Darth Maul Fight, the reveal, the music, the lightsaber is just everything to me! Genuinely will never forget this moment, easily one of my Favourite memories on the channel. Thank you to everyone who joined us on Star wars day. LET US KNOW WHO YOU WANT US TO COSPLAY AS NEXT???
Ash is gonna be Darth Maul, I saw this shit opening night at midnight and he will always be the most awesome villain I’ve ever seen. Hanna can be Vader 😂😂😂
Cosplay is amazing. Loved your affection for Darth Maul. If you want to see his last test watch the fanfic "Apprentice". It's amazing. Might just as well be a professional production
Yeah. Mail's death was a fucking insult. He was owning that fight till then. He should by rights have won. He wasn't a padawan. He wasn't old. But they needed Obi to live🙄
You guys saying that young Anakin is a good actor melted my heart because that poor boy got absolutely ruined by fans when this came out. He was bullied relentlessly and I always felt so sad about it 😩 thank you for praising his work! ❤
I've never understood why people treated him that way. What was the reason? Why did they think it was anywhere near ok? That bullying had a major effect on his mental health unfortunately.
@@passionsquietrage yep, for sure. One of the best Fandoms I've seen is for The Expanse. Game of Tnronss and Star Wars are pretty high up there. (In terms of toxicity) 😆
I can't tell you how wholesome it is to see Hannah react so positively to some of the things that are so heavily despised by the fandom, like the Ewoks, Jar-Jar, and Jake Lloyd's Anakin. It's just nice to see people enjoy shit for a change, instead of bashing on everything.
This is so true. Spewing hateful, toxic shit that actually hurts people so much they fall into depression (the actor of Jar Jar, and apparently, as I've just read, Jake Lloyd as well) is not okay, it's not what being a fan should be about.
@@claudiag8823 well what happened was people went after the actors instead of criticizing the movie itself. It’s fine and honestly necessary to criticize movies, but you cross the line when you harass the actors themselves. That being said, I agree, I love the Ewoks, Jar Jar, and even young anakin. Jar Jar in particular was revolutionary for cgi, and the behind the scenes shows they really just were carried away having fun with him, but the point of his character is to not judge people based on the fact that they look or act different from you. Everyone else views Jar Jar as an idiot except qui-gon, and because Qui-gon found value in him, it led to Jar Jar saving the day by telling padme about the gungan army. This led to Palpetine’s plan (partially) failing and to the Gungan society finally being represented in the republic and having a say in the larger politics of the galaxy. All because Qui-Gon saw value in Jar Jar when everyone else saw him as “another pathetic life form”
Hannah hit the nail when she said Qui-Gon was the one person who could’ve trained Anakin in a proper way. The music during the fight with Darth Maul is called ‘Duel of the Fates’ because that fight literally changed the course of the fate. Had Qui-Gon not died…the fate of Anakin Skywalker and consequently…the fate of the Galaxy could’ve been very different
Idk dooku was Qui-Gons master and those dark side forces always seem to be passed on.. Asoka literally was on the verge of becoming dark herself.. Anakins fate was sealed as soon as he stepped off tattooine.
If Qui Gonn lived, Anakin wouldn’t have turned. Simple as that and it’s been backed and explained by many people involved in the old Star Wars and Dave Filoni
The nuance Dooku gave to Qui gon’s thinking is why he never joined the masters and he would have managed Anakins pain better than, you shouldn’t feel pain - he wouldn’t have gone to the dark side, he would have had a deeper understanding of the force
@@AJPortfolio11 How do you figure he wouldn't have turned? It was a matter of time before Dooku's turn and Qui-Gon was often at odds with the council, he would've probably stuck by Dooku's side. At the least, been a Grey Jedi. In turn, Anakin would've wound up where he was regardless.
Can we just appreciate the fact that, at this point in The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul has no idea who Anakin is and what his relevance to the Jedi is, but still decides it's a fun idea to run over some random kid in the desert with his motorized vehicle.
