The Galaxy Tab line of tablets are my go to android tablet for drawing. This new S9 FE takes a lot of what I loved about the big brothers and it takes away some features to make it more budget priced and that's where it excels.

Makes zero sense to me to ever buy the more expensive one with more storage when its way cheaper just adding your own memory card
Memory card read/write speeds like to go SLLLOOOOOW BABY!!!
@@StonerSquirrelIt's a tablet, the read/write speeds are fast enough
You have a strong point I feel like that's for people that have money to burn.
Shhhh, don't say that out loud! Otherwise they are going to take that away from us!
If you just loading files like images or things that just need to load once, you are right. If you store a bunch of games or editing a lot of video the SD card will be significantly slower. Personally I would just get an SD too for my usage. The higher capacity tablets usually come with more RAM to handle the files faster, so there is that too.
Great information. I'll definitely pass on this information to my art students and their parents that ask me about going digital. Always look forward to you videos Brad, keep up the great work!
The main reason I went for the galaxy tab s8 plus instead of the tab 7 plus was because the input lag on the s pen is way faster. Galaxy tab s8 are getting cheaper and have a way more powerful processor than the tab 9 fe. Also has 120 hz vs 90
@nickbryant6970 so you'd recommend the s8 vs the s9 fe?
Love the Samsung tablets, and the FE line are great products! Yes, the iPad Pro (also own that) has more software availability, but I generally find myself using Clip Studio for illustration work anyway. So, if CS is your primary art app (or Autodesk Sketchbook), I would definitely go with a Samsung over iPad for cost and features-for-price. I can also easily transfer files between the FE tablet and my Fold 5 phone (which also uses S pen and CS). As an added bonus, just about all the the Samsung tablets work great with Windows laptops as a stripped-down Wacom tablet or additional display, just like Sidecar for Mac/iPad.
not just like Sidecar, much better, Sidecar is really a inferior solution
I was really on the fence between ipad and samsung but seeing your comment and this video really made me decide. I use alot of PS, CSP and adobe apps and being able to use a tablet for art aswell as a display for my pc made it an easy choice. Only one question, is the S8 better or the s9 FE? S8 is considerably more expensive
@@relentless4843 S8 is definitely better than S9Fe, which as more value depends on the exact price
@relentless4843 I can't say for sure, but the FE versions are simpler versions of the "regular" more featured tablets. I'd say you'll be happy with the S8 or 9FE, whatever your budget allows. When the pandemic started, I broke my 12" 2018 iPad and bought a Samsung Tab S6 lite. It was the first Samsung tablet I used Clip Studio on. So, I think you'll be good whatever your choice.
I am fashion degining student and want to start digital art and digital illustration but i have only budget for around 50k
Which should I choose between this two?
Finally. Thank you for the review i've been waiting for this.
I've had the fe for about a week now. The S pen just feels a little more responsive than the last generation, and the button doesn't trigger as easily. Personally, I think the slim keyboard and a mouse is the best set up to use with these tablets(for productivity).
Do you have the Slim Keyboard ? I'm hesitating between the two. I love the form factor of the slim but being stuck with only one viewing angle is why I'm leaning more towards the bigger one.
@@KrazyShark I got both and sold the slim, the typing experience on the book cover is much nicer...
@@_Digitalguy Thank you ! I'm definitely going for the big one then 👌
Does it have the second screen feature?
Actually I'm pretty sure every generation samsung reduces the latency of the S-pen more and more! Its at a point where it is 95% close to a real pencil I think.
You covered everything (and more) i wanted to know, in this video. Great job! I really wanted to know if i would feel more comfortable drawing on a larger screen and you covered that. I will go with the smaller screen, seeing that you don't miss the ultra screen when you draw on the Fe screen. Thank youuuu! 💚💚💚
I'm thankful i found your channel this is a good help for me!
Thanks for the review. It pretty much answered my request on your cheap vs. steep video.
Was waiting for this!
s-pen is way better then apple pencil
Really enjoy this video I've been trying to figure out if I'm going to get this for school it'll be my first time owning a tablet. And that's what I predominantly I'm going to be using it for.
I'm still rocking the Tab s4 10" and it does great in my opinion. It's not as high resolution as the newer tablets, but it is plenty for most projects. That said, this may be the best contender for an upgrade Samsung has put out in a while, as I'm on a budget.
I agree. I got a good deal on my Tab S4 as it was pre-owned and has a dead camera ISP (both cameras don't work at all), but other than that, it's the highest-end configuration which is 256 GB of internal storage plus mobile network support.
The non-functional camera ISP is not a problem for me as I don't really need a camera on a tablet except for document scanning and video conferencing which I can do on my phone.
Another downside with the Tab S4 is that its official keyboard case doesn't have a trackpad (Samsung only added that with the Tab S6), but the case design does allow for ease of use while sitting in a public bus seat and I can get by with using the pen to tap stuff on screen when I'm sitting at a desk.
I was torn between this and the s9 fe plus for a new tablet that is primarily going to be used for artwork and this video sold me on it! I already use clip studio paint on my home pc and knowing it not only runs great but also has a streamlined simple interface mode is just great! Thank you for this vid!
Love your reviews. I need to give Clip Studio another go with that new interface!
would you mind covering the Lenovo Tab Extreme? Ive been interested in this tablet based on the specs and performance but i wanted your opinion on it. I think the display out option is really useful too. love your videos and art, thank you for covering an artist's perspective for tablets. hardly ever see it in reviews anymore, i really appreciate it
Ive been waiting for your review on S9 FE , because this is something that seems "worth it" not too expensive but gives a near flagship experience it is latest , I'll be getting in med school in a few months and im up for getting a new tab for notetakimg and drawing by next year ,its a double thumbs up!
I am on my second year of medical school and I am waiting for this tablet's delivery. Good luck in your medical school, hope you will enjoy it and won't burn out💖💖💖

