One cool bit of trivia: the stunt woman who rode the white horse in place of Liv Tyler/Arwen when she was being chased by the dark riders fell in love with the horse but couldn't afford to buy it when the animals used in the film were being auctioned after it was finished, so Viggo Mortensen/Aragorn bought the horse for her as a gift.
Plus, Viggo Mortensen bought Brego. And he bought one of the horses trained to play Hidalgo. In the latter movie, he was accomplished enough in riding to not needing a stuntman.

Ok so Hobbit ages! For frame of reference, hobbits come of age at 33, and their average lifespan is about 100 years. The oldest known Hobbit up to this point died at 133. So 111 isn't unheard of. What makes his case strange is that he barely aged since he got the ring, which was about 60 years ago. The hobbits like to joke that he is "well preserved." As for these four being kids... bear in mind that 33 is the age of adulthood for hobbits. Frodo is 50 when he leaves the shire. Sam is 38. Merry is 36, and Pippin is the baby at 29. So he's basically a teenager. The rest are young adults. Fun fact, though! In the books, there are 17 years between Bilbo's 111th birthday and when Frodo leaves the shire. That didn't happen in the movie because it would have absolutely wrecked the pacing. But Bilbo and Frodo have the same birthday (September 22nd), and Bilbo chose his 111th birthday to disappear because it was also Frodo's 33rd birthday, meaning that he was old enough to inherit Bag End. Otherwise, the Sackville-Bagginses would have tried to claim his property. Again. Sorry for the wall of text. I'm a HUGE nerd, and these books were my childhood.

@@justtrustash Aww Thanks! It helps that I'm actually in the process of rereading the books right now, so it's all pretty fresh in my mind. But also, when I was growing up, my dad was blind, but he LOVED books. He would always sit in his chair and listen to "books on tape." That Was audiobook technology back then: Dad would order "books" from The Library For the Blind, and they'd send him boxes of cassette tapes with recordings of narrators reading books aloud. And each book was X number of tapes. When he was done, he'd mail them back and they'd send him a new one. Now, you just open up Amazon and just download an audiobook whenever. And whenever my family went on long car rides, we would listen to audiobooks instead of music (not that we didn't like music. We all love music too, but more than half an hour in the car and we'd start to bicker over it). And "The Hobbit," and "The Lord of the Rings" were our favorites. In still listen to audiobooks on my commute to and from work.

@@justtrustash in The Hobbit, I loved to imagine myself as Bilbo, coming up with clever solutions to problems, being brave enough to go on an adventure and find courage even when you're scared. And loyalty and compassion. Those are powerful lessons I took from that book when I was a kid. As for Lord of the Rings... there is a character who I saw myself in. But she doesn't get introduced until The Two Towers. I don't want to give anything away, but keep an eye out for Eowyn. She definitely taught me some things when I was a kid. I will talk more on that when you get to the second and third movies if you'd like. Here's another little bit of book backstory for you though. The Hobbit was written by Tolkien to be a bedtime story for his kids. So the writing style is very different. It's very whimsical, and the characters solve problems differently. He also addresses the reader directly pretty frequently, like you would when you are trying to keep a kid engaged. Lord of the Rings was written afterward for a more adult audience.

Seriously, this guy picks up on more stuff than most people did. Like the ring would influence Gandalf more because he's more ambitious and powerful, while it would barely have influence over Frodo. And also that since the ring wants to be found, the presence of the Nazgul would make the ring want Frodo to put it on.
@@justtrustash I loved that you two picked up on how the Ring can adjust its size. Not a lot of people notice that. The Ring exhibits a malevolent but limited form of sentience and it is very powerful. It can dominate the will of other beings (its least accessible power), make a mortal wielder invisible unless someone could perceive the non-physical world, augment the abilities of whoever has it and extend their lifespan or give them extra abilities like great hearing or vision. It could project a false appearance of the wielder to others, like make an innocent Hobbit look scary. However not everyone has access to these abilities. Only Sauron or someone with equal power and experience could use it to it's full potential and since it contains Sauron's power, other beings would be corrupted. That is the power the movie shows us the most and you will see it later in the movies as well, how Frodo's demeanour changes the more time he spends with the Ring around his neck.
@Samuel Astic Not really. More get it wrong and misunderstand it, that is the majority. The minority actually pick up on the subtlety of the small things in the movie, not nearly as many as those who completely don’t understand or don’t pay attention.
My favorite thing about Boromir in this movie is that even though he seems a little sinister around the ring. He always is looking after Merry and Pippin. He trains them, he looks after them on the mountain. Jumps with them on the stairs in Moria. And when hes dying, the first thing he says is "they took the little ones." Really shows that hes a hero inside and wants to protect the weak
And with the flashback scenes in the extended editions, it's pretty clear that Boromir was in fact a great man and a hopeful and brave warrior. But he had some arrogance about him, and he was ultimately driven by a desire to save his homeland - and these things, the ring was able to ruthlessly exploit and drive him to do things he would have never done by himself. If the Fellowship had remained as one for much longer, I fear that most likely, even the more steadfast Aragorn would have ultimately fallen under its influence. The resolve of anybody would be weathered away like cliffs by water, with enough time. Frodo was probably the person best suited for this task thanks to his inherent desire for peace and lack of great ambitions (and Hobbits are naturally resistant to the influence) - but even he fell under its shadow in the end. TL;DR: Boromir was not a bad guy, he just failed to stand up against the darkness and evil of the ring.
@@brigidtheirish Hm, I don't know about that. He has a good heart and really wants to do the right thing - but even the brief time he carries the ring really takes a toll on him. I doubt that he could withstand it as long as Frodo did being the ringbearer himself - but he was certainly strong enough to not fall under its influence as a companion to Frodo. He wasn't fated to carry the ring, but to carry Frodo. :D
"It shrinks to the size of whoever has it." Yes and no. It grows and shrinks at will. That's partly why Frodo kept it on a chain around his neck. Because that's how it "abandons" its bearers. It makes itself fit them... until It decides "f***" this guy!" And makes itself too big so it falls off.
Fun fact: They built, created, wrote, and shot all three films at the same time, all the way through 2003. The project started around 1995 (when I was born, no less). 8 years for 3 films. Full material lasts over 100 hours, which Peter himself cut down, with his editors, etc., to around 11.5 hours, then the 'short' version of the three films was around 7.5 hours. Indeed, it was so complex and long-lasting, that they ended up with 3 or 4 shooting crews for films 2 and 3, at the same time (Peter being team 1, then team 2, then team 3). Andy himself (the actor of Gollum) would sometimes direct some fight scenes, etc. by 2002 or so, for film 3. Peter pretty much slept for 3-5 hours a day for 5 years to create these films. He wrote, directed, crafted, sometimes even acted, along with working on design, tech, and otherwise. He also did that barefoot since he doesn't wear shoes, and would always have a cup of tea in his hand -- English-style (indeed, his grandparents came from Wales, if I can recall). He would never spill his tea, despite running up and down hills, on and off choppers, and up and down stairs. That man is a genius, along with the other 10+ key figures on these films.