In my mind, between Qui Gon and Anakin, there would have been an alarmingly large amount of force energy in the immediate vicinity from Maul's perspective. It seems bullyish to target a kid, but strategically, a little divide and conquer makes sense. Besides, any qualms I had there were monstrously overshadowed by the midi-chlorian buffoonery they were ham-handing into existence at the same time. Like something that central to The Force would not have come up once with Obi-Wan or Yoda in the original trilogy? I found/find "Darth Maul is a big meanie!' much more plausible.
@@Taylorswiftfan13308He didn’t have time to bring them up in the OT. Even in the PT after this point they’re only brought up in one scene in ROTS and that’s it.
The choreography was excellent. Gotta give a big hand to Ray Park who portrayed Darth Maul, really made the villain feel threatening and able to handle two Jedi at once. Also, the fact that this was Keira Knightley's first big acting role means that her career was essentially kick-started because she was hired as a Natalie Portman lookalike.
I love that their immediate reaction to Anakin was surprise and joy and then immediate despair because they know that this sweet kid is going to fall. They immediately recognized it's a tragedy.
In Qui Gon’s defence, its mentioned earlier in the film that all of the slaves on Tattooine are basically microchipped with a device that will explode if they try to leave the planet without being officially freed first
exactly so if Qui-Gon had taken the mother as well it would have been a death sentence for her and everyone else on the ship as she would have been blown up trying to escape killing everyone on the ship with her only watto could free her and deactivate the Bomb as he was her master and he would not allow it @justtrustash
Not to mention the fact that neither the Jedi nor the Republic have no jurisdiction in the Outer Rim Territories, where Tatooine resides. The Jedi cannot just go around and freeing slaves without either Republic authorization or starting conflicts with the Hutts.
Oh shit I ddnt even know that, I always assumed it was mostly just because the breach of jurisdiction would establish an undesirable precedent and qui gon probably knew he was being naughty enough, on top of how tricky it already is to stay in accordance with the will of the force without getting it conflated with your own feelings.

@@zaiville It didn't compute for me too and I was in 16 lol. Back then though I took a lot of things at face value aka I was still naive, especially when it came to plot twists. After watching this movie so many times I can tell now when Padme was the queen and when she wasn't.
Yes, all women have an inate ability to solve mysteries when they have seen a movie before and then film a reaction video pretending to have not seen it.
That scene when the door opens and Duel of the Fates starts playing, it gives me chills every single time. Darth Maul will forever be one of the most badass villains ever.
The "rat tail" of Obi Wan shows that he is a padawan learner, an apprentice, not a Jedi Knight yet. The final fight, sounding "Duel of the fates", it´s one of the best in the franchise for me. Legendary.
When the dude was cheering when Qui Gon got killed and the girl just kept looking at him like he's crazy made me laugh so hard. These two are absolutely hilarious together.
Two of my favorite Qui-Gon Jinn lines in this movie are: "The ability to speak does not make you intelligent" (So useable for so many people in real life) "There's always a bigger fish."
@@rainbowpegacornstudios This was one of the scenes that impressed me so much with this character watching the movie for the first time all these years ago, together with the scene in the beginning where he tries to break through the fireproof doors on the federation ship with his lightsaber. Hannah’s quick assessment of Qui-Gon being the only one that believed in Anakin was great! Hit the nail on the head with the start of Anakin’s downfall.
Gotta give Hannah all the credit in this reaction for understanding the significance of Qui-gon, and the Duel of the fates as a whole. That was quite a surprise.