@@cosmicsoul_wav hey, I absolutely love it! The tablet is amazing, recommend it 100%. I am not an expert, but I like it.
Oh wow a S9 FE is released!! This is so cool 😮
Hey Brad, sorry for the second and late comment, but I wonder if you could do a comparison between S9FE and S9 to see how well the 2 tablets handle large artworks, like time to open/save files, how many layers before the program starts lagging, etc.
I'm guessing there would be a huge difference since my older s7 fe always crashed once I opened more than 10-15 layers.
Thanks a million for your excellent content. I'm new to digital arts, as a 28 year old it feels like something has been missing my whole adult life - that is creative art!! After watching this I am convinced to get the S9 FE. Can't wait to get started and officially become an artist!! 🙏🏼✨️
Great review. Is there any particular screen protector you would recommend for Samsung tabs?? I've tried some in the past but they seemed to leave in printed 'lines' where I had been drawing, which became quite messy after a while.
amazing, complete review as always
eh just one, I don't hear brad talk about the dex this time
I have this one and I'm so happy with it!!
Thank you so much for this review!
I have a late 2022 ipad pro and pencil 2 and my daughter has been wanting to get into digital art like I do. I have been looking around for a more affordable option for a tablet for her birthday and have been curious about this tablet and how it performs for creative purposes. I love your reviews and I'm sure she's gonna love her new tablet and art lessons!
I dont know about this exact tablet, but I had an older samsung tab and as a beginner, drawing on it was frustrating due to not being able to press undo while the pencil is within 1-2cm of the tablet, as touchscreen gets automatically disabled. Since I make a lot of mistakes I basically want to have 1 hand on the undo button and the other hand using the pencil. This is the main reason why i switched to an ipad which supports touch+pencil at the same time. To undo on the galaxy id basically have to move the pencil a good distance from the screen, then press undo, and then go back to drawing. It felt very disruptive. As for the pencil precision, I think they were similar quality, maybe pressure and tilt are a bit better on the ipad in my opinion
Worth checking if this is the case for this samsung, and if there is a setting to disable it maybe, for my galaxy tab s6 there was no way to change it at the time.
Why would you want anything else when you get procreate on iPad??

