I came on to comment on just how much I like you guys. I am 59 years old and disabled spending most of my day in bed. One of the few bright spots in my day is watching your videos. They make me smile and laugh and cover my eyes and embarrassment, it’s all wonderful. HANNAH your bright and sunny, personality, matches that beautiful hair of yours, and I listen to that accent all day long. ASH, my man, PUT A RING ON IT .

Here you realize a sad fact. When in episode V Luke said to R2 "stay with the ship", R2-D2 ignored him. Because in episode III... his master Anakin also said him "stay with the ship", and obeyed him, but his master... never came back.
Notice when Anakin is crying he doesn't have the yellow eyes like he had a few minutes before. He is going back and forth between light and dark at this point.
Well that's the interesting thing...Anakin wasn't (yet) the most powerful, but he had by far the greatest potential. He was indeed the chosen one, but seemly nobody understood how. He was actually supposed to be the anchor between dark side and light, but without being in any of them. That was the ballance he should have brought. He could never reach his full potential as Jedi, neither as Sith. But to be there and not to fall into the dark, you have to have an insane mind control and discipline and a mentor who would know that. Perhaps the only moment when he was there, was when he defeated Doku, a thing Obi Wan couldn't and Yoda couldn't do it as categorical as Anakin did. He won, using both coolness and anger, but he didn't want to kill, however he screwed up listening to Palpatine. Instances about this thing are present in Ahshoka.
haha. I think it happens to all of us. It's like The Purple Rose of Cairo. We're hoping either the movie will magically change or we can change it through sheer will
Throughout the millennia, your spiritual brothers and sisters have thought, "Maybe _this_ time, the Greeks and the Trojans will make a peace that will last...maybe _this_ time, Arthur's kingdom will not be sundered in his lifetime...maybe _this_ time, Hamlet will evade the dastardly plot and become King..." and so forth, and so on, and on, and on. It's why the literary genre of alternate history has exploded in popularity in recent decades, I happen to believe. When people no longer see why they have to accept results they don't like in myth and fiction, they try to rewrite history itself. (Fair's fair, after all - if rulers can do it all the time, so can simple folk!) What kind of comprehensible world could we have, though, if it were possible in real life, everyone striving to impose their own ideals throughout all of time? And it's equally worrying when base and ignoble acts are covered up, just as much as when noble and admirable ones are. Ironically enough, the young directors of Hollywood were coming out with tales deep and dark, masterfully told, for about ten years before the first *Star Wars* movie trounced them all and brought back what someone called "the tyranny of the happy ending", where the audience need not devote any serious thought to the events that transpire on screen. Of course, pure entertainment has a place, but a people who pride themselves on their freedoms need to have things for the brain to chew on like a mental steak thick with tendons. (Interesting it is, that the word "worry" is a synonym for chewing.) I'm afraid there is no real point to this digression - but perhaps I've given you a few things to chew on. 🤓
You called it, Hannah. Padmé's death was indeed a self-fulfilling prophecy caused by Anakin himself. That's what's so heartbreaking about it. He let his love turn into fear that turned him to the dark side, and that's what killed Padmé. So tragic, through and through.
Trivia: “Blue on Blue” is a military term that refers to fratricide. The final duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan with their blue sabers represents fratricide, which literally translates as the killing of one’s brother.
@@KD-cd2ckThat seems like a weak excuse honestly. But I think blue vs blue was the right choice. Since Anakin’s light vs dark battle in his conscience was still going on at that point. Then in Episode 4 when he has the red lightsaber and says: Now I am the Master, it hits harder.
@@KD-cd2ckNo.. not really. It’s also cause like logically, why would Anakin go out of his way to get a red saber right after he’s ‘turned’? (When he has more important stuff to do etc)
i like how they share the ear buds. its almost like seeing the workings of the left and right of the human brain, sometimes agreeing, often times bantering back and forth lol
ROGUE ONE is absolutely the film you MUST watch. It explains how the plans for the Death Star would end up in Luke's hands, via R2-D2. Rogue One is the first Disney Star Wars film, but it was filmed in George Lucas style, because Garreth Edwards, the executive producer and i think the head director, loves the original six Star Wars films. As a child, in the 1980s, i heard the Rogue One story. Seeing it come to life on the silver screen was a dream come true. And, there are a couple major surprises, i won't say when it happens except to say the ones im thinking of are not in the first half of the film. They may not be a surprise to you, we'll just have to see. P.S. Yeah, Ash's hair does kind of resemble Anakin's in this film.
False. Master Windu jumped away from the continuous electrical attack because it was killing him. Fact: Electrical attacks do not push targets. If Windu died, he died because of the fall and ground impact. A George Lucas rumor is that Windu survived.
1:01:01 is the saddest moment in the entire Star Wars franchise, Padme clutching the Jappor pendant that Anakin had given her, when they first met on Tatooine. Thank you so much for watching this. This was exactly what Star Wars fans needed to see, someone loving this movie as they see it for the first time. Nothing Disney has done has “ruined” Star Wars. All the originals and prequels are still here, and are just as good as ever.
Legit in awe of Hanna’s understanding of the themes in the story. Her comparison of the dark side to a drug is very astute. It’s a power rush that warps your thinking until you’re not yourself anymore and she called it before we even saw what it did to Anakin
Once in a Forum-Text-Based RPG i played a Sith Character which also should break the grip of the dark side. It was like having the dark side twisting her perceptions, seeing betrayal und and manipulation in every word and gesture. She had like breakthroughs and failbacks, because the dark side, dont let you go just this easy. It took years and the help of a strong and wise Jedi-Master to loose outburst of hate and violence, and finding the reason why she turned to the dark side in the first place - just being unable to deal with a loss of loved one, and turning the pain into hate and revenge. Was even praised for great roleplaying. There is always a sacrifice required and a will at the limit. Vader hesitated so long before he stopped the emperor and it cost him his life. It's great that this film shoved the conflict with the "seeing the future" - problem. May it be timetravel or visions. In the end, you turn the things into the situation that you wanted to prevent. Whereas you could indeed assume Palpatine/Sidious put the vision in Anakins Dreams, why else should he know about it? But its a fantheory which can you make your own mind about. And its a ultimate demonstration when people think it would be a great think to do EVERYTHING for love, even destroy the world, or in this instance leaving the Galaxy in darkness. Like in Gladiator when Commodus strangled his father. "I would slaughter the whole world just to make you love me." It's the same mindset. It's not love anymore, these are delusions of grandeur and greed. And like Padme said: "I can't follow you anymore."