Qui-Gon touched Obi-Wan’s face because he’s practically his father. A Jedi Master raises their apprentice from a very young age, usually toddler age. Jedi are not supposed to have attachments, but Qui-Gon was an outlier among Jedi, and thought many of the teachings were incorrect and outdated
Well, not from toddler age, that would be a bit young; they would have still been in the crèche by then, but sure, from a young age on definitely. I love how Qui-Gon touches Obi-Wan's face to wipe away his tears; it shows that he cares about Obi-Wan because if not for that gesture, it's pretty frustrating to watch since he only tells Obi-Wan to train Anakin, and doesn't have any kind words left for Obi-Wan; that gesture though shows it, and I didn't like Ash sayin We didn't need that now. We so DID need that gesture!
@@claudiag8823 Well, he thought it was a gay moment. Which is weird, to me. I have watched this movie like 30 times and it never crossed my mind. I have never seen any comment about it anywhere, during 20 years on the internet. But they managed to make the Force being all about "penetration" too, so yeah. That's just it with comedy though, you just miss the mark sometimes. But it's also what made the channel.
@di3486 well what do you expect? People practically asked for this in the public sphere, all of politics, entertainment and media continually dole it out, and now here we are: a generation progressively lacking in depth and discernment. Too late.
Jedi are taken from their Families as Babies (younger than Anakin) so that they do not form any attachment as that can lead you in the dark attachment and strong feelings for things and certain people can affect your judgement and your actions
People need to also know it wasnt always like that in the Jedi's history as well. This is only the case for the current era these movies take place in. Older renditions of the order wernt taken as babies and also were permitted relationships, wives, husbands, etc.. What we see in these movies is an extremely strict version of the Jedi compared to their relative history. You might even say it's lore accurate as to literally why their downfall came about. It's mentioned many times in this era depicted that these Jedi are the most dogmatic theyve ever been, and its what clouded their judgment in avoiding what happened.
They mentioned it at the dinner scene, but all slaves have an implant that blows up if they leave without authorization. So while Anakin was freed and his chip deactivated, his mother was not, and could not leave. Qui-Gon as a jedi can not simply threaten a person.
Ash mate you've completely missed the reason no Jedi has a "family" attachments create weaknesses. No other Jedi sympathizes with Anakin leaving his Mom because they've never had one themselves.
Except that this very system is what ultimately destroyed the Jedi. They should have embraced attachments and love. It was their suppression that caused such great conflict in Anakin.
@@Cthulhu013well yes, the Jedi system was majorly flawed this is shows in episode 3 the most, it was doomed to fail, especially since the Jedis Vision is so clouded when trying to foresee who is the disturbance in the force (the sith lord) aka “you know who” haha.
@@brycebuenrostro7029 Yeah for real. Their intuition was pretty dogshit if they couldn't sus out that Palpatine was shady. That actor was so damn good throughout btw. Ian something I think. Forget his name.
I MASSIVELY value and appreciate Integrity in a human being Ash so kudos to you for speaking your mind to your audience. I've personally never understood the hate the prequels got.
I think the saddest part of seeing that Anakin grew up as a slave is that you know that he becomes one again by the end of the story, just to the Emperor instead of Watto.
That haircut is not Obi-Wan's choice, it's the standard haircut for human Padawan learners, he can only change his hair after he's become a Jedi Knight.
Obi-Wan‘s ponytail signifies he is still a padawan learner. The ponytail is cut once he achieves the rank of Jedi knight via trials. Instead of the Jedi trials, Obi-Wan’s duel with Darth Maul was equivalent to his trials.
The bigger issue is that they NEVER mention their ages in the movie. It's a big problem because Padme comes off as 23 and Anakin as 7. Which makes the next fiml seem very off when they age them.
So the story of darth mauls design (and his race is called the Zabraks, they all have face tattoos and horns) George Lucas asked one of his designers to draw the scariest thing he’s ever seen in his nightmares, and he made a sketch that was so terrifying that George said “ok draw your second scariest nightmare”.

Qui-Gon wasn't bowing to Maul. He was meditating, which is a technique of light side force users to focus and channel their energy. At the same time, the pacing by Maul was a similar Darkside technique called Force Seethe which focuses their darkside powers. Sith can also use a Force Scream, which is an expression of extreme frustration, rage or grief that can temporarily disorient an opponent.