Tolkien even promised him the role of Gandalf, should a film be made. He even auditioned for Gandalf, but Jackson already had McIllen up for the role. Jackson begged him to reconsider and explained how, because of his age, Gandalf would be too taxing and thought he was perfect for Saruman.
And I like this statement a lot becouse after the movies so many ppl would normaly say that Frodo is weak and pathetic and useless. No, he is not. He was not in the books, and in the movies is also not like this if you know where to look and what was the main mistake in the adaptation of this role.
@@TallisKeeton The movie didn't even make the mistake lol, people just don't appreciate that he had to carry a ring that made literally everyone evil and he lasted for longer than anyone would have apart from Bilbo - and Bilbo had it when Sauron was weakest. Frodo carried it at the new height of Sauron's power.
@@mrrd4444 IKR :) Most watchers just focus on these film moments when Frodo looks like loosing against the Ring and from that comes their view about him. But they should focus also upon that there are many time in the film between such scenes when he is normal yet and beside the last scene in Orodruin all those "loosing" scenes are realy the scene when he won! :) But the main mistake of the filmmakers with adapting Frodo for film was that these scenes of "loosing" seemed to be too much, and the film never accented that in everyone of that scene he also won - up until Orodruin.
@@TallisKeeton Honestly, even acknowledging that Frodo couldn't have gotten far alone, the fact that he got as far as he did AT ALL - alone or with help - while carrying that Ring is proof of how much of a badawesome he was.
When you comment that the effects look better than a lot of today's CGI. it's worth noting that a lot of shots that would be done purely with CGI today were actually done with very large scale models(places like Minas Tirith, Isengard etc), that were nicknamed "bigatures". For me one of the most successful pieces of design was the Nazgul, they were BLOODY TERRIFYING in these movies! Their costume design is so simple, but so effective. And the actors they got to wear the suits did a great job bringing them to life.
I've heard people compare the ring to a drug addiction, but I've never heard anyone compare it to a toxic relationship. It's not a bad comparison, since the ring has a mind and will of its own, so it's like a character in and of itself. So a relationship may be a more accurate comparison than a drug addiction in that way.
Ive always seen it as a Drug, Since one with it is always happy, and take it away (like drugs) makes you go insane for it (withdrawls)..at least thats how i looked at it.
You guys are first reactors ive seen who fully understood that scene where the hobbits first encounter the rider, Frodo is indeed compelled to put the ring on in the presence of the riders. Well done, you’ve made a subscriber out of me with that insight.

Fun fact: The 'scream' of the Ringwraiths was a created by Peter Jackson's wife (20:20), and co-writer, Fran, when she was sick. She is a singer, herself, with a great voice. When she was sick, her scream came out very strange and powerful, indeed. She recorded that in the studio, and they used it for the scream of the Ringwraiths. Very haunting.
I believe he says right after it shatters, "That was my favorite ax!" Dwarves are master craftsmen, and Gimli is a great leader with massive wealth, so he has a backup or two. ;)

He searched in the pile and on the ground about and found not a few that were undamaged and longer in the shaft than such arrows as the Orcs were accustomed to use. He looked at them closely."
I appreciate that you both noticed and admired the sheer volume of WORK that went into making these films. You should definitely take time to watch the behind the scenes stuff (so many special features on the DVDs). It will blow your mind to learn how much care went into every detail.
Agreed, There's actually a playlist of the Appendices right here on youtube. I have them running in the background while doing housework or drawing all the time. Highly recommend checking those out.
My fav "making of" stories is that the waterfalls of Rivendell were made from spilling salt to be cheaper and they made a special rubber armour for Elendil's actor in order for him to be thrown on the rock safely in the first battle scene with Sauron and they made 200 different headpieces for Rohan horses from leather to make sure that it would be seen as ancient craft not smt from a factory, and they made armour for king Theoden with sunblaze emblem done on the inside of his brestplate becouse its for the king - and the actor - to make him better believe in his role or smt like this becouse the horse and the sun was both the emblems of Rohan. And the throne of king Theoden was sculpted from one big piece of oak.
I love Merrin and Pippin. Like imagine you and your best friend both have the munchies so you decided to raid the local farmer's field when you literally run into two of your smoking buddies from the Shrire and then they tell you they're hiking to meet Gandalf, who you know has some top quality hash stashed on his person at all times so you agree to go with them and somehow end up on a thousand-mile hike to destroy a piece of evil jewellry in a volcano.
...ya'll know it's closer to tobacco, right? like haha funny joke... just also, that's a skewed perspective... also, in the books it's entirely different, which I found mind-blowing.
It's a common misconception that the Nazgul can't go in water from what you see in the movie. When the hobbits cross the river on Bucklebury Ferry, the Nazgul don't go in the river because it's too deep. When they are following Arwen, they pause at the river because it's the border of the elvish lands and they fear Elrond and the other powerful Elves there.
That’s really interesting. I always figured it was the Horses that hated water so much bc of the way they rear back and stomp around whenever they’re near it, but the wraiths were able to still force them into the river
@@SNWWRNNG But in the book, they don't hesitate like the movie, they just go. Frodo rides Asfaloth alone (Glorfindel's Lightning McQueen horse) and crosses the Ford during the chase. The Ringwraiths, on the other side but still going for him, laugh at Frodo after he smack talks (He is a g), some are galloping across the river and are just almost to Frodo before being swept away by the river (combined Elrond + Gandalf magical effort). The other Ringwraiths that stayed on their side, their horses go wild and jump into the rushing river to join the rest.
“Even the smallest person can change the course of the future”. I appreciate your appreciation for Frodo’s strength. He gets forgotten a lot because he’s not the most entertaining of them all. But, he really is a strong strong person.
J. R. R. Tolkien, who wrote the original books, was a professor of linguistics and folklore at Oxford, and he wrote bits and pieces of myths, fairy tales, and religions from the entire Indo-European tradition, from Ireland to India and Persia, into one huge novel series. And needless to say every sword-and-sorcery series copies Tolkien.

