etc.)”
But dude. Yes it will. The way you portray yourself, the way you treat people, including me at some of Lucas oil events(was pouring rain and let us stand under y’all’s tent at Wild Horse Pass), has been awesome. Seem like a stand up dude that hasn’t been changed by all the money and fame.
But all of this shows kind of the opposite. I don’t think Brian had I’ll intentions, he was upset that someone claimed the bike, which is understandable, and he acted on emotions(just the questioning, which isn’t that bad). Seriously, just come out and say something. Literally a short “this got too big. None of this was intended, brennan followed a rule. We were opposed to the claim so we talked to him. The rest that happened afterwards are things that shouldn’t have happened. We wish Brennan the best and hope to see him at tracks in the future.”
Boom. Didn’t make yourself look bad, didn’t attack brennan, and your fans/supporters feel better about the situation.
Currently what is happening is: the Moto community and smaller brands are up Brennans ass with support because this is all fucked up. But you have Brian and the big wigs trying to control the situation. We’re all a community. A small one that is trying to grow. Build a couple bridges and get the fuck over it and drop politics. We all know why star didn’t want the claim(either pro motor or proprietary tech), we know why Deegan doesn’t want the claim(chance of people saying “they cheated”), etc. none of that will be said officially by any party. So come out and act like adults. Brennan is handling this like he’s done it 48384 times. Brian and everyone else is acting like 4 year olds.

No one did . Brennan assumed they did . Brennan is a little piece of shit to ruin deegans career and is jealous he doesn’t have a factory ride . You could see that he was jealous from the snaps at the end of part 1 of this . Brennan is a liar and he is only their to ruin peoples career . That’s why no one did anything about this . Vital is posting one more video about this let’s see what this one entails but the fact that he lied about coter and deegan being the only people in their with him shows what kind of person he is .

"So, they wanted Deegans bike. We couldn't let it get out to anyone, so we tried to bribe him with some engines, but they didn't want them, SO, we made some calls and magically, Brennen withdrew his claim. Easy peasy. Then we ruined him later on to show everyone how we roll."

Matt Walker is a hot head who helped himself get ahead somehow by helping Yamaha Corp. What deal or agreements behind closed doors to get yamaha's factory bike back will only take time to understand. The claiming rules is there for a more equal playing field for amateur racing, maybe we need to go back to the team green model program again to help more riders versus teams helping only a few riders with big budgets.

the only people to blame here are the upstart youtubers, spreading the misinformed guesses and opinions of their 'sources' and passing it off as fact. Everyone interviewed here has been perfectly reasonable. Thanks Michael for the huge effort in doing these interviews and clarifying things in such a professional way. Wish the other youtubers would take note.

    Facts:
1 - Brennan followed the AMA claim rules
2 - Yamaha gave a factory bike to Deegan for Loretta's
3 - Yamaha and Deegan's team tried to prevent the claim and blackmailed Brennan
4 - Brennan retracted the claim based on verbal agreement that he would keep his Yamaha sponsorship
5 - Brennan was LIED to and sponsorship was pulled from him
    PERIOD

Lost a lot of respect for the Deegan’s and Yamaha for what went down at Loretta’s. That is some shady shit cornering and essentially attempting to intimidate a minor. Then Yamaha calling and putting the squeeze on his sponsors to drop him unless he does away with the bike claim. Check the link below to see Brennan’s full interview:

Deegan’s really had nothing to do with it. Brian simply asked the kid a couple of questions and wanted to know why which any father would do. Sounds more like the kids sponsors heard about it and didn’t want any part of it and had the talk with the dad and how it wouldn’t have a good look for his son.