Just wanted to Clarify something for Ash. All the slaves on Tatooine are chipped so that they can’t run away. That’s why Qui Gon couldn’t take his Mother with them. Doing so would kill her and put the rest of the party, including the queen at risk. It’s very likely that had he survived his encounter with Darth Maul, Qui Gon would’ve gone back to free Anakin’s mother, but he sadly died. Just one of the many ways that Qui Gon’s death affected Anakin and led to his turn to the dark side. On a side note, Jedi’s in the republic are usually discovered and taken to begin training when they are very young. Often when they’re still infants, before they can create a strong bond with their parents. Because Tatooine wasn’t part of the republic, they didn’t sense Anakin’s existence which is why he wasn’t discovered earlier. It’s also why the Jedi counsel didn’t want to train him, because he was too old and already had developed relationships that could lead him down a path to the dark side. The life of a Jedi is a solitary one. It’s a life of service and selflessness, while the life of a Sith is the exact opposite.
Yea too many reactors miss the exchange over dinner and the nuance of the situation. It's 1 guy vs the whole system of the planet while he's undercover on a life or death mission for an entire other innocent planet.

To answer Ash’s question: no, yoda and the other Jedi masters did not know their mothers. At this time children with force sensitivity are taken from their families to be trained before they have a conscious relationship with their families. In order to avoid EXACTLY the kind of attachment issues that lead to the dark side. So they ARE acting like they never had a mother. For good reason.
Exactly. And they don't take them by force; the parents willingly give the children up - that bit's also very important to have in mind. Of course it's traumatising for Anakin, but no other Jedi would ever think anything unusual or bad about how things are handled by the Order; its simply the way it is.
@@claudiag8823 Yes, this would be excepted practice by the Jedi, but foreign to everyone watching. That's why I feel there is an important seen missing showing this to the audience. When Anakin tells Qui-Gon that he wants to visit every star, it makes me cry because he later fulfills his dream but in the guise of Darth Vader, clearing planets being the Emperor's Chain Dog
Ahmed Best (Jar Jar) and Jake Lloyd(Anakin) were both bullied and harassed relentlessly by fans that hated their characters so much(for dumb reasons). Ahmed nearly took his own life because of it(thankfully he stayed strong) and Jake's mental health was heavily impacted as he grew up. He ended up getting a few DUIs and has been in mental rehab center for several years now(at least the last I heard he was). The line "Thank the Maker" by 3PO when he gets the oil bath in A New Hope hit so different when I saw the reveal that Anakin made him in The Phantom Menace. The fact he comes full circle back to Anakin's son. Pure poetry.
Ash doesn't understand to be a Jedi, you can't be afraid of loss. You CAN have attachments, but you can't be afraid to lose them, because even if they're physically lost, they're still around in the form of the Force. He wouldn't be admitted into the Jedi order with that mentality
@thinkhector why do we need to be spoonfed every but of information? I personally don't like when a film has to hold your hand the whole time for it to be good. Sure it's not explicitly said in this, but it is explained in The Clone Wars
@@Coprolite19 It doesn't matter if it's explained elsewhere! The place it needed to be explained was in the film! You don't need to be spoonfed. @@roborob4296 I love that Ash vibes hard with the, well, the vibes, but I do think Hannah has a better understanding of this series. Truly wonderful, how her mind works through themes, and a tragedy of Ash The Wise for someone who talks so often of symbolisms; ironic...
When George Lucas was interviewed he said the light saber fights in the originals were between old men and he wanted a light saber fight with two Jedis in their prime.......That's why the fights were so good...
