I have a wisdom tooth that may be infected and I live in a van in the desert, had to drive like 90 miles to the nearest dentist that wasn't overpriced private hell but got turned down bc I didn't have my physical insurance card. Had the policy number and everything (it was even state insurance) but they refused to see me bc I didn't have the PHYSICAL card. Drove my ass all the way back for nothing with my 6 dollar a gallon gas in a van that gets 15mpg. It is 2022 and we have the technology to clone animals. Idk thought y'all would find that funny

Love the commentary at 34:30. Was talking to a colleague at work and he could not believe that I thought Elon or Trump was "stupid". When I told him that I think intelligence includes things like empathy and an ability to project an image of the world that is abstract (and not just driven by pure self-interest like, say, a cat), he did not really seem to agree. I think for a lot of people they just see the outcome of "success" or "being the best in the room" and the assumption is that they are really good at something valuable. It kind of makes sense, but only if you see intrinsic value in having money.
I think this attitude is also deeply rooted in competition. If you achieved something it must have been in a fair system of competition which proves that you are "better" than that other person by the rules of that system.

Note on the Boring Company: It is a success on the actual boring machines the engineers refined, the problem is that Elon refuses to lend those machines to useful boring projects, like subways, purposefully making sure they couldn't be retrofit for public purpose, like the single car lines.
The point stands about Elon's projects bring dumb moneypits, but it's genuinely the worst use for the technology, making it seem stupid.
tbh this sounds more like he started Boring Company specifically to capture the technology, owning the machines and the patents, preventing their use as you said in order to ensure only cars can benefit.
it would be a crazy thing to think, but honestly, less crazy than a lot of dumb shit hes done. its follows the pattern of him buying people to make something good then fucking with it
Tbf the tech is only a few percentages better at it then current tech and its cost benifit is hard to tell without numbers.
Specifically in actual tunnelling it might be useless so its all up in the air because alot of the claims the company makes are horseshit so its hard to parce whats real or not from the actual technical data.
Edit: theoritically you basically cant get that much better than current technology so a few percentage points is all thats possible nothing revolutionary
