    For anyone who wants a better pen for the Samsung tablet you can use the pen for the Wacom One tablet (the version with a screen). It works great (because its the same tech) and it is thicker and better weighted.

      Better still, if you can still find one - the HP zbook stylus (zbook g2 X3 to be precise) is better than the Wacom One pen and it also has felt nibs. Someone somewhere even said he managed to get Wacom felt nibs into his as HP stopped making this pen a few years ago when they dropped the Wacom EMR digitiser in their zbook lineup)

      @Hargure 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @MY29052 The only lagging problem was using the app Infinite Painter, and it was because the app is not well optimized. It lagged a little when using the lasso tool in a big canvas, I did the same thing with other drawings apps, and Infinite Painter was the only with that problem.
      I use the tablet for drawing, note taking, and a little media consumption. I bought it in May and I haven't had any problems.
      Also, consider the fact that this is my first tablet, I don't have other tablets to compare it, so maybe if you are used a very strong processor with other tablets your are going to note the difference.
      I got the tablet for the equivalent of 300 USD, and for me, it was totally worth it.

      @@Adervish The main difference between the FE and the FE+ is the screen size and the battery, but it can vary when it comes to RAM.
      In the case of my normal FE, there are two versions, one with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, and another version with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. I think the FE+ is the same, plus an extra version with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The S Pen that came with my FE doesn't have Bluetooth functionality, I don't know if the FE+ S Pen does.

    I switched from iPad to the Galaxy, believe it or not. The amount of 3rd party pen support on Samsung is great- you can get a $22 dropship pen on Amazon that comes with an eraser, a Wacom One that has the best shape for tilt, a Dr Grip EMR for a nice ergo hold, a Lamy EMR which looks fancy, has two nib types, and handles tilt like the Wacom, or the KingWrite MR03 which has both a side button AND an eraser. At all times, i keep the lamy for the rubber tip, the kingwrite for the soft tip and the wacom for the hard tip at any one time and swap between them between phases of making comics. Swapping the pen vs changing stabilization/line correction settings makes drawing so much easier.
    And it's much easier to get things transferred to and from my PC and Android, then it is to transfer with to and from my ipad. I have a Galaxy S6 lite and after 3 months, it started feeling like a hassle to use my ipad pro. Lastly, since I use Concepts a lot now, the files made on Windows and Android are cross compatible with each other while the iPad version saves in a different file format for some strange, crazy reason.
    yeah, i had to give up procreate and learn clip studio and concepts, but it was well worth it!

    • @oh-noe
      @oh-noe 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Don't know about concepts but clip files saved on ipados can be opened on windows and macos just fine.
      For file sharing, even if you don't use apple now you should consider sharing a folder or a disk over the local internet from your windows pc (or your mac if that's what you use). On android, ios, macos, linux, windows etc, you can connect to this shared space.
      Personally I mainly use an iPad with clip studio paint, and when I want to work on it further on my pc, I directly save from my ipad to my pc disk. No moving files or stuff like that, I just directly choose my shared disk in the save as menu and save it to my pc right from my ipad. If it's already a saved file and I want to copy it I just go into the file browser on my tablet and move the file from my tablet internal disk to the shared disk. The great part is that if you're in a separate room and want a file that is on your pc on your tablet, you can just go to your shared disk and open the file on your computer with your tablet, or move the file over to the tablet.
      It is very convenient to use whether you are on ios or android, works across all operating systems that support file sharing.

      So it doesn't consume too much memory, I've also allocated 70% of memory and reduced the undo history to 50, with no background apps running to be sure. With the right brushes, it's runs very well. The pen also works very smoothly.

    After trying the tab s9 and the s10, as well as the ipad in tech stores over the last few weeks, the s pen seems SIGNIFICANTLY worse than the apple pencil, even though I prefer the galaxy tab otherwise and really dislike i(Pad)OS even though I use macOS daily
    I don't know why my experience was so different from Brad's, but here's what I've noticed, if anyone is interested:
    The palm rejection works in a bit of an odd way on the Samsung devices - Whenever you move the pen close enough to the screen for it's position to be detected (when you can see that little circle), any and all touch input on the screen is disabled until you lift the pen again.
    This makes it effectively impossible to hold down the side shortcuts in clip studio to e.g. make a straight line or constrain the aspect ratio of a circle. Luckily you can set those shortcuts to toggle instead of holding them down or connect a bluetooth keyboard. But any action where you would use your finger and the pen at the same time, or even using a menu while you're still hovering over the screen, is impossible.
    This is _almost_ a disqualifying factor in my eyes, but depends on your usecase. The Apple Pencil does not have that issue, as well as being usable at shallower angles. Over all the Apple Pencil just felt better and more well-rounded when trying it out, epecially with it's weight and the haptic feedback. But it's also a 150€ addon to an already relatively expensive tablet.
    I tried it again after a while and the difference between the Samsung tablet and the ipad in terms of tilt is way more noticable to me now. The pen doesn't respond at all, if you use it at any angle past maybe 40 degrees off perpendicular, which makes it significantly more frustrating to use for both writing and drawing. The S10s the store had on display didn't have that issue. The store employee I asked said that that's the intended functionality for the S9 series - I'm not sure if I buy that though, because that seems like a significant enough issue that I can't imagine no reviewer mentioning it…
    One major benefit of any android tablet over an iPad in my eyes is having what I would consider a "real" filesystem where I can work with folders like on a dektop OS and granting Apps limited storage access where applicable instead of having apps siloed to the extent they are on Apple and giving each app it's own storage. As someone who would also read and annotate documents on a tablet, as well as moving around files quite a bit, this is very important to me. microSD is a huge bonus, too, of course.
    The iPad definitely seems like its ecosystem of apps is a lot more refined though. On the other hand I personally really like that Android feels so much closer to the level of control you have on a desktop OS, even after it became increasingly locked down in recent years.
    Idk, I just wanted to throw my thoughts out into the world, maybe they're useful to someone else.