Tolkien used to meet with his best friend and discuss content over a pipe and a pint. They used to encourage each other and read each others writings. His friend was none other than C.S.Lewis, he was writing The Chronicles of Narnia books at the same time, another novel series with mythical creatures, swords n fairy tales.
Tolkien started writing his first drafts of what would later become his 'legendarium' around the year 1917 (the first drafts of the Fall of Gondolin, and tale of Turambar seem to date from those years), the first book he published was The Hobbit in 1937 and Lotr was it's sequel. And funnily it is said that Tolkien actually read some of the Conan stories by Howard, there is a reference to it, though I don't know how much truth was to it (at the very least he received copies of tales with 'Shadows in the Moonlight' in it).
Oh, they cheered Sam when he took his "farthest" step from home! That for me deserves a like. Also, the comment about going for a walk and appreciate trees and such would have made Tolkien proud.
Hobbits become adults on their 33rd birthday. Frodo in the book was 51, I believe. In the movie, Elijah Wood was 19, so he would be considered a child in hobbit years. As I think a hobbits teenage years begin in their twenties. Sam and Frodo had a respectful relationship between Master and gardener and a much more significant age difference in the book. (Sam is 39 in the books) Still, I preferred the movies Sam and Frodo relationship as it established a loyal friendship that is always heartwarming no matter how much I watch it. The real child in the story is Pippin (he's 29).
Pippin was 29 during the events of the story, the easily youngest of the Fellowship (but, hilariously, played by the oldest actor of the four playing hobbits!). Merry was 37, Sam was 39, and Frodo was 51 (but had not aged at all in the 17 years since he'd received the Ring from Bilbo). Boromir is 40, Aragorn/Strider is 87, Gimli is 140, Legolas is 2931, and Gandalf is older than the planet. Another fun fact: Frodo, Merry, and Pippin are all related to each other! You might recall Pippin's chatter in the common room of the inn in Bree, where he said how Frodo was related to him on both sides of the family. Merry and Pippin are first cousins, too: Pippin's paternal aunt is Merry's mother.
18:00 - In the book, Frodo was 33 years old when the ring came into his possession. He had the ring for a further 17 years before Gandalf returned to the Shire. So Frodo was actually in his 50's by the time he set off from the Shire. Just as with Bilbo, the ring delayed the ageing process for Frodo so he still looked like a young man.
The One Ring gives it's wearer power according to their nature. Hobbits aren't powerful, so all it really does for them is make them "invisible". If Saruman or Elrond had the ring, it would make them very powerful.
The ring has power which may well be limitless in potentiality but is hidden just like the markings and can only be accessed depending on the power and ambition of the user. But the will and nature of Sauron is in the ring and anything anyone would do would ultimately achieve manifest the spirit of the Dark Lord. The invisibility is more the ring's signature than a power; it signifies that the personality of the wearer will be nullified by the the ring and will eventually disappear. Its like a sick joke. Notice how Sauron wears the ring and remains visible
@@simeonteitelbaum3673 Tom Bombadil also remained visible and not only did the Ring have no effect on him but it seemed to have no effect on Frodo either, as long as he was in Tom's presence. I wish we could have seen that but those scenes would not fit in the movie at all.
Main power and purpose of the Ring is to dominate minds and wills of other creatures, it was what it was designed for, naturally that control and domination was not limited only to controlling all other rings of power and their wearers but others as well (we can call it officially 'power of Command' as this is a term once used in book), then it enhances all powers and abilities boosting strength of the wearer (so Sauron wearing the One Ring is stronger than ever before) and all others who would manage to fully use the capabilities of the Ring would be enhanced as well depending on their original 'power level' so to speak, invisibility is part of the powers contained within, though it's more a power involved with drawing person into the Unseen, the wraith-world, the second layer of reality, it's a power derived from Sauron who is in origina an immortal spirit (so naturally he would have powers like that), invisibility may be simply connected to the spiritual realm of rendering physical body invisible by drawing half into that realm, that is why the world changes when the wearer of the Ring is invisible, into that misty world. Other powers of the Ring, like understanding and insight, understanding of tongues may be directly related to mental powers of Sauron, in the end the One Ring contains larger part of Sauron's innate strength.

Also regarding Sauron. Being a divine being, his form was depended on maintaining his power. The loss of the One Ring, into which he poured over half his power, is what deprived him of his ability to maintain his form. It is also what gives the ring a sort of sentience, as a part of Sauron lives on in it. He is the same sort of being as Gandalf and Saruman, a Maia, that could be considered an angel, who was corrupted by a higher being called Morgoth before Middle Earth was built. He takes the shape of an flaming Eye because, without the ring, he did not have the power to assume a physical form.
This was a lot of fun to watch, Thanks guys. There's a lot done with practical effects and "miniatures" and matte paintings in this film supplemented with CGI. That's why the cgi looks better than straight up green screening everything nowadays - the cgi didn't have to do all the lifting itself.
Fun fact this movie was mostly practical. The white city Minas Tirith, the Dark tower of Gol Dobar, the widzard’s tower Orthanc the mines dug beneath it, the mines of Moria, where all miniatures and the sets built where made look like they were aged and lived in. The scenery was all New Zealand country side filmed on the ground or from helicopters or some from cameras that were rigged on to cranes and I’ve been told there were a number rigged to ballon’s, tethered of course, but what could you do before drones were popular