Well, in the first one, yeah. And it was also because the sabers (due to the original attempt at the effect being practical, as spinning reflective rods) were rather flimsy in that first one, and couldn't take much abuse. I would absolutely say though that the Vader-Luke fight in ESB is still excellent, even in comparison to this one. It has dramatic action and tension. Not as wild and fast and amazing as this one, of course (which I would concede is overall more impressive), but I always thought it had some real power, style, intensity and drama to it.
@@darthracer777 Agreed. I'm no expert, but s with all the OT ones, I'd say it had more of a European-style swordplay feeling than an Asian martial arts style like in the prequels. Both are cool.
@@Carl_Frank It works, all around I think. IN the prequels, the Jedi are in their prime, and lightsaber dueling is at least practiced if not common. By the time of "Empire" and "Jedi", it's essentially an old man (Vader) battling a relative novice (Luke) and those battles have that feel in parts of them. The difference in choreography works well there.
yeah, if we think about it the first fight is between two old men. The other fights is between an old man and a just-made-jedi that didn't learned this style of fighting, since he trained with Yoda that was also very old. So of course he's not going to have the same style of fighting of the prequels that was during the peak of the Jedi.

Yes, THAT's what being a fan is supposed to be about, the joy with these stories, not the toxic hate that leads to intolerance for the things other people love and, much worse, leads to people being mentally scared (namely Jake Lloyd but also Jar Jar actor Ahmed Best) because of the "adoring" fans.
"At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi." Phantom Menace is actually being re-released in cinemas this Friday in the U.K. for its 25th anniversary. Just a suggestion, mate 😇
You’re right, just googled it, most theatres are playing it through the 9th of May. BTW I stand with Ash about this movie and the hate it got. I’m an 80’s baby that was introduced to these movies on VHS by my dad before they were rereleased in theatres in the 90’s which my dad took me to see at like 7-8 years of age. I still remember the lines of people camped out with tents at the movie theatres before showtimes. After seeing the originals rereleased, I was everything Star Wars. Then a couple years later seeing this trailer with darth maul. Then watching it as he revealed himself no cloak with a double bladed lightsaber was epic. I never understood how it got so much hate, me also being an original fan of the first movies.
@@jordanmcbride9215 I hear ya. Sadly (or maybe it's a good thing) it's not just a star wars thing, or even movies, it really is a bigger picture... like people not liking other food even if they haven't tried it and want what they want, when they want it, the way they like it. And on and on and on... 😂 Ironically, these so called haters wouldn't have even got into the original star wars when it came out, they would have been so tightly wrapped into what came before. Trust me, I've met them. Ben said it for all to hear, it was right there in the first flick... these prequels were: "BEFORE the dark times. Before the Empire."
So just wanted to say a couple of things. 1. Anakin does bring balance by killing the emperor in the end (when he saves Luke, and he himself turns from the dark side in the end.) 2. Jedi are removed from their family when they are young so they don't have any connections. the council says Anakin is too old and has connection, plus they sense his fear of losing his mother so they are worried he'll turn. they believe this as an important part of the training of a jedi. 3. Maul has appearances in a couple of the animated shows, so there is more of him if you want to explore those. and another minor appearance somewhere that i wont spoil. Hannah brings up a good point about Qui Gon dying, in that he was the ones who had the values and training to possibly train Anakin in a way that would possibly avoid him turning to the dark side. The music during the fight is called the Duel of the Fates which possibly references the duel for Anakin's fate as a result of the fight. Can't wait to see how Hannah and ash react to some events coming in the next two films.
Hannah going in with the "little penis" and "rat boi" insults had me wheezing. Ash turning to her and actually looking appalled and repeating back what she said was it for me.
I suppose if I was a Hutt I’d probably mistake Salacious Crumb as a condiment on my next burger. Beware Ash, with your costume you could end up an ingredient in Jabba’s soup.
I was lucky enough to watch this movie as a child and I can tell you, it was absolutely BANGING ❤ I was even dressing up as Darth Maul in school a couple of times.