  • @kickbeez642
    @kickbeez642 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

    Honestly the best recommendation would be to get the device that complements your ecosystem. I have a samsung phone laptop and tab s 8. It all works for me in that regard. If you have a iphone mac book, then an ipad Air would probably be best for you. If you dont care for the ecosystem, then i guess its best to review the apps that you would wish to use. Apple kinda has a better optimized set of apps for it. And more companies tend to push for apple devices first or just apple devices only. So that might sway you more.

  • @mathieudominique394
    @mathieudominique394 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +71

    I fully agree with you:
    If you have an iPhone... no discussion, get an iPad
    If you have an Android phone, I'd lean to a samsung tab but iPad could work too.
    One thing that reviews never mention though and that is a huge point for samsung IMO is that they use Wacom's EMR technology for their pen. A bunch of third party manufacturers make EMR pens which you can use on a Galaxy tab. I have an S8+ and use the Wacom one pen on it, huge improvement for drawing, compared to the Spen.

    I prefer the pointy tip of the S-pen to see details better, but oh man is it slim. There are ways around that, like sheaths/shrouds I could buy online to make it bigger, but the magnetic attachment is weaker.
    And, while I like Krita (it feels like a good CSP alternative), the UI on the Android version is full-fat desktop UI which takes away a lot of the screen, esp. on a smaller device like my S6 Lite 2022...

Nice review on both devices, i had an ipad until a few days ago when i decided to upgrade it to an android device which turned out to be the newest Huawei Matepad 11.5s which is a great tablet, but it has the google ban which is not as difficult to overcome nowadays. I was about to get the new Tab S9 fe as you have a lot of reviews about it, but they don't sell it in a bundle with the keyboard, only with the s pen, which i found very needed. Additionally, in my country, Samsung's post sale support is really bad and I had a couple of issues with them in the past, so I would say that it is important to also check that issue once you are committed to buy a new tablet. Are these things comparable in price? You can dismiss the M2 chip for most drawing tasks, but if the price is comparable that chip brings a lot to the table outside just drawing. The M2 chip which is essentially a laptop chip runs rings against any flagship phone chip, and you can complain all you want about the software, but it’s not true if you editing heavy video files with effects, sculpt with a lot of subdivisions or are making a comicbook with a ton of layers per page in one file. That doesn’t even include the games running better and longer OS updates.
    If it’s considerably cheaper, the 9FE is a good device, but here in Australia. A tab s9 fe is $750, and an iPad Air with Apple Pencil pro starts at $1200. So it’s not really in the same price category. At $750 I think you can kinda make a case for it, but that iPad will last you a lot longer, and if you want to edit film, animate, sculpt and use vector apps like Affinity designer… that iPad is a better argument even against the regular Tab S9.
    I’ve seen the tab s9 for $500 on discount. Definitely good value at that price.

      holy cow that's a huge difference in price. And I just googled where the price of the FE is coming in at here now and it's already down to $350 us which is a great deal.
      The reason I compared them is because this is what Apple considers mid tier vs what Samsung considers mid tier. I probably am undervaluing that M2.

    I love that they're doing what Samsung is doing... you mean Apple is copying Samsung once again... nothing new there 😄 I rather use the S-Pen, I like the lighter pen and the smaller nib, feels more accurate. The S-Pen also doesn't make noise when touches the screen, do some stippling and impressionism and the S-Pen is a joy to use, while the Apple Pencil get annoying after a while.
    I'm not missing Procreate at all after switching early this year. I'm happy to have a Samsung again, enjoying the Galaxy Tab S9 FE with Clip Studio Paint. Not being able to work on every device I have was the main reason I gave up on Procreate. It's a great app, but being able to work on all my devices is so much more convenient. I often start my concept on the S9 FE and then move to my studio where I have a 24" Pen Display and just swap to Clip Studio Paint for Windows. Another reason is ecosystem. Ipad's don't play well with Windows, Android does better and Samsung offer just the extras like Quick Share to make it even better.
    Got the model with 256Gb of storage since that has 8Gb. Yes, the M2 on the iPad is a lot more powefull, but neither of the devices ever use that if you only use them for art.

