    These episodes are so hard to listen to because once Bernie won California and the lib panic set in, Chris Mathews cried about it, hilariously, then : they said, ‘No’, and Obama made the phone calls which you KNOW gave the Trump/Republican coalition joy, making it so simple to crush the shards of Democracy to which we were clinging. And now: boot of fascism is coming at our face.

      @Wanker Wanker as a matter of fact, the "real" working class is much closer to a waitress and an uber driver in this day and age than a carpenter or a coal miner. It's simply a reality of the modern service economy

    • @oolacilesbotnet6564
      @oolacilesbotnet6564 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @Wanker Wanker first of all, it's simple numbers. those sorts of workers represent a far larger portion of the working base than those occupations you mentioned because, in case you hadn't noticed, the economy isn't undergoing industrialization anymore, it's a post-industrial one. Which, for the record, isn't something I celebrate but do recognize since I'm not delusional.
      Also, I have to laugh at the notion that the Ghanaian Uber driver is somehow participating in a "bourgeoisie occupation". It's a working class gig, and a shitty one at that. Sorry, if it doesn't align with your romantic notions of the working class but it would seem you are the one who is failing to speak for workers if this is your attitude/level of analysis

    All they said about Joe Rogan was he’s a simpleton, and this was before his big Covid reveal. They’re just saying that sanders going on the show isn’t a colossal failure, which it wasn’t. He pushed back whenever he needed to, and explained his policies in a concise, specific and relatable way

  • @brainrottedindividual

    i watch joe rogan sometimes for the guests and he is a pretty good interviewer imo. but the dudes politics are just super inconsistent and it seems he can easily be swayed in one or the other direction. i don't expect him to share my opinions, but how far left or right leaning he is seems dependant of the guest he's talking to. that's why i find it hard to take his stance on anything seriously. the only consistent thing about him is that doesn't want to pay taxes, hence he moved to texas.

    • @joeleonard9965
      @joeleonard9965 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      It's less appealing for people with rigid political views, but one of the reasons he oscillates based on the guest is that he wants to get to know them and give them a fair shake. Going into depth with a several hour conversation wouldn't work if he he just disagreed on everything at the start. He talks to everyone and let's them unravel with their own words. The best example you could use in terms of him capitulating more than normally with guests is when he has veterans on. But even then, there are hundreds of hours of him talking about being anti-war and how much the military industrial complex bothers him.

    I'd like to make a point about generalising JRE viewers. Sure there are likely plenty of people who admire Joe and the dudebro attitude he conveys, but I think for most, including myself, it's more about the guests he has on. In the ~1500 episodes he's done, there are 100s of hours of good intellectual fodder from the various academics and professionals in their fields, where Joe is minimally contributing to the conversation, and they can just speak their piece and disseminate whatever it is they've learned in life.
    There are a bunch of absolute gems in there featuring insights of some of the very people that future us will be watching in smalls clips like we do now for the interesting folks of the last century. similar interview formats existed back in the day, with the various 'late night shows', although they weren't 2-3 hours in length.
    Joe really could have been anybody, but between Jamie producing quality audio and video, and Joe's ability to get various guests on, it's put him on a platform that he doesn't entirely deserve as it really was a right time, right place sort of deal. So I think focussing on Joe is the wrong idea, whether one admires him or criticises him, he's a moot point. The podcast itself and it's ability to bring on the right sort of guests is what matters the most.
    A three hour video interview is a good amount of time to detect a persons honesty, conviction, and capacity for talking out of their arses. Far better than the curated shit people are served on TV and Facebook.

    • @alexanderwestphal9777

      All of that intellectual fodder is interspersed with garbage commentary from a moron who can't comprehend what the guests are saying

    • @francdollar163
      @francdollar163 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Agreed. Fuck the bitter people saying “he’s a moron” while he’s been smart enough to put together a media empire and actually bring back the idea that being smart and curious is cool.
      Saying his listeners don’t vote is just as detached as most of the people they’re talking about. It’s especially true now in hindsight.
      It blows my mind that people can still try to argue that the demo he represents is racist or phobic or irrelevant. It’s that type of cowardice to engage with others you don’t agree with and self inflated, nose in the air idea of self value that sunk Hilary and the Dems before and they still don’t get it. People have real issues and problems in life and they know politicians aren’t going to do shit to solve them and neither are the people hand wringing on Twitter so they just live their life and try to let actions speak instead of constant drivel that goes no where.

