We had fun with this movie, though the premise we were operating on was that the aliens were the good guys trying to do a peaceful first contact and warn us about a coming threat but utterly fucked it up and were forced to defend themselves.
@@blakchristianbale How could a movie "from an alien perspective" be intelligible? Like Wittgenstein pointed: even if a lion could speak english we would not understand him - different worlds.
@@blakchristianbale lol "From the aliens perspective" and "from an alien perspective" means the same thing. I was annoyed cause I thought *that would be a cool movie* but then thought about it again and it really is an anti-humanist, anti-Enlightenment mode of thinking. Even more stupid than attributing personhood to non-human animals cause at least with them we share an environment and ancestors.
@@joãof.mendes it’s actually an anti-American one, I don’t think aliens would necessarily get the same reception in every part of the world And no those don’t mean the same thing. Following the POV of aliens in a movie doesn’t in any way whatsoever imply their perspective would be alien to us, the viewer. You know how in The Lion King we follow lions that speak English, and proving Wittgenstein totally wrong we understand their perspective just fine? Yeah, you do know that, you’re just pretending you don’t because you’ve decided that anthropomorphism is wrong for some reason
Rihana was also in Valerian and the city of a thousand planets, in which I remember her acting being particularly bad while being the best part of the film. She was also in Ocean's 8, which I didn't see.
The whole point of the blue digital cameos was to promote recruiting. Think about it, why would we want our sailors to camouflage with the ocean if they go overboard lol
@@joshmccollen700 There was a big hullabaloo when he wanted to change the job designations in the Navy (it's kind of esoteric but it was huge). They were going to stop addressing people by their job designations, and instead just by their rank. Enlisted personnel were outraged and signed a petition. It may sound inconsequential, but people have a great deal of pride in their individual jobs. For instance, after boot camp I went to my secondary school (called "A" School), and in the entry to the barracks, they have the pictures of all the Medal of Honor recipients who had the same job. Keep in mind many of these people died in the process. So anyway, they withdrew the initiative. There were other things as well, but that really really stands out. Editor's Note: I was too pussy to sign the petition, being that I am a conformist who is genuinely scared of crossing the DOD/DON.

I hear that in the navy you can sail the seven seas. In the navy you can put your mind at ease.
What happens in the navy stays in the navy.
In the navy, you can catch some STDs
Most unrealistic thing about the movie in retrospect is that the retired veterans didn't team up with the aliens against humanity.
I could listen to felix recount the plot of entourage for hours
Underrated Matt Joke. After Felix outlines how they will die. "Wait so your aware of this and we are still going through with it?

Heroic but naive aliens land in America and have to defend themselves (entirely from the aliens’ perspective) is a solid premise for an action movie

They should have done the whole movie in white sailor suits and short shorts.