Ash is one of the best reactors....but Hannah might be THE best. They both get so emotionally invested but Hannah gets invested in characters on a level i've never seen as if she is living through the fictional experience herself.
That’s why she’s an actress. Throw her into a sitcom, rev her up & let her go. Like a board room with David Spade and Akaash Singh as her partners in a specific type of law firm. Mostly improv. How you get from point a to b in the script is your own talent.
Only after the prequels were made. And it's really not Luke or Anakin/Vader's story... it's the Skywalker's tale (Leia and Padme included). It's the story of their family. They are all the main characters.
@@TheRexrapper Somewhere I read that Lucas had the ideas for all the prequels storyline in his mind back when he made the original trilogy, but he didn't have that technology back then, so he decided to make the prequal story later in the future :)
Hannah is sooooo intuitive! You’re actually right about Sideous being the one who put the dreams in Anakins mind! I’ve never seen someone guess that just off the movies so kudos to you. Something a lot of reactors dont understand about Anakin’s descent is how the dark side works. It seems like he just went from 0 to 100 but because of the way the force works once he accepted the dark side even just a little it completely hijacks the force user and essentially takes over. It’s so powerful it’s difficult to put into words. And the more evil he committed the more powerful the compulsion of the dark side. Killing Windu was the first major trigger. Accepting his apprenticeship from Sideous and the title of sith pushed him further. Killing the younglings pretty much 100% solidified his descent into darkness
Alot of people don't know that Anakin studied recordings of how Obiwan beat Darth Maul. He practiced that flip over your opponent move. That is from the books. That is why Obiwan said don't try it. He knew what Anakin was going to do.. and it cost Anakin his legs and his other arm.
@@-BuddyGuy - How to tell us you haven't watched Ash for very long, without telling us you haven't watched Ash for very long... Ash is Ash. Deal with it.
The clones weren't "rats". They were engineered to follow orders. Palpatine was the leader of the Republic. They didn't have the free will to go against their orders.
And also I'm pretty sure Sidious was the one that manipulated the creation of the Clones. Someone had to put Order 66 into their training routine right?
@@mattschliemann9683 Indeed. I don't consider it a retcon... it makes perfect sense and would logically be a crucial part of Sidious master plan. Otherwise he would have had no way of dealing with all of the Jedi scattered all over the Republic... not to mention the clones loyalty would be to their Jedi commanders otherwise.
Dude, Christopher Lee has a bunch of cool facts like that. Like he was the only cast member of The Lord of the Rings to have actually met Tolkien. I believe he's also killed a man in battle during WWII. Peter Jackson was trying to direct him on the sound he wanted Lee to make when he was stabbed in Return of the King and Lee told him he knew the sound a dying man makes when stabbed first hand. The man lived a life.
Fun fact: Hayden Christensen (Anakin/Vader) and Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan) trained in fencing and fitness for two months to prepare for their final battle. As a result of their practice, the speed at which Kenobi and Vader engage the duel (in the completed movie) is the speed in which it was filmed, and was not digitally accelerated. 💜
Such dedication clearly shows that they respected the significance (and stature) of the conflict enough to give it all they had in them to give, like Pitt and Bana did the year before in *Troy,* recreating one of the most legendary climaxes in the whole of Western literature - and who is to say but that three thousand years hence, Kenobi and Skywalker may still be spoken of in the same breath as Achilles and Hector? 😎
The deleted scenes and original script show that Palpatine subtly manipulated Anakin into thinking something could be going on between Padme and Obi-wan, which would explain why Anakin was so furious to see them together on Mustafar to the point of actually choking Padme. These things should have made it to the final cut. They show just how deep and comprehensive Palpatine's corrupting influence was.
The Clone Wars did an excellent job of showing moments when the Order upset him and Palpatine groomed him to make his quick turn in the movie more justified.
It’s still sprinkled throughout the movie we see that as early as Anakin saying no to Obi-Wan helping them with their situation about the nightmare. Then again Anakin is suspicious and more possessive when he sees Obi-Wan in his nightmare about her
23:00 - you guys both nailed the nature of the Dark Side, Hannah especially. It always exacts a price, and the price is usually losing something you never knew you valued, but realise too late is everything.
Something that people don't really think about when Yoda is telling Anakin to LET GO - he's not telling Anakin to stop caring about people. Just to let go of the fear of losing them, because death is a natural part of life. Being afraid of it, or unleashing your hatred over it, will accomplish nothing and will only lead you to suffering.
Palpatine was right about Yoda's arrogance. The Jedi had already been corrupted in their ways which just made the Sith's work that much easier. They held their beloved and corrupted republic too close to their chest and even accepted a surprise trojan army, built underneath their noses, to become their backbone. The Jedi speak of what is natural, and there is nothing natural about a republic. They could not just let go. They had to become the galaxy police. Anakin did bring balance to the force, just not the kind of balance the arrogant Jedi were thinking of. In the end only one elder and one senior remained on each side, everything evened out.
In hindsight, Yoda recognized this too. It’s the same argument as teaching Abstinence Only vs Teaching Safe S**. You might as well tell the kids to stop breathing with Abstinence only, since it flies in the face of human biology, peer bonding, and their own hormones screaming at them to breed. Teaching the complete abstinence of emotion and fear led to the fall of the Jedi as much as anything else. It left young Jedi whom actually felt doubts, emotions, and fear unprepared and dangerously unstable when faced with natural human emotional reactions. Teaching young Jedi how to manage and overcome their emotions and fears safely and remain themselves when under stress and pressure is what the Jedi actually needed to do. Qui-Gon Jinn actually personified this perfectly. He meditated and centered himself in the middle of the fight, when all the other Jedi seem to just charge in as emotionally unstable as the Sith are. Watch Mace Windu before and during the Palpatine fight and tell me, does that look like an emotionally at peace and stable Jedi? Give Windu a Red Saber and he’d have fit right in.
I think about 90% of your Star Wars viewers have been waiting for this reaction.... and you made them wait 6 months for it lol. Bold. Best movie in the series imo. It's a brilliant movie, that blends old and new. Disney hasn't come close to this.