such a concise & helpful review! thank you :]
Was waiting for your review since launch. And it is here today. Love your review and the tab also.
THanks man!
I’ve had my Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE for about a year and a half now, and it’s starting to show its age in general. Fortunately, Samsung is having an Early Black Friday deal, and I decided to take the plunge and trade in my current tablet for the base version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE. I can get a $300 USD discount for trading in my older tablet. And with an additional $50 USD discount, I bought the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE for only $100 USD plus tax. I’m a budget-conscious digital artist, and I don’t really need any fancy stuff like an OLED screen or even a fast processor to do my work.
ive had my tab s7+ for 2 years before upgrading to the s9+ and can say it had no slow downs
All I watch is your drawing ❤
I got a tab S8, a case, a 512gig SDXC uhs1 card, titanium metal nib replacements, and a paper like screen protector for less than 580usd
I very much love it
Where Amazon? I want to buy also and a package same like yours for only 500$ less
Hey I really love watching your reviews. May I ask if you encountered any lags, especially when you have too many layers in a drawing application? I also want to ask if maybe you tried animating in this tablet? Thank you
"There's a fingerprint sensor on the button instead of the screen" I honestly view that as a bonus. The placement seems better to me.
thanks so much for this! I have been debating for over a year and I guess now it's time! Hello Black Friday sales >D
thanks so much for the review!
i heard they also released S Pen Creator Edition as well
would love to see comparison video between that 3rd party apple pencil, spen and more!
What is the difference between the vanilla Spen and the Creator edition Spen?
@@elm4gician Creater Edition is bigger and and the tip is much larger
@@starblissgames ohhh seems like a very good pen. but i also saw that wacom sells a pen. The S9 FE can work with other pens?
@@elm4gician All Galaxy devices that support the S Pen use Wacom technology, so yes, a Wacom pen will work. Also, if you consider the Creator Edition Pen, be cautious as I hear the quality is kinda cheap and the tips are very fragile. There is also no replacement tips you can buy for it, at least not officially.
@@starblissgames so in that case would you recommend look for a wacom pen instead?
I had a Tab A6 10.1 with spen, azing tablet for 7 years, now i got the s9 fe 8/256gb version and it runs amazing to me
Great review! Thanks.
I ordered this device on Monday. Should get it end of the week. I currently have a s5fe . Just running out of room time to upgrade.
Will definitely consider the FE line.Thank you for a stellar review ✨️
Apologies for asking incase I missed it but what application are you using to draw?
i didn't even know there was a FE version until I stumbled across a listing online. I primarily use my tablet to read but I want to get into digital sketching on the side. If I had the money, I'd go all out with one of the S9 tabs but I'm on a tighter budget so this is a great alternative. I've been rocking a Tab E for almost 10 years and I want an upgrade that will last me just as long.
your the only one I trust with these things bro, Love your content!
would the s9 fe+ be a good option for drawing and animating on clip studio paint ex? knowing the process of animating does the exynos chip handle all the layers with no lag?
Absolutely agreed. Samsung is good at cutting features for the FE line up. I use the S20FE and it is the best value for money phone Samsung has ever made. I'm looking for a tablet and S9FE looks good. That LCD panel doesn't look bad at all.
The Microsoft Slim Pen 2 does indeed work with the Surface Pro 3. But...
(I'm posting this here, merely because it is your most recent video. But I thought you would like to know this because your first review was of the Surface Pro 3.)
It's not perfect, but it works much better than the older, round Surface Pens. (And I've tried two models of the older pens.) With the older pens, the diagonal line wobble is quite pronounced , and the "wavelength" of the wobbles is about 3/8 of an inch. With the Slim Pen 2, there is almost no wobble, but there is a bit of jitter that is about 15% of the amplitude of the wobble on the older pens. And the wavelength of said jitter is only a couple of pixels.
With the older pens, using stabilization was not as effective as one would like because the wavelength of the wobble was so long that you had to turn up the stabilization in your apps pretty high to get rid of the wobble. Some dynamic stabilization methods reduce the stabilization when you are drawing slowly, but this is exactly when the wobble on the older pens is the worst. Either way, this made it so that it was hard to draw details accurately.
But with the Slim Pen 2, the jitter is slight enough that you can have stabilization turned way down, and just use standard stabilization (instead of the aforementioned dynamic methods). That way you can almost eliminate the jitter while still being able to draw details.
And the pressure sensitivity is a little bit smoother with the Slim Pen 2.
However, even though the Slim Pen 2 does have tilt capabilities, the Surface Pro 3 does not detect that, as determined by patrickhlauke.github.io/touch/pen-tracker/ (this is a web page that reads and displays the data that your laptop is sensing about the stylus). However, it is still better than nothing.
Overall, I'm not quite sure if it was really worth the $178 (US) I just paid for both the Slim Pen 2 and the Charger. But, I guess I'm keeping it (rather than returning it) because it moves me just barely over that imaginary line from not really feeling like using my Surface Pro 3 for "real" drawing/sketching, to it being at least good enough for me to start practicing for the few years it will take for me to decide I need something much better.
I just bought mine with the 8gb +256gb version to replace my broken MobileStudio Pro, works really great with clip studio paint as a portable draw-in-the-cafe device, my only complaint was the nib which felt inconsistent with the plastic + gel tip, but after simply replacing it with plastic ones bought online it works amazingly. Super happy with my purchase, and much more affordable than any ipad air or pro once you factor in the apple pencil.
Hey there friend! I've been eyeing the same version you got, but the only thing getting in my way is wanting more information about how it runs with Clip Studio! Do you ever have any lag or chokes with the application? can it handle a lot of layers with a decent resolution, or does it struggle if you go past a few layers?
Hey there friend! I've been eyeing the same version you got, but the only thing getting in my way is wanting more information about how it runs with Clip Studio! Do you ever have any lag or chokes with the application? can it handle a lot of layers with a decent resolution, or does it struggle if you go past a few layers?
@@vsimp2956 I imported one of my commission files that is about 100mb in size, has 3300x2600 canvas size that contains about 200 layers, it does stutter a bit when dragging and pinching around, but to be fair my desktop isnt perfect either. Its perfectly responsive but instead or buttery 90hz smooth its more like 30, with some stutters when zooming in or out a lot.
The app does warm me about memory usage but no crashes have happened yet. For peace of mind i got the 8gb version of the tab rather than 6. 8gb was also what i had in my mobile studio pro, and both devices survived my decently large files which can be up to 200mb big.
For a torture test i tried mesh warping a big folder of about 70 layers which is about 2000pixels across, it chokes hard BUT after 20-30 seconds of waiting it does update, even when android says clip isnt responding, its actually still running. However i did find a bug where it kept saying its not responding even after its recovered, though an app restart fixed that.
For brushes i notice even 500px brushes still work smoothly for typical brushtrokes, but does start to lag if you scribble quickly. Of course if your brush is a more normal size like 100px or less then you can never make it lag. (yes, unlike the pinching and zooming, the brushtrokes are indeed buttery 90hz smooth)
Overall i do not notice any compromise between drawing clip on the tab and on my desktop, however the same cannot be said for my previous mobile studio pro, where it does lag a lot 😂😅 hope this helps!