Ash, you don't get Qui-Gon at all. He was on a mission. He wasn't willing to risk it to fight a Sith Lord at that moment. Had he been killed, then what would have happened to Anakin and the others? If he could escape cleanly with everyone safe, then he would. At least he knows there are Sith Lords around, and that can dealt with by more Jedi at a later time. Qui-Gon is not afraid to die. That's part of being a Jedi. But he couldn't risk it at the time.
Well, he's pretty much said that darth maul is the best character in all of star wars because he looks cool so I'd not expect much. Hannah seems to get the characters more. Edit: I will say that obviously darth maul is really cool but if you only base it on episode 1, he doesn't have much depth.
This was one of the most fun I've had watching a video in a long time. Great content. Your dynamic is so funny and genuine. I think this might be my fav react channel online rn.
The piece of music over the lightsaber fight with Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-wan Kenobi, and Darth Maul was called "Duel of the Fates". It was released as a single before the film came out..and everyone was crazy for it. The little braid that Obi-wan has shows that he is a Padawan, not a fully Jedi Knight. He is still learning with Qui-Gon as his Master. Keira Knightley made her film debut as the handmaiden to Natalie Portman's Queen Padem Amidala. Ray Park, who plays Darth Maul, is a martial artist, and he played the role of Toad in the first X-Men film. However, the voice of Darth Maul was provided by actor Peter Serafinowicz, who is probably best known as The Somalier in John Wick Chapter 2, giving Wick a "tasting" of guns for his "party". The Sith (Darth Sidious and Darth Maul) follow the Rule of Two, a Master and Apprentice, One who holds the Power, and one who craves the Power. No more, no less. I am so surprised that the TH-cam edit had no mention of Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu. He's one of my favorite characters in the Prequels...and when you see his lightsaber...it's sick!!! A bit of trivia...there is a real life family connection between the Prequels and the Original Trilogies. Ewan McGregor (Obi-wan Kenobi) is the nephew of actor Denis Lawson, who played the X-Wing pilot Wedge Antilles in the first trilogy. Wedge was in the group of X-Wings on the final run with Luke and Biggs on the first Death Star, he felled the first AT-AT walker on Hoth with the tow cable around its legs, and was the X-Wing pilot who took out the second Death Star with Lando Calrissien in the Millennium Falcon.
Yeah, I wondered about the missing reaction to Samuel L. Jackson, too. And also, until now, nobody has mentioned the connection between Ewan McGregor and Denis Lawson before here, not that I've seen; thought about adding it myself, but I thought it would maybe be confusing for them to identify Wedge/remember him^^. Well done from your side though bringing it up. I love these little bits of trivia, and would have loved to see Hannah and Ash's reactions learning about these things. That would have been wicked.

I love Ewoks lol
Hannah’s face when Ash was celebrating Qui-Gon death 😅
Like “is this bitch for real”
She was watching her boy turn to the dark side right in front of her.
Facts
@@AJPortfolio11 How do you figure he wouldn't have turned? It was a matter of time before Dooku's turn and Qui-Gon was often at odds with the council, he would've probably stuck by Dooku's side. At the least, been a Grey Jedi. In turn, Anakin would've wound up where he was regardless.
Can we just appreciate the fact that, at this point in The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul has no idea who Anakin is and what his relevance to the Jedi is, but still decides it's a fun idea to run over some random kid in the desert with his motorized vehicle.
Thats how he rolls.

Also props to Nick Gillard, stunt coordinator who trained all these actors on how to sword fight

Well, the day that chip was installed, they should've gone extinct lol.✊️
exactly so if Qui-Gon had taken the mother as well it would have been a death sentence for her and everyone else on the ship as she would have been blown up trying to escape killing everyone on the ship with her only watto could free her and deactivate the Bomb as he was her master and he would not allow it @justtrustash

To answer Ash’s question: no, yoda and the other Jedi masters did not know their mothers. At this time children with force sensitivity are taken from their families to be trained before they have a conscious relationship with their families.