When George Lucas was interviewed, he said the underlying point many people missed was that Anakin DID fulfill the prophecy of destroying the Sith and bringing balance to the force. He did it at the end of Return of the Jedi when he threw Darth Sidious off the balcony.
Exactly. Before the events of this movie, there were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith. By the end, it was balanced at 2 vs 2. And by the end of Return of the Jedi, the Sith are destroyed (ignore Rise of Skywalker, that flaming piece of garbage)
Exactly. People talk about Luke like he did something, but he just whined about power converters, lost a hand, whined about not killing the Emperor and had to be his father to do everything and yeeted Palpatine down the shaft.
@@chessenthusiastthis is what I been saying! Everyone keeps talking bout RotJ like that's where the balance came. 1 Jedi (2 if you count Leia) versus 0 Sith isn't a balance. I think somewhere they said the chosen one was to bring balance to the force and bring peace or whatevs. Who knows if it even meant those two things happen at the same time. But also I think Yoda said something bout how the prophecy could be misinterpreted in the same scene.
In the novel, the Emperor actually uses Padme's life force to save the dying Anakin. So he does actually have the ability to save someone from death, he just uses it on Anakin himself by giving him Padme's life. Ironic.
It's the same in the script. I think it goes over people's head in film. Anakin felt her because Sidious was feeding him her life force. That's why there is no medical reason and she's still going on about good in him, because she's connected to him and can feel his love.
Just to help you out here.....General Grievous was a cyborg. He was originally a Kaleesh before a shuttle crash almost killed him and he was saved by adding the robot parts. He didn't steal anyone's heart. 😂😂
Correct. Grievous is sort of an early version of Vader: A living being w/a few organs left, surrounded by cyborg/machine parts. In-universe, the tech was still experimental when it was used to keep Grievous alive: it works but it's clunky - his frequent coughing. By contrast, Anakin doesn't cough inside Vader's suit; it merely makes the distinctive Vader breathing/SCUBA sound.
@@tranya327 The coughing is caused (according the microseries he was introduced in, anyway) by Mace Windu crushing his chest with the Force just before he escaped Coruscant while kidnapping Palpatine.
Hannah nailed it 100%. the dark side is like drugs. The more you use the dark side, the more depressed you get which leads to more pain, and pain fuels the dark side creating a vicious cycle that leaves the user addicted and alters their personality and way of thinking entirely. Btw your guys reaction was everything I thought it’d be, top tier stuff guys. Rogue One is great. Also, I don’t care what others say, The Obi Wan Kenobi series totally slaps and it takes place after this movie. You two would love both of those, especially the Obi Wan show for reasons I don’t want to spoil.
bro the obi wan series is terrible bad. As everything that disney has created (except rogue) is not just bad it destroys the predecessors ideas and narratives.
@@DarthPepis there definitely is dumb stuff in it, but there is also awesome stuff in it that these two would love and the dumb stuff I doubt would bother them. Saying it’s “terrible” is absurd. The Acolyte was terrible. Boba Fett was terrible. Obi Wan was solid and just needed some tweaking, or just some precise cuts.
@@Etticos. i'd have to politely disagree. Ash holds Obiwan in such high regard. Prequel Obiwan "the Negotiator" Kenobi is a legend. The series throttles that admiration: He's a hardened combat veteran General who get owned by a child?
Ur right Ash. I remember a lot of original fans hated on Hayden's acting. And it makes me so mad everytime someone says that. Bc I don't think it's the acting, but the character itself Anakin Skywalker that they didn't like. But now im glad that Hayden gets the recogniction he deserves for his great role that has impacted a lot of people as Anakin Skywalker.
🙄 George Lucas writes incredibly bad dialogue, and as a director he can’t lead his actors out of the mess he’s created. That has produced some low quality moments in Star Wars films even from some pretty talented actors. But even after Lucas is given the blame he deserves, Hayden Christensen still earned every bit of the criticism he received and continues to receive for his uneven performance as Anakin.
@@markhamstra1083 100%, dude. While I appreciate the world Lucas created, his dialogue writing in the prequels is crap and he didn't direct them well. Empire and Return were better off with different directors. And Hayden's acting in this still makes my skin crawl. I'll admit though, my friend showed me his scenes in that Asohka show and he improved very much. If he was that good in these movies, it would have been so much better.
Its really just the love story doesn't ring so true between Padme and Anakin. They are great actors with the rest of the cast, just doesn't work that well in the romance scenes. It might be the age you see them at; all were designed for a young audience and not really older adults.
@@ShawNshawN It’s not just the love story dialogue that doesn’t work. For example, Lucas managed to make Samuel Jackson look like a second-rate, wooden actor at multiple points, and the contrast in believability between Ewan McGregor’s delivery and Hayden Christensen’s in their scenes together is striking.
Fun fact: Ian Mcdiarmid who played Chancellor Palpatine (Darth Sidious) also played Emperor Palpatine in the sequel films when he was younger. He just happened to age perfectly to reprise his role in the prequels as Sheev Palpatine, the ultimate deceiver.
General Grievous was NOT a robot. He was a living being who, due to illness or injury, became a cyborg. A living being using robotic parts to stay alive. In Episode 4: A New Hope, old Obi-Wan Kenobi told Luke that a young Jedi named Darth Vader killed your father. This was both a lie and the truth.
Another fun fact is the reason General Grievous coughs in episode 3 is because during the Clone Wars he fought against Mace Windu. Mace is trained in the light side and the dark side but has controlled his feelings enough to only embrace dark side if he has no other choice. So when he fought Grievous he used a forbidden force move (to the Jedi) which was force crush and he damaged Grievous' heart which is why he coughs all movie long. Also when Mace confronts Palpatine he actually did beat him in lightsaber combat. Some ppl think Palpatine allowed Mace to win knowing Anakin was going to come help but Mace's secret force power (like Anakin's is seeing a bit into future) is called Shatterpoint and it allows him to automatically see his opponents biggest flaw/weakness and expose it. Which is why he destroyed Jango Fett in seconds in last movie. This ability only works though in a 1v1 situation.
Interesting! I always thought he was a robot and was very confused for years wondering why a robot was coughing and wheezing like he had emphysema or something hehe.
lmao no.As far as I know grievous was sliced in multiple pieces and then his organs were transferred into a body of a machine and his brain got rewired to only killing and adapting to jedi fight techniques. He wasn't ill,he is only coughing because mace windu crushed his lungs.