  • @pappi3
    @pappi3 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    The multi core score of 1380 processor is the single core score of M2 processor. Krita is brilliant but it works bad on FE due to bad processor under heavy load. There are noticeable stutters despite it having 90hz while ipad air despite 60hz it is smooth. It would be getting support for at least 7-8 years. IMO Galaxy Tab S9 FE is highly overpriced for what's in it. I would rather go for Tab S9 with OLED and Snapdragon Gen 2 than going for FE. If its absolutely between the FE and iPAD Air then latter one wins for me. I am invested in both ecosystem. I have an Android phone but iPAD just works better. Dex mode is just brilliant but you don't buy it for only that feature. Its the whole package. Ecosystem for tablet is currently in favor of Apple. I would much rather see more support for Android but Devs are heavily influenced by Apple with its user base. App support for ipad is just better. Android don't have something like Affinity or Davinci Resolve. Adobe apps works flawlessly in ipad. FE will get you up to occasional level of art but for serious thing where you are working with heavy files with tons of layers than you will need processing power but FE doesn't have it. The user experience is not up to the mark.

  • @swgman
    @swgman 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I got Galaxy Tab S9 FE and it's kind of underwhelming, stylus is tiny, precision is meh(especially near the edges, in some cases it even drifts away whole centimeter away), battery is ok, the android ui works kind of clunky with stylus if your hand shakes even a little, differently get a protective glass, because the screen is very fragile. Get an Ipad, csp is there and you have a procreate there too, as well as a lot of cool software (even 3d sculpting stuff)

    • @3polygons
      @3polygons 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have a S7 FE... I use a thicker LAMY AL-Star, which is also more sensitive. Samsung S screens are compatible with most Wacom EMR devices (you can get a fancy Staedtler...there's a lot of options), so it even works great with the Amazon Scribe's premium pen, which is the best of the 3 in sensitivity, and has a not "not so easy to miss" side pen button than the other two. As for apps, it depends on what you do. I have found that the free Krita is the most complete solution on Android, for painting. Infinite Painter is great, too, specially purchasing it full. I have no issues with this tablet at all. Also, the sound and battery are very good, as it is the wifi chip. I hadn't those issues maybe as I rarely paint close to the edges, but I had not noticed that in my S7. Art Rage Vitae is quite good for mimicking traditional painting, I have quite some fun with it, as oils work quite nicely.
      But in terms of other apps... Procreate alone (for how good is the app, and how amazing are their devs and their position against AI) IMO justifies going the iPad route. I just don't see a need to go for the Pro, AIR 13" is good enough. But very crucial if one needs vector apps and serious photo editing: The Affinity apps. Designer, and Photo, mostly (I believe Publisher is also for the iPad, I have them all on desktop). IMO, at the end of the day, both tablets are good purchases. But I would definitely go for the iPad AIR 13 inches, not the 11 one. You get more canvas size than with the S9 FE. And due to screen ratio, probably even better than the S9 Ultra and its 14 inches.

      @mortezachaichian2176 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Having a discrepancy of one centimeter in pen accuracy is certainly not normal. It's possible that your device is malfunctioning. Additionally, a lack of pen precision can sometimes be attributed to the interference of magnets with Wacom EMR Technology. This may occur if you're using a case cover with strong magnets. Therefore, ensure that this isn't causing the problem.

    If you want a better Pen then go for the Samsung if you want more softwares then go for the iPad it's that simple.
    I have both so I can confirm this, I don't like Procreate cuz of how their brushes feel so I use Fresco most of the time on the iPad and when I am doing work on both I use Clip Studio Paint since it would be the best and most consistent also cuz I do manga stuff.
    Also if you like a pointy tip Definitely Go for the Samsung since Apple Pencil feels more like a Crayon rather than an actual pen or pencil.

      I would have said the exact opposite! You can use your android tablet as a full fledged Wacom/Cintiq replacement and work on full Photoshop (BC of hovering and compatibility) while the pen and scribbles are just better on procreate and fresco for FreeTime use. I hate Samsung's pens :((((

      @@icephoenix5466i also hate the pseudo rubbery tip of spen . It has artificial friction while painting

      Ngl this is me with spen. I like it so much more due to it being lighter and smaller. I have the 1st gen Apple pen so it maybe heavier than gen 2 (is it? Idk) but spen really is my favorite between the two brands. Software wise I'm more used to Android apps so I feel like I'm not losing much from not buying iPad. 😅😅😅

      @@Na4z that pseudo friction is so that you dont have to buy matte screen protectors (which blurs the screen) for writing/drawing.