How do you feel about this for note taking? Do you suggest any textured screen protector for note taking?
Which textured screen protector would you recommend please? Nice review.
I took the plunge and treated myself to this gem...it arrived yesterday. I ordered directly from Samsung in the UK and got a big discount. I also bought the keyboard case. I have a 2018 iPad and a 2022 iPad Pro. I bought this Samsung to replace my older iPad. I think it's a great tablet. The S pen and keyboard takes this one to another level. The S pen is far more intuitive than my expensive Apple Pencil. It actually feels like I'm writing on paper. 10/10!!!

I was on the fence between this and the tab 8+ for $550. I ended up going with the tab s8+ because of the specs + screen + network connectivity. I do think the tab s9 FE is an amazing option too. If I had the money, I would have gotten both and compared before making a final decision but money is tight so I could only get one.
Yeah that would make sense for someone tight on budget. Just get 2 of the things. Like say someone wants to get an iPhone 15, they are like, nah, I am tight on budget, let me get an iPhone 13 and a 14. It totally makes sense!

Excellent reviews🏅and fun to watch. I am looking for the right device for drawing in Live digital Caricature events. I would appreciate your recommendation: is it possible to settle for the Tab S9FE or better purchase with similar price a 22" or 24" Xp-Pen drawing tablet* (recommended model?), which allows more comfortable space for drawing and has a presence at the event, but requires moving around with a computer?
*Since this is portrait painting, the question of whether it is possible to draw vertically with the XP-Pen is important?
What drawing app are you drawing that pumpkin with? It looks awesome.
Hey Brad! I'm not sure if you've answered this question anywhere already but I'm in the market for this tablet so I thought I should ask here!
Some of Samsung's products have a "Second Screen" function in the menus that allows the rapid pairing of the tablet with Windows and several artists have been using this to use their Galaxy Tablets with desktop applications like Photoshop. I wanted to check if this was a thing on the Galaxy Tab S9FE and if so how well you think it works.

That's a good deal.. Samsung is offering $85 for my S7 FE trade-in, which is ridiculous. It doesn't have a dent on it and they sold me that tablet for $367 last year, and this year they're even selling it for $371 (we are in a kind of hyperinflation situation here in Turkey). Idk, they could at least offer a $150-200 trade-in value? Again, my tablet doesn't have a single dent on it. I'd love to upgrade to S9 FE+ because S7 FE is terrible with 4GBs of RAM and it didn't answer my productivity needs. I feel like I've been scammed by Samsung, honestly.