Episode 3 is without a doubt my favorite Star Wars movie. It has the best combination of writing and eye candy. And the whole last act just grabs you by the heart and holds you hostage. Hayden got such a negative response from the "fans" for so long, and he was so damn good in these. I felt so bad for him. In recent years, though, people have accepted that they were too harsh, and he's become more accepting of the role. He even showed up in an episode of Ahsoka (which, by the way, almost had me in tears just because of his presence) to get closure for his role.
Every reaction I watch, people talking about Anakin getting his legs cut off, not realising that he also lost his left arm, loosing all of his natural limbs. And whats amazing, if you slow down the footage, you can see that Kenobi actually cuts all three limbs in an blink of an eye.
I know this is way late, and they will never see this - but it's important to realise that Palpatine is likely using the force to manipulate every single interaction he has. The scream when he started fighting was also a force ability, stunning the weaker jedi there - and despite the choreography, the novelisations directly say Palpatine was so fast that Anakin couldn't perceive his movements during his fight with Windu - and Windu being able to keep up is only due to a specific busted/hax ability he has that only works on the most powerful Dark Side users. Grevious didn't steal a heart, that's his own heart, one of the few parts of his original body that remains. His cough is literally his actual lungs that were damaged. Anakin's fall was as you both mentioned, but skipped over - it was entirely love in the beginning, then he committed increasingly unforgivable acts that cemented his dark path - after killing Windu he felt trapped, then he killed Jedi and it was so much worse, then the kids appeared and it was too late to make any other decision but to run full speed in the hope that he can at least save Padme and salvage something from the hole he's dug himself into - there was no coming back, each step only made it worse, and when Padme finally died all that remained was a burning self-hatred that drove him for the next 23 years. Hannnah mentions the affair - in the original cut Palpatine made Anakin believe they were having an affair - it was a part of that whole storyline, just after a meeting where Obi-wan headed off to confront Grevious and Anakin was already unbalanced, Palpatine told him that Obiwan's has become "influenced" by a certain female senator and his mind was fogged - acting as if he didn't know exactly who and what he was implying - this is followed by Anakin seeing Obiwan holding Padme as she dies during childbirth instead of himself, before finally telling Anakin that Padme is hiding something in another deleted scene (a bunch of Senators confront Palpatine about his new powers and Anakin is present) - again, Palpatine acts like he doesn't know exactly what he is implying and stirring up between Obiwan and Anakin. I believe there is another scene where Anakin directly seeks advice from Palpatine about his fears that Padme is having an affair - but I can't remember details of this and by this stage you are likely better off just watching a full summary video on here anyway.
@@TheJerbol Well, Sophocles was no slouch either, when it came to stories of this type; perhaps his response would have been a favorable one (once he comprehended the whole "science" thing, of course). 🤨
You two have made me fall in love with the prequels all over again. You’ve elevated this movie by a million. You two did not let me down with this one. Nothing but love to the two of you🙏🏼
So essentially Padme would have been alive if Anakin let go of his fear of losing her, that fear allowed him to be manipulated and drawn to the thought of saving her no matter what it takes. It started with his mom, so he was actually too old to be trained because he had already learned what attachment was!..This trilogy was a masterpiece in my opinion!!
"You were my brother, Anakin... I loved you!" Always breaks my heart, every time. In all fairness, the originals didn't have the technology nor (I think) the foresight that the prequels had the luxury of. The saga was supposed to end with "Return of the Jedi", but everybody wanted MORE Star Wars. It gave George Lucas the opportunity to dive deeper into the story. I've come to really appreciate the sequels, especially after watching Dave Filoni's "Clone Wars" and "Rebels". They fleshed out Anakin's character even more.
“You were a brother to me Anakin” pretty much sums up Obi Wans failure as a master. Anakin didn’t need a brother, he needed a father. Qui Gonn was the father figure Anakin needed, which is why his fight vs Maul in episode 1 is called “duel of the fates”
Obi Wan was only 16 years older than Anakin, he wasn't emotionally equipped to be Anakin's father figure. That's not a failing. He fought the Council to take Anakin on 5 seconds after becoming a Knight, even threatening to leave the Order if he had to, and the Order meant everything to him. Even Anakin acknowledged that he was grateful to have Obi Wan as a master in AotC. Obi Wan did the best he could to train Anakin as a Jedi. At the end of the day, Anakin made very poor, emotion based decisions that wrecked not only his life but everyone else's.
@@WinterLady87 I partly agree. But the problem with that is you hear all the time about when kids lose their parents that the oldest sibling steps up and assumes a lot of those responsibilities and that’s especially true with a 10+ year age gap. Obi was also fully aware of Anakins inner conflicts, he knew how close he was to his mother, saw how emotional he was with Padme in AOTC and they made clear in the clone wars he even knew that they were together. You could also see in episode 1 the differences in obi wans and qui gonna outlooks on the Jedi. Qui-Gon was more unorthodox in his approach, emphasizing a more intuitive and living connection to the Force. He placed great importance on listening to the will of the Force, even when it diverged from the Council's established doctrines and protocols. He was willing to take risks and challenge jedi traditions if he felt the force was guiding him in a different direction. In contrast, obi wan followed the councils way of being more rigid and dogmatic in their adherence to Jedi teachings and protocol. They preferred to operate within the established structures and hierarchies of the jedi, valuing consistency and order over individual intuition. The council viewed Qui-Gon's independent spirit and willingness to question their decisions as disruptive and potentially dangerous, but in the end he was vindicated by being the first jedi in over a thousand years to become one with the force after death
@chargerscharlie1 Fair points. From what I've read in both the novelization of The Phantom Menace and Shadow Hunter (an EU novel that takes place immediately before Phantom Menace, highly recommend the audiobook), Qui Gon wasn't seen as a threat so much as a maverick. He was on good terms with the Council and believed in the Jedi Order and Code, even if he bucked the current interpretation of it at times. Anakin would definitely have benefited from a closer father figure, which Obi Wan, as much as he tried, wasn't able to be for him, which of course Palpatine exploited. Just a minor point, Qui Gon wasn't the first Jedi in a thousand years to become one with the Force; that happened to all of the Jedi. He was the first to be able to manifest as a Force ghost.
@@8967Logan Yep, most people would gladly voluntarily give up their freedom for perceived safety and order. All a tyrant has to do to take over is start wars, create chaos, gain the people's trust, and then promise to fix everything if given unlimited power.