Exactly. And they don't take them by force; the parents willingly give the children up - that bit's also very important to have in mind. He really hurts my brain with his takes a lot of times lol, but at least Hannah typically understands and isn't afraid to tell him how it is😂
Ash be channeling that Salacious Crumb energy....
Ash made an excellent point about WHY he was cheering for Darth Maul. Qui Gon did abandon Anakin's mother. A lot of people seem to be okay with this. But now that I think about Ash is right that's kinda fucked up they Jedi take babies away from their mothers.
@thinkhector and like I said qui gon was one of the few jedi that actually saw how messed up the jedi could be, and he couldn't bring his mother bc if she tried to leave she would have been blown up so there's that
I spent 8 hours in line at the theater for the premier of this movie, the night the show opened at the end of the Obi-Wan/Darth Maul fight a guy was actually jumping up screaming "Kick his ass! Kick his fucking ass!!!" and the rest of the theater was absolutely going berserk as well. It was the experience of a lifetime.
How much of a badass is Liam Neeson? He trained Batman AND Darth Vader!!
And yet, someone thought it would be a good idea to kidnap his daughter.
@jeffreymcmahon3627 I back Ryan Reynolds on that. They made 3 of those movies. Sometimes you just have to chalk it up to bad parenthood!
@@jeffreymcmahon3627
😂😂
Same! High school at West Edmonton Mall at SilverCity! That theatre was so badass back then too! Fire breathing animatronic dragon and everything!
Hannah and Ash defo need to make a cameo in some starwars scene as two bickering aliens 😂😂
I am a big Star Wars fan and I know so many fans hate this trilogy but it holds a special place in my heart. This was the first and only movie my father took me to as a child. I was ten years old and had never seen the original trilogy but my father loved them so he took me to see this movie. I remember it as if it happened yesterday. He bought me nachos and a soda, we both had huge smiles on our face the entire time. I now have two sons of my own, four years old and a one month old. I cannot wait for them to get a little bigger so I can introduce them to the movies.
There was definitely some greatness in there. But were you at least bored by the beginning? I was 14 when I saw it and almost fell asleep during the first 45 minutes.
@@ct6852 Nope. I was hooked from the first moment because I fell in love with Qui-Gon from the first second.^^ I was only bored by the podrace; still am and I always fast forward it.
@@ct6852 It's possible but I don't really remember being bored. I was enamored by Darth Maul, to this day he is my favorite character. I also really enjoyed the podracing.
@@claudiag8823 Ewen McGregor was pretty great in these. Underrated perhaps. He did a solid job of really holding the whole thing together imo.
Same. I remember being really amazed by prequels.
"Oh piss off, what are you Mary?!" Hannah is too much 🤣
Seeing your reaction to Darth Maul was everything!
Hannah is spot on about losing Quigon. He was Anikins father figure and the only one who believed in him. It’s what began the process of Darth Vader. Without his death there would be no Star Wars. Hence the song Duel of the fates 🔥
The line "Thank the Maker" by 3PO when he gets the oil bath in A New Hope hit so different when I saw the reveal that Anakin made him in The Phantom Menace. The fact he comes full circle back to Anakin's son. Pure poetry.
Hannah is the best kind of person to watch movies with
What about Ash ??
You gonna disrespect him 🤷♂️
@@jimmykarlsson2567 Shh let Hannah receive her praise
Hannah actually understanding the duel of the fates is hilarious 😂😂😂
Ash doesn't understand to be a Jedi, you can't be afraid of loss. You CAN have attachments, but you can't be afraid to lose them, because even if they're physically lost, they're still around in the form of the Force. He wouldn't be admitted into the Jedi order with that mentality
Rat boy 😂
They just need a good grief therapist honesty - this guy made a whole video about it: th-cam.com/video/tUPD1w78D5I/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NIzWlRyTdonkDcXd
No that isn't Ash's fault. It's the fault of the film for never explaining important plot points.