He also had kept the ring safe for 17 years, before Gandalf came back with the news about it. He's very, very lucky he kept it in a chest hidden away (and not on his person), would've been corrupted and gone by the time Gandalf returned.
@@Rackhark Long story short, he suspected the ring long before Frodo got it...he'd been contemplating the ring for ~70 years (Bilbo held it for 60), and he'd seen Bilbo's change in behavior, as well as his lack of aging. He wasn't gone for the entire 17 years though, he came back occasionally over the first 8 years, but then stopped for 9. The gaps were, in part, because he needed to track down Ilsidur's notes on the Ring (which weren't easy to get ahold of) but also because he wanted to see the effects the ring had on Frodo. The 9 year gap, was, in part, to verify the anti-aging. Another reason for the inaction was, what was he gonna do, take it? And then what? Easily succumb to it's poison and cover the world in darkness? To give you an idea, Gandalf and Sauron are the same race of 'angelic' type being called Maiar. They serve the 'Gods' of Tolkien's Universe (Valar), Sauron just happened to serve Morgoth (Sauron's only a Lieutenant lol), the big baddie in Tolkien's Universe. But yeah, Gandalf fully powered up w/ the One Ring, wasn't something he wanted to risk. Edit: Probably would've been more appropriate for me to say Trilogy sized story, shortened to long explanation lol.
@@Rackhark in addition to all the facts Brian said, it takes a fairly long time to traverse Middle Earth even on horseback. Going from the Shire to Gondor and back again would be nearly a years journey.
Fun Fact: Sir Christopher Lee (Saruman) had his own Heavy Metal band, and released an album, 'Charlemagne: By Blood and The Cross' when he was 94. He also did a duet with the former singer of DragonForce called 'The Magic of the Wizard's Dream.' I highly recommend giving both a listen. Edit: not only was Sir Christopher the only member of the LotR cast to have met Tolkien, he also had his personal blessing to play Gandalf if a film was made. Lee stated that he thought Professor Tolkien would have been very pleased with Sir Ian McKellen's performance. Edit 2: Gimli was played by the inimitable John Rhys-Davies.

In this movie you can see her surprise. She did not think they could cross. The shape of the horses was Gandolf's nice touch in the flood. Once The Nine lost their dark steeds in this flood, they went back to Mordor to remount on Nazgul beasts, then divided to rule various armies, or speed mustering of orcs and other dark legions.
Bilbo made it to such an old age BECAUSE of the ring. he aged so much in the years after he left because he no longer had it so it was no longer keeping him young and lively. Even Gandalf commented at the beginning on how Bilbo had hardly aged a day since he last saw him because it wasn't usual. No Frodo and them are not kids. The movie doesn't explain it, but it's been years since Bilbo left the Shire before Gandalf returned. Bilbo was exceptionally resistant to the ring. He had it for YEARS before it started to change him. It's the same for Frodo. Something in their bloodline I guess. :)
for the Wizard's Duel: The Wizards are a few thousand years old in their physical form. They are actually divine spirits called Maia (Maiar is the plural). They were sent to Middle-Earth to aid the Free People (Dwarves, Hobbits, Men and Elves) in the fight against Sauron. They are limited in their power (compared to their original divine power) and cannot fight Sauron head on, matching him power for power. Saruman, however, is bad. He turned evil some odd years ago for a few reasons. 1 of them being jealous of Gandalf. Another is his desire for power. The wizard's staves (Staff) is not what holds their power but it acts like a conduit, allowing them to really focus their power for a spell and be more accurate while in their physical form.
@@marcuszaja6589 oh I know. They weren't allowed to fight each other. The Valar put limits on the Istari or Wizards if you will. In those forms, they cant match him power for power. They cant fight head on. They are there to counsel and rally the people of Middle Earth but sometimes, they do fight.
At 8:45 you guys are talking about the attention to detail in the sets - that scene with Gandalf and Bilbo speaking with a table in between them is a forced perspective shot where it LOOKS like Gandalf and Bilbo are looking at each other but actually Gandalf is closer to the camera making him look large. But here's the thing - it looks like one table between them but they had to make the table in TWO parts, one closer and one farther away to create the illusion. If you look carefully, you can see where the table is actually split. And all that just for that one shot!
Sam is such a hero, and especially how he started so ordinary, the end makes me cry like a baby no matter how many times i watch to see his loyalty and courage.

There are only a few beings in middle earth that could actually "wield" the ring and Gandalf is at the top of that list under Sauron. He could wield it but he would also just become a new "dark lord". Isildur, Golem, Bilbo, and Frodo posses the ring but they can't use it. Putting it on just drags them into the "unseen" world. That's why when he puts it on during the fight on weathertop he sees the Nazghul's true form. They're invisible for the same reason. So the ring isn't supposed to turn people invisible it's just a side effect. Sauron exists in the seen world and the unseen world at the same time so when he wears it he doesn't disappear.It's never made clear exactly what the ring does for Sauron except it allows him to dominate the minds of people wearing the other rings of power. Thats not all that it does but anything besides that is speculation.
The constant influx of people discovering this trilogy for the first time makes me, the guy that as a teenager watched all three movies three times in the theater feel really old 😋
When I saw Hobbiton revealed the first time in the movie theater, I started to cry from sheer joy at the perfection of it all. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. I basically cried throughout the whole thing.

The lord of the rings, the biggest advertisement for New Zealand there ever was. Seriously, though, I grew up reading the books, and I was so scared when I learned they were making them into movies because it was such an undertaking, there was no way they could do it justice. I was proven wrong. This trilogy is one of my all time favorite. It's a masterpiece, through and through. The extended editions have more than 6 hours each of behind the scenes and making ofs and I love watching those as much as I love the movies themselves

On 14:51 Gandalf says "It's cold". The regular fire has no effect on the One Ring, so it won't get hot. Also, a fun fact: Gandalf, Saruman, Balrog, and Sauron are relatives.
I love when ppl watch these for the first time. Because if you know your middle earth history its amusing and nostalgic at the same time. I can't go "he looks so young" or "his bones! hes too old for this" anymore. This "innocence" and "wonder" of the first time watching is amazing.
Me and my husband went to New Zealand for our honeymoon and went to Hobbiton, they let you touch and even go inside the little homes and everything there (except Bilbo's house) it was an amazing tour and you later went to the pup there, the Green Dragon, and you could order ale/beer and snacks it was awesome! It really was just as beautiful as it look's on screen with beautiful rolling green fields, the cool thing is though that the family still owns the land they built the town on and it's the family that hosts the tours and receives the profit from it. They rebuilt the town again with more sturdy and stable materials when they filmed The Hobbit later. Just a side note, the reason the ring did not effect Frodo as much as it would Gandalf or really anyone else is that when the rings of power were made Hobbits were not even in existence yet in the world, they came later, since they were not part of the creation to control they have more resistance to it than the other races, it does eventually effect them yes but it takes longer to influence.

Not strictly true, elves in older Norse texts vary from descriptions that overlap with dwarves to human-sized creature that act in opposition to giants. It is true that he cemented the depiction of elves as tall, pale, ethereal beings in the modern mind, though.