    Joe Rogan has opened more minds than main stream media has closed. Lots of people including myself aren't as educated as we would like to be. Being exposed to a 3 hour interview with Edward Snowden, Bernie Sanders or Cornel West instead of a 5 minute bitch fest on main stream media has been super helpful. Sometimes he has guests like Ben Shapiro that I don't agree with and Alex Jones who cannot be taken seriously but his show is the least non bias of any podcast on youtube. The Rogan podcast allows the viewer to think for themselves. It has also given exposure to comedians that might otherwise gone unnoticed to a large degree.

      chum bucket Um, I don’t know? They have done that on the show, in general, but my guess is that if one or two of them went on the show (I don’t think they’d all be there, or all want to) that they wouldn’t address that unless it came up.
      I guess I don’t understand what you mean. If you mean that there wouldn’t be any real value in any of them appearing on the show, unless they definitely covered that topic, then I don’t know what to tell you. I think there can be plenty of value in an appearance without covering that topic, just because it’d be sort of absurd to imply that anything valuable that they could discuss would necessarily be contingent on them discussing trans rights, and Joe’s past idiocy and ignorance on that topic (not that you’re implying that, but I could see how someone might assume that based on your comment). It’s like, I don’t think Bernie, Cornell, or any other lefty appearing on the show was pointless or valueless just because they didn’t confront him about trans issues.
      Would I want them to at least briefly discuss that if one or more of them appeared on the show? Sure, I think Felix especially could talk to him in a way that would get through to Joe, and at least get him to move to a less problematic position on trans people’s existence, and/or what it is/means to be trans, and why/how he could be more respectful. I think that’d be a very good thing, and I think Felix could probably do a pretty good job at getting through to Joe on that, but I just don’t think any point or value of his (or anyone’s) appearance on the show is contingent on that issue. If you disagree, I’m open to being told why I’m incorrect. ✌️

    • @nikolademitri731
      @nikolademitri731 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      bloomerette To be fair, I think Joe did misgender that trans woman fighter, at least he did Fox, when he was talking about how horrified he was about her participating in women’s MMA, bc she had gone through a male puberty, thus had more bone density, and just generally the advantage of all the test from male puberty. And I’m kinda cleaning up the language, if I’m remembering the episode(s) of JRE when he said those things.. I’m just saying, I do believe he did explicitly say, *“that’s a man”,* and that’s misgendering her, by definition.
      As far as the debates over trans people in sports are concerned, that’s a separate conversation, and unfortunately back when Joe was caught up in all that a few years back, he was conflating multiple things, and did use transphobic language, including misgendering Fox, and it’s just kind of a shame bc there’s a legitimate discussion to be had, and he could have had a discussion based on science, with real professionals and doctors (let alone Fox, who could have maybe had a civil dialogue with him). *I don’t think Joe is a raging transphobic bigot, I think he just had emotions and ignorance on the subject take over, and it lead him to make regrettable (and definitionally transphobic) comments,* and I also have no doubt that in the 6+ years since all this happened, he’s learned a lot, and I’m sure he regrets those comments. In fact, I am pretty sure he apologized, but don’t quote me on that, bc I may be misremembering. If he hasn’t that’s dumb, he should, but either way I don’t think Joe is this raging transphobic bigot ppl make him out to be, based on many other sympathetic comments he’s made about transgender people.
      Bottom line, I’m just trying to disaggregate a few things here.. My above comments from a few days ago still stand, but that’s not to say I think Joe didn’t misgender Fallon Fox, and get several things wrong about trans people, and trans people in sports. I just don’t think he’s this crazy bigot some people have made him out to be, as I think anyone who’s listened to/watched a substantial amount of JRE (as I have) can tell. That’s why I think Felix could move Joe in a better direction on the topic; if I thought Joe was some super transphobic asshole, I wouldn’t think such a thing were possible.
      For Joe, I honestly think 90% of his conversations come down to who’s sitting in front of him, and the reality is if all those years ago he’d have had the right people (ppl knowledgeable on this topic) in front of him, I think it’d have gone way different, *even if his final conclusion was still that trans women who experienced male puberty still should not engage in combat sports with cis women.* He could have come to this same conclusion, without the unnecessarily bigoted language, but unfortunately that didn’t happen, and here we are still having these conversations 6+ years after the fact... ✌️