You could have had a scene at the beginning of Quin Gon taking a baby from his mother and this baby could have been Obi-Wan.
You could have a scene where a slave tried to escape and they blew up. No explanation. But teaching about the world thru story.
You are the best Star Wars Fan reviewing couple EVER!!! Thank you SO MUCH for riding this train and sharing your awesome reactions! CHEERS!!
This thumbnail got me laughing like Ash 😂👌
It makes me think of the red demon scene in Insidious
Love how much you both are into the movie and Star Wars as a whole. Looking forward to your reactions to Episode II + III and "Rogue One"!
I hope they dive into the mandalorian series as well!
The fun fact I want to contribute to the comments is that the legendary duel between Obi Wan and Darth Maul was practised to such a degree by the actors that the final edit had to be slowed down for viewers enjoyment.
I love a good sword fight it is one of the best.
I love how Hannah just gets EVERYTHING right away.
The force is with Hannah. Haha.
and how ash misses and hates on everything to an almost intolerable level. man hannah watching these solo she would enjoy them so much more
@@roborob4296 I love that Ash vibes hard with the, well, the vibes, but I do think Hannah has a better understanding of this series.
@Carl_Frank the death star throne room lightsaber duel between Luke and Vader was pretty good.
The actor who played little Anakin was bullied in school for playing the character and his little sister passed away who was also in the set of the film as one of the extras at the end and he still has a hard life growing up with serious mental health.
Hannah clocking the Queen Am decoy immediately is so good and so on-brand for her
"Oh my God, that's Darth Vader, and I love him..." my fav ❤
I've just binged watched about 10 of your reactions including your Star Wars Journey. I'm so happy that you're finally doing this. You guys are great. I loved that you dressed as Yoda and Salacious Crumb
This is the best Star Wars reaction I’ve ever seen! Thank you for appreciating the beauty and badassery of all the Star Wars movies. That poor little boy who played anakin was bullied so badly after this movie by weak little men who call themselves fans. You two are what Star Wars fans should strive to be. May the 4th be with you!
"At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi."
Phantom Menace is actually being re-released in cinemas this Friday in the U.K. for its 25th anniversary. Just a suggestion, mate 😇
Aaw man coming from California USA I would be there for that.
@@jordanmcbride9215 It's being rereleased worldwide. It's def playing in Cali.
Ironically, these so called haters wouldn't have even got into the original star wars when it came out, they would have been so tightly wrapped into what came before. Trust me, I've met them.
Ben said it for all to hear, it was right there in the first flick... these prequels were: "BEFORE the dark times. Before the Empire."
lol @chefskiss6179 “I was a Jedi knight the same as your father.”
Hannah is one smart cookie with these predictions. Wow.
So just wanted to say a couple of things.
1. Anakin does bring balance by killing the emperor in the end (when he saves Luke, and he himself turns from the dark side in the end.)

This is simaltaneously, the funniest and most horrifying dress up sesh Ive ever seen 😂 Bravo!
I suppose if I was a Hutt I’d probably mistake Salacious Crumb as a condiment on my next burger. Beware Ash, with your costume you could end up an ingredient in Jabba’s soup.
Ash gushing over Darth Maul and I am just...that's the Kitchen Gun guy. Bangs indeed.
I was lucky enough to watch this movie as a child and I can tell you, it was absolutely BANGING ❤
I was even dressing up as Darth Maul in school a couple of times.

I love people discovering Star Wars for the first time.
I don't know if I buy it. Its rare for people to watch the OT and PT as adults and think the PT is better. That usually only happens when they grew up on the PT
‘Revenge of the Sith’ is going to be so fun to watch Ash and Hannah react to.
When Jake Lloyd drawls "The biggest problem in the universe is no-one helps each other", imagine George Lucas delivering that line. It is uncanny.