You guys are adorable XD And yeah, you're right, Frodo doesn't get tempted by the Ring has to do with all the stuff Bilbo narrated at the beginning about hobbits - how their greatest loves are food, drink and green things. Most men, elves, dwarves or wizards would take weeks or months to become completely corrupted by the Ring - probably less if they were using it regularly like Bilbo was. It took Bilbo DECADES of use to reach the point where he got a little cranky at the idea of leaving it behind. So it's kinda impressive, when you think about it. Plus Bilbo is actually more corruptable than most hobbits because of his unusual desire for adventure and freedom. He has a reputation among other hobbits as a troublemaker. So Frodo is a great Ringbearer because he has no real desire for anything the Ring could offer him, but he also cares deeply about others and the world, so can't be scared off of his mission either. Also Frodo (in the books) is like... in his 50s when he leaves Hobbiton, not a teen. Hobbits age more slowly than humans, but not by much - it's probably fair to say that he's supposed to be the equivalent of a human in probably his 30s. Though I think the casting aged him down considerably in these movies :P

Basically, he'd go into makeup the night before filming, and they'd put the prosthetics on him while he got his night's sleep in the makeup chair.

When Bilbo gave up the Ring of Power, he became the second of only THREE PEOPLE in all of history to willingly give up a Great Ring of Power. The first was Cirdan the Shipwright, ruler of the Gray Havens, who gave his Great Ring to Gandalf who he said would have greater need of it. The second was Bilbo. And the third would be Samwise, giving the Ring back to Frodo. Also, the ominous chanting that is the Nazgul theme, is singing in Aduniac, the ancient tongue of Men in LOTR. They are singing about terror and despair and death coming with the Riders.

One cool bit of trivia: the stunt woman who rode the white horse in place of Liv Tyler/Arwen when she was being chased by the dark riders fell in love with the horse but couldn't afford to buy it when the animals used in the film were being auctioned after it was finished, so Viggo Mortensen/Aragorn bought the horse for her as a gift.

For frame of reference, hobbits come of age at 33, and their average lifespan is about 100 years. The oldest known Hobbit up to this point died at 133. So 111 isn't unheard of. What makes his case strange is that he barely aged since he got the ring, which was about 60 years ago. The hobbits like to joke that he is "well preserved."
As for these four being kids... bear in mind that 33 is the age of adulthood for hobbits. Frodo is 50 when he leaves the shire. Sam is 38. Merry is 36, and Pippin is the baby at 29. So he's basically a teenager. The rest are young adults.
Fun fact, though! In the books, there are 17 years between Bilbo's 111th birthday and when Frodo leaves the shire. That didn't happen in the movie because it would have absolutely wrecked the pacing. But Bilbo and Frodo have the same birthday (September 22nd), and Bilbo chose his 111th birthday to disappear because it was also Frodo's 33rd birthday, meaning that he was old enough to inherit Bag End. Otherwise, the Sackville-Bagginses would have tried to claim his property. Again.

@@justtrustash Aww Thanks! It helps that I'm actually in the process of rereading the books right now, so it's all pretty fresh in my mind. But also, when I was growing up, my dad was blind, but he LOVED books. He would always sit in his chair and listen to "books on tape." That Was audiobook technology back then: Dad would order "books" from The Library For the Blind, and they'd send him boxes of cassette tapes with recordings of narrators reading books aloud. And each book was X number of tapes. When he was done, he'd mail them back and they'd send him a new one. Now, you just open up Amazon and just download an audiobook whenever. And whenever my family went on long car rides, we would listen to audiobooks instead of music (not that we didn't like music. We all love music too, but more than half an hour in the car and we'd start to bicker over it). And "The Hobbit," and "The Lord of the Rings" were our favorites. In still listen to audiobooks on my commute to and from work.

@@justtrustash in The Hobbit, I loved to imagine myself as Bilbo, coming up with clever solutions to problems, being brave enough to go on an adventure and find courage even when you're scared. And loyalty and compassion. Those are powerful lessons I took from that book when I was a kid.
As for Lord of the Rings... there is a character who I saw myself in. But she doesn't get introduced until The Two Towers. I don't want to give anything away, but keep an eye out for Eowyn. She definitely taught me some things when I was a kid. I will talk more on that when you get to the second and third movies if you'd like.
Here's another little bit of book backstory for you though. The Hobbit was written by Tolkien to be a bedtime story for his kids. So the writing style is very different. It's very whimsical, and the characters solve problems differently. He also addresses the reader directly pretty frequently, like you would when you are trying to keep a kid engaged. Lord of the Rings was written afterward for a more adult audience.

Seriously, this guy picks up on more stuff than most people did. Like the ring would influence Gandalf more because he's more ambitious and powerful, while it would barely have influence over Frodo. And also that since the ring wants to be found, the presence of the Nazgul would make the ring want Frodo to put it on.

@@justtrustash I loved that you two picked up on how the Ring can adjust its size. Not a lot of people notice that. The Ring exhibits a malevolent but limited form of sentience and it is very powerful. It can dominate the will of other beings (its least accessible power), make a mortal wielder invisible unless someone could perceive the non-physical world, augment the abilities of whoever has it and extend their lifespan or give them extra abilities like great hearing or vision. It could project a false appearance of the wielder to others, like make an innocent Hobbit look scary. However not everyone has access to these abilities. Only Sauron or someone with equal power and experience could use it to it's full potential and since it contains Sauron's power, other beings would be corrupted. That is the power the movie shows us the most and you will see it later in the movies as well, how Frodo's demeanour changes the more time he spends with the Ring around his neck.

My favorite thing about Boromir in this movie is that even though he seems a little sinister around the ring. He always is looking after Merry and Pippin. He trains them, he looks after them on the mountain. Jumps with them on the stairs in Moria. And when hes dying, the first thing he says is "they took the little ones." Really shows that hes a hero inside and wants to protect the weak
And with the flashback scenes in the extended editions, it's pretty clear that Boromir was in fact a great man and a hopeful and brave warrior.
But he had some arrogance about him, and he was ultimately driven by a desire to save his homeland - and these things, the ring was able to ruthlessly exploit and drive him to do things he would have never done by himself.
If the Fellowship had remained as one for much longer, I fear that most likely, even the more steadfast Aragorn would have ultimately fallen under its influence. The resolve of anybody would be weathered away like cliffs by water, with enough time.
Frodo was probably the person best suited for this task thanks to his inherent desire for peace and lack of great ambitions (and Hobbits are naturally resistant to the influence) - but even he fell under its shadow in the end.
TL;DR: Boromir was not a bad guy, he just failed to stand up against the darkness and evil of the ring.