The Emperor (Sheev Palpatine / Darth Sidious), was played always by the same actor, Ian Mcdiarmid. He was quite younger in the OT of course, but with the make up had that countenance.
Ian said in an interview a couple years ago that he didn't even know he would be playing Palpatine and Sidious until he got on set, and George told him.

Palpatine lied to Vader saying that "in your anger you killed her" to make Anakin/Vader hate himself binding him deeper to the Dark Side, When infact Palpatine uses Force Leach on Padmé to use her life taking it from her body to keep Vader alive, this is the power that he promiced Anakin that could not be learned form a Jedi as it is a dark power that keeps someone from dieing by taking the life force from another person.
Sounds reasonable. But I like that George kept so much about Sheevy up for interpretation. That's the brilliance of it all. That's why people will never stop arguing about these movies. So only the Disney side of things will die, George's legacy is close to immortal.

Qui Gonn spirit taught Obi Wan to become a force ghost (at the end of the movie Yoda said to Obi that someone returned from the netherworld of the force). In all those years in solitude in Tatooine Obi Wan learnt it. That´s why he told Vader in episode IV: "if you strike me down, I´ll become more powerful that you can possibly imagine".
After Anakin turns to the dark side, his speech and mannerisms start to resemble that of Darth Vader in the suit. Pay close attention to how he uses his hands to add emphasis when he talks and the intonation of his voice changes to sound more elegant and menacing than when he used to be on the light side.
Part of the reason I like revenge of the sith and the empire strikes back so much is because the villains win. It’s a nice change of pace from “good always triumphs “
Someone smarter than me said that Anakin has never not called someone "Master" his whole life, a metaphorical slave 1.A slave to Watto, as a child 2.A slave to the Jedi order, who NEVER achieved the rank of "Master," denied even a mother's love 3.A slave to Palpatine 4.A slave to the suit (he dies without it) In one of the books, you find out that the nerve endings on his limbs are constantly grating against the metal, it itches, it's hot, he cant properly sweat b/c his sweat glands are burned off, it smells funny and plastic, the red goggles blur a little at the edges, he's on the edge of toppling over constantly, so he has to concentrate to walk "normal," and worst of all, he cant really sleep, with all this discomfort. Imagine suffering all this personal loss and discomfort and you're CONSTANTLY sleep deprived, irritable and UNABLE to fall asleep and get a break from it. The only real relief he got was by inflicting HIS pain on the people around him. The suit is the worst torment imaginable. In the end, Anakin was only set free by his son. And unlike most movies, here, the HERO (Luke) has to LOSE for the good side to win.
@@DevicCypher Here's a quote from my copy of Stover's book "Revenge of the Sith:" pg 279. 3rd Edition "....You can hear yourself breathing. It comes hard, and harsh, and it scrapes nerves already raw, but you cannot stop it. Raw nerves of your legs on metal limbs. Your arms. Your skin. Raw. You can never stop it. You cannot even slow it down. ...You open your scorched-pale eyes; optical sensors integrate light and shadow into a hideous simulacrum of the world around you. You don’t even have lungs anymore. ...And within your furnace heart, you burn in you own flame. This is how it feels to be Anakin Skywalker. Forever..."
29:29 - This is a big part of why Anakin fell. He was never fully embraced by the Jedi, always kept at an arm's distance, and their dogmatic approach to trauma meant he never resolved his issues. That's why the battle between Qui-Gon and Maul was called "Duel of the Fates" - had Qui-Gon won, Anakin would have had a mentor, a father figure, who would have shown him love instead of treating him like a burden.
@@harifederer Nah, Obi-wan was more of an older brother figure to Anakin. Not to mention that Obi-wan was young, inexperienced and just received the title of Jedi Knight when Anakin was assigned as his student) What he needed was a proper father-figure in Qui-Gon.
Some explanation for Obi Wans „I have the high ground“ line: Maybe you remember in episode 1, when Obi Wan was hanging down in the reactor shaft with Darth Maul standing above him. It is very similar to the situation Obi Wan and Anakin are in in their battle on Mustafar and Anakin tries the same move Obi used all those years ago to defeat Maul. Unfortunately for him, Obi Wan went through this duel time and time again to learn how Maul could‘ve defeated him and why the highground position is so advantageous. Basically Maul could‘ve done the same to him, as he did to Anakin in the end and Obi Wan knew it. As he was training Anakin he taught this to him too, so they both knew what position they were in and what Obi Wan would do, should Anakin try to jump up to him. Yet he did it anyways, blinded by the Dark Side, believing to be so powerful this move will work against all odds. But we see how this play out for him…
@@alexandretorres5087it‘s a universe where there are magical space wizards using something called the force to do all sorts of things. I wouldn‘t get too caught up in the realism of some scenes 😂
After be burned, Vader suffered a lung damage so serious. That´s why he needed the suit (with a ventilation equipment) to breath and live. Besides, on purpose, this equpment "worked" with rage, anger and all his suffering. That´s why I told you in Episode VI that after kill the Emperor, with this ventilation destroyed and without rage and anger... he couldn´t live.
Seeing Padme's life force drain in front of a crying Obi-Wan, while at the same time seeing the birth of Darth Vader with an amused Sidious was so significant. Symbolisms.
@JUST TRUST ASH: You need to realize that Hayden Christensen (Anakin) and Ewan McGregor (Obi) went through RIGOROUS training, sword fighting, fencing, endurance and agility and stuff as preparation for Episode 3 and their battle. The speed and choreography of their final battle is actually 100% real-time and original Hayden vs. Ewan, no stunt doubles, no artificial speed-up. 100% REAL. Just like Viggo Mortensen in LOTR #1 really deflected a REAL dagger with his real sword in his fight scene against the Uruk Hai commander. This really makes these actors stand out a lot. No comparison to all the clowns that just play action heros but where it is always stunt doubles and CGI.
I like how this episode explained why Anakin became what he became. It wasn't just the lust for power. It was one of the reasons too but Padmé was all he had. This is how a loving person can became a monster. Take from him what he loves or make him afraid that he will lose it and you have it. It became true what Yoda told him: "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate… leads to suffering.."
Anakin never learned true, selfless love as a Jedi. He was always rather possessive of Padme, and even after he learned Luke and then Leia were his kids, he was still obsessed with turning them to the dark side. It took Luke's sacrifice in front of him to make him understand selfless love, and in turn sacrifice his own life to save Luke.

