2019 Lexus RC F - The Japanese muscle car

  • The 2019 Lexus RC F is powerful, striking, and well-priced. Should you buy one instead of a used LC 500?
Shop for the 2019 Lexus RC F on CarGurus: cargur.us/wj0HR
467 horsepower and 389 pound-feet of torque should be enough to put the RC F among elite competition. But what truly separates this Japanese muscle car is the nature of its 5.0-liter V8. Naturally aspirated, with a 7,300-rpm redline, the RC F feels lazy and comfortable at low revs. Push the throttle enough to raise the engine’s speed, however, and the RC F will come alive with sound and thrust.
As a 2-door coupe, the RC F’s backseat isn’t a place you’ll want to call home. The front seats power forward to allow for entry and exit, but this is a space best left for short journeys. That said, the 10-cubic-foot trunk is surprisingly spacious-much more so than the 5.4 cubic feet available in the LC 500.
But the LC 500 bests the RC F in handling, precision steering, and (most of all) design. With prices on used LCs dropping south of $80,000, it’s worth wondering if buying a new RC F-particularly one optioned up to our test car’s $82,463 price-is a wise choice.
Apple CarPlay is standard but frustrating to use with the RC F’s non-touchscreen. Safety tech includes blind-spot warning, pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and two knee airbags. Prices start at $64,750, plus a $1,025 destination fee.

I have an RCF with carbon/TVD. TVD in slalom mode makes the car's steering super sharp. The variable gear ratio steering needs to be in sport+ (TVD in slalom) and over 5000 rpm in turns for the fastest turn-in. Much sharper than the bigger and 350 lbs heavier LC500. It is the smallest out of the three and the lightest (100 lbs less than the GSF and 350 lbs less than LC500). GSF is almost 10 inches longer than the RCF. Has the quickest acceleration and the most fun/neutral to toss in turns especially with the TVD. That is why I got the RCF. I had driven the LC500 before I purchased the RCF and it is far more grand touring than the RCF.

Also, correction. The 2020 RCF does not have RWS. The TVD is more dynamic for turning abiity. LC500 needs it because it does not get TVD and is much larger than the RCF. TVD makes the RCF steering already sharp with TVD. Here is a list of updates on the '20 RCF:
    - 472 HP and 395 ft-lbs of torque
    - Stiffer and stickier Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires that eliminate understeer
    - Shorter gearing with a 3.13:1 overall final driver
    - Standard RCF is 50 lbs lighter at 3900 lbs (177 lbs for the RCF track edition at 3770 lbs). The carbon fiber package with LSD is 3850 lbs.
    - TVD is a stand-alone option and carbon fiber performance package is available both with LSD and TVD
    - Suspension is unchanged except revised/stiffer bushings
    - Hollow rear half shafts and smaller A/C compressor for weight reduction.
    - Track edition gets a lot more carbon fiber, carbon ceramic brakes, lighter wheels etc.

Not bad. 5.0 v8. Yeah I say it's a muscle car. More like a luxury muscle car. I wonder if it's more reliable than a Mustang. I'm probably sure it's more reliable than a camaro or challenger.

So it has less power than a Mustang GT and weighs more than a Mustang GT. He'll the RC weighs as much as the four door GS F. The RC F. I want to love for its engine but everything else is such a let down. Shame. The LC500 is bliss and would be my choice

    • @2ZZGE100
      @2ZZGE100 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Absolutely incorrect. RCF does not have less power than Mustang GT. RCF has 472 HP compared to 460 HP. Also, Mustang weighs close to 3900 lbs. GSF weighs 100 lbs more than the RCF. 100 lbs is not "almost". You are talking LC500, which is a lot less performance oriented than the RCF since it has the same power, but weighs 350 lbs more than the RCF. While RCF successfully did 12.5 seconds in tests, the LC500 cannot even crack the 13.0 seconds since it is mostly at 13.1 - 13.3 seconds. On the race track, out of LC500, RCF and GSF, RCF is the most track oriented out of the three. RCF did a 1/4 mile in MotorTrend test at 12.5@114.3 seconds compared to best of 12.9 seconds for GSF and 13.2 seconds for the LC500. A recent comparison in a German magazine determined RCF is the most performance oriented while LC500 is the most luxurious. GSF was in the middle of the three where it was slower than the RCF, but quicker than the LC500.

A Mustang GT can be had for half this price and sounds better, can have manual or automatic 10 speed, and looks worlds better. No wonder, Mustang is the best selling sporty two door car in world. Sure Lexus is more reliable, but in this segment performance, noise, and looks are what matter. Just say pass.

You can get a used on cheap 40 k and last you 300k . Lexus is the best car made. They feel new at 100k not like fords

@@Ls-pr9gf Dude no one buys a car in this class for durability. They buy for noise, for speed, for passion, for sex appeal, for street cred. Now if you are over 50 and part of boomer crowd who seen their best days, sure go for it

That thing needs to lose at least 300 pounds and be redesigned. The M4 is better in everything, and the Shelby smokes it in everything too. I'd even take a Mustang GT with PP2 over this.

True to all the above, but as a previous owner of three BMW's (still have my E39) and a current owner of the RC, I am appreciating the reliability of my Lexus.