@@brigidtheirish Hm, I don't know about that. He has a good heart and really wants to do the right thing - but even the brief time he carries the ring really takes a toll on him. I doubt that he could withstand it as long as Frodo did being the ringbearer himself - but he was certainly strong enough to not fall under its influence as a companion to Frodo.
He wasn't fated to carry the ring, but to carry Frodo. :D

Yes and no. It grows and shrinks at will. That's partly why Frodo kept it on a chain around his neck. Because that's how it "abandons" its bearers. It makes itself fit them... until It decides "f***" this guy!" And makes itself too big so it falls off.

Fun fact: They built, created, wrote, and shot all three films at the same time, all the way through 2003. The project started around 1995 (when I was born, no less). 8 years for 3 films. Full material lasts over 100 hours, which Peter himself cut down, with his editors, etc., to around 11.5 hours, then the 'short' version of the three films was around 7.5 hours. Indeed, it was so complex and long-lasting, that they ended up with 3 or 4 shooting crews for films 2 and 3, at the same time (Peter being team 1, then team 2, then team 3). Andy himself (the actor of Gollum) would sometimes direct some fight scenes, etc. by 2002 or so, for film 3. Peter pretty much slept for 3-5 hours a day for 5 years to create these films. He wrote, directed, crafted, sometimes even acted, along with working on design, tech, and otherwise. He also did that barefoot since he doesn't wear shoes, and would always have a cup of tea in his hand -- English-style (indeed, his grandparents came from Wales, if I can recall). He would never spill his tea, despite running up and down hills, on and off choppers, and up and down stairs. That man is a genius, along with the other 10+ key figures on these films.
Fun fact: the actor who played Saromon, Christopher Lee, was the only actor who personally know the author of the books, J.J.R. Tolkien.

Tolkien even promised him the role of Gandalf, should a film be made. He even auditioned for Gandalf, but Jackson already had McIllen up for the role. Jackson begged him to reconsider and explained how, because of his age, Gandalf would be too taxing and thought he was perfect for Saruman.

@@TallisKeeton The movie didn't even make the mistake lol, people just don't appreciate that he had to carry a ring that made literally everyone evil and he lasted for longer than anyone would have apart from Bilbo - and Bilbo had it when Sauron was weakest. Frodo carried it at the new height of Sauron's power.
@@mrrd4444 IKR :) Most watchers just focus on these film moments when Frodo looks like loosing against the Ring and from that comes their view about him. But they should focus also upon that there are many time in the film between such scenes when he is normal yet and beside the last scene in Orodruin all those "loosing" scenes are realy the scene when he won! :) But the main mistake of the filmmakers with adapting Frodo for film was that these scenes of "loosing" seemed to be too much, and the film never accented that in everyone of that scene he also won - up until Orodruin.

When you comment that the effects look better than a lot of today's CGI. it's worth noting that a lot of shots that would be done purely with CGI today were actually done with very large scale models(places like Minas Tirith, Isengard etc), that were nicknamed "bigatures".
For me one of the most successful pieces of design was the Nazgul, they were BLOODY TERRIFYING in these movies! Their costume design is so simple, but so effective. And the actors they got to wear the suits did a great job bringing them to life.

I've heard people compare the ring to a drug addiction, but I've never heard anyone compare it to a toxic relationship. It's not a bad comparison, since the ring has a mind and will of its own, so it's like a character in and of itself. So a relationship may be a more accurate comparison than a drug addiction in that way.

Fun fact: The 'scream' of the Ringwraiths was a created by Peter Jackson's wife (20:20), and co-writer, Fran, when she was sick. She is a singer, herself, with a great voice. When she was sick, her scream came out very strange and powerful, indeed. She recorded that in the studio, and they used it for the scream of the Ringwraiths. Very haunting.

My fav "making of" stories is that the waterfalls of Rivendell were made from spilling salt to be cheaper and they made a special rubber armour for Elendil's actor in order for him to be thrown on the rock safely in the first battle scene with Sauron and they made 200 different headpieces for Rohan horses from leather to make sure that it would be seen as ancient craft not smt from a factory, and they made armour for king Theoden with sunblaze emblem done on the inside of his brestplate becouse its for the king - and the actor - to make him better believe in his role or smt like this becouse the horse and the sun was both the emblems of Rohan. And the throne of king Theoden was sculpted from one big piece of oak.
I love Merrin and Pippin. Like imagine you and your best friend both have the munchies so you decided to raid the local farmer's field when you literally run into two of your smoking buddies from the Shrire and then they tell you they're hiking to meet Gandalf, who you know has some top quality hash stashed on his person at all times so you agree to go with them and somehow end up on a thousand-mile hike to destroy a piece of evil jewellry in a volcano.

It's a common misconception that the Nazgul can't go in water from what you see in the movie. When the hobbits cross the river on Bucklebury Ferry, the Nazgul don't go in the river because it's too deep. When they are following Arwen, they pause at the river because it's the border of the elvish lands and they fear Elrond and the other powerful Elves there.
That’s really interesting. I always figured it was the Horses that hated water so much bc of the way they rear back and stomp around whenever they’re near it, but the wraiths were able to still force them into the river
The Nazgul are reluctant to cross water. It's Tolkien using a trope from mythology, of evil beings not crossing rivers.

Frodo rides Asfaloth alone (Glorfindel's Lightning McQueen horse) and crosses the Ford during the chase. The Ringwraiths, on the other side but still going for him, laugh at Frodo after he smack talks (He is a g), some are galloping across the river and are just almost to Frodo before being swept away by the river (combined Elrond + Gandalf magical effort). The other Ringwraiths that stayed on their side, their horses go wild and jump into the rushing river to join the rest.

The movie from 80's is tremendous and a far better movie to me
Tolkien used to meet with his best friend and discuss content over a pipe and a pint. They used to encourage each other and read each others writings. His friend was none other than C.S.Lewis, he was writing The Chronicles of Narnia books at the same time, another novel series with mythical creatures, swords n fairy tales.
Tolkien started writing his first drafts of what would later become his 'legendarium' around the year 1917 (the first drafts of the Fall of Gondolin, and tale of Turambar seem to date from those years), the first book he published was The Hobbit in 1937 and Lotr was it's sequel. And funnily it is said that Tolkien actually read some of the Conan stories by Howard, there is a reference to it, though I don't know how much truth was to it (at the very least he received copies of tales with 'Shadows in the Moonlight' in it).
Oh, they cheered Sam when he took his "farthest" step from home! That for me deserves a like. Also, the comment about going for a walk and appreciate trees and such would have made Tolkien proud.