The spectacle no, but Disney era have had some damn good lightsaber scenes. Rogue One, Last Jedi's throne room fight, The Acolyte episode 5, Clone Wars season 7 and (if games count) Jedi Survivor. All are fantastic.
@@tortoiseoflegends4466 bruh, throne room fight is probably the worst out of them all. Like it was choreographed by drunk monkey. Not gonna even comment on that steaming pile of horse shit Acolyte.
It’s not “Disney” it’s Lucasfilm. It just has a higher budget now. And Ahsoka V Maul, Obi Wan V Maul in Rebels, Luke V Kylo, and Acolyte E5 all clear the fights in this movie.
Lightsaber noises are probably my favorite sound effect in all of movies, and they are perfect in every single movie. Just wonderful. I think it's because, as a fantasy device that we can't compare to anything real, there's a lot of creative freedom available for the artists to make the noises correspond emotionally and thematically with the scenes they're in. I'm having a hard time explaining but if you watch the scenes you'll notice what I mean, they behave almost like part of the music sometimes.
People who say " don't watch these, only watch the originals " Is these really really hardcore Star Wars fans who are hating on something new and different. This is a absolut masterpiece
Dude, the only thing us hardcore star wars fans hate is the dogshit that disney has produced. I'm 25 and was raised on the originals first, then the prequels, we only hate the sequels.
Only dumb people say this. I prefer the Originals but I still think the Prequels are Great. But Sadly... there was this mess... it's called sequels... I wouldn't watch that haha. But really the Prequels really add a lot to the Universe!
Its so cold that Sidious told Anakin "We will have peace" But the literal motto of the Sith is "Peace is a lie, there is only passion". Highly recommend the audiobook Rule of 2 because Darth Bane is the one who started the cycle of 1 master and 1 apprentice to condense the balance of the side dark side into just two people.
One to hold the power, the other to aspire to it and eventually wrest it away...so that ultimately, over centuries, we have a being capable of such power, physical and mental, that the Galaxy will fall into its grasp like ripe fruit. Now _that's_ long-range planning. Correct? 😒 👨🎓
"Peace" is always the justification of fascists. They promise peace, stability, order, etc.; and they're usually not lying about those things, but people must always remind themselves to ask "at what cost?"
Hannah is very astute. Yes, it was the Emperor who was sending those dreams to Anakin. He was the apprentice who killed Darth Plagueis, his Master. And it was Darth Plagueis who accidentally caused the immaculate birth of Anakin, through his manipulation of the Force. And he continued to lie to Darth Vader even after this, and then Vader learned about Luke and began to plot his own revenge. And that's why, in the end, it was Luke who was able to get through to his father and save him from the Dark Side and the Emperor. He turned to evil to try and save someone he loved and found only suffering and hate. Then he turned back to the light to save his son and was able to die at peace finally.
Padme wearing the thing Anakin gave her when he was a child and then literally taking it to her grave with her at the end is just the cherry on top for me. It's the perfect metaphor that through it all, she never completely lost her faith in his goodness or her love for him.
It was a pretty messed up relationship. She knew he murdered lots of Sandpeople in that village that had nothing to do with Shmi. If I was considering a relationship with someone, them slaughtering children of any type would be a deal-breaker.
Except she might not have known much about the sand people, for all she knew they were all psychopathic monsters not just normal (if violent) people, since she'd only spent a short time on Tatooine after living for so long on Naboo.