    It's too bad that Rogan talks to so many unsavory right-wingers and grifters, because I might enjoy JRE if it weren't for that. In theory, I vibe with the conversational, laid-back format of the show where he just shoots the shit with a wide variety of interesting people who have interesting things to say. And while there _are_ some episodes here and there where he has cool guests like Hamilton Morris, all too often he lets these patently evil creeps like Alex Jones and Jordan Peterson spew all sorts of hateful nonsense without seriously challenging them. I could sort of understand speaking to either of those guys _once_ out of morbid curiosity and wanting to understand what it is they believe (which wouldn't be _that_ bad if you knew when to put your foot down), but then he has them back on over and over in a way that makes it seem like he's tacitly endorsing their bullshit.

    I get what they mean, during a general election getting non voters to vote for your side in an election, this would have helped a lot during a theoretical sanders trump election, however a primary is a whole different beast, you need to appeal to the core of the party to win. Non voters who sometimes vote in the general and will vote sanders if he is on the ticket will not vote in a primary, or are very unlikely to vote in a primary. Biden won the nomination by appealing to a huge core of the party, black voters. Sanders had broad appeal but the appeal was to people who would not be voting in the primaries, only the general. I think that the next left candidate that comes up to run should learn from sanders mistakes and try to appeal to the base of the party. Sanders should have won, the policies were popular with democrats, only problem was he was thinking of it like it was a general election, not an "get the base to like you" type contest

So Joe probably heard that bees wings can't support their mass, thought about the size of bumblebees compared to their wings for 0.27 seconds and thought "damn dude that's fucking crazy" and then forgot about it until context reactivated that factoid.

      just went and checked the podcast with sanders. what was the main point these guys made? that millions of people, mostly right-wing and/or non-voters would see sanders speak. the podcast has 14 million views on youtube alone. here's a couple of the highest liked comments:
      "It’s interesting how people and news and so forth make Bernie sound crazy, but he actually seems to speak sense. I’m a staunch republican. This has been mind opening."
      "This feels like the watershed moment for alternative media. Random mma guy joe rogan has a far better interview with a presidential candidate than any mainstream media and reaches vast amounts of people."

      @@connorglaze538 You're completely misunderstanding what he said. That entire chunk of the conversation they were mocking how exclutionary the liberal elites are, and that something like not going to college makes you an outsider. That quote was him paraphrasing what a liberal elite might say. His point was that you do NOT become racist, homophobic and transphobic just because you didn't go to college. But people who went to college have a sense that's the case. "You literally do learn that shit in college" meant that you "learn" in college that non-college people become racist because they didn't get a proper education.

    • @connorglaze538
      @connorglaze538 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonathanblanton4642 I got the exclusionary liberal elite point, but his characterisation of people who haven't gone to college was definitely genuine or at least phrased that way. The woman told that story about someone worrying about an alt right guy joining their union right after and called it the "exact same conversation", likening people on the alt right to the guy's toxic caricature of a man who didn't go to college and therefore hasn't learned how not to be a bigot.
      It's kinda ironic he's talking about how harmful liberal gatekeeping is here when the kind of language he used to describe Joe Rogan fans plays beautifully into the right wing narrative that everyone on the left sees anyone outside their circle as backwards intolerant hicks.

    • @jonathanblanton4642

      @@connorglaze538 That is NOT what they are saying. He was saying that's how college people view non-college people, and that it is NOT correct. Half of their podcast is spent trashing colleges and the cirriculum that they teach.
      And were you not listenging at all to her union comments? She was laughing at and criticizing union members who were worried about alt-right people joining the union, and that it was the same conversation college elites have about non-college elites. And she then specifically said that if an alt-right guy joins your union, then you've won! That's a good thing, as opposed to what the union gatekeepers think.