Hobbits become adults on their 33rd birthday. Frodo in the book was 51, I believe. In the movie, Elijah Wood was 19, so he would be considered a child in hobbit years. As I think a hobbits teenage years begin in their twenties. Sam and Frodo had a respectful relationship between Master and gardener and a much more significant age difference in the book. (Sam is 39 in the books) Still, I preferred the movies Sam and Frodo relationship as it established a loyal friendship that is always heartwarming no matter how much I watch it. The real child in the story is Pippin (he's 29).
Pippin was 29 during the events of the story, the easily youngest of the Fellowship (but, hilariously, played by the oldest actor of the four playing hobbits!). Merry was 37, Sam was 39, and Frodo was 51 (but had not aged at all in the 17 years since he'd received the Ring from Bilbo). Boromir is 40, Aragorn/Strider is 87, Gimli is 140, Legolas is 2931, and Gandalf is older than the planet.
Another fun fact: Frodo, Merry, and Pippin are all related to each other! You might recall Pippin's chatter in the common room of the inn in Bree, where he said how Frodo was related to him on both sides of the family. Merry and Pippin are first cousins, too: Pippin's paternal aunt is Merry's mother.

18:00 - In the book, Frodo was 33 years old when the ring came into his possession. He had the ring for a further 17 years before Gandalf returned to the Shire.
So Frodo was actually in his 50's by the time he set off from the Shire. Just as with Bilbo, the ring delayed the ageing process for Frodo so he still looked like a young man.
The One Ring gives it's wearer power according to their nature. Hobbits aren't powerful, so all it really does for them is make them "invisible". If Saruman or Elrond had the ring, it would make them very powerful.
The ring has power which may well be limitless in potentiality but is hidden just like the markings and can only be accessed depending on the power and ambition of the user. But the will and nature of Sauron is in the ring and anything anyone would do would ultimately achieve manifest the spirit of the Dark Lord. The invisibility is more the ring's signature than a power; it signifies that the personality of the wearer will be nullified by the the ring and will eventually disappear. Its like a sick joke. Notice how Sauron wears the ring and remains visible
@@simeonteitelbaum3673 Tom Bombadil also remained visible and not only did the Ring have no effect on him but it seemed to have no effect on Frodo either, as long as he was in Tom's presence. I wish we could have seen that but those scenes would not fit in the movie at all.
Main power and purpose of the Ring is to dominate minds and wills of other creatures, it was what it was designed for, naturally that control and domination was not limited only to controlling all other rings of power and their wearers but others as well (we can call it officially 'power of Command' as this is a term once used in book), then it enhances all powers and abilities boosting strength of the wearer (so Sauron wearing the One Ring is stronger than ever before) and all others who would manage to fully use the capabilities of the Ring would be enhanced as well depending on their original 'power level' so to speak, invisibility is part of the powers contained within, though it's more a power involved with drawing person into the Unseen, the wraith-world, the second layer of reality, it's a power derived from Sauron who is in origina an immortal spirit (so naturally he would have powers like that), invisibility may be simply connected to the spiritual realm of rendering physical body invisible by drawing half into that realm, that is why the world changes when the wearer of the Ring is invisible, into that misty world. Other powers of the Ring, like understanding and insight, understanding of tongues may be directly related to mental powers of Sauron, in the end the One Ring contains larger part of Sauron's innate strength.

Also regarding Sauron. Being a divine being, his form was depended on maintaining his power. The loss of the One Ring, into which he poured over half his power, is what deprived him of his ability to maintain his form. It is also what gives the ring a sort of sentience, as a part of Sauron lives on in it. He is the same sort of being as Gandalf and Saruman, a Maia, that could be considered an angel, who was corrupted by a higher being called Morgoth before Middle Earth was built. He takes the shape of an flaming Eye because, without the ring, he did not have the power to assume a physical form.

There's a lot done with practical effects and "miniatures" and matte paintings in this film supplemented with CGI. That's why the cgi looks better than straight up green screening everything nowadays - the cgi didn't have to do all the lifting itself.

Fun fact this movie was mostly practical. The white city Minas Tirith, the Dark tower of Gol Dobar, the widzard’s tower Orthanc the mines dug beneath it, the mines of Moria, where all miniatures and the sets built where made look like they were aged and lived in. The scenery was all New Zealand country side filmed on the ground or from helicopters or some from cameras that were rigged on to cranes and I’ve been told there were a number rigged to ballon’s, tethered of course, but what could you do before drones were popular

@@Rackhark Long story short, he suspected the ring long before Frodo got it...he'd been contemplating the ring for ~70 years (Bilbo held it for 60), and he'd seen Bilbo's change in behavior, as well as his lack of aging. He wasn't gone for the entire 17 years though, he came back occasionally over the first 8 years, but then stopped for 9. The gaps were, in part, because he needed to track down Ilsidur's notes on the Ring (which weren't easy to get ahold of) but also because he wanted to see the effects the ring had on Frodo. The 9 year gap, was, in part, to verify the anti-aging.
Another reason for the inaction was, what was he gonna do, take it? And then what? Easily succumb to it's poison and cover the world in darkness? To give you an idea, Gandalf and Sauron are the same race of 'angelic' type being called Maiar. They serve the 'Gods' of Tolkien's Universe (Valar), Sauron just happened to serve Morgoth (Sauron's only a Lieutenant lol), the big baddie in Tolkien's Universe. But yeah, Gandalf fully powered up w/ the One Ring, wasn't something he wanted to risk.
Edit: Probably would've been more appropriate for me to say Trilogy sized story, shortened to long explanation lol.
@@Rackhark in addition to all the facts Brian said, it takes a fairly long time to traverse Middle Earth even on horseback. Going from the Shire to Gondor and back again would be nearly a years journey.

That move that Arwen throws was more done by her father and her people. She just, let's say, summoned it.
"She's done way more than any of the geezers..." Meanwhile, everyone who's read the books knows it was Elrond and Gandalf that sent the flood.
In this movie you can see her surprise. She did not think they could cross. The shape of the horses was Gandolf's nice touch in the flood. Once The Nine lost their dark steeds in this flood, they went back to Mordor to remount on Nazgul beasts, then divided to rule various armies, or speed mustering of orcs and other dark legions.
And that in the books she wasn't even the one who transported frodo, was another high elf who name I forgot how to write.