They stupidly cut an important scene where he plants the idea that Obi Wan is trying to win over Padme romantically and push her away from Anikin, so Anikin starts looking for signs and misinterprets the situation. That's why he said to Obi Wan, "You turned her against me!"
Fun fact: It was very difficult to animate the fight between Obi-Wan and General Grievous due to Grievous's four arms and Kyle Rowling in a mo cap suit (not to mention him only having two arms obviously) so they made sure Obi-Wan took care of Grievous's hands quickly. (In case you're wondering how I know this, it's something I remember reading in my visual guide book that goes through the first 6 movies) 💙 💚 💙 💚
This movie is such an emotional ride. Which is why the ending of Episode VI director's cut is so great. We see Darth Vader "die" and Anakin finally redeem himself, becoming one with the force.
"This ain't love anymore." Dead on the money, Hannah. Anakin's defining weakness was not that he loved, because that's a strength. It's that he feared to lose love. Love that you're terrified of losing can easily warp to obsession.

🤯🤯🤯
He made his choice.
I’ve seen this film a billion times and every time I’m like “okay maybe this time Anakin won’t turn “ 😂😂
haha. I think it happens to all of us. It's like The Purple Rose of Cairo. We're hoping either the movie will magically change or we can change it through sheer will
Same with Titanic, maybe it wont sink next time
Even Padme turned against him.
(Interesting it is, that the word "worry" is a synonym for chewing.)
I'm afraid there is no real point to this digression - but perhaps I've given you a few things to chew on. 🤓

You called it, Hannah. Padmé's death was indeed a self-fulfilling prophecy caused by Anakin himself. That's what's so heartbreaking about it. He let his love turn into fear that turned him to the dark side, and that's what killed Padmé. So tragic, through and through.

This makes you realize Luke Skywalker was never the main character. Star Wars is Darth Vaders story...
Once Lucas decided to make the prequels that became apparent.
then disney destroyed the character arc in the sequals
Only after the prequels were made. And it's really not Luke or Anakin/Vader's story... it's the Skywalker's tale (Leia and Padme included). It's the story of their family. They are all the main characters.

Actually, Luke also does a great flip up to the ledge on the Death Star in ep. 6

Hayden swordsmanship still shows. I saw him in a crusader movie with Nicolas Cage and he was very impressive.
none of what they do in those fights is fencing lmao
And the original version of the fight was a lot more brutal. I wish they had kept that version of it
Such dedication clearly shows that they respected the significance (and stature) of the conflict enough to give it all they had in them to give, like Pitt and Bana did the year before in *Troy,* recreating one of the most legendary climaxes in the whole of Western literature - and who is to say but that three thousand years hence, Kenobi and Skywalker may still be spoken of in the same breath as Achilles and Hector? 😎
IIRC, they were even slowed down
The deleted scenes and original script show that Palpatine subtly manipulated Anakin into thinking something could be going on between Padme and Obi-wan, which would explain why Anakin was so furious to see them together on Mustafar to the point of actually choking Padme. These things should have made it to the final cut. They show just how deep and comprehensive Palpatine's corrupting influence was.
It's in the novelization of ROTS.
That absolutely should have been there.
The Clone Wars did an excellent job of showing moments when the Order upset him and Palpatine groomed him to make his quick turn in the movie more justified.
You don't need that to still tell the story that's just extra info that helps explain the story easier
It’s still sprinkled throughout the movie we see that as early as Anakin saying no to Obi-Wan helping them with their situation about the nightmare. Then again Anakin is suspicious and more possessive when he sees Obi-Wan in his nightmare about her
Obi-Wan saying "You were my brother Anakin, I loved you", just breaks my heart every time 😭
23:00 - you guys both nailed the nature of the Dark Side, Hannah especially.
Right lesson, wrong way of trying to teach it.
@@HobGunganyeah as a person that lives for centuries you should understand that those types of lessons differentiate from species to species.
Yoda was right but those are not the right choice of words in that situation.
Naah!
-Disney
if that’s true then the prophecy left out a lot of shit
Ironic.

Flat out diabolical, truly. Palpatine makes a capital 21st-century icon of Evil, and a figure to range alongside Milton's Satan. 👿
I never knew that! But I suspected it. Thanks for this info.
He looks like a shark attack. 😂😂
It's the same in the script. I think it goes over people's head in film. Anakin felt her because Sidious was feeding him her life force. That's why there is no medical reason and she's still going on about good in him, because she's connected to him and can feel his love.
“That was a bit too much for me”

Just to help you out here.....General Grievous was a cyborg. He was originally a Kaleesh before a shuttle crash almost killed him and he was saved by adding the robot parts. He didn't steal anyone's heart. 😂😂
I like to think he stole the heart of some audience at least 😀
@Unknown-ek1ox it's crazy how many people call him a droid or robot, as a kid I knew he was some sort of cyborg based on his eyes.
@@Unknown-ek1ox😂
I believe George Lucas also described it like drugs so she’s more right than she knows.
You didn't include how the dark side also transforms the users body and Sidious looking the way he does isn't because of his fight against mace windu
bro the obi wan series is terrible bad.
The line Ash is talking about is
Luke: I'll not leave you here. I've got to save you.
Anakin: You already have, Luke. You already have.😢❤
Ur right Ash.
Anakin is my roman empire
*due to an accident purposely caused by dooku making it look like the jedi did it
Another fun fact is the reason General Grievous coughs in episode 3 is because during the Clone Wars he fought against Mace Windu.
Can't remember if it's canon or legends, but one of his stories gives him good reason to hate the jedi
lmao no.As far as I know grievous was sliced in multiple pieces and then his organs were transferred into a body of a machine and his brain got rewired to only killing and adapting to jedi fight techniques.
"you have failed yourself"
Hannah a real Sith.
Every reaction I watch, people talking about Anakin getting his legs cut off, not realising that he also lost his left arm, loosing all of his natural limbs. And whats amazing, if you slow down the footage, you can see that Kenobi actually cuts all three limbs in an blink of an eye.
The irony in this timeless story is that in the end, Anikan did eventually bring balance to the force when he killed the emperor.
Yup, until Disney retconned it.
@Shawn-st2lx Well, yeah, there is that
Absolutely correct, the Jedi act like the prophecy is beholden to their values, ideals and timetable of what balance is.
That is so stupid....HE CAUSED THE JEDI TO LOSE CONTROL
@@Shawn-st2lx No, no. We don't talk about that...
"He's been sculpted by the gods and he's been written by Shakespeare himself" truly describes Anakin to perfection.

Ash is so damn hilarious man, the "michael Jackson getting his nuts grabbed" and "Mace out the Windu" were incredible

Actually one of the ots had this ridiculous looking fake eye guy who looked really bad, in the next movie it was ian and they went back and replaced the other guy with ian

Some explanation for Obi Wans „I have the high ground“ line:
Maybe you remember in episode 1, when Obi Wan was hanging down in the reactor shaft with Darth Maul standing above him.
But we see how this play out for him…
Yeah. Obi-Wan was warning Anakin not to do it because he *invented* that move and knows how to counter it.

Seeing Padme's life force drain in front of a crying Obi-Wan, while at the same time seeing the birth of Darth Vader with an amused Sidious was so significant. Symbolisms.
It isn't just symbolism. Sidious is quite literally stealing Padme's life force to keep Vader alive, it actually says that in the script for the film.

Only dumb people say this. I prefer the Originals but I still think the Prequels are Great. But Sadly... there was this mess... it's called sequels... I wouldn't watch that haha. But really the Prequels really add a lot to the Universe!
Prequel "new and different." 😆 okay.
@@LumpyAdams so your think this is not different, lol 🤣
The whole darth bane trilogy is amazing. Also the audiobook of revenge of the sith is a masterstroke❤
If I may correct, it's "only passion."
@@ZweimannImperium Thanks for correcting haha
Nah I don't think Darth Plagueis causing Anakin's birth is canon
@@cassiuswest why not?
This is probably the most authentical and funny reaction I have ever seen on TH-cam lol
You guys are by far the best reactions on YT, I absolutely love the energy you put into your reaction videos, you have earned a sub, keep up the good work guys
“Hello there.”
One of my favourite lines in cinema!
When Padme was buried, you can see the huge belly. They tried to cheat the Emperor, looking like she had died pregnant.
Well, I think that they did, in a way, because the coffin was open on top during the procession… but she had only just given birth, and women can still look pregnant for a good while after, for a couple of weeks or so.
I have always assumed that they just didn’t say that she gave birth, and omitted that she did from any official statement.
Good catch.
I've never seen such a pure reaction to Star Wars before. Most people have to wait to have kids and see it through their eyes to get a reaction like that. And you both made me feel like being a kid agian watching it for the first time. Thank you!
46:37 My boy Ash was so angry he shoved Hannah. 😂
Hahahaha I caught that too!
They both were like NAHH FUC DIS GUY!
🤣😆🤣😆
I've only been subscribed to this channel for about a week now or so, but I've already blown through hrs and hrs of both of your channels. You two have such a beautiful relationship and literally make the bad days better. Im so grateful for finding you two on here. Future patron here for sure. You guys should really watch Patch Adams with Robin Williams absolutely incredible movie that doesn't get near the credit it deserves, incredibly funny and also heartbreaking as well with such an uplifting message i guarantee it'll be high on your list of favorites afterwards
I cant stop laughing when Hannah keep on questioning General Grevious health
38:01 Ash’s face and sudden disbelief… we’ve all been there. Long (not) live the younglings.
And then you got "Vader", Leia and Luke with the same birthday.
"This ain't love anymore." Dead on the money, Hannah. Anakin's defining weakness was not that he loved, because that's a strength. It's that he feared to lose love. Love that you're terrified of losing can easily warp to obsession.