Bilbo made it to such an old age BECAUSE of the ring. he aged so much in the years after he left because he no longer had it so it was no longer keeping him young and lively. Even Gandalf commented at the beginning on how Bilbo had hardly aged a day since he last saw him because it wasn't usual.
No Frodo and them are not kids. The movie doesn't explain it, but it's been years since Bilbo left the Shire before Gandalf returned. Bilbo was exceptionally resistant to the ring. He had it for YEARS before it started to change him. It's the same for Frodo. Something in their bloodline I guess. :)
for the Wizard's Duel: The Wizards are a few thousand years old in their physical form. They are actually divine spirits called Maia (Maiar is the plural). They were sent to Middle-Earth to aid the Free People (Dwarves, Hobbits, Men and Elves) in the fight against Sauron. They are limited in their power (compared to their original divine power) and cannot fight Sauron head on, matching him power for power. Saruman, however, is bad. He turned evil some odd years ago for a few reasons. 1 of them being jealous of Gandalf. Another is his desire for power. The wizard's staves (Staff) is not what holds their power but it acts like a conduit, allowing them to really focus their power for a spell and be more accurate while in their physical form.
Don't forget that Gandalf and Sauron are of equal rank. They are both Maiar!
@@marcuszaja6589 oh I know. They weren't allowed to fight each other. The Valar put limits on the Istari or Wizards if you will. In those forms, they cant match him power for power. They cant fight head on. They are there to counsel and rally the people of Middle Earth but sometimes, they do fight.
At 8:45 you guys are talking about the attention to detail in the sets - that scene with Gandalf and Bilbo speaking with a table in between them is a forced perspective shot where it LOOKS like Gandalf and Bilbo are looking at each other but actually Gandalf is closer to the camera making him look large. But here's the thing - it looks like one table between them but they had to make the table in TWO parts, one closer and one farther away to create the illusion. If you look carefully, you can see where the table is actually split. And all that just for that one shot!

16:20 keep in mind that Gandalf isn't a human, hes actually the same race as Sauron. So is Saruman for that matter. There are only a few beings in middle earth that could actually "wield" the ring and Gandalf is at the top of that list under Sauron. He could wield it but he would also just become a new "dark lord".
Isildur, Golem, Bilbo, and Frodo posses the ring but they can't use it. Putting it on just drags them into the "unseen" world. That's why when he puts it on during the fight on weathertop he sees the Nazghul's true form. They're invisible for the same reason. So the ring isn't supposed to turn people invisible it's just a side effect.
Sauron exists in the seen world and the unseen world at the same time so when he wears it he doesn't disappear.It's never made clear exactly what the ring does for Sauron except it allows him to dominate the minds of people wearing the other rings of power. Thats not all that it does but anything besides that is speculation.
The constant influx of people discovering this trilogy for the first time makes me, the guy that as a teenager watched all three movies three times in the theater feel really old 😋
When I saw Hobbiton revealed the first time in the movie theater, I started to cry from sheer joy at the perfection of it all. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. I basically cried throughout the whole thing.

The lord of the rings, the biggest advertisement for New Zealand there ever was. Seriously, though, I grew up reading the books, and I was so scared when I learned they were making them into movies because it was such an undertaking, there was no way they could do it justice.
I was proven wrong. This trilogy is one of my all time favorite. It's a masterpiece, through and through.
The extended editions have more than 6 hours each of behind the scenes and making ofs and I love watching those as much as I love the movies themselves

On 14:51 Gandalf says "It's cold". The regular fire has no effect on the One Ring, so it won't get hot. Also, a fun fact: Gandalf, Saruman, Balrog, and Sauron are relatives.
I love when ppl watch these for the first time. Because if you know your middle earth history its amusing and nostalgic at the same time. I can't go "he looks so young" or "his bones! hes too old for this" anymore. This "innocence" and "wonder" of the first time watching is amazing.
Me and my husband went to New Zealand for our honeymoon and went to Hobbiton, they let you touch and even go inside the little homes and everything there (except Bilbo's house) it was an amazing tour and you later went to the pup there, the Green Dragon, and you could order ale/beer and snacks it was awesome! It really was just as beautiful as it look's on screen with beautiful rolling green fields, the cool thing is though that the family still owns the land they built the town on and it's the family that hosts the tours and receives the profit from it. They rebuilt the town again with more sturdy and stable materials when they filmed The Hobbit later.
Just a side note, the reason the ring did not effect Frodo as much as it would Gandalf or really anyone else is that when the rings of power were made Hobbits were not even in existence yet in the world, they came later, since they were not part of the creation to control they have more resistance to it than the other races, it does eventually effect them yes but it takes longer to influence.

And yeah, you're right, Frodo doesn't get tempted by the Ring has to do with all the stuff Bilbo narrated at the beginning about hobbits - how their greatest loves are food, drink and green things. Most men, elves, dwarves or wizards would take weeks or months to become completely corrupted by the Ring - probably less if they were using it regularly like Bilbo was. It took Bilbo DECADES of use to reach the point where he got a little cranky at the idea of leaving it behind. So it's kinda impressive, when you think about it. Plus Bilbo is actually more corruptable than most hobbits because of his unusual desire for adventure and freedom. He has a reputation among other hobbits as a troublemaker. So Frodo is a great Ringbearer because he has no real desire for anything the Ring could offer him, but he also cares deeply about others and the world, so can't be scared off of his mission either.
Also Frodo (in the books) is like... in his 50s when he leaves Hobbiton, not a teen. Hobbits age more slowly than humans, but not by much - it's probably fair to say that he's supposed to be the equivalent of a human in probably his 30s. Though I think the casting aged him down considerably in these movies :P

Basically, he'd go into makeup the night before filming, and they'd put the prosthetics on him while he got his night's sleep in the makeup chair.

Frodo is not a kid. He is 50 years old. And hes not 4.ft 11, thats huge for a hobbit. Hes probally 3 ft 6 in to 3 ft 8 in tall.
Litteraly frodo was over 4ft some say 4ft2. The tallest ever was 4ft6 inches. Marry and pippen later drank a special ent beer and grew to be the tallest of all time

Also, the ominous chanting that is the Nazgul theme, is singing in Aduniac, the ancient tongue of Men in LOTR. They are singing about terror and despair and death coming with the Riders.

Okay, just finished watching yer reaction vid and had to add... I've watched this gem a guhbillion times now, and countless other reactor vids, to the point of over-dosing and just not watching them anymore... I watched your beginning just to see yer intro chit chat and let me tell you, in all sincerity... THIS version is beyond the best I've seen, if just for you both being so enamoured or enraptured or whatever, just so coolly mesmerized and grinning... just brilliant; I honestly felt like I was watching it for the very first time.
